Reasoning
This was going to be another long day, and Eric Bischoff needed plenty of liquor in order to get through it.
He was still working out the details for Kane’s match against Matt Hardy, which was becoming a real hazard and hoped Lita wouldn’t be stupid enough to interfere this time. Kane might do something unforgivable if she did. He really didn’t want to deal with that kind of paper work.
An empty bottle stood on the stand while a full one was settled between his legs, he leaned his head back against the chair and closed his eyes in thought.
It was only a day before RAW and he hadn’t even told Hardy about the deal, not that he really cared. He was more concerned about what stunt Kane was going to pull this time. The big man had seemed very vengeful when he had spoken to Eric about this match, and his eyes were like nothing he had ever seen.
Lita had woken up a monster, and now she would pay the price.
That, was what worried Eric. Just how big of a price she would pay, as Kane gave no hint of what things he would sue against Hardy, was giving him the biggest migraine he had experienced in a long while.
He was about ready to beg Vince for a REAL vacation, not just some one-day thing like with his nephew. What made it worse, Eugene was still on RAW and now had no trust in Eric.
Kane had come by earlier, at Eric’s request, to work out some more details of his match. They didn’t get very far, as Kane wouldn’t tell him just what he had planned. Eric wouldn’t agree to anything unless Kane told him just what he had in mind, he would not let Kane push him around this time.
His response to that was simple, if he wouldn’t let Kane do things his way in a legal match he would do it illegally. Eric wasn’t so quick to give in, as he agreed the match would be a no disqualification match. For now that’s all the match would be.
Eric told Kane to come back later if he wanted to continue the discussion, but only if he was going to tell him what he had planned for Hardy. He wasn’t too happy about that, but Kane didn’t end up destroying anything to try and intimidate the GM.
That was one thing Eric was thankful for, he didn’t need to get another thing added to his hotel bill courtesy of Kane.
Now he sat and waited, warning that if anyone else came to bother him they would be looking at a suspension without pay for at least six months. In this mood, they knew he would go through with the threat and no one dared to challenge his word.
Not yet anyway.
The one person he was sure of that would seek him out sometime today was Kat, the threat wouldn’t even phase her. He knew her too well, even if she has only been with them for a couple months now.
Eric couldn’t figure out her relationship with Kane, whether they were acquaintances, friends, or maybe even lovers. At times they seemed like all three, yet when he asked Kane about it he didn’t even acknowledge the question.
They were so alike it was almost creepy, yet so different it was amazing. Though Eric was glad the Big Red Machine had someone he could talk with, it had been a long time since he had even done that.
Kane was way more fragile then his brother Undertaker, and a lot less experienced. His bastard of a father had brainwashed him so badly it left him mentally vulnerable, all the betrayals he had to endure turned him into the monster they had all come to know.
The fact Kat could understand this worried Eric, but when he talked to her about her past he understood why she related with him so easily. That is where they were different, Kane would lash at others while Kat would lash at herself.
He was roused from his thoughts by someone pounding on his door, he wasn’t sure if it was Kane or Kat and would much rather have it be Kat. Eric reluctantly got up with the bottle in his hand and moved to the door, unlatching it and throwing the door open to meet Kane once again.
Eric groaned and moved aside to let the big man in, closing the door behind them and locking it once that was done. He hoped things would go better this time, as he didn’t feel like adding to his migraine.
Kane sat down on the couch and waited for Eric to get seated as well, running his hand over his head as he thought things out to make sure this is what he would settle for. Eric had to agree to this, he owed him that much.
But even if he didn’t, Kane would have his revenge.
He didn’t care who got in his way.
He would destroy them all.
Eric sat in his chair and sighed, “Have you decided to tell me the terms of this match...” he looked at Kane who growled slightly. Knowing all to well the Big Red Machine hated these kinds of compromises, Eric only hoped he would make this one exception.
“I don’t seem to have much of a choice, do I Eric?” Kane glared at him menacingly, Eric really knew how to annoy him. He clenched his fist tightly as he shook his head, “But I want Hardy...and it’s better to do it this way. I want this match to be a win by ten count, no pin falls and no tap outs. The catch is, they have to be lying down on the ground. If they can sit up or get to their knees, the count will be forfeited. I also don’t want anyone to interfere with this match...anyone.”
He took a deep breath, and Eric knew this was only the beginning of his request.
“I want to spill his blood on that mat and make Lita watch...” Kane’s eyes were filled bloodlust, his need for revenge growing stronger every minute. He focused them on Eric, “If you don’t let me do this the legal way, I can guarantee Matt Hardy will not live to see the birth of his child.”
His gaze told Eric more then he needed to know, and he was in a difficult situation. There was only one thing he could do, “You’re not giving me much of a choice Kane...fine. You have your match, but you better not kill him or end his career or so help me Kane...you WILL regret it.”
Kane stood up and glanced back at him, “Hardy will live...but he’ll wish I had killed him...” When Kane left, Eric immediately went for another bottle of liquor. His migraine was now worse then ever, and he still had to tell Hardy about the match.
The joys of being the GM.
“I’m not stalking him Edge, just looking out for his well-being...” Kat threw a pillow across the room where it landed heavily on Edge’s chest, who took it and stuck it behind his head.
Edge rolled his eyes, “Right. You’re only watching him every time he sets foot out of his room, and making sure he doesn’t see you. Now call me crazy, but most people call that stalking.” He looked at her from his position on the couch, legs spread out as he laid across it comfortably.
“If you’re so worried about it, just go and talk to him. If anything I’m sure you can annoy him into telling you, it works with us.” Edge thought Kat was going to do something drastic if she didn’t find out about the match between Kane and Hardy, and to be honest it was unnerving him.
Kat sighed and shook her head, “He wont tell me anything, says he wants it to be a surprise...I’ll be surprised if I don’t end up going insane...” she sat down and the base of the couch and Edge put his arm around her shoulders with a smirk.
“I hate to tell you Kat, but you’re already there.” He was glad when he got her to laugh, ruffling her hair as she stood back up and moved to the door.
“True, but to put up with you and Chris...both of them for that matter, I’d have to be insane I guess.” She didn’t let him argue back as she slipped into the hallway.
Edge was right, she had to talk to Kane. He knew this suspense was driving her mad, and she also knew he enjoyed it.
Kat didn’t find it too amusing.
When she noticed the door to Bischoff’s room opening, Kat knew she had lucked out. Eric wouldn’t leave his room and only one person would be coming out.
Kane.
The big man saw her right away, and he growled in anger that she had such perfect timing. He knew she wanted to know about his match, but he was reluctant to tell her anything about it.
Kat was quick to catch up with him, but before she could say anything he let out a heavy “No” and opened the door to his room. With a grunt of protest she followed him in and shut the door behind her, her eyes adjusting to the darkness quickly.
“If you don’t tell me, I’ll just find out from Eric...and I rather not give the guy even more of a headache.” She knew that she was most likely pushing her luck. Kane would either give in to her annoyance or throw her out.
To her surprise, he did neither. Instead he only shrugged and laid down on his couch, “Go ahead and ask him, though he may be too drunk to tell you much of anything.” Kane watched her though the darkness, hoping she would just get frustrated and leave.
Unfortunately she wasn’t going to let him shrug this one off so easily.
“Then that leaves you...” She pulled a chair over and sat across from him, waiting for him to answer. They sat, or laid, in a comfortable silence, the mood lightening up a bit as they relaxed.
It was Kane who was the first to break the silence, a question in the back of his mind was just begging for an answer.
“You want to know about this because you...care about me...” His words sounded a bit harsh, as if it hurt him to say them. Kane didn’t even bother to look at her, he only waited for an answer.
Kat was careful about what she said to him, “That’s part of it...yes Kane, I do care about you.” The conversation between her and Undertaker flashed through her mind. Did it really hurt him to trust, and would he trust her?
Kane stared at the ceiling for a while, thinking this just might work if she was telling the truth, “Then if you care about me, don’t ask about the match and stay away from the ring tomorrow. I don’t care what happens. Don’t interfere.”
She only stared at him, hoping it wouldn’t come to this but only slightly surprised that it did. With a sigh she nodded, “Fine...if that’s what it’s going to take...” The request stung her more then she thought it would, but she wasn’t going to go behind his back.
If this is what it would take to gain his trust, then she would do it. She silently stood up and left him to himself, closing the door as she walked down the hall and knocked on the door to her room.
Edge opened the door and raised a brow at her, already knowing it hadn’t gone the way she’d wanted it. He stood aside and let her in, “I know that look...” which he did, all too well. It was the same look he had when things didn’t go his way, the same for Jericho and Benoit.
Kat grunted and sat down on the couch, Edge soon followed her and lay back down with his head resting in her lap.
“He didn’t tell you...did he?” Edge watched her rest her head against the couch and sigh in frustration.
“No...he didn’t. He also doesn’t want me to ask about it anymore or interfere in tomorrows match, and since I gave him my word...I wont.” Kat put her arm over Edge’s chest and groaned in defeat. Kane knew how to make her back off, and he was playing with her affection towards him.
Edge put his hand on her arm reassuringly, “Maybe he doesn’t want you to get hurt, who knows? He just might actually be starting to trust you...” The idea that Kane was starting to trust Kat was a major topic among the wrestlers, and most had already started to place bets on whether he would or wouldn’t.
In his mind, Edge already knew that Kane was starting to trust her. He might not want to, but the Big Red Machine knew he could.
Edge was going to make damn sure that he did trust her too; he cared about Kat just as much as Jericho and Benoit did. All three of them wanted Kane to trust Kat, not that it was tearing her apart that he hadn’t, but the two had a chemistry that none of them had seen in quite a while.
She shrugged, smiling a bit at the thought, “Maybe he is...” Kat kissed Edge’s cheek, making him grin slyly.
“Save that for your boyfriend, that guy hasn’t been kissed in ages!” Edge quickly rolled off the couch and opened the door, getting a decent head start on Kat as she chased him down the hall.
He opened the door to the stairs and took them two at a time; lucky he didn’t slip and break his neck in the process. Edge swiftly made his way to the pool where Evolution was enjoying them selves. They all turned to watch Edge as he came barging in with Kat on his heels.
Randy and Batista exchanged grins and waited patiently as Edge knew what they were planning and made his way past them, Kat so focused on Edge that she didn’t even see them until it was too late.
The two jumped out of the water and grabbed Kat, pulling her in the pool with them as Edge turned around and watched. Kat came up and shook her head, sending water everywhere as she waited for Randy to come up and tackled him in the water.
Edge was too busy laughing at the trio and was surprised when a rough shove sent him flying into the pool, getting Kats attention as she looked up and saw Hunter smirking. Edge finally surfaced and sent a wave of water at Hunter, who only backed up and went to sit back down on his chair.
Kat grinned at Edge who stuck his tongue out at her when Batista picked her up and threw her deeper into the pool. Randy and Edge were eyeing each other wearily until Kat resurfaced and pushed them both back down into the water.
Soon it was Edge and Kat vs. Batista and Randy as they tried to see who could dunk each other the most. It wasn’t long before Hunter and Ric joined the contest, and Kat thought them were going to get pummeled.
Luckily the cavalry arrived as Jericho and Benoit sent a shower of water over them all, this time it was a free for all as they tackled one another and sent water everywhere.
Kat soon forgot about trying to reason with Kane, deciding that he would have to trust him on this one.
She only hoped he would trust her in return.
