Rebecca walked up to Ryan and Cat’s door hand in hand with Patrick. They had already spent the day in celebration, as she had spent most of the afternoon at the studio with the boys, and they were now going over to have a nice dinner with Ryan and Cat. They had spent the last night with Travie, had plans for the next night with Brendon and Spencer, not to mention Becca’s shopping excursion plans with Kirsten from work as well. All because today was Becca’s 21st birthday.
These mountains of plans left one problem for the newlywed couple, they were left with no real time to have their own celebrations. But neither really seemed to care much about that. They were both surrounded by family and friends who might as well be family, so they were happy.
Becca’s mom had sent a package with her gift, but they had yet to open it, so it still sat on their kitchen table. Becca had gotten the card the previous day and they had both been curious as to what her mother had meant by not opening the gift until they could sit down in a calm, private moment together. But it was looking like things for them weren’t going to be calm or private for them for a few days at least.
“You’re thinking about your mom’s gift, aren’t you?”
Becca jumped, a little startled that Patrick seemed to know almost precisely what she was thinking. It was almost creepy to think of how he seemed to be able to do that with her.
“You know, that’s really kinda creepy when you do that. So what gave it away this time?”
“You were muttering and I overheard you. Nothing mystical or insightful this time.”
Becca shook her head laughing as they reached the door and Patrick pushed the doorbell. He wrapped his arms loosely around her waist in a hug before the door was opened, revealing Cat wearing a huge grin before throwing her arms around first Becca then Patrick.
“Come on in, just excuse our mess. Ryan has been turning the entire house upside down and inside out looking for his lyrics notebooks all day. I haven’t been able to get the slightest help out of him all day long. I think a child might just be easier than him sometimes.”
Patrick covered his mouth to stifle the laughter threatening to bubble up out of him. Although Becca didn’t even bother doing that, she just burst out laughing, ignoring the scowl on Cat’s face as she did so.
“Don’t feel bad, Cat. Besides, at least you haven’t been around when Patrick is writing. He gets in this daze where he doesn’t realize anything else is going on. Aside from the music, of course. It’s really quite amusing to see, to be honest.” Becca grinned as she teased Patrick, who merely shook his head with a smile, his arm still wrapped around Becca’s waist.
“And the boys think we don’t know what kind of things go into their ‘musical genius’. We have creative outlets just as much as them. Sure ours aren’t exactly the same, but they’re still creative points of interest.” Cat seemed as if she were figuratively sticking her tongue out at the boys with her comments.
“Kitten, stop blocking the door and tell Patrick and Becca to come in and sit down. You can torment us males once everyone is inside and comfortable.” Ryan smirked as he walked up behind Cat before wrapping an arm around her waist and kissing her on the neck. “Come on in guys. Cat, aren’t you supposed to check on the casserole? I don’t think it cooks itself.”
Cat jumped and rushed off towards the kitchen. “Right. Sorry guys. I’ll be right back. This is my first time cooking with tofu. So it better be good, Becca. I hold you completely responsible for this!”
Becca laughed as she walked into the familiar living room and sat down on the couch, unsure how she should react to Cat attempting to cook with tofu, just for Becca’s birthday.
“Don’t worry about it. Besides, I checked back behind her to make sure that she wasn’t completely messing it up. So it shouldn’t be too bad. Although I do have to admit, the tofu was a bit scary looking. So I’m not too sure how it’s going to taste. You’re the expert on that one, Becca.” Ryan grinned as he sat back down at the small desk in the corner of the living room where there was a stack of notebooks all in various states of misuse.
Becca shook her head at all the teasing that she was getting for being vegetarian, which Cat found insanely amusing as fodder for joking and teasing. But of course Cat found a lot of things entertaining. That was part of her appeal, perhaps. Patrick walked into the living room and headed over to where Ryan was sitting with the stack of notebooks before starting to flip through them with him. Of course the two boys would get straight to music if one of them was already absorbed with something. So Becca made her way back to the kitchen to chat with Cat.
In the kitchen, Becca barely held back a fit of laughter at the expression on Cat’s face while trying to determine if the tofu casserole was done or still needed to be cooked more. Becca walked over to stand behind Cat, being careful to keep from alerting her friend of her presence. After getting a quick look at the casserole, Becca grinned to herself before grabbing Cat’s shoulders. “Looks good to me.”
Cat squealed at the shock and whirled around, about to hit Becca before she realized that it was her best friend who had startled her. And when she realized it was Becca, Cat frowned before hitting Becca on the arm. “Don’t you ever do that to me again, Rebecca Stump! Honestly, you could have given me a heartattack or something. Gah. And really, the casserole looks good?”
Becca was still laughing from the shock on Cat’s face when she asked about the casserole that it took her a moment to realize what Cat had asked. And then when she did, Becca could only nod from laughing so hard. Cat’s resulting glare only made Becca laugh harder, which of course didn’t help matters any.
“Yeah, Cat. The casserole only needs about fifteen more minutes. And then we can eat. Unless you’re waiting to cook some meat for you guys, of course. Then you’ll have to do that timing yourself. Carnivore.”
Becca was able to calm down long enough to answer Cat in a semi-coherently manner before bursting into a fit of giggles again. She had to lean on the counter to keep from collapsing into the floor she was laughing so hard. Cat merely rolled her eyes at Becca’s near hysterics before shaking her head.
“Honestly Becca. And besides, I figured since it was your birthday celebration thing that we’d do things your way and just eat veggie stuff. Although I might have to warn you – I’m not making any promises that I won’t grab a turkey sandwich after you leave.” Cat pointed the knife she had in her hand at Becca with a playful scowl, intending to be intimidating. But Becca merely started to laugh even harder.
Finally Becca calmed down and stood clutching her side. “You’re trying to kill me, Cat. Stop being funny for a little bit, please? I just need a little while to catch my breath.” She playfully grinned at Cat, sure that she would be getting something in retaliation. And sure enough, Cat didn’t disappoint.
“Oh, of course, almighty birthday patron. Whatever else should I do to better serve you on this day of reverence and worship to you for having been born into this world?” Cat playfully bowed and acted like she was a servant groveling for approval and favor from their master.
This had the opposite reaction that Cat had been supposedly intending, and Becca started to laugh again, this time actually falling into the floor from laughter. This caused Cat to crack up and soon enough both of them were in such a state of hysterics that when the boys came to check on the state of the food, they merely shook their heads at the sight of the two girls in the floor laughing before heading back into the living room to work muttering under their breath about the two girls and insanity being catching.

A/N #2: Okay so I just want to *cough*blame*cough* thank the new Fall Out Boy album, Folie a Deux for the insane spurts of plot bunny. Yep, I get inspiration from the actual boys themselves - and their insane musical talents.
A/N #3: Also - just a random note that I figured out from being easily distracted and highly amused by simple things - the age difference between Patrick and Becca is the same as my boyfriend and I. To think of this makes me feel a little overwhelmed at the success and such of the actual band guys - now that's a seed of jealousy to me. Also I feel a little funny knowing some of the stuff that's going to happen in the story with Becca. *evil giggles*
A/N #4: In case you're curious - Becca's birthday is January 31st. It's just a random date that Cat and I came up with. - not either of our actual birthdays or anyone we know / have connections with -
A/N #5: Okay no more random author notes - but for your patience with these useless bits of trivia - I'll post another chapter that I had already finished! XD *hugs*
