[a/n] Sorry it took so long! *bows* I was having problems getting the words to come out the way they should, and there was some difficutly with figuring out how to put what was going on into words.... thank you for being patient. If this seems a little confusing, I'm sorry... all will be explained in later chapters, promise.... and if it isn't for whatever reason, then I'll figure out a way to explain it. Anyway, read, enjoy (hopefully), I'll work on getting the next chapter written so that it can be posted as soon as possible.
Chapter 7
It was late as Toshiya made his way home. The subway had already been closed, and it was somewhat cold outside, but he wasn’t about to pay the ungodly high price for a cab with his apartment only being a few blocks away. It didn’t take more than one cold gust of wintry wind to convince the young man to take the quicker way home, rather than the safer way.
As he made his way down the alley, he looked over his shoulder periodically, knowing that the area was a popular place for gangs to hang out and request odd payments for the use of the alley. It wasn’t long before he looked back to see that he was being followed, and he knew it had been a mistake to try taking the alley. He decided to quicken his pace, hopeful that the thug would give up. He looked back again to see that his pursuer was still following him, and had been joined by a couple of his buddies. He knew he was getting close to the end of the alley, and looked ahead only to have his hope of getting out of this without trouble crushed as three thugs blocked the path in front of him.
The blue haired boy stopped and the gang members approached him.
“Well, what have we here? Were you trying to sneak through here without paying the toll?” the middle man in front of Toshiya asked, taking a handful of the soft blue hair and letting it fall from his fingers. Toshiya said nothing in his defense. He knew that nothing he said would be able to help him.
“How much do I owe?” he figured if anything would get him out of trouble, that was it. As he asked the question, the other six men closed in around him, trapping him completely. Toshiya was growing rather nervous, and even more scared. “I don’t have much money, but I can give you what I have.” the leader laughed as Toshiya shakily fished out his wallet from his pants pocket.
“Heheh.. That won’t be needed.” one of the men to his right said, taking the wallet and throwing it toward one of the walls. The blue haired boy looked from one thug to the other, fear and confusion his only emotions at this point.
“I have nothing else with which to pay you.” almost as soon as the sentence was finished, the leader grabbed Toshiya’s chin roughly and both of his arms were grabbed by thugs from either side of him.
“Someone so beautiful really shouldn’t be walking all alone this late at night.” The leader smirked before pressing his mouth to Toshiya’s, kissing the younger male violently. The blue haired boy fought, but was unable to escape the hold that the others had on his arms. The leader broke from the boy, tears now falling from his eyes, and slapped him hard across the face. Toshiya wasn’t even given the chance to recover from the sudden impact before he was pulled to the ground by those holding his arms. “This will teach you to trespass without paying.” Toshiya was on his chest. Someone was pulling on his pants, and when he tried moving to make it more difficult, two of the thugs took turns kicking him in the chest. The next sound he heard that wasn’t his own crying, was the sound of a zipper, followed by that of a switch blade being opened.
He felt a weight on his legs, and knew that the leader had just sat on him. Once again, he tried moving to get him to stop. This wasn’t a good idea. He stopped moving when he felt something cold touch his throat.
“If you so much as move one inch, I’ll slit your throat.” the blade was moved, and he felt more pulling at his pants, then steel on his flesh. The sound of cloth tearing. The cold of the winter air. He let out one final cry as he felt the penetration.
“Aaahhhhh!!!” Toshiya sat up quickly in his bed, and found himself in someone’s arms. Panicked, he tried to break away, but the other man held on tighter.
“Shhh… it’s okay.” Die whispered into his boyfriend’s ear in an attempt to calm him. “You had a nightmare. It’s okay. You’re safe now.” All that the guitarist could think to do was hold the bassist close to him and try to tell him he was okay, though he didn’t know how well that would work. After a minute or so, Toshiya stopped trying to get away from Die. The red head held the younger man close, and soon he could feel him crying into his shoulder.
“I’m sorry.” Toshiya repeated the words several times, though Die couldn’t figure out why. He had no reason to apologize.

Tension hung heavy in the air at practice the next morning. In fact, it seemed that the only people who weren’t mad at someone were Die and Toshiya.
Shinya was trying to disappear behind his drums, and would speak to neither Kyo nor Kaoru. Kyo wouldn’t show Kaoru any sign of having heard their leader speak, and when he was asked directly by the older man to do something, the vocalist made it a point to do just the opposite. Kaoru was taking his frustration of Kyo and Shinya out on everyone… Die, Toshiya, not even the studio staff were safe from the guitarist’s shot lack of patience. The studio staff were making snide and cruel comments whenever they were in the presence of Kaoru, Kyo, or Shinya, in retaliation of the poor treatment they were suffering.
Kaoru didn’t put up with much of Kyo’s insubordination before calling for a smoke break. The purple haired guitarist threw his instrument down, cursing under his breath, and stormed out of the room. He slammed the door with such force that it didn’t have the chance to latch shut and flew open again.
Toshiya looked up at a clock as he made his way over to the couch.
“And we’ve only been here thirty minutes….” the bassist said quietly as he sat down in Die’s lap.
“At this rate, things will only be getting worse… if they aren’t straightened out soon, there may be nothing left.” They both sat there a moment, lost in their thoughts, before idly taking out a cigarette and lighting it.
Shinya stayed right where he was, behind his drums, waiting on the guitarist to return so that they could get through with the practice.
Kyo sat at a table in the middle of the room, his head laying on his arm. It was unclear if he was asleep or just lost in his thoughts, but he wasn’t moving much, save for breathing.
Toshiya turned to face Die and whispered something in his ear, while making vague hand gestures in Shinya’s general direction and then in Kyo’s. The red head smiled and then nodded as the bassist stood up and made his way over to the bored looking drummer.

Kaoru inhaled the toxic substance emitting from the shaking paper stick that protruded from his mouth. He didn’t have to yell for anyone to know that he was angry. He always had the curse of showing exactly how he felt, not holding any of his emotions inside. He blew up if he got angry enough. The others knew this, and yet they would risk causing such an episode that could bode ill to their well being, especially Kyo’s.
-- flashback --
Kaoru walked the empty street on his way home from work. He normally didn’t take the alley, but something seemed to draw him down the eerie path. As he made his way past one of the many dumpsters, he saw a pair of rather small white shoes. He could tell by their positioning that someone was wearing them, and that whoever it was, they were either asleep, unconscious, or dead.
The man gathered his thoughts and walked carefully around the steel box to see if maybe the person was still alive.
The normally strong hearted man nearly broke into tears at the sight before him. A boy lay on the cold concrete. His once white shirt shredded and dyed a dark red, and in some places brown. His upper body was covered in cuts. His face sported several bruises, and his lip was split and slightly swollen.
“My god.” when Kaoru spoke, the boy opened his eyes to see the older man standing before him. Almost instantly, he tried to get away, pushing himself against the cold brick wall that his head had been propped up by. Kaoru panicked and ran to the boy’s side, pulling him close in a tight hug, he tried to comfort the boy and calm him down.
“It’s okay. I’m not going to hurt you.” Before he knew what had happened, the boy punched Kaoru in the stomach. Not hard enough to do any real damage, but just hard enough to hurt. Hard enough to stun the older man.
“Get away from me! Get away! Don’t… don’t touch me!” the boy demanded, his voice shaking from… fear? Anger? Kaoru wasn’t sure, and he wasn’t about to let go of that boy. He knew that if he did, that one gesture would be worse than anything the boy had already been through.
“No.” As Kaoru said this, he began to gently brush the short blonde strands of hair from the child-like face of the younger man. The latter began to breath faster, and then passed out completely. Deciding it was better for the stranger, Kaoru lifted him into his arms and carried him to his apartment.
-- end --
Kaoru entered the practice studio and looked around. “Everyone, get over here and sit down.” The purple haired guitarist said as he pulled out a chair and sat at the table which Kyo was conveniently already at. Kyo made to stand up in protest but Kaoru was too quick for him. “Kyo, you can stand up for all I care, but if you so much as take one step toward that door, you’ll be finding yourself another job.” The blonde’s eyes went wide and he slowly sat back in his chair, intently watching their leader; the other members made it a vital point to get to chairs quickly. No one said a word as they waited for whatever it was Kaoru wanted. The guitarist sat there a moment, taking in the looks of confusion on all of their faces.
“There will be no practice for two weeks.” the leader had to fight back a laugh as the jaws of his band mates actually fell open in shock. “We have been under a lot of stress lately, and I know this. Therefore, I have deemed it necessary that we take a two week vacation to collect ourselves and relieve some pressure. I know some of us” at this he looked to Kyo, “could really use some clearing of our thoughts.” Kyo averted his eyes. He knew exactly what the guitarist was referring to, but he wasn’t about to admit it. Once the initial shock wore off, Die and Toshiya looked at each other, then to Kaoru, then back at each other before smiling. Shinya looked at them, then at Kyo before looking to his hands, which were sitting idly in his lap. He knew that those two weeks were going to be pure torture. There would be no reason for the vocalist to go see him. It would be just like before. When the band had not been reformed. Shinya was going to be left completely alone, again. “Kyo.” the blonde’s attention went back to the purple haired guitarist. “You are to move in with Shinya during those two weeks.” Shinya’s eyes shot back to Kaoru. Was he seriously forcing Kyo into his home once again? What good was it really going to do? He knew already that living with him wasn’t enough to open his eyes.
“Okay.” the vocalist said the word so quietly, it almost didn’t seem real.
“What? You’re not going to argue this time?” Shinya asked, staring at Kyo in disbelief.
“It wouldn’t do any good, now would it? I’ve lost this fight before, what makes you think I want to lose it again?” Shinya looked back at his hands. Kyo had a valid point, though… he would be lying to himself if he said it was what he wanted to hear.
“Good. Oh, and by the way… practice is canceled for the rest of the day, and the vacation starts now. Get your shit packed and get out of here. If you aren’t ready to go in 30 minutes, you’ll be stuck here for the next two weeks. You are to be here at 10:00 am -sharp- Saturday after next. NO excuses.”
“But…” Shinya looked worriedly from Kaoru to his drum set, the words stuck in the back of his mouth.
“Don’t worry about disassembling that thing. Just get your sticks and music packed, and get out of here. Go have some fun. And don’t forget to take Kyo by his apartment to get some stuff.” Shinya nodded and did as he was told, somewhat relieved that he didn’t have to spend the next hour taking his drums apart.
Kaoru sighed, having effectively gotten everyone out of the room, and stood in front of the door a moment before closing it, and locking it. This was going to be a long two weeks.
