Leila stopped the car at the red traffic light and held her head.
It thumped painfully.
A bizarre image of some kind of misshapen dinosaur-cross-gorilla digging a hole in a thundering rainstorm crossed her mind.
What the hell...?
Leila blinked and closed her eyes.
He’s sick... I think he’s dying...
Leila blinked and shook the thought violently from her mind.
Please help him...
Leila was struck again with an image of something with a long neck, a pinkish light glowing on its chest.
“WOMAN!” Someone shouted - followed by a stream of insanely rapid French - very angry French.
Leila jumped upright in her seat with a small squeak.
The light was green and she was holding the traffic up.
Leila kicked her foot down on the accelerator - the tyres burning, squealing in protest.
~*~*~
I could see again, but there was something shifting around in me.
It was like a kaleidoscope turning the little beads ever so slightly so that a new picture formed, then back, and back again, back, then back once more.
It was the most bizarre sensation imaginable, I could feel myself breathing, my hammering heart, I could taste the mud in my mouth - and yet - my sight belonged to something else.
I turned my head towards my sight - if that made any sense.
I could see what the psycho man meant by being a Mongoloid Caucasian cross, I looked like your average American, but I wasn’t white - I had a definite Japanese streak.
I was taller than I thought.
There was a soft snuffling kind of noise and the kaleidoscope shifted back again.
I was back in my own head.
The creature I was looking at was like nothing that could have ever been spawned by earth.
Ever.
Are you okay?
“To hell - DO I LOOK OKAY TO YOU?!?” I shouted, sitting up so fast the creature took a cumbersome step back in wariness.
It’s chest, a small area in the center, glowed.
I suddenly was bombarded with a higher emotion, an insane level of calm coming to me from somewhere that, deep in my heart I knew, was not of any place on human terra firma.
Yes, not terra firma. It’s terra incognita.
Right, terra incognita.
Unexplored... By whom? Man?
It was a good feeling at any rate - I felt better.
“What happened?” I asked.
“Mike... God...” Chester’s voice, weak and terrified.
The demons let go, sinking back under a crack in the darkness of my mind.
I exhaled again, for longer this time.
My brain seemed to give a spasmistic jerk, like a hard drive in a computer that had overloaded and was having one last fit before carking it.
Then I was flooded with an image of a star, ending its life, slowly collapsing within itself, having burnt all its energy its gravity was now overpowering it - it was slowly imploding.
Chester uttered a terrified squeak like a mouse being trodden on as my hand which he was holding became still heavier.
I could hear the bed supports groaning under my weight.
It can’t support the weight of a dying star.
Rosie was speaking again, now the demons had backed down she could move in.
I’m not a dying star Rosie...
Suddenly something gave way with a ‘CRACK!’ that sounded more like a gunshot - Chester shouted in pure terror as both of us tilted madly on a three legged bed.
On second thought, maybe I am - crazier things have happened...
“Stay.” Rosie spoke - for the first time in years - she spoke. “Stay...”
She‘s scared - I know it.
The star held onto its light, despite the gravity pulling it more, further and further until a black hole was imminent - it kept going.
Suddenly I feel a release -
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” I bolt upright and scream so long and loud my face goes red; my nails dig into Chester’s hand.
It’s mad - I shit myself - literally - piss myself and orgasm - all at once.
Bile rises in my throat, my heavy panting catches as I retch violently - I lean over the side of the bed, nose almost touching the floor as I heave my guts up all the way to yesterday’s breakfast.
Rosie’s heart light goes insane.
Gone! It’s gone!
The star had died.
But more was lost - I could feel it - I didn’t know if Rosie could, but I’m beyond any doubt.
More had died than a star.
I breathe deeply, gasping - feeling like I’m going to drown in something that isn’t even there.
“Mike - let go!” Chester’s shouting - he’s been shouting for what seems like eternity now.
Realizing I still have his hand in my grip I grab my other hand and wrench it out of the vice like clench.
My heart’s in my throat, hammering so hard I can feel the scars throbbing, I’m pale - more than pale - I’m almost a blue shade.
I turn to look at Chester.
His bottom lip is trembling violently, his face whiter than mine, fear flashing in his eyes like I’ve never seen before.
He bolts off the bed and runs - so fast that Rosie barely gets out of his way in time.
“He could’ve heard you Rosie. He knows.” I mutter weakly, still panting.
Rosie shakes her raptor head.
“Chester scared.” She muttered in her strange E.T. like voice.
Everything about this seems like E.T. - shit, there was something going on in that writers head!
“Shhh. They’ll hear you.” I put my finger to my lips.
She tilts her head understandingly.
After three or so hours of trying to gather my shattered brains, I get up and shower, then dig out some clothes of Chester’s to wear instead of my soiled ones, and then I start cleaning up the disgusting mess I made.
