LAST TIME:
Tai laughed again. “This is wonderful!” She hugged her friend again. “I can’t wait to catch you up on everything.”
Arerell glance over at Marshall—who was talking to Dre, but looking in their direction, “Oh, yes, and I want to hear all about it.”
CHAPTER SEVEN
After about five hours of talking and eating, Tai, Arerell, Curtis and Proof were the only ones who were still there. They all had too much to drink and Marshall insisted that they stay.
Tai had hardly left Arerell’s side at the BBQ; they had talked about Arerell’s stay over in England, about how Tai met Marshall, all the softball games that Arerell missed, and anything else that came to mind.
At the moment, Marshall and Tai were outside on the deck looking at the stars. They were standing so close to each other that their shoulders were touching.
Marshall turned to look at Tai when she sighed for the third time.
“Are you doing that because you want me to ask you what’s wrong?” He asked her with a raised brow.
She laughed and turned her head to the left to look at him. “No. I don’t know what’s wrong really. This is one of the happiest days of my life…we beat our rivals, I got my car back, my best friend of fifteen years is finally home,” she paused and smiled, “and I met you.”
He smilack.ack.
They were silent as they gazed at each other. Marshall lifted his right hand and hesitantly put it behind her head. When she didn’t protest he leaned down for a kiss.
It was soft and slow. It was a real kiss. Much different from the one that she had used to distract Marlee at the studio.
They broke apart a moment later for.
“Wow.” Tai breathed.
Marshall laughed and pulled her in for a hug. She leaned her head on his left shoulder and sighed again.
“Do you want me to ask now?”
Tai rolled her eyes and giggled.yes"> They were at the table, chairs as close together as they could get, and they were holding hands.
“You said you would sing for me.” He said quietly.
Her brow wrinkled as she thought about the day. “No I didn’t.”
He shrugged. “So do it anyway.”
She thought for a minute and then came to a decision. “You like movies?”
“Yeah.”
“Then tell me what this is from. It’s recent, so if you’ve seen it then you might be able to place it.”
She got up from her chair and went to stand at the rail, he followed and stood directly behind her and placed each hand on the rail so she was trapped in between.
Tai smiled slightly as she looked up toward the sky.
“What are you waiting for?” He whispered.
“I’m picking out a star to sing to.” She answered.
“I thought you sang to them all.”
“Only when I’m alone. If I’m with someone…then I pick one out for them.” She paused. “Their star.” She finished softly.
Tai continued looking until she found the brightest one and pointed it out to Marshall. “That one.”
He nodded.
She cleared her throat and leaned back in to Marshall’s chest.
Where once was light Now darkness falls Where once was love Love is no more Don't say goodbye Don't say I didn't try These tears we cry Are falling rain For all the lies you told us The hurt, the blame And we will weep to be so alone We are lost We can never go home
~~&~~
Curtis, Proof and Arerell were in the kitchen talking when Haile came in with her nanny.
Curtis and Proof smiled and introduced her to Arerell. Haile didn’t seem to be listening to them. Haile looked up at Curtis and asked, “Who’s singing? It’s pretty.”
Arerell’s head snapped around to the back window and looked outside. Sure enough Tai was out there singing. “God I’ve missed that.” She whispered. She walked over and opened the window and Tai’s smooth silky singing voice drifted in though the window.
~~&~~
So in the end I'll be what I will be No loyal friend Was ever there for me Now we say goodbye We say you didn't try These tears you cry Have come too late Take back the lies The hurt, the blame And you will weep When you face the end alone You are lost You can never go home You are lost You can never go home
Tai finished off the song and waited nervously…she bit her lip when Marshall didn’t say anything for a minute. “Well?” Tai asked softly.
“That-it was beautiful.” He paused. “When I heard that song in the movie…I didn’t like it because I thought the singer’s voice was a little harsh, but…the way you sang it…” Marshall trailed off ahen hen after a moment he whispered, “there are really no words.”
~~&~~
They went inside after five minutes and when they entered the kitchen they saw that Marshall’s nine-year-old daughter was home.
&;
Marshall smiled and picked her up. “You’re home. And it’s only 10:00. Past your bedtime.” He looked over at Haile’s nanny for answers. Haile’s nanny—Carol—had been bringing Haile home late every night this week and he was getting suspicious. Carol always had an excuse though. He would ask Haile about it when he tucked her in for bed tonight.
“We were at the movies.” Carol explained.
“Oh?” He asked, “And what did you see?”
“Shrek 2!” Haile squealed. “It was so funny!” Haile giggled.
“Did you now?” He asked with a smile. She nodded excitedly.
“Well, how a you you tell me all about it while I put you to bed?” He asked.
“Ok daddy.”
He looked over at Tai and raised his eyebrow silently asking her to join him.
She nodded with a smile and followed them up the stairs.
“Who was that?” Carol asked.
Curtis grinned at Proof. He was definitely ready to bust this chick’s bubble. “Marshall’s new girl.”
Carol’s eyes moved quickly back to the stairs and she sneered slightly. “Really.” She stated. “Kinda looks like a slut to me.”
Arerell moved quicker than lighting with a punch to Carol’s eye. “Why don’t you say something like that to her face instead of when she’s gone you fuckin pro?!” She yelled as she struggled to get away from Curtis’s restraining arms.
Proof was off to the side ready to grab Carol if she made any moves.

Carol was on the floor at Arerell’s feet. She got back up slowly. “What did you just call me? I have a feeling it was an insult.” She stated rubbing her eye.
“Fuckin right it was an insult.” She looked Carol up and down before she explained. Carol was wearing short booty shorts, a colorful bra and see through top. She must have taken her shoes off at the door. “It’s a pretty word for ‘prostitute’.”
Carol’s eyes widened a bit before she lunged at Arerell.
Arerell twisted out of Curtis’s arms and ducked before Carol could land anything. She got another punch in and this time it was Carol’s lip.
Curtis grabbed her again and sat down in a chair at the kitchen table pulling her down to sit in his lap. He held her tightly around the waist so she couldn’t get away again. Proof had pushed Carol down in a chair at the opposite end.
Proof looked down the table at Arerell’s flushed angry face and grinned. “Remind me not to get you pissed of at me ok?”
Arerell glanced up at him and cracked a smile before deciding to make the most of the moment and leaned back in Curtis’s embrace.
~~&~~
Marshall, Tai and Haile entered through the door that had a bright yellow nameplate with Haile’s name on it. The room was clean for a kid her age, but that was probably the maid’s doing.
He sat her down on the bed and then pulled off her shoes. "> “Ok. Go and pick out some clothes and then go change and brush your teeth.”
She nodded and ran off through the door after she picked something out from her dresser.
He sat down and ed Ted Tai to sit next to him.
“Marshall…I know it’s not really my place…but that woman down there I don’t think she was telling you the truth about where she took Haile.”
“You noticed it too huh?” He sighed, “Yeah, I’m gonna ask Haile where they really went today. Carol’s her new nanny. She’s brought Haile home late everyday this week and she always has an excuse ready.” He was going to say more but Haile came rushing back in.
She stopped right in front of Tai and grinned. “You have a pretty voice.”
Tai laughed and picked Haile up and put her in her lap. “You heard me?”
Haile nodded.
>
“Well thank you.”
“This is Tai Haile.” Marshall said.
“Are you daddy’s new girlfriend?” Haile asked seriously.
Tai looked up at Marshall. She didn’t quite know what they were.
He shrugged with a smile.
“We’re working something out.” Tai answered. “In>“I only just met him today.”
Haile nodded.
“Alright you. Come here.”
Haile climbed over to Marshall and he tucked her in bed.
“Haile…did you go to the movies today?” He asked her.
“Yes daddy. I told you we saw Shrek.” She rolled her eyes.
He laughed. “Yes, I know…but…well, when?” He asked.
“After lunch.”
Marshall paused. “Why were you late? Where were you at tonight if it wasn’t the movies?”
Haile bit her lip, “I’m not spose to tell.” She said softly. “Carol said that if I did then I would be in trouble.” Haile rubbed her left upper arm.
Tai narrowed her eyes and reached out slowly to lift up Haile’s sleeve. There was a large bruise. She dropped the sleeve with a gasp.
“Where did you get that?”spanspan>Marshall asked quickly.
Haile looked away. “I was being a pain.”
“Haile…where you tonight? I promise you won’t be in any trouble.”
Haile sighed, “I didn’t like it there daddy.”
“Where’s that baby?” He pushed back some of her hair.
“I don’t know what kind of place it was but the ladies there were dancing with no clothes. Carol too…I think it was called ‘La Moon’.” She looked up at her daddy and saw that his face was read with anger. “I thought you weren’t going to be mad at me?” Her eye welled with tears.
Marshall gathered his little girl in his arms. “I’m not mad at you baby. Shh. It’s ok.” He let go and kissed her forehead. “I’ve got something to take care of. Why don’t you go to sleep now and tomorrow I’ll take you to the park ok?”
Haile nodded. “I love you daddy.”
“Love you too baby.” He got up and went to the door.
“Goodnight Tai. Will you be here tomorrow?”
Tai smiled, “Of course. Then you can meet my two dogs. Goodnight Haile.”
Tai and Marshall went out the door and down the hall. He stopped and banged his fist against the wall. “I can’t believe that bitch!”
“Marshall, I know you’re angrier than Hell, but you need to try to calm down.” Tai said softly. She took Marshall’s red hand and rubbed it soothingly.
Marshall took deep breaths. “You’re right. But I’m just so angry.”
“So then press charges.” Tai said.
“What about the press? They would just love that.” He said sarcastically. “Sorry.” He apologized when he saw the hurt in Tai’s eyes.
Tai shook her head. “It’s ok. I know you’re mad. But it’s something you got to do. Fuck the press; that bitch thought she could get away with taking Haile to a strip club and hurt her without someone finding out. She needs to get in trouble.”
Marshall thought about it for a second and then nodded slightly. “You’re right. We’ll call them after Carol and I have a little chat.”
“Good.” Tai smoothed the lines on his forehead. “Let’s go then.”
He nodded.
~~&~~
“Who the fuck gave you the right to take my nine year old daughter to a strip club?!” All four people jumped at Marshall’s yell. “You are so dead bitch!” Marshall went to grab her but Tai stepped in front of him, her hands on his chest.
“I thought you were calm?” She asked with a grin.
“I lied.” He said.
Tai rolled her eyes, “Besides you can’t hit a woman. Even if she is a slut.”
Marshall grunted slightly.
“But I can.” Tai let go suddenly and spun around ready to land a hit on Carol but stopped. “The fuck happen to you?”
“Arerell happened.” Curtis said with a grin. “Popped her a good one. Twice”
“Oh.” Tai said and then finished what she started, with a punch to her other eye. “Now you have a matching set.”
“What the hell is wrong with you people?!” Carol took a lunge at Tai but Proof grabbed her from behind. Tai didn’t even flinch.
Tai looked over at Arerell to find her sitting quite comfortable in Curtis’s lap. “Like it there?”
Arerell smiled. “So she took Little Bit to a strip club? I knew she was a pro.”
“I’m not a prostitute!” Carol yelled struggling to get away.
Tai looked at her best friend. “She knows what a ‘pro’ is?”
“Only because I told her after I knocked her good for calling you a slut.” Arerell pointed to her eye.
Tai straightened up. “She called me a slut?” She asked quietly.
Marshall grabbed her when she tried to hit Carol again. “Calm down…she’s not worth it.”
“The fuck she isn’t! Let me go! This chick is just asking for it!”
Marshall just laughed and then called for Rosa.
“Yes Mr. Marshall?” She asked when she came up from the laundry room.
“Can you have the police send someone over?”
Rosa nodded and then made the call.
“There’s a patrol car just down the road so someone will be here soon.” Rosa said when she hung up.
“Thanks.” Marshall said before she left.
He placed Tai in a chair. “Stay here and behave.” He let go of her shoulders when she nodded.
Marshall backed away slowly.
Tai rolled her eyes and then crossed her legs. “I’m not going anywhere.”
s='fo='font-family:Arial'>Marshall grinned and then went to unlock the gates so the police car could come through when it got there.
As soon as he came back in the kitchen the doorbell rang. He sighed and went to answer it. Tai jumped up to follow him.
“I thought I told you to stay there.” He said when she caught up.
Tai just grinned.
~~&~~
Carol had been escorted off the property and sent home. Marshall was to go down to the station the next day to press charges.
~~&~~
“Well, I don’t know about you all, but I’ve had enough excitement for one night.” Marshall said stretching. “Come on Tai, I’ll show you to a room.” He looked over at Arerell, “Curtis or Proof can show you a place to stay.”
Tai went over to hug Arerell. “Goodnight ‘Rell. Have a good sleep ok? You’re coming to practice with me tomorrow.”
“Yeah, alright. That sounds good. I’d like to get back on the team anyhow.” She said returning the hug.
“Yeah, I missed not having my catcher around.” Tai said with a smile. “I’ll see you in the morning then.” She said and then gave Arerell a light kiss on the lips.
“Yeah, night.”
Tai walked over to Marshall. “Are you coming?”
“Ah, yeah.” He looked up at Curtis and Proof to see that they had the same expressions on their faces.
“What?” Tai asked.
Marshall threw his right arm around Tai shoulders as he led her upstairs. “That was fucking hot. Do you kiss her all the time?”
Tai laughed. “How do you think I learned?”
“You taught her how to kiss?” Curtis asked.
Arerell laughed. “Yeah, although she was pretty good at it for someone who had never done it before.”
“Did you ever do anything else?” Curtis asked with a grin.
Arerell wiggled her eyebrows. “Maybe. Now show me to my room.”
~~&~~
“You can wear something of mine if you want.” >
Tai nodded and they went inside Marshall’s room.
He took out a large white tee shirt and some sweats. “Here. They’re kinda big, but the sweats got a drawstring so I guess they’ll be ok.”
Tai nodded. “Thanks. So where do I sleep?”
~~&~~
“Well goodnight Marshall.” Tai said. They were standing outside the door of one of the guest bedrooms.
“Yeah. Night.” He replied. After a short debate he leaned down and kissed her soundly.
They broke apart.
“Those just keep getting better every time.” Tai stated with a smile.
Marshall just laughed as he walked back to his room.
~~&~~
Tai woke from a nightmare and looked over at the clock. One a.m. She couldn’t even remember what the dream had been about but it was something awful. She got up and went into the bathroom to splash water on her face.
After trying to fall asleep again she got up and left thom. om.
Tai was outside Marshall’s room. She bit her lip, not sure if she should go in or not. Finally coming to a decision she opened the door and went inside.
The room was dark but she could see with the little light the moon provided through the window.
Tai silently crawled into the king size bed with black silk sheets.
“Tai?” Came Marshall’s sleepy voice. “Fuck, if I’m dreaming don’t wake me up.” He pulled Tai into an embrace. “You ok?” He asked.
“I had a nightmare.” She said softly. “Can I sleep here?”
“Yeah.” He paused, waking up slightly. “You wanna talk about it?” He asked.
“I don’t remember what it was about. Only that it was upsetting and that I couldn’t fall back asleep.”
“It’s alright. You can stay here.” He said again.
“Thanks Marshall.” She looked up into his sleepy eyes.<:p>
He smiled and kissed horehorehead. “Get some rest.”
pan>
Tai nodded. “Night.”
“Night.”
Tai slept through the rest of the night.
End Chapter Seven
You know…when I was looking over the other chapters, I realized that we were still on day one and there were already six chapters. Haha. So I kinda sped it up a little in the beginning.
Well, what did you guys think? I’m sorry it took so long to update, but look…it’s a really long chapter! Review and let me know what you think.
There is this part in there about Haile being at a strip club. I got permission from Jenn that said it was ok to have. So no tattling. ^_^
The song was ‘Gollum’s Song’ from Lord of the Rings Two Towers. I kinda liked it.
