Anyone taking the time to read this!!!!
Chapter 7:
I blearily opened my eyes.
The clock on the nightstand read 6 p.m.
I lifted my head off of the bed.
I winced as my cheek was peeled off the book’s page. I guess I fell asleep while reading.
So much for getting used to the time change.
I slowly walked to the sink to grab a glass of water for my dry mouth. It felt like I had attempted to eat sand paper or something.
After gulping the water down in record time, I blankly stared at myself in the mirror for a few seconds.
I was not looking too well.
I was unusually pale.
I didn’t find that to be flattering.
But the idiotically blank look on my face didn’t exactly do wonders, either.
I hoped to God that I wasn’t getting sick or something.
I do not do well when I’m sick.
Well…no one really does…but I do even worse.
I mean to me, something as simple as the common cold acts like some type of deadly disease or something.
It was not pretty. At all.
In fact, it actually disturbed most people. Even Kaoru.
It takes a lot to disturb Kaoru.
I remember that once, when I was seventeen, I caught the flu.
It started out as your typical, normal flu. Then got much worse.
I even started having hallucinations and everything.
Like I said, not pretty.
Turning away from the mirror, I flicked a lamp on so I wouldn’t trip and break my neck on something.
That’s exactly the kind of thing tat would happen to me; being killed because of my clumsiness.
As I slowly made my way back to my bed, Kaoru walked through the door.
Apparently he noticed I wasn’t looking too great at the moment.
“You okay?” he asked me.
“Yeah. Sure,” I mumbled, laying back down on the bed, but this time I wrapped the covers around me.
“I’ll take that as a no,” he said dryly, watching me in all my misery.
“Hmmmmmmmm,” I grunted, snuggling deeper into the bed.
“I’m guessing you’ll pass on dinner tonight.”
“Mmmmmmm hmmmmmmm.”
I was already drifting off into unconsciousness.
“I’ll come back to check up on you later,” he told me.
“Mmmmmmmm.”
I wasn’t exactly coherent at the moment; in case you couldn’t tell.
Yep. As far as I could tell, I was definitely getting sick.
Fun…not.
I was up by the time Kaoru came to make sure I was still alive and whatnot.
I was alive. I just felt like I was on my deathbed.
I’d only been awake for a few moments when my older step-brother had entered the room.
I’d just been sitting there stupidly blinking at the wall.
Oh, I was out of it all right.
“Feel any better?” he asked me.
“Not really.” My voice sounded like a frog croaking.
Kaoru walked over to me and placed a hand on my forehead.
“You feel warm. You probably have a fever. You should get some more sleep,” he told me.
“Not arguing here,” I said in my raspy voice.
I climbed back under the covers and gladly tossed off again.
I woke up to Kaoru gently shaking me awake.
“Any better?” he asked me, looking concerned.
“I wish,” I snorted.
“I don’t want to leave you here alone while the rest of us are at practice.”
“Right. Okay. Just give me two seconds before I get moving,” I told him. I still had that frog-like voice.
I slowly swung my legs off the bed and sat up.
This sure as hell topped off the hangover.
I didn’t even bother taking a shower.
All I did was get dressed, get out of the bathroom, and slowly trudge out the door.
Oh this unquestionably exceeded the hangover by far.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
For once, I wasn’t squished in the car.
Kyo was.
I was one of the people squishing him.
If he minded it, he didn’t show it (or I just couldn’t tell…I’m not always the best when it comes to reading people).
Instead, he looked at me and informed me, “You look even worse then when you had the hangover.”
I didn’t even have the strength for a snippy retort or sarcastic statement.
I simply settled for flipping him the bird, instead.
Toshiya, who was on Kyo’s other side, snickered.
I didn’t look to see Kyo’s reaction.
I turned and delicately rested my forehead on the cool glass of the window that I was sitting next to.
I didn’t hear any spoken response, either.
Fine by me.
I slowly climbed out of the car when we reached our destination.
I at least made into the building without collapsing in a little heap on the floor.
I opted for lying down on a couch in a separate room from where the practice was being held.
I laid there in a catatonic state that was somewhere between consciousness and unconsciousness for a couple hours when Kaoru came to quickly check up on me.
He pressed a cold, wet cloth to my forehead.
It felt like heaven.
“We’ll wrap it up soon,” he told me.
“Mmmmnnnnnn.”
Coherent speech was far, far beyond my capabilities at the moment.
Not to mention that my voice had gone from a frog’s croak to god knows what the hell else.
It didn’t take me long to pass out again for like the hundredth time in the past twenty-four hours.
Being sick sucked.
Big time.
What happened to me being all happy and somewhat bubbly yesterday morning?
I liked that so much better then this.
About an hour later, Kaoru came along a gently prodded me awake.
“We can go back to the hotel now,” he told me, helping me sit up.
“Mmmnnnnnggggghhhhh.”
I know; very eloquent.
I slowly climbed back into the car and acted catatonic, once again.
When I was finally back inside the hotel room, I glanced at myself as I passed a mirror.
If it was even possible, I was looking way worse then before.
I was deathly pale, sweaty, and there were dark circles under my eyes. I looked dead or something.
I didn’t find it pleasant.
I dropped back onto the bed. I didn’t bother pulling the covers around me, I felt warm enough already.
Several minutes later, Kaoru walked through the door.
By the look on his face, you’dve thought I was some freakish undead creature.
Was it really that goddamn bad?!?!?
He grabbed a washcloth off the sink’s counter, turned the faucet on, and doused it in cool water.
“I have to leave for a little while to fix up some details about tomorrow night’s concert,” he told me, pressing the washcloth to my forehead. “I’ll have one of the guys check up on you while I’m gone.”
“Okay.” Now my voice was practically nonexistent…but at least it wasn’t as painful to listen to as the frog’s croak it was before.
After he left the room, I stared at the ceiling for a few minutes and gradually fell asleep.
I awoke to someone pressing another cold, damp washcloth to my forehead.
Giving my eyes a minute to adjust, I saw that that person was Kyo.
There was something unexpected.
“You’re the last person I expected to check up on me,” I told him.
“The feeling’s mutual,” he said dryly. “Toshiya and Die are glued to a video game like it was a life or death matter and Shinya was sleeping. I don’t want Kaoru to kill us all because we didn’t check to see if you were alive or not.”
“Oh.”
“Do you get sick like this often?” Kyo asked me.
“Well, I don’t get sick very often, but when I do, it’s pretty bad like this,” I explained to him.
“Sucks for you.”
“No kidding.”
“I’ll leave to rest some more.” He turned away from me and moved towards the door.
I kind of wanted to say something else to him, but I dind’t know what to say. So, I opted for just keeping my mouth shut, instead of opening it and sounding stupid.
Foe a second, I actually though he was going to something else because he hesitated right in front of the door, but instead he opened it and left the room.
Dammit…was he purposely trying to mess with my head and confuse me?!?!?
If he was, he was doing one hell of a job of it.
If he wasn’t, then…I don’t know.
I’m just tired of being confused, okay?
A/N: So, hopefully you all think this one is of decnt length. I already have the next chapter written, but I'm planning on torturing it and putting it through tons and tons of editing. But I'll try to update as soon as possible.
