It didn’t take long for them to get everything settled. As Jacob and Bailey’s parents, they knew almost immediately what every little cry and whimper meant. Most of the time, it was that they wanted a bottle. Mike couldn’t believe that people so small could eat so much. But he was always up for feeding them. He loved them so much. And he wanted to show them off to the world. He wanted to take them everywhere with he and Jade. So, when the twins were four months old, in January of the next year, they decided to go back on tour. The twins would be going with them
~*~
The tour was going amazing. At a stop in Michigan, they’d traveled to northern Indiana to visit Jade’s family. It couldn’t last forever, however, and they had to go and do their home show in Los Angeles. Again, Mike was all about showing off his twins to everyone. When he walked out to visit Missy, the advisor of the Music for Relief booth, he took the twins with him. As could be expected, hundreds of people fawned over Jacob and Bailey. And Jade did NOT like that. She didn’t want people touching her children. She was getting annoyed with Mike. Why was he okay with complete strangers touching them? She sighed then, watching Mike at the Music for Relief table. He was smiling at Jake, as they’d nicknamed him. Miss was holding Bailey. Jade was standing on a balcony just above them. She watched a brown haired woman walk up to Mike and Jake. She couldn’t see them woman’s face to know who she was, but she could see Mike’s face. He looked suddenly annoyed and ill at the same time. She watched as he seemed to instinctively hold Jake closer to himself. Her heart started to hammer. Why was Mike so nervous about this woman? He glanced up at her.
“Jade,” he muttered, “Can you come down and take him?” he asked. She nodded and walked down a few stairs, and took Jake from Mike’s arms. He smiled and kissed her and then walked off, looking quite annoyed. Jade looked at the woman, now recognizing her. It was Anna, Mike’s first wife. Jade stared at her for a moment and Anna stared back equally before turning on her heel to follow Mike. Jade watched her walk away and then turned to Missy, smiling.
“I can take her,” she smiled. Missy grinned and handed Bailey to her. She then sighed and looked at Jade.
“I can’t believe this is where you are,” Missy grinned. Jade looked at her, smiling.
“I remember when I first met you in Lexington when you were 19,” Missy laughed, “You were so eager to help with Music for Relief. You didn’t even imagine MEETING Mike, let alone marrying him.” Jade laughed.
“Life has a lot of surprises,” she smiled. Missy grinned. Jade sighed.
“I’d better get backstage,” she said. Missy nodded and hugged her, kissing her cheek.
“See you after the show,” she smiled. Jade grinned and carried the twins backstage. She heard shouting issuing from Mike’s dressing room. She peeked inside after having laid the twins down in her own dressing room. She saw Anna in Mike’s face.
“Those were supposed to be OUR children,” she screamed.
“No, Anna,” Mike spat, “YOU left ME, remember?” He stepped around her. She grabbed his arm.
“I wanted your children,” she exclaimed, “You were gone all the time, Mike!” He chuckled.
“Well, it’s a little too late now, Anna,” he laughed, annoyed, “I’m married now, and I have children with someone else.” Anna sighed.
“I made a horrible mistake, Mike,” she said. He shook his head.
“Please just get out, Anna,” he said quietly, “I have a show to do.” She sighed and turned to walk out. She stared at Jade as she left and then put her head down tearfully, leaving. Jade sighed and then walked into Mike’s room. He was sitting in a chair, bent over with his face in his hands. She didn’t want to upset him more, but she had to talk to him about taking Jake and Bailey out to be touched by everyone in Hell and half of Georgia.
“Mike,” she muttered. He looked up at her, sighing.
“Sorry,” he whispered. She shook her head.
“It’s okay,” she said, “I just need to talk to you.”
“What’s wrong?” he asked. She sighed.
“Mike, you’ve been…” she paused. She didn’t want to upset him. She took a deep breath. “Mike, I don’t want you to take Bailey and Jake out there anymore.” She felt a little better once it was out. Mike looked at her.
“Why?” he asked, not spitefully, but still a little annoyed.
“Because, Mike,” she started, “They’re 4 months old. I don’t want everyone in the venue to be touching them.” He sighed.
“They’re children of rockstars, Jade,” he said, “They’re guaranteed to get attention.” She sighed almost angrily.
“Yes, but Mike, that doesn’t mean that you have to SUBJECT them to it,” she blurted. He chuckled.
“I’m proud of them, Jade,” he said, “I want people to know about them.”
“They can know about them without touching them,” she muttered. A stage hand stuck his head in the door.
“You’ve got 30 minutes, Jade,” he said. Jade nodded at him.
“Let’s just talk about this later,” Mike mumbled, preparing to walk past her.
“No,” Jade spat, “I want to talk about this now.” Mike looked at her.
“Well, I don’t,” he said, walking past her. Jade laughed. She turned to look at his back.
“So is this how things are?” she asked, “Every time I want to talk about something that you don’t agree with, you’re just going to walk away?” He stopped with his back still to her. He took a deep breath and then let it out slowly. He turned.
“This is stupid,” he muttered, “I don’t want to talk about it.” She bit her lip and shook her head.
“You’re really something else, Mike,” she muttered. “What the Hell did Anna want?” Mike stood, taken aback. She’d changed the subject so quickly and drastically that he’d been thrown off balance.
“She just wanted to talk,” he said. Jade nodded.
“That’s not what it looked like to me,” she mumbled, “It looked like she was begging you to come back to her.” Mike sighed loudly, turning his head for a moment, and then looking back at Jade.
“Look, she thinks she made a mistake in leaving me,” he started, “But…” He was cut off.
“A mistake?” Jade muttered, “What the Hell kind of mistake? She didn’t want to be with you anymore.” Mike growled.
“I KNOW, okay?” he said, “It’s not like I’m crawling down some broken road to get back to her.” Jade sighed and remembered back to the night almost a year and a half ago when she’d encountered Mike in his white SUV, crying over Anna. And then she remembered how he’d looked when she’d walked into that very room just minutes before.
“You’re still in love with her, aren’t you?” she asked. Mike looked at her quickly.
“WHAT?!” he half screamed, “No way!” His heart was hammering now. How could she even THINK something like that?
“That’s why you didn’t tell her to get lost in the first place,” she muttered. Mike stepped forward.
“How could you ask me something like that? I love YOU,” he tried to take her hand. She jerked it away.
“Don’t touch me,” she bellowed. He stared at her. “If you want to be with her, go and be with her. Don’t let me hold you back.” His eyes darted back and forth between hers. What the Hell was she saying?
“Jade,” he started, “Do anything you want to me. Beat me. Call me any name that you can think of; but please, PLEASE, don’t say that it’s over.” He was almost in tears. She stared at him for a moment, looking into his eyes. She sighed.
“It’s over,” she muttered, and walked past him. He stood there for a moment. What had just happened? He fell into his chair.

Jade walked into her dressing room. She could hear Bailey crying, and decided that she probably needed a diaper change. She walked to the diaper bag, and dug through it, only finding a few diapers.
“Hmm,” she muttered to herself. She looked at her on tour nanny, Joline.
“Hey, Joline,” she said, “I didn’t think that we’d used so many diapers, but remind me that we need to get more later,” she said. Joline nodded. Jade walked over to pick Bailey up from her bassinette. She glanced into Jake’s bassinette, and saw that he wasn’t in it. She looked at Joline.
“Do you have Jake?” she asked.
“No,” Joline muttered. Jade’s heart wrenched, and her stomach fell to her feet. Jake was gone.
“Oh my God,” she said quietly, putting a hand over her mouth, tears forming in her eyes. Joline’s eyes got wide, and she started to panic.
“GET SECURITY IN HERE NOW!” Jade screamed. Joline ran out the door.

Mike sat in his dressing room. He was just succumbing to the fact that his wife was going to leave him. He wasn’t going to fight it the way that he’d done with Anna. This is what Jade wanted. He sighed, and rested his forehead in his palm. She was going to take away his children as well. He would miss out on so much. He’d never get to see Jacob and Bailey walk, or eat solid food, or talk for the first time. He sighed. He couldn’t just let this happen. He had to talk to Jade. He flew up from his seat and yanked open his dressing room door. He was just about to walk out when a large security guard shoved past him toward Jade’s room, growling something frantically into a walkie-talkie. Mike looked around and saw two more guards rush past. His heart started to hammer. He bolted down the hallway, and shoving a bunch of people out of his way. He burst into Jade’s dressing room and looked around. Within two seconds, he had the wind knocked out of him by a small body running hard into his in a frantic hug.
“Oh God, Mike! Someone took him!” she sobbed into his chest, “Someone took Jacob!”
