Day 11
Two in the morning rolled around as Cone and Paige walked into her house trying to be quiet for they hadn’t expected to stay so late at the concert place, but they were having too much fun to do much else. The first thing they heard when they opened the door was Raiden screaming at the top of his lungs. Paige began running up the stairs with Cone a mere second in front of her. They ran into the room where Raiden was suppose to be and saw Mrs. Williams holding their son trying to get him to stop crying. Cone took Raiden into his arms and Raiden began to stop crying after realizing that both his parents were in the room now. Cone looked Raiden in the eyes.
“What’s going on? Are you OK?” Cone asked Raiden who shook his head. “Well, you wanna tell me what happened?” Raiden was now looking at his mother who was standing beside Cone. Paige took a tissue from her purse and wiped the tears from Raiden’s face. Then Raiden turned back to Cone still teary eyed.
“Bad man took me way.” He whispered and then laid his head on his father’s chest. “He told me, I no see mommy and daddy.” Raiden finished as Paige sighed realizing Raiden had just had a nightmare. Cone kissed him on the head.
“Raiden, honey it was just a dream. Daddy and I are right here and we’re not gonna leave you.” She stated causing Raiden’s head to pop up again.
“Promise!” He shouted through his tears. Paige and Cone both nodded.
“Promise.” They said in unison. Raiden seemed to like their response as Mrs. Williams headed out of the room. Cone placed Raiden back in bed and he soon fell asleep to the humming from Paige. Cone then led her out of the room and into the other room where they were both staying. Paige more or less collapsed on the bed and let out a sigh.
“Jay, geez that scared the shit out of me. I seriously thought he was hurt for a minute there.” Cone laid beside her and placed his hand on his head.
“Yeah, me too.” Paige turned onto her side and smiled while looking into Cone’s blue eyes. She knew he had a headache from Raiden’s screaming ‘cuz he had a slight one before the show.
“Got a headache, eh?” She asked softly. Cone nodded as Paige stepped out of the room for a moment and came back with two pills in her hand and a glass of water. “I come with Tylenol.” She stated with a smile. Cone took it willingly and smiled afterwards. “Now I’m going to bed.” She stated stripping down into nothing and crawling into the bed. Cone smiled and joined her. He loved it when she was too tired to put her pajamas on. He loved everything she did and everything about her.
Paige opened her eyes at about ten that morning and smiled to herself as she snuggled up to Cone who was laying awake in bed. He began to run his fingers up and down her back gently causing her to jump a little. She began reaching for his hand trying to get him to stop.
“Jay, that tickles.” She stated softly before pulling herself up his side so that she could lay a soft kiss on his lips. After having received a kiss back she slide down his side and rested her head on his bare chest. She wrapped her arms around his chest and hugged him. “I don’t wanna get up today.” She stated. Cone smiled not wanting to get out of bed himself.
“Good ‘cuz neither do I.” He replied wrapping his arms tighter around her and kissing her on the forehead. “Paige, let’s just sleep the day away.” He suggested. She laid a kiss on his chest before she replied.
“Sleep? I have better plans for you.” She stated pulling the covers over their heads and kissing Cone deeply. Then she heard the door open. She pulled the covers down so she could see who had walked in and noticed Raiden standing in the doorway fully dressed. He was smiling and fidgeting. “Raiden, honey what’s up?” She asked softly as Raiden walked into the room and crawled on the bed.
“Can I go to the park today? Grandma said I could.” He stated. Paige smiled and so did Cone, without knowing that Paige had every intention of going with her son.
“Of course you can go! As a matter of fact Dad and I are gonna go with you.” Cone sat and looked at Paige. He was upset that she wasn’t going to go with their original plan. “Jay, don’t start. We had our fun last night. More then once last night.” Cone smiled. He did get some action more then once last night. Raiden got off the bed and ran out of the room in search of his grandmother who he had more then warmed up to. Paige got out of bed and shut the door once again. She began to throw clothes on as Cone followed her lead.
“You know, we could have fun in the tunnels. They do have tunnels right?” He asked as Paige threw his boxers at him. “I guess that’s a no, eh?” He received his jeans thrown at his crotch and luckily he caught them. “Hey now none of that!” He screamed causing Paige to laugh as she continued to get her clothes on. Cone did the same having taken a shower after the show the previous night, more like the same morning. When they were finished they walked down the stairs and smiled when they saw Raiden and Mrs. Williams standing waiting for them all ready to go to the park and play for a little while.
Raiden was crying as Paige knelt in front of him trying to tell him that they wouldn’t be long. She and Cone were going to dinner with her friends tonight and couldn’t bring Raiden along. Raiden didn’t want his parents to leave him after the dream he had the previous night. He kept thinking that a man was going to kidnap him.
“What if the bad man takes me way?” He asked through his tears. Paige smiled and wiped the trail of tears from his cheeks.
“Sweetie, that was just a dream. Daddy and I will be back in a few hours and grandma and grandpa are gonna take care of you until we get back. She’ll keep the bad man away.” Raiden still didn’t seem satisfied. “If you get scared and you need me at all you can call me on my phone. Grandma has the number and then you can talk to me, OK?” She suggested as Raiden hugged her one more time.
“Paige, we’re gonna be late.” Cone stated as Paige stood. Cone bent down and hugged his son quickly. “You be good, all right?” He added. Raiden nodded as his grandmother picked him up. Paige and Cone walked out of the house and headed towards the car. He took hold of her hand and when they reached the car he opened the door for her. She got into the car and sighed as he got in on the other side. She turned to him, a sad and worried expression upon her face. He smiled, knowing exactly what was going on in her head. She was like this every time they had to leave Raiden and go out somewhere alone.
“Paige, he’s gonna be fine. Nobody even knows we’re here. All the fans think we left for Houston and Dallas ‘cuz one of the shows are tomorrow. Raiden will be fine for a few short hours so you can see your friends.” He stated as he took her hand after having started the car. He backed out of the driveway and headed downtown towards the Hard Rock Café.
“I know. I just worry about him you know? Plus the way he looked when he asked what would happen if the bad man takes him, I just can’t help but think he meant something other then just a dream. He really seemed terrified that some man was going to take him, Jay.” Cone shook his head. He loved his wife but she worried way too much about their son sometimes.
“He’ll be fine. I was scared to death of the scary dude from Halloween when I was a kid. The guy never came after me even though I insisted that he was gonna. Kids have nightmares but they get over them in time. Raiden will be fine. Now stop worrying and enjoy the night.” Paige smiled and nodded. She knew Cone was right. She really did have a tendency to worry too much. She just couldn’t bare the thought of anything happening to their son. She turned her gaze to the window and soon spotted the Hard Rock Café out of the corner of her eye. Her friends were waiting for her. She was just going to have to stop worrying for a bit and enjoy the time she had left with them before the tour took her across the rest of the United States and back to her home of Ajax.
Eleven-thirty rolled around as Paige and Cone turned into her mother’s neighborhood. The night had been fun and filled with jokes, laughter, and memories being dug up from years past along with the making of new ones and catching up with old friends. Paige had a blast but was still more excited about getting to see Raiden. Cone turned the corner onto Paige’s old street and soon saw all of the cop cars and ambulances. Paige grabbed at Cone as he parked the car across the street. Paige ran up to the house with Cone close behind. She was running towards the house when a cop stopped her and Cone.
“Move this is my house!” Paige screamed and they let her and Cone through. They ran through the door. “Raiden!” Paige screamed. She never should have left him. She ran up the stairs and into the room where Raiden had been sleeping to find her mother being loaded onto a stretcher, her father being questioned, and her son nowhere to be found.
“What the fuck happened?!” Cone screamed as a cop approached them. Cone and Paige had never been so terrified in their lives.
“Mr. and Mrs. McCaslin?” The officer asked.
“Where the fuck is our son?!” Cone screamed back. The officer looked down at the ground as Paige’s mother was carried out of the room.
“Some one broke into the house. Mrs. Williams heard the little boy screaming and rushed up stairs to find a man taking your son away.” Paige’s knees buckled and she fell to ground on them as Cone grabbed hold of the nearby dresser to keep himself from doing the same. “The man shot Mrs. Williams and got away with your son.” Paige was hysterical.
“No! Raiden!” She screamed as the sobs racked her entire body. Cone soon joined her on the floor and took her in his arms as they both wept. The officer stood not knowing what to do. He decided to walk out of the room, which he did, leaving Paige and Cone to weep for the lose of their son. Had they of gotten home only a mere half hour earlier they may have been able to save their son. Now everything was in the hands of God. No one else could save their son now. Paige only hoped that her son was still alive. She buried her head back in Cone’s chest not wanting to think about her son not being alive. Another officer walked back in the room holding a piece of paper.
“I suppose you’re the parents?” He asked as Paige’s headshot up. She nodded as Cone did also. “This was found outside of the window. It’s addressed to you miss. Maybe you can tell us what exactly it means.” He stated handing Paige the letter. Her eyes were still fogged from her tears as she opened the letter and began to read it to herself. The letter had been written cutting letters out of magazines and such. Paige shuttered knowing her son was now being held for some sort of ransom.
Dear Mommy,
I have Raiden, my little ransom
Given time my sum
Will raise the records
If not met he’ll be raising to the morgues
You know what I want
Dear Mommy of the not
In time you will give it to me
Or your son’s death shall truly be.
“No!” Paige screamed as Cone took the letter. He read it to himself and couldn’t make out what the letter said either. He was in too much shock to even scream. Nothing made sense any longer. The officer took the letter once more and walked out of the room. Their son’s death was around the corner unless they could figure out what the ransom was.
