Part VII
Tears Fall Down Your Face
Piper walked down the stairs, having heard the door open, and upon seeing Tyson sighed. He was hanging onto Nick. Piper walked over to them and looked at Nick for an explanation, as she could tell Nick wasn’t drunk. Nick smiled.
“He’s gonna pass out soon. Couch, right?” He asked, as Piper nodded. Nick proceeded to get Tyson lying on the couch; he passed out a moment later.
“Were the hell did you guys go? And what exactly did you let Ty drink? He’s completely trashed.” Piper asked, genuinely concerned. Nick led Piper into the next room as to not wake Tyson.
“Piper, he just had a few shots of Jack Daniels. He’ll be fine.” Nick replied. She sat in the nearest chair. “We had a meeting with DreamWorks tonight and they want us to go on another tour.” Piper smiled at his words.
“Well, Nick that’s great. So did you both go out to celebrate or what?” She asked, still wanting to know why Tyson had gotten drunk. Nick sat beside her and frowned.
“They want us to go on a tour the same time as yours this summer.” Piper’s smile faded.
“Terrific.” She said, running her fingers through her hair. “So, what exactly did Ty say to them?” She knew something had to have happened.
“Well, he asked them to push it back so that he could go with you on your tour like we all had planned, but they wouldn’t go for it. He then walked out of the restaurant and Mike, Chris, and I had to finish the meeting. I went out looking for him afterwards and found him at the local bar. He was trashed when I got there.” Nick stood. “You want me to get him upstairs?” He asked. Piper stood next to him.
“Yeah. I’ll help you.” She said as they both approached Tyson on the couch. Once they got Tyson into bed Piper walked Nick back down the stairs and to the door. Before he walked out Piper stopped him. “Nick, why does he drink every time he gets angry or upset, or whatever? It scares me Nick, it really does.” Nick took her in a hug.
“Piper, don’t worry. He just needed some sort of escape and you weren’t there. Alcohol was his second choice.” He took a step back, letting her go. He began to walk out the door but stopped a moment and turned to her. “No matter what Tyson asks you or says to you, still go on your tour. You deserve it.” With that said Nick walked out the door. Piper proceeded to walk back into the bedroom where she spotted Tyson. He was sitting with his hand holding his head. She sat beside him.
“Ty lay back down.” He did as he was told. She looked into his now dull blue eyes. He placed his hand back on his forehead. He had a splitting headache. Piper stood and walked into the bathroom. She grabbed Tyson a glass of water and some headache medicine. He was sound asleep when she returned.
The next morning Tyson blinked his eyes open and again put his hand up to his head. He let out a groan and attempted to sit, but with the pain in his head being so strong he laid back down. Piper soon walked into the bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed. She leaned over Tyson.
“Morning. Still have a headache?” She asked, knowing the answer. He nodded. “Here take this.” She said picking up the bottle of headache medicine and then handing him a pill. He tossed it in his mouth and reached out for the glass of water, Piper handed it to him. He took a sip and handed the glass to her. “You remember anything that happened last night?” She asked, brushing a piece of hair out of his eyes.
“Meeting with DreamWorks.” He stated. Piper nodded and motioned for him to continue. “They want to set up our tours at the same time, and make us go different places. We wouldn’t see each other for months and…” He let out another groan. “And I told them no way in hell then walked out. Last thing I remember was ordering a few shots of Jack Daniels.” He took hold of her hand and looked her in the eyes. “Pipes, I’m sorry for going to that bar. I know you hate it when I get drunk.” Piper smiled at him.
“It’s alright Ty. I want you to get some sleep, ok?” He nodded and she kissed him on the forehead. “Call me if you need anything.” With that she pulled the covers up to his chin and walked out of the room to let Tyson get some rest.
Later that night Tyson emerged from the bedroom and walked around the house searching for Piper. He found her in the living room on the couch and sat next to her. She smiled at him as he laid his head in her lap.
“I guess you’re feeling better then?” She asked warmly. A nod answered her question. She began to run her fingers through his hair.
“Pipes, I don’t want to go on that tour. I don’t want to be away from you that long. I don’t think I can.” She knew that statement was headed her way.
“Ty, you gotta go. It’ll be fine. I’ll rework some of my shows and get them close to yours and we’ll be able to see each other on our nights off. It’ll work out. You’ll see.”
“But the tour they want us to go on is overseas. Nick didn’t mention that did he?” Piper closed her eyes. When she opened them she sighed. “Yeah, my exact reaction. We’ll be thousands of miles apart for months.”
“Well, maybe I can get my tour pushed back, or pushed forward. Either would work.” Tyson forced a smile. He still felt like hell and Piper could tell. She began to massage his temples. He closed his eyes.
“Damn, that feels good.” He whispered. They were both silent for a while, except for the occasional pleasure groan from Tyson. “Pipes, why don’t you just give up your tour? I mean you can always reschedule it for later. Then you can come with me.” He sat upright, rather excited at his offer. Piper didn’t seem happy with his thought.
“How can you ask me to give up my tour? I told you I’d try and get it pushed up or pushed back, but I’m still going. Even if they won’t move the dates I’m still going.” Tyson was now angry as hell, and his head was again throbbing.
“Love means sacrifices. You can’t always have everything your way! You know if I could I’d cancel my tour but the guys wanna go.” They were both now standing in front of one another.
“Listen to yourself! Why not take your own fucking advice! We’re musicians, Ty! I love to entertain, I always have. If you really loved me, you wouldn’t be so upset about all of this. It’s really only two months away from one another.” Her volume had grown a few dynamics to match his.
“What! Only two months? Since we met I haven’t been away from you for more then two weeks. Two months would seem like an eternity.” He had quieted down and his expression softened.
“I know, but entertaining is our job, and don’t lie; I know how much you love it. We can’t just go and cancel shows. We can’t disappoint the fans like that.” His anger again rose.
“I don’t give a fuck about the fans!” A shock of pain ran through his head. Piper took a step towards him.
“Ty, you need to calm down. We’ll talk about this later. Your brain can’t handle this conversation right now.” She gently stated.
“No, we’ll talk about this now!”
“No, we won’t. You need to just calm your ass down before you hurt yourself.” He was furious, and knew he needed to get away from her before he did something he’d regret. He stormed out of the room, and upstairs. Piper heard the bedroom door slam. Tears ran down her cheeks as she dialed Nick’s number. “Nick?” She asked.
“Piper? What happened?” He asked, being able to tell her voice.
“Ty, and I just had a fight. He asked me to quite the tour.” She paused as a sob escaped her. “When I told him no way, we just started yelling at each other.”
“Look, don’t worry about it. Tyson’ll realize that he was being an idiot and you two will fix things. Don’t worry your pretty little head about it. You go ahead and go on that tour. Tyson’s a big boy and he can survive for two months. He’s just being a pussy. He’ll get over it sooner or later.” Nick’s prediction was slowly coming true.
Piper woke the next morning and quickly got dressed. She didn’t want to face Tyson that morning so she headed to the local music store. The store was more or less deserted, as it was early in the morning. She walked in and over to the aisles of CDs and began to look through them. Soon a young girl, no more then fourteen, approached her. She held a CD in her hands.
“Are you Piper McCoy?” She asked, softly, with a growing excitement. Piper smiled.
“Yup, that’s me.” She stated, and then noticed the CD in the girl’s hands was hers. The girl’s eyes lit up.
“Can you please sign this for me?” She held out the CD and Piper took it from her. She fished around her purse for a pen and upon finding one autographed the album.
“How’s that?” She asked, still smiling. The girl thanked her and ran off. Piper already felt ten times better then she had. She headed out of the music store; a sort of happiness filled her as she walked home. She knew that Tyson would be awake when she arrived, so she tried to think of what she would say to him. Thoughts raced through her mind as she hummed to herself while walking slowly home.
Meanwhile Tyson rolled out of bed. His head had finally stopped throbbing, but he still didn’t feel like himself. He looked around the room and soon noticed the note laying where Piper’s head should have been. He picked it up and began to read.
“Ty, I’ve gone to the music store for a bit. I should be back soon. Love you much, Pipes.” He set the note down and rubbed his eyes. Suddenly the events of the previous night played back in his head. “Fuck.” He mumbled. How could he have asked her to quite her tour? He felt like such a self-centered idiot. He hoped she returned soon because he wanted to talk to her. His hope was answered when he heard the door open. He walked down the stairs and saw Piper walking in the door. She looked up at him.
“Ty, you sleep well?” She asked. “I would have waken you and taken you with me, but I figured you needed the sleep. Plus, you looked so cute.” She was acting like nothing had happened the night before. He knew she just wanted to forget it had happened, but he wasn’t about to let her.
“Pipes, I want you to go on your tour. I’m gonna cancel mine. DreamWorks can kiss my ass. I’m not gonna be away from you for that long.” He said taking a few steps towards her.
“It’s not that easy. You can’t just cancel your tour ‘cuz you and the guys could get in a ton of trouble for that.”
“But I want to be with you, and…” He paused, as she spoke up again.
“I know, but we have to do our job. I wanna be with you too.” She smiled at him.
“Pipes, let’s run off together. We can go to Hawaii or somewhere else where the public can’t find us. Let’s get away. We’ll leave all this shit behind.” He paused taking her in his arms. “Let’s just leave.” He whispered looking deep into her eyes. She was completely speechless. He just continued to look in her eyes, awaiting her response.
“Ty, I…” She paused. Just go. She thought to herself. “When can we leave?” She asked. Tyson smiled. He couldn’t believe that she had just said yes. There was a special spark in his eyes, a spark that hadn’t been there for a while.
“Let’s leave now. How fast can you pack?” Even his voice rang with happiness. She took him by the hand and the two ran up the stairs to quickly pack.
Piper and Tyson now sat in the hot tub at a small hotel on the outskirts of Honolulu. Here they were away from the public eye. Things were peaceful as they enjoyed their relaxing weekend away. Piper looked up into Tyson’s eyes.
“Ty, this was the best idea ever.” She pulled herself up so that her lips met his.
“Yeah, it was pretty good wasn’t it?” They both laughed. Soon a hotel attendant walked over to them. He carried a phone in his hands.
“Tyson Ritter?” He asked. Tyson nodded and the attendant handed him the phone.
“Hello?” He asked, wondering who the hell was calling him. He hadn’t told anyone he and Piper were coming here.
“Tyson where the fuck are you!? DreamWorks is fucking pissed off! They’ve been trying to get a hold of the two of you all day.” It was Nick, and he didn’t sound happy.
“Well, Pipes and I needed to get out, so we packed up and came here. We…”
“Where exactly are you anyway? I had to go digging through your house just to find a number so I could get a hold of you. I mean fuck, you could have at least told me you were fucking running off.” Tyson looked over at Piper, who was staring at him, her eyes begging for answers.
“Nick, man I’m sorry. We’ll be back on Sunday. We’re in Honolulu right now.” Tyson stated and then smiled at Piper.
“Damn, Ty. When you run away you run far.” Nick laughed on the other end of the line. “Look, just get back here on Sunday in a good mood ‘cuz like I said before DreamWorks is pissed off. I won’t tell them where you are, but you’re gonna deal with them when you get back.” Tyson agreed and then hung up the phone. He leaned in and kissed Piper, pulling back he looked deep in her eyes.
“God I love you.” He whispered causing her to smile. She again pulled him in for a kiss.
Piper walked out of the hospital nearly in tears. She and Tyson had gone home and fixed things with DreamWorks. Tyson got his tour pushed forward so that she could come with him. Things had been going so well, but this, this was going to mess up everything. She thought about how Tyson would handle it. He wasn’t even home. He was off in New York doing a pre-tour show for MTV. When he returned she knew she had to tell him. She had to ruin all their plans over something that should have been a blessing, as babies often were. But for her and Tyson it wasn’t going to work. This was the unfortunate down fall Nick had predicted.
