Ruki swallowed hard again and felt like screaming to the technicians to blackout the stage so he could pull himself together. Finally they did and he quickly spun around, holding the sweatband to the corner of his right eye. Reita stepped over to him and gripped the back of Ruki's neck gently, giving him a little shake and then patting him on the back. Kai, Aoi and Uruha couldn't see him because it was too dark but they all looked in the direction he was probably standing. Ruki glanced up in the darkness and gripped Reita's arm, giving it a firm squeeze - his way of saying 'I'll be alright'. Reita let him go and went back to his place to wait for the next song. Ruki sniffed hard and then breathed out as he told himself to get a grip.

The fans were eagerly watching the blacked-out stage, hoping their favourite singer was all right. Even Lolita-girl and Mika were talking among themselves, as they were concerned for him. But finally the stage lit-up again and Ruki was standing tall and proud on his platform. The fans smiled and cheered as Ruki waved to them, also smiling back at them. He bent over a little with his hands on his hips, giving a little bow in appreciation for making him smile again. It actually embarrassed him a little as he again waved at them to say 'Get outta here'. Suddenly Kai and Uruha began to opening to 'Carry?', which made the audience scream harder. A few seconds into the opening, Ruki got everyone up by chanting 'Jump, Jump' into his mic. After which he led them into head-banging ... of course the girls joined in again.

'Carry' was another song that would never be forgotten easily. Ever since it's release in the 'Disorder' album, it was played in practically every Live they performed. And as usual when Ruki sang 'Carry, Carry', Kai was right there singing along with Ruki. Megumi loved it when Kai sang, because she always thought drummers were always left in the background - but not Kai. She loved how while he sang, his teased hair was wiping around his face from the fan at his back. Ai and Kikyo loved watching Aoi and Uruha dancing around too, even though they didn't actually move to the extended stage. Kira however laughed when Reita got to spin around like he was so often restricted in doing. Of course he could only do it when he wasn't close to the others.

Finally as the song was closing, Ruki was singing the last little verses. When he came to singing 'I love you forever', the girls could have sworn that he pointed in their direction before pointing out of the audience again. Megumi, Ai, Kira and Kikyo again looked at each other - he could have been pointing to Mika again. However Mika was so excited to be hearing 'Carry' again that she was oblivious to her friends looking at each other. Maybe they were just seeing things, so they shrugged and laughed before joining the crowd in clapped and cheering. At least they had gone for a more hyped up song to make-up for the sadness of 'Reila'. They were worried that if Ruki sang anymore depressing songs, he'd just curl up in a heap on the stage and have to cancel the rest of the concert. But seeing he was already jumping around after singing 'Carry' they knew he was going to be just fine. They could only imagine what song was going to be next.

All of the guys were now thinking the same thing - they were just over half way through the concert, but still with plenty more songs to perform. Ruki put mic down on top of Kai's platform so he could quickly take a mouthful of water. Uruha was swapping his guitar back again and while the staff did that, he gently pat a towel over his forehead to wipe the sweat away. Aoi was attracting a few whistles and claps from fans as he slipped his silver jacket from his shoulders to reveal a tight-fitting black singlet underneath. He was obviously getting to hot to wait for the encore. He folded the jacket neatly and threw it to a staff member just on the side-stage. Reita was stretching his arms over his head and twisting his neck around - he was starting to feel a few cramps from playing. Kai set his drumsticks down to also quickly dap a towel over his face. Even though he was in a sleeveless shirt and had a fan on his back, he was still feeling the heat.

The audience were watching every move the guys made while waiting for the next song. Really Aoi was getting the most attention because he was stripping; not that Ai was complaining. She also found it amusing he thought his best feature was his whole body. Kira was laughing at how much of a 'guy' Reita acted. He always looked menacing yet his personality and nature was quite the opposite. Kikyo had her head tilted slightly in thought as she watched Uruha. His hair was styled just like in the 'Regret' video; in other words flatter than normal. She preferred it curled upwards in numerous strands. Mika was actually marvelling at how Ruki could handle the dreadlocks. They were somewhat longer than in the 'Filth in the Beauty' video - tied up they were hanging just below his mid-chest and starting to look really heavy. Megumi was smiling up as she watched Kai talking to a staff-member who was obviously hidden somewhere beside Kai's drum kit. He seemed to laugh at something before sitting up-right and threading both hands through his hair.

The guys were now ready to play the next song. Ruki glanced up at Kai, mic in his left hand and Kai nodded to him. Ruki raised his right arm and Kai began to opening to 'Maximum Impulse' ...

Through the whole song the audience jumped and waved to the beat, not once standing still. Megumi was looking forward to one particular part in the middle of the song when her favourite drummer sang with Ruki. Ever since she first got into the Gazette, when she saw Kai singing during Lives, it really interested her at how he could play and sing while not even looking at his drums. She even wondered why he didn't just use a headpiece microphone so he didn't have to turn around. But there was obviously some good reason so she didn't dwell on it. In any case, the girls loved hearing 'Maximum Impulse' again. Like usual the guys never failed to do the song perfectly. When Ruki had finished singing, all that was left was to follow the other guys as they all swayed from side-to-side along to the music. Even the fans swayed their hands from side-to-side.

The guys seemed to really like playing 'Maximum Impulse' because it was a kind of inspirational song. Much as to say 'feel the energy and make good use of it' basically. The kind of song you'd play to a sports team, as they once joked about when they were hanging around in the practice studio at the PSC building. And to add to the joke, Reita had jumped up and flexed the muscles in his arms while growling. After 'Maximum Impulse' the girls and of course the rest of the audience were feeling really hyped up, and felt like they could listen to it all over again. But they had a feeling they were due for another lighter song - call it fans intuition. The girls were again talking to Lolita-girl and cosplay girl about what songs they liked so far and what they thought would be next.

"It's too hard to call. I really have no clue what they might play next ..." Lolita-girl said trailing off as she thought, "I don't know, maybe Hanakotoba? Or ... hmm ... D.L.N? What do you think Kira?"

"I was thinking possibly Saraba or Ito, from their mini album 'Akuyukai'," Kira said also as she drummed her chin with her fingers and looked thoughtful, "Off the top of my head I can't think of any others. Who knows they may not even play a softer song just yet ..."

Kira trailed off when from the corner of her eye she could see the guys moving around. When she looked up at the stage, the other girls did too and noticed they were now again ready to perform the next song. Ruki was kneeling down behind his platform to get a better look at the set-list. Five more songs before they cleared the stage - and it was very likely the fans knew there would be an encore. At least they got to change shirts before the encore - Aoi was already halfway there. Ruki stood up again and gripped the microphone in both hands on its stand. Kai shifted in his seat and began the opening to 'Saraba'. Kira was right ...

When the opening of 'Saraba' was heard, the fans instantly perked up and just stood listening. They didn't actually cheer excited - for the song 'Saraba' was a kind of 'Anti War' theme, as Ruki sings towards the end. The girls all linked arms, swayed along to the music and sang with Ruki. When it came to him singing the 'An anti war song' section, the fans raised their arms and swayed them back and forth. Another song that really got through to them - and it was a good feeling that bands were actually trying to get the message across. The girls also dropped their linked arms and followed the crowd. They too hated hearing about wars so they loved how Ruki actually wrote a song with the others about the issue. It showed he really noticed what was going on in the world.

As the song was coming to an end and Ruki was speaking the last part of the song, he brought one hand up from gripping the microphone to place in a salute to his forehead. Surprisingly some of the fans in the first few rows did the same thing. On his last word of 'Saraba ...' he dropped both hands and backed away from the mic-stand. He bowed his head in respect as the fans did too. Even the girls bowed - something they had never done during a Gazette concert, or even seen Ruki do it for that matter. Mika was really moved by how much it touched Ruki - she knew now how sensitive he could be.

NOTES:
1) 'Ruki & Kai rap session': Those who remember the Nameless Liberty version of Maximum Impulse will remember the part of the song where Kai screams/sings into his mic along with Ruki
2) 'Saraba': This song is supposedly about Anit-War campaign, hense the 'An Anti War song' line in the lyrics
