AN: Nkundra you should start randomly singing to your boyfriend. If he complains, pout and say you're being romantic!
That should make him happy.
“So!” Hayley seemed to appear out of nowhere. Ville jumped a mile. His locker slammed shut.
“Hayley Jillian, I swear, if I don’t starve to death, I’m going to kill you.” He promised. Hayley just giggled.
“I was just wondering how dinner went. You said you were going to go and eat with that hockey player.”
“No, I said his mother invited me and I guessed I would go.” Ville corrected her.
“Same difference.” She shrugged.
“Big difference. You’re making it sound like I invited myself. April insisted I go. That’s what happened.” He told her firmly. Hayley smirked.
“April, huh?”
“Shut up.” Ville sighed. He loved her to bits and pieces, but she was irritating sometimes.
Hayley practically skipped next to him as they made their way down the hall.
“Where’s Mige? Isn’t he supposed to be entertaining you or something?”
“He had to come in early to serve a detention.” She made a face and flapped her wrist. “I don’t get to see him until lunch.”
“Oh, joy.” Ville rolled his eyes. Hayley stuck her tongue out as she ducked into their trigonometry class.
**
He wasn’t sure he wanted to go back to school. He had enjoyed laying in bed and being nursed by April. He had long dark marks under his eyes. He hadn’t slept more than a few hours at a time since that dinner with Ville.
Bam’s dreams had been haunted by those bright green eyes and the feeling of metal being slipped down his shirt. He had found himself imaging being kissed by those plump lips, those fingers slipping to the side of his neck. Bam hunched his shoulders as he walked up to Dunn. Dunn grinned and slammed his locker closed.
“Dude! Missed ya,”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. You’re the mastermind behind all our fuck with Raab plans. He’s been living altogether too comfortably.”
The aforementioned Raab came strolling in just then. He was eating a doughnut and practically humming to himself. The cheery expression on his face melted when he saw Bam.
“You’re back.”
“Yeah, scared?” Bam sneered. “You act like you ate me or something.”
“I don’t hate you, dude!” Raab jumped in. “My life just gets a whole lot harder whenever you’re around. That’s all.”
“Good,” Bam laughed. They pushed and shove each other as they made their way down the hall.
“Bam, good to see you back.” Rake, a frizzy haired junior they liked to hang out with smiled at him.
“Just the guy I wanted to see! Listen, what do you know about a girl named Hayley? She said she’s a senior here.”
“Hayley? Oh, she’s my lab partner in chemistry. Cool girl.” Rake nodded as he pulled down some books.
“Let’s see, she hangs out with Mige and Ville.”
“Ville?” Bam’s tongue turned to lead. “Ville Valo?”
“You know him?” Rake asked.
“Sort of. I didn’t know he went to school here.” He tried to produce some saliva.
“Yeah, he goes here. I have a creative writing class with him.” Rake shrugged. He checked his watch.
“Did you want me to find Hayley for you? Tell her you’re looking for her?”
“Please?” he cleared his throat. He knew now that Ville and Hayley were best friends. He tried to pretend to himself that he wasn’t interested in Ville at all. He wanted to thank Hayley for all her kindness at the hospital.
And, well, if he ran into Ville in the meantime… That would just be a nice coincidence, wouldn’t it?
“All right. I gotta get to history.” He wandered away, shoes untied. There was always something missing or disheveled about that kid. It was a wonder he hadn’t tripped over his shoe laces and broken his nose yet. Somehow, he managed to stay put together and even skate.
Brandon Dicamillo came up just then. He only just barely managed to get to school on time every day. He was eating a doughnut too. He punched Bam on the shoulder and popped a doughnut into his mouth.
“Come on Bam, we need to get to class too,” Dunn tugged on his friend. “We don’t want to be late.”
“No.” he agreed. “We don’t want to be late.”

“Hayley, one of my friends was asking about you.” Rake told her as they sat down in the lab.
“Oh yeah?” she was reapplying some of her powder. “Does this look even?”
“Here,” Rake took the puff and dabbed it into the makeup. He smoothed it over her forehead.
“Ville would get so mad at me for encouraging you in wearing this stuff.”
“Yeah, but he can’t tell me what to do! No matter how much I love him.” Hayley grinned. “Who was asking about me?”
“He’s a sophomore. His name is Bam.” Hayley froze.
“Really? You’re friends with Bam?”
“Yeah.” Rake pushed his glasses up his nose. “He was asking about you earlier. I didn’t know he knew you.”
“I met him at the hospital. He was on my floor. Did he ask anything else?” Hayley licked her lips.
“Just if I knew Ville.”
“Did he?” Hayley purred. Rake was confused.
“Well, yeah. I didn’t know he knew Ville either. The boy has connections or something.” He chuckled.
“He wanted to know about Ville… Fuck, Mige! I promised Mige I wouldn’t get involved.” She cursed.
“Get involved in what?” Rake blinked. Haley pursed her lips.
“I didn’t promise, though, that you weren’t going to get involved. So I don’t think Mige can be upset about that, can he?” Hayley mused.
“Rake, how much do you know about gay boys?’
“What?”
“Come on, I need you help!”
“What, with the chemistry? That’s not hard. Listen, all you have to do is---.” Rake pointed to something on the paper.
“No, I need your help in getting a couple of boys together.”
“But I’m not gay.” He sounded
disappointed. “I don’t know anything about that. I don’t think I can help you at all.”
“You can help.” She assured him. She thought hard, trying to think of something to bribe him with.
“You like Arabella, don’t you? The exchange girl from England?”
“Yeah!” Rake’s interest suddenly spiked.
“Well, she happens to sit next to me in Spanish class.” Hayley began coyly. “I might be able to arrange for you two to bump into each other at the mall. I know it’s not a date, but it’s the best I can do.”
“Deal!” Rake looked stoked. The teacher came in just then, dripping papers, patting is toupee into place.
“All right, all right, everyone take their seats.” He instructed the already seated class. He turned to the whiteboard and began to write with his markers. Somehow he managed to make them squeak with every stroke.
Lunchtime came soon after. Ville saw Hayley standing at the end of the line, waiting for him with her tray.
“Come on, I found a new place for us to sit.”
“Why? What’s wrong with where we’ve always sat? I like that spot!” Ville dragged his feet as they crossed the cafeteria.
“Sometimes I think you belong in the nursing home instead of high school. You’re just like those grumpy old men who get nasty when I put their wheel chairs in a new spot.” Hayley sighed.
“See, they have the right idea. I’d like to meet them.”
“They wouldn’t like you. Boys don’t wear eyeliner.” She smirked.
“And girls are supposed to look like the walking dead?” he shot back.
“Of course not. But I don’t let them give me crap about it. They’ve all ended up liking me because I’m a “saucy little girl”.” She grinned. Ville just shook his head.
“I will never understand you.”
“You weren’t meant to.” She sang.
They sat down at a table littered with sophomores. He looked curiously at Hayley, but she was absorbed in arranging her lunch. He surveyed the faces surrounding them. None of them were any that he could put a name to.
Except for one.
One with curly brown hair and blue eyes and a chrome chain just barely peeking out of the collar of his shirt.
