Kelly giggled to herself as she watched Carrie button her shirt wrong twice before getting it right. "Care..."
"What is wrong with these damn shoes?" Carrie cursed as she struggled with her shoe strings.
"Care..." Kelly smiled, reaching out and pulling her onto the bed beside her. She climbed off, sitting on the floor in front of her and tied her shoes for her. "Shouldn't I be the one that's nervous? I mean your dad is coming to my home, after all. What if he realizes what a mistake it is to let you live here when he sees how crappy this place is? Your family is used to more than this, remember?"
Carrie reached down, taking the Texan's chin in her hand, "This is your home, and therefore, it isn't crappy. I love it here."
She smiled, "So why are you nervous?"
"I don't know...it's our parents. I just want them to get along and like each other, you know? Not to mention the fact that your mom and my dad knows, but your dad doesn't. I mean, I warned my dad about that, but still...it could get awkward."
"Don't worry about it," Kelly squeezed her knee gently as she stood.
Carrie pulled her onto her lap, "Remind me why I thought this was a good idea?"
"Because it is a good idea," Kelly assured, wrapping her arms around her neck. "You get to spend time with your dad, and he gets to see that we're taking good care of you."
"Very good care of me," Carrie smiled, kissing her.
Kelly giggled, pulling back, "I love when you get all cute and sexy."
"Sexy?" her eyebrow raised. "You think I'm sexy?"
Kelly bit her lip as she nodded.
"You're so adorable," Carrie laughed softly.
"Don't tease," Kelly pouted.
"I'm not," Carrie replied, rubbing her back. "You know I love how adorable you are. It's one of your best qualities."
"Oh yea? And what's one of my worst?"
"Haha, I'm not dumb enough to fall for that," Carrie shook her head.
"No, I wanna know. I won't get mad."
Carrie eyed her skeptically.
"I promise," Kelly held her pinky up.
"Alright," Carrie linked their pinkies together before thinking for a moment. "I don't know...that's actually hard because your faults aren't always bad things."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, for instance the way you give yourself to people. Like, you completely give yourself to them as in doing anything they need. You're always there for them no matter what. It can be someone you just met, but that doesn't matter because if they ask for help you'll give it. You'll completely give yourself to them, but you don't actually give your self to them. It's all about them, never about you. You have this wall. Most people don't see it because they're too absorbed in themselves, and you just add fuel to the fire."
Kelly nodded, knowing herself well enough to know that Carrie was spot on.
"But that wall is there for a reason, you know? You're just protecting yourself, and the fact that it's there and the fact that you're so guarded makes it so much more incredible when you finally bring the wall down."
"Or when you bust right through it?" Kelly gave a slight grin.
Carrie giggled, "Somebody had to."
Kelly kissed her cheek before resting her head on her shoulder, "What else?"
"What else what?"
"What's another fault?"
"Kell..."
"What? The only way you can really love someone is to really know them and in order to really know, them you have to know their faults too."
"And when did you become so knowledgeable in the art of love?"
"I'm a complete romantic at heart," Kelly shrugged.
Carrie kissed her forehead, "Alright...hm...well, you have a bit of a temper. It's not like a normal temper where you just fly off the handle anytime anything upsets you. You keep things in until you're about ready to burst and then something so trivial, whether it's related to what is upsetting you or not, can set you off.
And when you go off...damn...it's definitely something to see."
Kelly couldn't help but chuckle, "I can be a bit hot headed at times."
"But at the same time, it shows just how passionate of a person you are...not to mention it can be pretty hot."
"Yea?"
"When you get that fire in your eyes..." Carrie nodded as she trailed off.
Kelly nuzzled her neck, closing her eyes at the knock on the door, pretending they were still the only two in the room.
Carrie looked up, unable to hide the nerves in her smile, "Hey..."
"Hey," Jeanne offered a smile in return. "Just wanted to let y'all know that Kelly's dad will be back from work in a few minutes..."
Carrie's smile grew at Kelly's disappointed sigh, "Thank you."
"And also, it's nearly six so your dad should be here soon, Carrie, and I could use you girls' help in the kitchen."
"Yes ma'am," Carrie nodded. "We'll be right there."
Jeanne gave a nod before walking out of the room.
"Play time's over," Carrie patted the shorter girl's hips.
"No..." Kelly groaned into her neck.
"Hey," Carrie took her chin in her hand, lifting it so that they were eye level. She leaned in, kissing her fully, feeling Kelly's hand tighten around her shirt, pulling her closer. She giggled, pulling back, "We'll continue this later."
Kelly nodded, her stomach tightening excitedly at the fact that there wasn't a hint of question in the other girl's voice, "Definitely."

Kelly shifted nervously in her chair. She was seated across from Carrie and Stephen, with her parents at either end of the table.
“So Carrie,” Jeanne smiled. "Have you decided on what you plan on doing now that school’s out?”
“Um, yes ma’am,” Carrie nodded. “I’m going to L.A. with Kelly.”
Kelly bit the corner of her lip to keep from grinning too broadly as she caught Carrie’s eye.
“Well, I can’t lie and say the thought of you two skipping college and going over there excites me,” Jeanne noted. “But I am glad that the two of you are going together. Maybe I’ll be able to sleep better at night knowing that you’ll be keeping Kelly out of trouble, Carrie.”
“Hey…” Kelly protested with a laugh, taking the bowl of salad Jimmy passed to her. “I love how you think I can’t take care of myself.”
“Well, I was always one to believe that parents should be honest with themselves when it comes to their children’s abilities,” Jeanne teased.
“Not cool,” Kelly shook her head as everyone else at the table laughed heartily.
Carrie winked at her, her foot sliding next to the Texan’s under the table.
“So,” Stephen smiled, his gaze moving from Carrie to Kelly. “Have you girls booked your flight and everything for your trip to Alaska?”
“Yes sir,” Kelly nodded. “We leave Sunday afternoon. It’s gonna put us there kind of late, but we need to be there before Monday, and with graduation on the Saturday, we’re not sure how late we’re going to be up, so we didn’t want to book an early flight either.”
“So graduation is this coming Saturday?”
“Oh yea, I almost forgot,” Carrie stood up quickly. She sat back down, blushing. “May I be excused real quick?”
The three adults chuckled, nodding their consent.
Carrie stood back up, with a little more grace than before, and hurried to Kelly’s bedroom. She returned a short minute later, holding a blue ticket in her hand. “This is for you,” she announced, giving the blue ticket to her dad.
“What’s this?” Stephen asked.
“It’s a ticket to our graduation this Saturday,” Carrie explained, retaking her spot at the table. “Y-you’re gonna come…right?”
“Of course I’m gonna come, Care Bear,” he replied, wrapping a warm arm around her shoulders. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
“Carrie was chosen by our class to give the welcoming address,” Kelly smiled.
“Really?” Stephen turned to his daughter. “That’s great sweetie.”
Carrie blushed, “Yea, well, Kelly was chosen to sing the National Anthem.”
“Aw, congratulations,” Jeanne smiled.
“It was no big deal,” Kelly shrugged, taking a bite of lasagna.
“Nonsense,” Jimmy reached over and squeezed her hand. “It’s a very big deal, and you’re going to do great.
We’re proud of you Kellbell…we’re proud of both of you,” he smiled at Carrie as well.
Carrie’s blush deepened, and Kelly giggled at her plan having backfired.

“No more food,” Kelly shook her head, pushing her plate away from her. She rested her chin in her hand as she looked at Carrie. The Oklahoma native was caught up in a conversation with their dads, and was currently ignoring her except for the fact that her foot that was running up and down the inside of Kelly’s leg. Kelly watched as Carrie shook her head softly, causing her blonde hair to fall back off her shoulders.
She swallowed hard as her eyes moved up the other girl’s neck, across her jawline to her lips, watching her intently as she spoke. Carrie’s foot moved passed her knee.
The rest of the table stood up, heading towards the living room. Kelly stood up as well, quickly making her way around the table to Carrie’s side, “Is he leaving?”
“No,” Carrie giggled. “We’re going watch tv.”
“Oh,” Kelly frowned slightly. “I mean…not oh, like it’s a bad thing that you’re dad’s not leaving, I want you to spend time with him, I just—“
Carrie brought a finger to her lips, silencing her, “I know. I wasn’t really playing fair just now, and I’m sorry for teasing you, but…it’s my dad.”
“I know,” Kelly nodded, offering a smile. “Let’s go watch some tv.”
“Yea?”
“Yea,” Kelly linked their arms together, guiding her into the living room.

Kelly groaned as she felt the weight of her bed sinking.
“Sorry,” Carrie whispered, kissing her softly.
“It’s ok,” Kelly replied, kissing her back.
Carrie wrapped an arm around her bare back, pulling her closer, a grin forming on her face at the feeling of the shorter girl’s skin beneath her fingers.
“Don’t get any funny ideas,” Kelly laughed softly. “I was tired.”
“I know,” Carrie brushed her hair behind her ear. “I didn’t think I’d be outside for that long, talking to my dad.”
“It’s ok,” Kelly assured, scooting closer, making it easier for Carrie to hold her. “I’m glad that you got to spend some time with him.”
“Me too.”
“I think it meant a lot to him that you invited him to graduation.”
“Why wouldn’t I have?”
“I don’t know; he just seemed to really enjoy that you did.”
“Well, I’m glad he’s able to be happy somehow, even if it’s only temporarily.”
“What do you mean?”
“He needs to move out of my mom’s—he’s miserable there.”
“Is that what y’all were talking about?” Kelly asked, her finger tips stroking along Carrie’s jaw.
“Yea, but no matter what I say, he won’t change his mind about staying with her.”
“Well, his mind’s been set in this for a long time now so it may take a while for him to get used to the thought that he can move out and be happy. He’s just beaten himself up so much, that it may take a lot to pick him back up again, you know?”
“Yea,” Carrie nodded with a sigh. She smiled as Kelly kissed her softly, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Kelly kissed her again. “And I love the fact that tonight went smoothly.”
“Even with our little game of footsies,” Carrie wiggled her eyebrows.
Kelly giggled, reaching up and kissing her forehead before pulling back.
“Where are you going?” Carrie asked, wrapping her arms around her tighter.
“To the living room so I can get some sleep.”
“You’re not staying in here?”
“Care, if my mom finds us like this she’s gonna flip. She told me I could wait for you in here so I could tell you goodnight, but there’s no way I can stay. I just got tired, and instinct kinda took over.”
“You sure you can’t stay?” Carrie drew a finger up the Texan’s spine.
Kelly took a deep breath, “Care…”
“How about a goodnight kiss?”
“Now that I can do,” Kelly nodded, leaning back into her.
Carrie kissed her warmly, her arms wrapping firmly around her. She felt Kelly sigh into the kiss, and she tilted her head, brushing her tongue along her bottom lip. Kelly opened her mouth a little wider, allowing their tongues to barely touch. Carrie deepened the kiss as she drew one of her arms back, her hand sliding down Kelly’s side, and over her hip, down her thigh.
Kelly shook her head, pushing back with a laugh, “You’re evil.”
“I was just kissing you goodnight,” Carrie smiled innocently. She turned over, to grab Kelly’s shirt off the floor, and handed it to her.
“So, so evil,” Kelly shook her head again as she tugged the shirt back on.
Carrie giggled, pulling Kelly back to her, and burying her face in her neck as she hugged her tightly.
Kelly smiled, wrapping her arms around her as well, resting her chin on her shoulder. “I would do just about anything right now to be able to spend the night like this.”
“Mmm…” Carrie moaned in agreement as Kelly scratched her back through her shirt.
Kelly laughed lightly, kissing her shoulder before pulling back, “I’ve got to go.”
“Ok…night baby.”
“Night,” she happily accepted a kiss. “Love you.”
“Love you too,” Carrie kissed her nose playfully, earning a giggle from the Texan before she climbed over her and walked out the room, turning back to wave before she closed the door.
