Rob went into the bathroom in Gemma’s apartment. He looked himself in the mirror and sighed. He looked just as tired as he felt. He slowly got out of his boxers and stepped into the shower stall. He turned on the knobs and felt the hot water run down his body. The nerves in his shoulders loosened up as he shot his head back and closed his eyes. He had needed this so bad. The night with Gemma had been mind-blowing, but she had seemed distant. He started wondering what had been going through her mind. Why had she acted the way she did? He slowly shook the concerns off and decided to simply enjoy the feeling that the hot water was bringing his body. He brought a hand up to his face and further over his hair. He grabbed the shampoo bottle from the sink and opened it with a quick movement. He brought it up to his nose and took in the scent. Apple fresh. It reminded him so much of Gemma. The scent made him dizzy and he closed his eyes again. His body was filled with the warmth from the running water and the remembrance of her curious fingertips on his chest.

Gemma heard the water start running and sighed. She got up from bed and started looking through the drawers in her bedroom. She was frantically moving around with the socks in the second drawer and noticed the big red diary, picked it up and sat down on the bed with it. She slowly opened it and searched through it. She found what she was looking for and started to read. Her index finger was slowly tracing the lines. The sentences. The words. Her facial expression refused to move a muscle, as she was taking in every little thing that was said about Mike. About their night. What she was looking at had been written down about 7 months. Th. The morning after. The words both terrified and soothed her. She hadn’t forgotten about what it said, but she knew that the words would be able to hurt Rob in ways she didn’t even want to think about.
The phone started ringing and she turned to the nightstand where it usually was lying. She cursed when seeing that it wasn’t there. She safely pulled the cover up over the diary and went out to look for the phone. She discovered it in the kitchen and picked it up to receive the call.
“Gemma here.” Her face went into shock as she heard the voice on the other end.
“Hey girl. It’s Mike.” He chuckled lightly and went back to his serious tone of voice. “I know I’m about 7 months late, but I thought that I needed to check if everything’s cool.”
“I guess….” Gemma had to clear her throat; she could hardly hear herself speak because of the loud thumbing in her chest. “… Everything’s just fine.”
“Good.” A pause settled between them. “Good.” Mike didn’t know what to tell her, but he felt like he had to say something. Something. About the night. About last night. About Rob. Anything. But instead of saying anything he was letting the silence grow.
---
Rob came back into the bedroom and gathered some of his clothes from the floor. He looked around the room trying to locate his t-shirt and sighed as it seemed to be nowhere in sight. He moved the covers trying to see if it was there. He stumbled across something hard and lifted the covers to see what it was. He saw the diary lying in front of him. It was open. He knew that he shouldn’t even look twice, but a word caught his eyes. ‘Mike’. It said his friend’s name with thick black letters, and he couldn’t resist. He had to know. He slowly picked it up and his eyes discovered the date. He nodded knowing what this section was about. A part of him feared what he was about to read, but if he didn’t, he would always walk around thinking about it. He threw the diary back down on the bed. He couldn’t read this. He had to trust her. He had to believe that she had told him the truth. That the night never meant anything to either Mike or her. He sat down and found the t-shirt lying by his feet. He picked it up and sat with it in his hands for a while. He looked at the red diary again and tried to resist the urge. He got up and walked around the room for a couple of minutes, keeping his eyes on the diary. He put on the t-shirt and was about to leave the room, as he turned around, sat on the bed and took the diary back up in his hands. His eyes reached the date again and he started reading, letting his eyes move over the words, as tears formed in the corners of his eyes.
*Dear Diary,
I met this guy last night at the bar. I met up with Sheena and the other girls at around 7pm, and we went to the concert with all the small bands – like we do almost every weekend. Well, we went drinking at “Crane’s”. I got pretty tipsy – and noticed him. I’ve never ever made so strong moves on a guy before. But damn, I wanted his ass in my bed. And I got it. As far as I know, he is in one of the bands that we saw. I don’t know which one, and I don’t care. All I cared about was him. And the way he touched me – without even placing his hands on my heated body. Maybe I shouldn’t have given him my number, but…! I wonder will I ever see him again? Will he call me like he said he would? I ld sld stop fooling myself by saying that this is just a one-night-stand, cause if it really wasn’t more than that… I wouldn’t sit here with a deep wish to hear the phone ring and his voice in the other end. I have never been touched like that before, nor will I ever feel that way again with a man. He touched me in all the right places – created a million butterflies in the pit of my stomach. He knew what I wanted without even having to ask first. The passion. The thrills. I will have to go now, I promised to call Sheena with all the details.

Rob threw the diary back on the bed with great disgust. Why had she been telling him that it never meant anything – when in fact it did? Once it did. He looked back at the bedroom door and thought abouat tat to do with his knowledge. He had to talk to her about it. But where would he ever start a conversation like that? He shook his head and returned his gaze back on the diary. He grabbed his jacket that was lying on the bed and walked towards the kitchen. He had to talk to her about it – and he had to do it now. Otherwise he would lose his nerve completely.
On his way to the kitchen he heard Gemma’s voice. Who was she talking to? He made his way to the door and saw her with backback against him. She was on the phone, and her voice gave her away. She was beyond nervous. Herr war was loosely tied up in a knot and she was nervously pulling on the few strings of hair that was hanging down. Rob shook is head and tried to think of whom she could be talking to.
“Mike…” The word seemed to sting through the very gut of Rob as he heard it come out of her mouth. Mike? She was talking to Mike? His head suddenly felt heavy from the spinning and he stormed out of the apartment slamming the door behind him.
Gemma heard the door slam and the first thought that ran through her mind was: ROB. She hung up the phone without saying a word to Mike and ran to the window in the kitchen, seeing Rob already getting into his car. What was happening? He couldn’t have heard her on the phone… he was in the er, er, right? She sighed and felt her eyes get misty. She didn’t know how she got into this mess, and why would Rob get that angry just because Mike was on the phone. He could have been calling to ask about Rob. He could have. But he dt. t.
Reaching his car, Rob stopped for a second to think. What if he had misunderstood the whole situation? He couldn’t just leave her like that. She wouldn’t be able to understand. He felt another rush of anger shooting through him and he got into his car. She wasn’t going to play him like that. And he knew that his love for her would make that possible. He always got way too sentimental around her, and he often felt like an open book. He started the engine and started thinking about her face. Her hair. Her eyes. He looked up at the kitchen window and saw her looking down on him. He quickly looked away and sighed, banging lightly on the steering wheel. Who was he kidding here? He turned the engine off and got out of the car. He looked back up at her, and saw a tear roll down her face. He loved her too much. He slowly made his way back up the stairs and was greeted by a sobbing Gemma in the doorway. He embraced her in a warm hug and kissed her on the tip of her nose.
“Can we really work this out?” She asked and looked him straight into his eyes.
