Chapter 7: An Unexpected Surprise
∞♥♥♥♥∞
“This sucks,” I said as I slapped my suitcase down onto the bed. I unzipped it and gathered up my dirty clothes.
“What? Being home?” Chris set his suitcase next to mine, unzipped it, and gathered up his dirty clothes as well.
“Yes. I want to go back to Hawaii.” I dumped my clothes in my hamper.
Chris did the same.
Next, I zipped the suitcase, and then set it on the floor. I exchanged it for the suitcase we kept our souvenirs in. “I wish our leis had lasted. Those would have made nice souvenirs.” I took out the snow globe we had gotten for Chris’ niece, and shook it. “I wonder why they have snow globes in Hawaii. It never snows there.”
Chris smirked. “They have snow globes everywhere. It doesn’t matter if it snows there or not. And as for the leis, I saved some petals from the flowers for the scrapbook.” He pulled out the petals from his pocket.
I made a face. “Those are going to turn brown and crumple.”
He shook his head. “Not if I press them in the scrapbook. People save petals for their photo albums all the time.”
“Well, you better press them soon before it is too late and they crumble. I’m surprised they haven’t already.” I took out the rest of the gifts and set them on top of the dresser.
“Well, if they crumble, I can always give you a new lay,” he said nonchalantly.
“Where are you going to get one? We’d have to go all the way back to Hawaii.” I grinned as I realized what I had just said. “On second thought, that’s a good idea.”
He shook his head and rolled his eyes. Then, he grabbed me by the waist and pulled me closer to him. “That’s not the kind of lei I meant.” His lips were brushing against my ear as he said it, and I could feel his hot breath against my neck.
I smiled. “Oh! In that case, I think I’d rather have the kind you’re talking about.”
We kissed for a few moments, and I blindly tried to push the suitcases off the bed.
He broke the kiss, and he zipped his suitcase back up while I zipped the souvenir suitcase. We set the suitcases to the floor, and then he headed to his laptop.
I watched him with shock. “Excuse me, but where are you going? You can't get me worked up like this, and then just leave me.”
He turned and smiled at me. “Hold on just a second. I just want to check my emails.”
“Can’t it wait?” I was a little offended that he was choosing the Internet over me.
“You know I always like to check and see if anything happened while we were gone. We’ve been gone for a week. A lot could have happened since then.” His laptop booted up, and he went to his gmail account.
I sighed. “I’m still not seeing why this has to be now.”
“I’m not going to be able to give you my full attention if I’m wondering if anything happened while we were gone.”
“Well, gee, it’s nice to know you want me so much that nothing can distract you while we’re in bed together,” I sarcastically grumbled. I was going to have to step up my game, I figured.
He sighed, then flipped his laptop closed. “You’re right.”
I grinned. “I’m right?”
He nodded, then got out of his chair, walked over to me, and took me in his arms. “No email could be more important than you.” He kissed me, and started backing me towards the bed.
I smiled, and kissed him back, gladly lying down on the bed for him. “That’s what I’m talking about,” I murmured against his lips as he began to undress me.
I sighed contently. Maybe being back from Hawaii wasn’t so bad after all.

I smiled as I saw Blake sleeping in our bed, his skin moist with sweat from our love making. I gently stroked his cheek, and kissed his lips. I knew it wouldn’t wake him. He was a heavy sleeper—especially when he was really tired. Between the long flight home and our love making, I knew he would be out for an hour at least. Surprisingly, I wasn’t that tired this time. I guessed it was because I wanted to check my emails. I had always been like that. When getting home from a vacation, I felt the need to check my emails and my myspace to see if anything new had happened while I was gone. Blake and I hadn’t brought our laptops to Hawaii, because we had agreed to have no distractions on our honeymoon. I guessed that the need check my messages now was what was keeping me awake.
I headed over to my laptop and lifted the lid. When the screen came back into view, I searched through my emails.
There was junk mail and messages from my friends welcoming me home. I finally came across one from my father. I clicked on it, figuring he was just welcoming us home. As I began to read it though, I realized there was much more to it than that.
Welcome back, Son! I hope you and Blake had a fun, romantic time. I also hope you brought your Pops something special home. Maybe one of the Hawaiian girls? Ha! Just kidding. Don’t tell your mother.
I laughed to myself.
Anyway, I got this message on myspace. I think it’s legit. I’ve talked to her a couple times, and she seems like she is telling the truth. I haven’t actually met her since she lives in LA, so I can’t say for sure. If she is telling the truth though, things are going to be a whole lot easier on you and Blake when it comes to adopting. Instead of explaining, I have forwarded to you the first message that she sent me through myspace. So, go check your myspace, and you’ll find it. I didn’t bother sending you her other emails to me. They are basically just answers to questions I had regarding her sincerity. Anyway, I want you and Blake to take a look at the letter (I sent him a copy to his myspace as well), and let me know what you think. Your mother and I are willing to help you two in any way that we can. Take care, Son, and call us. Love you always, Pop
I was more than curious by now, not to mention a little confused. How could a letter from some lady we didn’t know help us adopt a baby?
I logged into my myspace and searched down the long list of messages until I found my father’s forward to me. I clicked on it, and then read the letter.
Hello, Danny. I hope it’s okay to call you that. Anyway, you don’t now me, but I heard your son and his husband say on Ryan Seacrest’s show that they want to adopt a baby. I am a big fan of both your son and his husband. I know I should be writing this to them and not you, but I figure they get enough messages from fans, and that you would be more apt to read this in time. I’ll get to the point because I am sure you are a busy man.
Two months ago, I found out that I am four weeks pregnant. I found out two weeks after the father and my parents got killed in a car crash. They were all coming to pick me up from work. They were going to surprise me and take me out to dinner. A drunk driver ran a red light and ran right into them. My father and mother were killed instantly. My fiance only lasted the night. I am an only child, and believe it or not, both my parents were as well. Meaning, I have no siblings nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, or cousins. My grandparents died a long time ago—both sets. This means I have nobody. I have an okay paying job. I was able to move into a one bedroom apartment and have a couple years’ rent already paid for due to my inheritance. Even so, I don’t have money to support a child. I couldn’t bear giving my baby up to people I don’t know, yet, I can’t afford to keep it. I call my baby it because I won’t know the sex for another eleven weeks or so.
Anyway, I felt it was a sign from God when I heard that your son and his husband want to adopt a baby. I know the waiting list for a baby can be atrocious, so I would be honored and forever grateful if your son and his husband would adopt my baby. I am giving it to them. I wouldn’t trust anyone with my baby more than I trust them. I know they will be excellent fathers. I assure you, this is not a joke. I am very serious about this. I want to make sure my baby will be in good hands, and I know it will be with those two. I hope to hear back from you. Thank you and God Bless. - Isabella
I sat back and took in what I had just read. If this lady was for real, then Blake and I would have our baby without having to worry about being on a waiting list. We could have our baby and not have to worry about adopting someone older.
I looked at the letter again, and saw that Isabella had left her home address and phone number, along with her cell phone number and email address. I wanted to contact her, but I knew I had to get Blake’s opinion first.
I headed over to the bed, and gently shook Blake. “Bake, baby, wake up.”
“More? Baby, as much as I’d love to be made love to by you again, I need a little bit longer to regain my strength,” he said, sounding half asleep still. He probably was.
I shook him again. “Not that. Though, that would be nice. This is more important.”
He opened an eye. “What could possible be more important than sex? Aside from sleep that is.”
I smirked. “You didn’t seem to think that sleep was more important than sex when we first arrived in Hawaii, and I wanted to sleep.”
He closed his eye. “That was different. I wasn’t the one who was tired then.”
I rolled my eyes. “Exactly. Anyway, this has to do with adopting a baby.”
He opened both eyes this time. “What about it?”
“My father got a myspace message from this lady who wants to give us her baby,” I explained.
He sat up, and rubbed his eyes. “Huh?”
I took his hand, and tugged it. “Just go to my computer and read the letter she sent my father.”
“This better be good,” he grumbled. “I don’t like being waken from my sleep unless you have your mouth on a certain body part of mine.”
“There will be time for that later,” I said. I bit my lip, and admired his body was he walked towards my laptop, still naked from our lovemaking.
He sat down in the chair, and moved is finger over the mouse to being the screen up. When it appeared, he scrolled up to the beginning of the letter, and began to read.
After a moment, when he had finished reading, he looked up at me. “Do you think this is for real?”
I shrugged. “My father seems to think it is. I think it would be a lot for someone to go through when they know they could easily be caught in a lie.”
Blake looked at the screen again. “I don’t know. You’d be surprised at what fans will do to meet a celebrity they love.”
“I still think we should contact her. We’ll at least know the truth. If she really is for real, I don’t want to miss out on this opportunity just because we thought she was lying,” I said.
He shrugged. “I suppose it’s worth a shot. Besides, if she wants to meet us so badly that she would make up such a good lie, why not give her what she wants, aye?”
I grinned, and sat on his lap. I wrapped my arms around him, and kissed him deeply. “I love you so much! When should we contact her?”
He kissed me back. “I love you too. We can call her tonight. Right now, since I’m up now, I want round two. You can’t just sit in my lap naked and not expect every part of me to wake up.”
I smiled, and nuzzled my nose against his. “I think that can be arranged.” I got up off the chair, and offered my hand to him.
He took it, and then let me lead him to the bed.
I was more than in the mood now that I was excited about the possibility of having a baby sooner than we thought. I just hoped we weren’t being set up for a big disappointment.

That night, Chris called his parents on our home phone, and I called my parents on the cell phone. I had forwarded the letter to my parents so that they were up to date with what was going on.
“I think you definitely should look into this. The poor girl sounds sincere. She is very polite in the letter,” my mom said.
“Yeah, we’re going to call her tonight. I just wanted to make sure I got your opinions on his first,” I told her.
“Well, we say go for it. This could be just the break you need,” my father said.
“So, you think she is telling us the truth?” I asked.
“It sounds like it,” my father answered.
“You’ll never know if you don't look into it,” my mom chimed in.
I smiled. “We’re definitely going to look into it. We both want a baby so badly. I was a little hesitant at first about having a baby, but now I’m sure I want one. Going on a second honeymoon with Chris made me realize how much I love him, and how much I want to start a family with him.”
“So that second honeymoon did you some good, huh?” My father asked, sounding slightly amused.
“Yeah, it did,” I confessed.
“I wouldn’t know about second honeymoons. Your father isn’t that romantic,” my mom said.
“I could take you on one! You never told me you wanted to go on one,” my father protested.
“I shouldn’t have to tell you. It should be obvious. What woman wouldn’t want to go on a second honeymoon? Duh!” my mom scolded.
I laughed. “I’m going to let you two duke this out. I’m going to see if Chris is ready to call Isabella yet.”
“All right. Good luck. You call us when you’re done talking to her and let us know how it went, okay?” my mom asked.
“I will. I promise,” I assured her.
“Good luck, Son. Tell Chris we said hello,” my father said.
Despite the fact that they couldn’t see me, I nodded. “I will. I love you guys.”
“We love you too, honey. Bye,” my mom said.
“Bye,” my dad echoed. “Love you too.”
“Bye,” I said, before clicking off the phone. I tossed the phone to the couch.
Chris was just hanging up the phone, and he tuned to me when he hung it up. He smiled at me. “So, what did your parents say? Mine are all for us talking to Isabella.”
I nodded and grinned. “Mine too. They say we should go for it.”
He wrapped his arms around me, so I wrapped my arms around him in return. We kissed.
When we broke the kiss, I smiled. “So, should we call her now and put it on speaker?”
He nodded, and smiled back at me. “Let’s do it.”
“Now? I thought we were going to call her. Oh well. I’ve never turned down an offer to ‘do it’ with you, and I’m not about to start,” I joked.
He rolled his eyes, but laughed. “You know what I mean.”
“Yeah, yeah,” I said.
We headed to the phone.
Chris turned the speaker phone on, and dialed her number.

“Hello?”
I swallowed hard. This was it. “Hello, is this Isabella?”
“Yes, it is. Who is this?”
I cast a glance at Blake before continuing. He took my hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. I squeezed back. “This is Chris Lewison. My father sent Blake and me the letter you sent him.”
“Really? Wow. It’s such a pleasure to be talking to you right now, Chris! I may call you Chris, right?”
“Of course. So, tell me a little about yourself. How old are you? That is, if you don’t mind telling me. I don’t mean to be rude by asking.”
“Are you kidding me? You’re Chris Lewison. You can ask me anything. I’m twenty-five.”
“So, you’re sure you don’t want your baby? I’m sorry. I have never been in this position before, so I’m not really sure what to say.” I heard Blake snickering, and I figured it was at my comment about never being in that position before. I smirked at him and shook my head.
“Trust me, I completely understand. Don’t apologize. In answer to your question, I wish I could keep my baby. I could really use the company and love now that the last of my family and my fiance are dead. It’s just, I have to be realistic, and I cannot give a baby the care it needs right now. That is why I want to give my baby to you and Blake. I know you two can give it the love and care that it needs.”
If Isabella was telling the truth, I felt really bad for her. I couldn’t imagine having to go through what she must be going through. “You don’t have any friends that can be there for you?”
“I have plenty of friends, and they have been great to me. I have a friend who is living with me right now, and is there for me. Still, none of my friends can help support me financially. I never meat to have a baby. I had forgotten to take my birth control, but figured one time without it wouldn’t hurt. You can figure out the rest. However, I was going to love my baby regardless. With my fiancé Frank’s income and my parent’s help, I would have been okay. But now… Well, you know. I’m not ready to have a baby now. If I had someone to raise it with me, I would be okay, but now… I can’t raise a baby on my own. I know that sounds cold-hearted, but…”
“You’re not being cold hearted at all. I understand. In fact, you’re being a good mother, making sure your baby is well taken care of,” I assured her.
“So, would you guys like to meet me in person?”
I looked at Blake, and he nodded.
“Yes. We can fly out to see you. What day would be good for you?”
“Anytime you want would be fine. I work on weekdays though. I get home at six in the evening every day, so either after six on a weekday or the weekend would suit me best.”
“Well, how about this weekend? Is that too soon?” I cast a glance at Blake, and he gave me a thumbs up sign.
“That sounds perfect! You have my number obviously. You have my cell phone number, address, and email address too, right?”
“Right. I’ll call you to confirm. I guess I better make sure I can get a flight out first.”
“All right. I’ll be waiting for your call.”
“All right. I’ll book the flight tonight and call you tomorrow and tell you how I made out.”
“Sounds good.”
“You have a good night.”
“Thanks. You too.”
“Thanks. Bye.”
“Bye,” she said before hanging up.
I hung up, and then turned to Blake. I saw that he was already on the laptop, searching flights.
I walked up behind him, placed my arms around him, and kissed his cheek. “Find anything?”
“Yep! There is a flight leaving Friday at 4:35 in the afternoon, and arrives in Los Angeles at 7:12.”
“Book it,” I ordered.
So, he did, and five minutes later, we had a flight booked to LA for Friday.
He got out of the chair, and took me in his arms. “I can hardly wait to have a baby with you. I just hope she isn’t pulling our legs. She sounds legit, but we have to be prepared in case she is lying.”
I nodded. “I know. I guess we’ll find out when we get there.”
He nodded towards the bed, and grinned. “Wanna play?” He wriggled his eyebrows up and down.
I laughed, and shook my head. “Man are you insatiable today.”
“Is that a problem?” he asked.
My eyes lowered, and I shook my head. “Not at all. Just let me check my emails and myspace one last time.”
He sighed.
“What? The last time I checked, we got a baby out of it. Imagine what we could get this time,” I joked.
“Yeah, well we have yet to see if Isabella is telling the truth, but all right. See if we can get a unicorn too,” he joked back.
I laughed. “I’ll be quick.”
“You better be,” he said, heading for the bedroom.
I detected a double meaning to his last comment, but didn’t say anything. I was to excited about the possibility of having a new baby so soon.
I quickly went to check my emails and myspace, and then I joined Blake in the bedroom for a little private celebration. I was choosing to believe the best in Isabella, and I refused to think any differently.
