Chapter 6
Concert
Yoshiki’s door opened later that night, early the next morning. The other’s were still sleeping but yet again he found himself unable to hold the dreams he had been dreaming. This hotel had a pool on the roof, while he didn’t fancy a swim he did fancy some alone time to his own thoughts like the night before.
He walked down the hall to the elevator and pressed for the top floor. The doors opened and he stepped out looking around he saw that there was a terrace on the other side of the pool. He walked steadily watching as he lights of the city approached him, stepping outside he felt the warm air hit his face. He then walked over to the railing and peered over, the city was still brimming with excitement. Every person seemed to be in their own world, getting ready for the next day, or celebrating some unknown holiday, or just living.
“I’ve always hated cities.”
He jumped and spun around to see Kaiora sitting there. Staring at her he felt his heart beat loudly, breathing loudly he let out a small chuckle “You scared me.”
“Sorry.”
He shook his head “It’s alright, I just wasn’t expecting out here at this time. Especially you” he said honestly.
“Me too.”
Her voice was soft, and when she spoke he felt like he should hang on her every word. The two stood in silence before he walked over and sat beside her “You prefer to be alone?” he asked changing the subject back.
She nodded, “I would have arguments with my friends over living in the city as compared to living in the country” she told him “And I always preferred the country. I liked the peace and quiet. Me and people didn’t really get along, I’d find myself getting claustrophobic standing in a crowd. I just wanted people to leave me alone...sounds kind of selfish.”
Her head turned down and she smiled again.
“It’s not foolish.”
She looked at him and Yoshiki sat back “It’s human to want to be alone sometimes. A lot of people think I live a lonely life in my home in LA. But I like the solitary life when I can get it. The truth is, I work so much and so long that I rarely get to go home. It’s good to go somewhere that belongs to you and not be expected to do, or say anything. Not be expected to work, you can expect what you want of yourself.”
He turned to see her looking at him. She nodded “I know how you feel” she said.
He smiled.
She then got up and he watched as she approached the railing, following her just in case she needed help. He stepped up beside her. She leaned on the railing and for the first time he noticed just how pretty she was. The cloud that had once overshadowed any form of beauty seemed ot be dissipating. And while he could still feel it there, it didn’t scare him as it once had. He’d been around her enough now to begin to see past it and now he saw her beauty.
Her hair was a little tangled, and she was wearing an oversized t-shirt with pajama bottoms but he had to admit that through all that she was quite attractive. Her dark hair contracted her pale skin almost perfectly, her brown eyes were shaped only slightly almond that gave her an exotic look he’d never seen. Her nose was slightly turned up, and her full lips were parted slightly as she breathed.
“It really doesn’t stop does it?”
As her lips moved he pulled himself out of his daydream. “Pardon?” he asked.
“The world” she replied “it keeps turning no matter what. I suppose after the billions of years of existence, countless species growing and dying away, one death doesn’t mean too much to it. No matter what it will keep going. We have no choice but to step forward.”
Knowing how she felt he nodded as he turned to the city “Yeah” he said “it’s strange that even as your world stops, this one keeps going.”
“You look down one day and the next time you look up three months have past and the image in the mirror has completely changed.”
He said nothing. She then turned to him “Yoshiki?”
“Yes?”
“Does...does it get better?”
Knowing what she was asking him, but at the same time not wanting it to be that question he faked confusion “better?”
She nodded “I know that you once lost someone important to you. Your best friend. And I know that because of it you retreated for a year...does it get better? Does the pain lessen as the years go by? Or do you just...learn to live with it?”
Yoshiki turned away from her as the pain of his own past returned. The pain that was still fresh. Should he tell her that?” “Sometimes” he whispered “Sometimes it’s unbearable. Sometimes it’s as fresh as the first day you felt it. But most times, most times I find that I can deal with it” he turned to her to see her shiver.
He placed an arm around her “There will be a time when you can look back and smile at all the memories you have, when you can laugh at them instead of cry. I hope that day comes for you soon” he looked down at her “because the pain I’ve seen you in is a hundred times worse than mine was. And knowing the ain I felt the day hide died and the years that followed after is almost unbearable themselves to think of.”
“Thank-you Yoshiki” she whispered as she lay a head on his shoulder.
Thought he got the feeling that she wasn’t thanking him for the talk he found himself a little distracted. It had been awhile since he’d been this close to a woman, and he found himself quite aware of the heat of her body leaning against him and the arm that she’d placed around his back, the small breaths of air she would take. ‘Stop that’ he told himself ‘She’s just lost her best friend, she doesn’t need some guy 20 years older than her trying to make a move! She’s looking for comfort, not sex!’ he amazed himself even more with that one. Where did the thought of sex come from? Why not think of being in her arms? Why not think of kissing her? Why...sex?
“I...I think we’d better go back inside” he said to her.
She pulled away and looked at him “I’m kind of tired” he lied “And we have to get up early. You should get some sleep too. Not stress yourself out so much.”
She nodded and smiled softly at him “Thank-you, I’ll try not to.”
He turned and lead her back to the elevator. As they traveled back to their rooms he felt his nerves start to pick up. He could still remember how warm she felt, maybe it just surprised him...that may have been it. After all, just a few days ago when he’d met her she was probably the coldest looking person he’d ever met. Her aura didnt’ exactly radiate heat. Maybe the shock of having her be quite warm along with his own loneliness is why his thoughts strayed so much. He suddenly felt himself standing with her in front of her door. She opened the door and slightly turned to him “Thank-you Yoshiki” she said “I really haven’t talked to anyone since that day, amazingly it felt good. I’m glad it was you.”
He nodded “I hope you can get more off your shoulders, and I know everyone here is willing to listen.”
“Goodnight Yoshiki” she wrapped her arms around him and leaned on his chest briefly. He leaned down and repeated the action resting his head on her shoulder for a few moments. As they parted Yoshiki turned his head towards her as she did the same towards him and for a moment their lips grazed one another. Without thinking Yoshiki slightly pressed into her before freezing in shock. Her lips like her body were surprisingly warm and soft. Her eyes were inches away from his as her lips were centimetres, and she looked up at him almost questioningly.
He pulled away quickly “I’m sorry” he said quickly “I didn’t mean...I mean...it was...”
She nodded “It’s okay” she said “No harm, no foul.”
She then turned and walked into her room, closing the door with a soft click! Leaving him standing there in a cloud of confusion.
If there was one thing Yoshiki Hayashi was good at, it was keeping his personal life separate from his business life. He’d lived long enough to train himself to do many things and separating thoughts was just another one of them. But at the same time he knew that once he did go back to his personal life it would be just as exhausting as his professional. Normally it would be relaxing...but after last night he didn’t know how he was going to handle the situation. Plus the thought of ‘lived long enough’ didn’t help. She was 20 years younger than him, and she was in a state of vulnerability...maybe he was blowing this out of proportion. After all, it was an accident. It’s not like he meant to kiss her...if one could call that a kiss. It was just a graze of the lips, it’s not like he forced himself on her, it’s not like they had a full blown makeout session. They talked, that’s it. And besides...friends can kiss.
Gackt and Miyavi practically made out on stage every night, he should know. Kissing was almost a must amongst their friends. Everyone knew that, the girls knew it had to be expected. And she didn’t exactly pull away.
“Yoshiki?”
He looked up at Ronin from the clipboard ‘So much for keeping personal life and business life apart’ he thought to himself as he flipped through the days schedule. “Will we have enough time this morning for the interview with JaME?” he asked.
“It’ll have to be short” Ronin replied “It was double booked, but there is a bit of a larger spot just after the concert where we can put them.”
Yoshiki shook his head “No” he said “They want an interview beforehand not after” he weighed all the possibilities in his head quickly “it’s going to have to be on the way to the hall tonight. We’ve already cancelled the interview twice. I think one more time will only piss them off.”
Ronin stared at his employer. While Yoshiki was known for swearing, he was usually very good at keeping a professional composure. ‘he couldn’t be this stressed out already’ he thought to himself ‘It must be those girls’. But he shook the thought from his head.
Gackt walked up beside Yoshiki “So what do you think? “
“We’ll have to do the interview with JaME just before we get to the hall” Yoshiki replied “make sure this doesn’t happen again Ronin.”
Giving his assistant a look he handed the clipboard to Gackt to look over. Ronin nodded taking in the warning “It won’t happen again.”
As Ronin walked away Gackt turned to Yoshiki ”Even I think that look was uncalled for” he said “What’s going on Yoshi?”
Yoshiki shook his head “Politics in the personal life” he said.
Gackt nodded “I know what you mean.”
‘You couldn’t possibly’ Yoshiki wanted to say ‘You’re not the one lusting after a 23 year old girl’ again he shook his head from the thoughts. “Loosing sleep to?” he asked.
Gackt sighted, “Well, I can’t help but feel like we should be doing more. But at the same time I really don’t know what to do,” she admitted, “I can’t get that first image of her out of my head. I know that she laughed yesterday for the first time in three years. But at the same time her current state says that she could probably fall back into that with the smallest push...”
“I think you’re stressing yourself out too much” the hypocrite said “Live in the now. She’s smiling, she’s laughing, she’s talking. Who knows what she’ll be doing next. I think we should just take it one day at a time. If we fall back to that, then we’ll just take it from another angle. There’s no need to stress right now. Now’s the time for the tour and your ‘dears’ they’re all waiting for us.”
Gackt nodded in agreement and seemed to look a little relieved, “Thanks” he said.
Yoshiki nodded and couldn’t help take a little of what Gackt said to heart. What if she did fall back into her half-dead state? Would they be able to pick her up? Would she want to be pulled up?
He decided those thoughts weren’t needed at this moment. He pushed them to the back of his mind and forced himself to think about other things? “Now about the floor plan” he said changing the subject.
“Would you ever make a move on Yoshiki?”
“Huh?”
“Well?...I mean the guys 20 years older than you...he’s like three years younger than your mom...”
“The guy is hot I don’t know...I mean...if he LOOKED his own age it wouldn’t be so bad. However...he looks like he’s mid 20’s not 40! It’s so confusing...okay how’s this? I wouldn’t make a move on him unless he made a move on me...then I’d be like ‘okay’. But I wouldn’t take it too far. I mean...he’s IS in his 40’s.
But don’t worry, Yoshiki’s a god in Japan. He’s a genius and a sex magnet. He could have any woman he wants. I doubt he’ll even consider me...”
Then why when did their lips touched did he act like...like...why did he press into her then pull back so quickly. She knew that look because she used to love it when they did that. After all, what woman didn’t love the cat and mouse game? But last night....
She sighed to herself. One would think coming out of a comatous-like state after three months they should take it easy. But not her. She just couldn’t get a break, from one drama to the next.
“You overestimate me way too much Creator” she spoke “What do you want from me? Haven’t I given you enough?”
“Talking to yourself again?”
She turned to see Minami standing there. She then turned back to the window “Considering all I’ve given to Creator, you’d think he’d answer me just once.”
Minami sat down beside her “Giving answers would be too easy. Something’s you just have to figure out yourself. Besides, somewhere on the other side of the world a baby’s just being born to a mother who was told she could never have children. I think he’d rather give those kind of answers.”
She gave another soft smile. Minami always had a way of making things seem like they were okay. She always shrunk the size of big situations. And she was glad for that.
“Did you take your pills?” Minami asked.
Kaiora nodded “yeah, Jo told me what I did last time I didn’t take them...and that thought scares me so I think I won’t ignore them.”
“You’re doing much better than then” Minami assured her “It’s been almost a week and your talking and smiling, and laughing. That’s amazing...”
“It’s been a few days for you,” Kaiora replied “But for me it may very well have been a few years.”
Minami cocked her head to the side in confusion. Kaiora turned “My mind moves so slowly. That clock say’s I’ve been sitting here for 10 minutes, but I swear it was three hours. The truth of the matter is I feel like I’m 100 years older than I was. These two days may have been fast for you, but for me they probably couldn’t have gone slower.”
Minami placed her hand on her friend but didn’t say anything. A tear slipped once again from Kaiora’s eyes “Time slowed to a stop three months ago, and since then it’s been crawling. I don’t know when a day won’t feel like a week, but I hope it’s soon. I’m so tired of feeling like this...I almost...” she took a breath “I almost want to forget...do you know what it’s like to want to completely forget your best friend, if only for a second. Just so I can get a moments peace, just so I won’t feel like my heart is breaking every minute that passes by, just so I can close my eyes and not seeing him staring back at me.”
More tears spilled from her eyes and she held back a sob, “Just so I can be normal again.”
Minami leaned on her friend “This is the way.”
Kaiora turned her shocked eyes to her friend “this is the way to morn him. Cry now, cry now so you can laugh later.”
Tears flooded Kaiora’s eyes as relief filled her heart. After all this time, her friend still wanted to be there for her, she wasn’t mad, she wasn’t tired of seeing Kaiora cry, she was still trying to support and help her.
Kaiora leaned on Minami with a sob and allowed the tears to spill from her eyes as Minami placed a comforting hand on her back.
Later that night...
Annett and Kaiora watched as Angel and Minami bounced from one side of the room to another like balls that were being thrown against the wall. Both seemed to be brightly coloured streaks that moved almost too fast for the human eye to comprehend. Accompanying their energetic bodies was the chant “We’re goin to the show! We’re goin to the show! We’re goin to the show!”
Jo slammed the bathroom door open and glared at the girls, “Hey!” she called “Will you shut up! The entire hotel is aware that ‘we’re goin to the show’ so SIT DOWN!”
Jo slammed the door shut. The four friends looked at one another. “Man, she needs to get laid big time” Kaiora joked.
The three looked at their friend, then began laughing loudly. Angel leaned onto one knee as she clutched her stomach “That was classic!”
Kaiora’s laugh wasn’t as vibrant or strong as her friends but she still seemed to be letting herself go. “Yeah...but she seriously does.”
They laughed harder.
Everyone suddenly jumped when the hotel door opened and Miyavi dove in, he was suddenly grabbed by two pairs of hands. “Help me!” he cried clawing at the ground.
Gackt and Ronin suddenly appeared in the doorway and dragged the boy out “I told you not to go in there!” Ronin yelled “What if they were undressed you idiot!”
“We’re all family here!” Miyavi argued.
They pulled him out of the room before Ronin stepped inside “Are we ready to leave ladies?” he asked the group now rolling on the floor (with the exception of Kaiora of course who was sitting laughing lightly).
Again the bathroom door swung open and Jo stepped out “Yes” she replied.
The concert very well may have been the most amazing Kaiora’d ever seen. While still in her depressed state she still felt excitement race through her. Yoshiki on drums, Miyavi and Suzigo on guitars, and Gackt on mike, it was amazing. The show began with a bang and the explosion had yet to cease. The band’s energy was on another level as they fed on one another ,watching them in their element she felt the smile grace her face. She knew why she had fallen in love with them. And if that wasn’t enough, the crowd was going crazy, even those who seemed sceptical in the beginning were cheering and screaming like everyone around them, just enjoying the music.
“I see why you were so excited about the ‘fanservice’ thing” Angel laughed as Miyavi and Gackt locked lips.
Angel cheered “The two hottest guys in Japan making out? This is the BEST CONCERT I’ve ever been to!”
Minami cheered “I’m with you on that! Hey Kaiora are you having fun?”
Kaiora nodded “This is amazing” she smiled “It’s better than I dreamed.”
She stared at Yoshiki as he pounded on the drums “I’ve never seen Yoshiki look so hot!”
“I know what you mean!” Angel agreed “I must may attack him after the show!”
Jo whistled loudly “Man, Sugizo gets hotter with each show.”
The girls screamed as Geisha kicked off and started jumping up and down.
In the next city...
“I read your blogs” Kaiora told her.
Jo turned from the mirror “Oh yeah?” she asked “What did you think of them?”
Kaiora smiled “They were good, if I’d read them back home I think I would have desperately wanted to be here. You portrayed the guys perfectly.”
Annette smiled from the bed. “I’m glad you approve” Jo replied sincerely “I was kind of worried since you and I aren’t working together like usual, that it wouldn’t be what was expected.”
Kaiora shook her head “You don’t need me to show how good you are” she said “You’ve got a talent for writing, this will just show others how they are. Gackt said that JaME was referencing the blog today, complimenting them on getting a freelance journalist.”
Jo blushed.
Annette smiled “Don’t underestimate yourself. It’s an opening door.”
She knew that a few of the girls went back after the show and talked to the boys, but she didn’t know that the magazine had said anything about her blogs. “If you’re lucky maybe you’ll be hired by a magazine,” Kaiora said.
“That would be awesome” Jo replied excitedly “To go around interviewing all these great musicians and celebrities!”
Kaiora sat up as she seemed to realize something “Where’s Minami and Angel?”
Annette raised her magazine again “They went out for a few drinks with Gackt, Sugizo, and Miyavi after the show.”
Kaiora felt a twinge of jealousy. She wished she could go out with her friends, and her old friends. But she knew that she lacked the physical strength to stand in a crowd, even when she’d get up at night and go for walks, she’d find her energy drained within minutes. The night before when she’d met Yoshiki on the terrace she had been attempting to catch her breath for 5 minutes before he’d showed up.
“I wonder where Yoshiki is” Jo sounded Kaiora’s thoughts.
Annette shrugged “I don’t know.”
A soft bang sounded from the hallway and the three turned “That would be the girls staggering back from their ‘night on the town’” Jo said.
Annette jumped up and ran over the door, she then threw open the door and looked as if she were going to welcome the girls back with open arms and a scream. However Jo and Kaiora saw her expression change from excited and fun to shocked and amazed.
“What is it?” Jo asked.
Kaiora was already up and the two peered out the door. Their jaws dropped as they saw Minami leaning against the wall with Miyavi pressed tightly against her. Their lips were locked together and looked as if they had no intention of unlocking soon. Miyavi’s hands had disappeared past Minami’s lower back as she had one hand in his hair, and the other one on his shoulder.
The three girls stood stunned at the sight before them, no one really knowing what to do or say. Had it been any other guy by now Jo and Annette would have ripped them apart and reprimanded. But as they stared they didn’t really know who they should, or could blame. Miyavi...or Minami?
