Gina walked down the hallway, heading outside. As she passed the downstairs game room, she heard loud laughter and music. Peeking in, she spied Courtney, Kyle, Preston, and Wee-Man engaged in a battle of epic proportions on the Guitar Hero Four game on Playstation Six.
“Gina! Come play! This is fun! We get to sample the game before its even out in stores!“ Courtney called out, gesturing for Gina to come play. Gina thought about it for a second, but decided she wanted to get some fresh air instead.
“Maybe later,“ Gina smiled back.
“Yeah, you’re just too scared I’ll beat ya!“ Kyle cried out, laughing.
“Yeah, yeah that’s definitely the reason,“ Gina rolled her eyes. Next to herself, Kyle was probably the worst gamer in the whole house.
Gina moved on down the hallway and finally sauntered out the back door of the house. What Heather had said hurt, but it was the truth. What hurt even worse was that she couldn’t figure out how to remedy her problem. She couldn’t dwell on her problem much longer, however, because yells from the half-pipe in the backyard caught her attention. Bam was skating with Dunn and pulling some mad air and tricks. Gina’s eyes twinkled. She had always wanted to learn two things in life: To skateboard, and to play electric guitar. Maybe this was her chance to learn to skateboard. She saw Steve-O sitting on the concrete slab beside the half-pipe, watching Bam and Dunn. Gina skipped over and stood behind Steve-O, casting a shadow over him.
Steve-O looked up to see who was there. “Hi, Gina. Whatcha doin?”
“Nothing, which is where you come in,” she smiled, grabbing his arm and pulling him to his feet.
“What?”
“Teach me to skateboard, please!” Gina whined like a sad third grader.
“What?”
“Please, Steve-O! I’ve always wanted to learn. I am pretty coordinated, just teach me, please!”
Steve-O sighed, glancing up at Bam and Dunn.
“What’s going on?” Bam asked, skidding to a stop beside them.
“Gina wants me to teach her how to skateboard,” Steve-O said with a smirk.
Bam looked Gina up and down and then laughed. “Good luck, Steve-O!” he jeered, turning and skating back into the half-pipe.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Gina cried out angrily.
“Oh, that’s just ol’ Bam’s way. He’s just being an ass!” Dunn replied.
Gina rolled her eyes. “Come on, Steve-O.”
Steve-O watched Gina pout for a few minutes before giving in. “Fine, whatever. But if you fall or something, don’t get pissed at me.”
“YES!” Gina screeched, jumping up and down excitedly.
The phone ringing made Pontius jump in surprise before quickly pulling his pants up as if the person on the other end of the line could see him. Savvy chuckled to herself as she reached to answer the phone.
“Hello?”
Pontius listened in, looping his arms around Savvy’s waist and playfully nibbling at her neck.
“Stop it, Chris!” she hissed, pushing him away so she could concentrate on the phone call.
He pouted and wandered over to the edge of the bed, which he started humping, trying to get Savvy to laugh.
“Chris!” she hissed, trying to laugh quietly. “Yes, Brent, I am listening,” she managed to say into the phone, turning her back to Pontius.
Pontius snuck up to the DVD player and turned on a porno as loud as he could.
“Chris! Oh my, God!” Savvy screeched, grabbing the remote off the bed and muting the TV. She threw the remote at Chris’ head, but missed. She covered her other ear, concentrating on the phone conversation.
“What? Really?” she said after a few moments. “Awesome!” she screeched excitedly, “Can I tell everyone? Sweet!”
Pontius made to sneak up behind Savvy, but she hung up the phone and raced from the room yelling, “Everyone into the living room!”
She found Preston, Kyle, and Courtney in the game room, still absorbed by the Guitar Hero Four demo. They promised they would join her in the living room after the next song. Savvy found Knoxville sitting on the front porch, listening to his iPOD. He followed her into the living room and flopped onto the couch. She opened the back door and spied Gina’s sad attempt at trying to learn to skateboard. Gina was trying her hardest to stay upright on the skateboard, and Steve-O was getting frustrated by her inability to let go of his arm whenever he tried to push her off on her own. They weren’t even located near an incline, and Gina was still terrified of falling off. Savvy called out to them to get their asses into the living room as soon as was humanly possible.
“Fuck off, I’m skating!” Bam replied.
“Then I guess you won’t find out about the first challenge!” Savvy yelled back.
“What? The first challenge?” Gina screeched, jumping off the board and racing toward the house.
When she jumped off the skateboard, it rolled backward and slammed into Steve-O’s legs.
“Ow, fuck!” he yelled.
Gina turned at his outburst and realized what had happened.
“Oh, my God, I am so sorry!” she spouted.
“It’s alright, I’ve been through much worse,” Steve-O replied, limping painfully toward the house.
“I’ll just get Heather to kiss it and make it feel better,” Gina grinned.
“Yeah, dude!” Steve-O laughed.
Everyone gathered in the living room, anxious to hear about the first challenge. Savvy smiled around at them all, basking in their anticipation.
“So? What’s going down?” Gina asked, voicing the question bouncing around in everyone’s mind.
“Well… Trent called-”
“Interrupting some good hea-” Pontius interjected.
“Heartfelt conversation!” Savvy finished for Pontius.
“Yeah, heartfelt conversation…” Pontius opened his mouth and bobbed his head back and forth making gurgling sounds in his throat.
Gina gasped, her hands going to her face. Everyone else was cheering and laughing. “Oh my God, Savvy!” she exclaimed.
“Hey, you have no room to talk, Gina! At least she wasn’t in a dark, dingy garden shed, her freshman year-” Heather started.
Gina leaped off the couch, rushing to Heather and covering her mouth so she couldn’t continue.
“Anyway, moving on, first challenge! Please continue, Savvy!” Gina gushed, her voice nervous.
Steve-O leaned over to Johnny. “There’s your problem, man. You haven’t gotten her in a garden shed!” he let out a hearty laugh. Johnny chuckled.
Savvy took a deep breath before continuing. “Our first challenge is a ghost run.”
“A ghost run?” Preston asked.
“Yes. The girls, and Kyle, are on one team, and the guys are on the other. Each team will get five clues that will lead you to a haunted attraction in the area. You have to get ticket stubs for each member of your group at each attraction and a picture. The first team back here with five ticket stubs from every person in their team, and five pictures, wins!”
“Wins what?” Wee-Man asked.
“Well… he didn’t say. We don’t find out the prizes until after the challenge is over.”
The group groaned.
“I hope we win something good!” Heather smiled.
“Already planning on winning?” Johnny asked with a smirk.
“Planning is for nerds… we are winning this thing!” Savvy said.
Gina gulped. “I wouldn’t be too sure, there, guys.”
“What? Why?” Savvy asked.
“You know I am not too fond of haunted houses and stuff.”
Savvy cocked her eyebrow. “Gina, for the past, like, eleven years, we have been doing the Haunted Woods thing for your mom. You know its fake and you’re scared why?”
Gina sighed. “Not scared exactly… just… I don’t know… the anticipation of-”
“Someone jumping out and scaring you?!” Wee-man cried out, jumping at Gina and startling her.
“Yeah, yeah, exactly! That bothers me,” Gina sighed.
“Don’t worry cuz I am right there with you,” Heather grumbled.
“Well, dang, winning this thing will be cake!” Wee-Man laughed.
“Hey, just to beat you guys, I can definitely run through some haunted houses!” Gina said, although she still looked nervous.
“Hell yeah, our victory is going to taste so sweet!” Heather laughed.
