Wow...I feel so efficient posting all these chapters at last...please, let me know if i should bother to post the next one :) thanks!
The sound of the gun resonated off the walls of the tiny white room. The screen went dark and then disappeared entirely, leaving the inhabitants of the room in a stunned miserable silence. They all knew now….they had each remembered everything. Daniel felt tears streaming down his cheeks…he remembered feeling so helpless and alone, and he felt selfish now for feeling sorry for himself, knowing it had been that much worse for his lover in the end, knowing that it was his fault his angel was dead.
“Oh God, Dazza…I-I thought I’d lost you forever!” Daniel cried, crushing the smaller man in a bone-crunching hug.
“I’m right here Danny, I’m right here!” Darren cried back, returning the hug with equal force, ignoring the tears that were running down his own face, trying to block out the horrible memories he’d recovered and focus on the one thing that mattered to him,
“We’re okay now.” Darren murmured softly, kissing away Daniel’s tears as he looked into his lovers troubled green eyes. Daniel nodded slowly in agreement, using his thumb to brush away Darren’s tears.
“Gentlemen, if you please…” the angel coughed, interrupting the lovers once again, “You all now have remembered the events that occurred on your final night on earth, and I am sure you can clearly see the dilemma that has been presented to us.”
“D-dilemma?” Darren looked up at the angel, his face a mask of confusion, “What dilemma?”
“Well, you see…I am sorry to report that what happened that night was….well, let us just say that what happened that night was an anomaly…so to speak, a rip in the timeline, if you will. Plainly it was a mistake, none of you were supposed to die that night—“
“Well, if it was a mistake, why can’t you just…send us back?!” Daren asked, “Make us alive again or something!.” Daniel nodded in agreement, feeling frustrated at the angel’s lack of compliance.
“Yes….”Steven smirked, his eyes glazing over, ‘Send me back…..I want to make more pretty angels…”
“We can’t do that…” The angel shook his head adamantly. “The fact is, what happened did in fact happen…you have all died…and there is no turning back now…the only question that remains is where we send you.”
“Send us? What do you mean, ‘send us’, send us where? “ Darren looked confused and more than a little frightened, “Danny and I –“
“Yes, Mr. Hayes, we know well your history with Mr. Jones. All of your histories, in fact. You two are as rare as they come. You see, everybody has one perfect soulmate…but the fact of the matter is they rarely meet that person in their life on earth… You two, however, always manage to find each other. Your souls call out to each other on earth, true soul-twins; you have come together for centuries.”
“Yeah? So what’s your point?!” Daniel snapped, clinging to Darren, needing to feel his warmth and protect him at the same time.
“That is what makes our decision so difficult, you see, it would be a shame to separate such perfect twin souls, but after reviewing the
information I do not see how the panel could come to any other conclusion but to do so.” The angel seemed to be muttering more to himself now than to
Darren and Daniel, a troubled expression upon his features.
“What do you mean separate?! W-why would we—Danny and I are soulmates, you said it yourself! I-I don’t understand!” Darren was growing nervous, near-hyperventilating, clutching at Daniels chest desperately, fearing separation from his lover more than anything at that moment. The angel saw Darren’s fear and his face was instantly one of compassion, smiling warmly at him.
“Let me put this into terms you may be able to understand, child.” He spoke softly, understanding the anxiety that was felt. “Darren, you have lived an exemplary life, with a few fall backs, you have once again proven yourself to be a good spirit. Your life, however, has now ended. When your body dies your spirit comes here, to this very room, or one just like it. This room is known as a judging room. Here, your life is shown on a screen for you to see. You are judged and then it is determined where your eternal resting place shall be….Darren, you have lived a good life….earning you a spot next to our maker in eternal paradise.” The angel’s smile brightened at that, expecting Darren to be moved by such wonderful news. Darren was not moved however. He stayed frozen in Daniel’s grasp, waiting for the angel to continue with bated breath. The angel sensed this and did so.
“Yet, there are some spirits that deviate from their natural goodness…and there are some crimes that cannot be forgiven…Steven, you have committed several such crimes on more than one occasion. What you have done is unforgivable in the eyes of the maker!”
Steven’s eyes widened like those of a naughty child who was being scolded by his mother. For the first time since he had regained his memories he showed some emotion other than that of stifled pleasure at what he had done.
“But…But I was only making pretty angels….mmmm…pretty…” Steven smiled, closing his eyes in remembrance.
“Steven, your soul was pure. That is why it pains us so to see you reduced to such madness, unrepentant no less. You did not deserve your fate on earth and for that we are truly sorry, but we have no choice…”
“I-I made them better! All the pretty angels…I made them beautiful!” Steven protested adamantly, trying to defend what he had done.
“You defiled their bodies!” The angel contradicted, “And tormented their souls! For that, you are a demon!”
“N-No!”
“Yes! I m sorry, but you have chosen your path, you allowed your self to be corrupted, you brought misery and death upon others…and for that you must go to the dark place.”
“Dark place!” Steen gasped, “B-but I want to be with the angels!”
“We cannot allow that…you have earned yourself an eternity of damnation.”
“Good!!” Daniel shouted, anger overpowering him as Darren trembled in his embrace, “The son-of-a-bitch deserves to burn!!” Daniel’s outburst earned him a fiery glare from the angel, who up until then had seemed to be in a very compassionate and complacent mood.
“Daniel Jones, YOU are of the same situation!” The angel snapped, “You have committed two separate crimes against our maker that by all rights should earn you an eternity of damnation as well. You have murdered one of his creations and destroyed another by killing yourself! It is obvious that you are unrepentant and therefore, deserve to go to the dark place as well!” The angel exclaimed, glaring sharply at the blonde.
“Wh-what?! N-no…there must be some sort of mistake…” Darren gasped, not wanting to believe what he had just heard, trying to talk the angel out of what had obviously already been decided.
“There is no mistake.” The angel replied, “You have all seen what has happened, and despite any leniency we may have shown Mr. Jones, by the natural laws of out Maker, Steven White, AND Daniel Jones shall be condemned to hell!”
