Awakening(Pt2)
Joe sat on the beach staring out at the dark water. The white capped waves as they crashed and rolled over his feet. His thoughts drifted to his children, the ones that the doctors said that he would never have.
Amber was like a ray of sunshine, always happy, wanting to please everyone around her. Asking thousands of questions whenever they would pull into another city while on the road touring. Then there was little Thomas Richard, full of energy, he hardly ever slowed down. During sound check he would sit on Rick’s lap and bang on the drums and have every one laughing.
Then there was Rebecca, the beautiful woman he loved with ever fiber in his body. She was the pillar in his life, his soul mate or so he liked to think and now his wife. She was there for him through the turbulent years when Sav disappeared and was now waiting for his return from this new chapter in his life. 'Despite my misgivings of being a vampire, I have a bright future...or as bright as it can be in the dark...with Rebecca and our children. But, do I want to go through that life without Sav?'
Thoughts of Sav crept into his mind and the day they were alone for the first time. The lightness in which his fingers trailed all over him, the heat of his lips…..Joe quickly shook his mind of those memories. He didn’t want to think about him, it caused even more hurt for what he did.
“I miss and love all of you.” Joe whispered into the wind and let the tears fall freely down his cheeks as he watched the sky brighten over the water.
“Joe, what are you doing?” Came a voice beside him.
He snapped his head around and stared up at him. Feeling his anger rise at the mere sight of him, Joe turned away and looked back out over the water.
Sav glanced at the horizon, “You have to go in before the sun gets any higher.” ”I’m not going in. I’m going to sit here and watch the sun rise.” ”What are you talking about?” ”I just might let the sun turn me to ashes, to be washed away by the waves.”
“I can’t let you do that Joe.” Sav told him.
“What different does it make to you? You don’t care about me remember. You made your bed, now go sleep in it and leave me alone.”
“I can understand you’re angry at….”
“Angry!” Joe shouted as he whipped his head around to glare up at him. “You have no idea how I feel Sav.”
“Then come inside and tell me, yell at the top of your lungs if you want to.”
“No, I’m going to stay here now, so you can watch.” Joe retorted. “Death would be better than the pain and hurt you caused me. No go away and let me die in what little peace I have left.”
Sav glanced at the horizon and knew that time was running out. He leaned over and grabbed Joe under his arm. “Come on get up, I won’t let you do this.”
Joe jerked his arm away from him. “Leave me alone!”
Sav reached for him again and Joe scooted away.
“Goddamnit Joe. I won’t let you do this, now get up before I drag you.”
Joe glared at him and made no move to get up. ”Fine.” Sav said and reached down, grabbed his foot to start dragging him.
“Let go!” Joe yelled and dug his other heel into the sand.
Sav kicked it and pulled harder.
Joe was fighting to get Sav to release his foot, trying to kick him with the other and yanking the one he held tightly.
“Let go of me!” Joe yelled.
Sav stopped and glared at him. “Then get the fuck up.”
“Fuck you.” Joe growled and spun around to start crawling back towards the water.
Sav caught him and wrapped his arms around his waist and lifted him. Joe struggled against his grip as Sav flew to the house and shoved him inside the door, slamming it closed behind him. Joe turned on him and punched him in the face, then came at him before he could regain his balance to slam him into the wall.
“Why did you do that?” Joe said between clenched teeth.
“I can’t let you let you kill yourself.”
“Why do you care? You got what you wanted.”
“I do care.”
“That’s a lie, just like everything else. You destroyed everything, me, the band, and our lives. Rebecca, how do you think she will feel when she finds out how you deceived us all or was she part of the game to?”
Sav only nodded his head.
“You just threw it all away in a blink of an eye to satisfy your own selfish needs.”
“I had to.”
“And killed me at the same time, is that what you wanted?”
Sav reached up and lightly ran his fingers down his face. “I never mean to hurt you, please believe me when I say that.” His finger continued across his lips. “I’ve never loved anyone more than you, Joe.” Sav never wavered his eyes from the green that stared back at him, hoping beyond hope that he would see that he spoke the truth.
“If you did, you would have never done this to me.” Joe’s voice broke when he felt Sav in his mind and felt his regret and sorrow about everything.
“Nick was never going to let us be together like we wanted. He would find ways to keep us apart. We were so close, but yet so far away.”
“That’s where you’re wrong Richard.” Nick said from the shadows.
Joe saw the fear creep into his eyes as Nick came closer and stood behind him. Joe moved away and sank into the chair.
“I wouldn’t have done anything to keep you and Joe apart. Did I ever stop you from going to him before, spending days and nights together?”
“How long would that have lasted Nick, before you grew tired of me spending every possible moment with him. A day, a month, how long before you tore us apart in your own sick twisted way? That’s why I did it, to be free of you.”
Nick reached up and gently held his chin. “You had no reason to do it that way. Did I not show you the up most respect and love over the past year.”
“Yes, but you still would have torn us apart in the end.”
“You are wrong again.” Nick said softly. “Look at him Richard. For someone that claims to love him as you say you do, I don’t see the same person anymore, the one that was there before you came down here. Do you see him?”
“No.” Sav whispered still looking at Joe.
“So in light of what you did, however hurtful it was, to myself and Joe. I’m not going to punish you. You’re going to do that on your own.”
“You’re not going to beat me within an inch of my life?” Sav questioned.
“No, instead you’re going to take care of him, if he’ll let you” Nick suddenly turned to Joe. “Perhaps you can give him a little taste of your blood, to show him how you feel.” Nick turned back to Sav and held his eyes. “To see and feel everything I did when I tasted your blood. Maybe you’ll see just how much you hurt him and receive some of your own.”
Sav looked over at Joe and he just glared back.
“Is that agreeable with you Joseph?” Nick asked.
“Not the tasting part.”
“Splendid.” Nick smiled at both of them. “Can’t say I blame him, I wouldn’t either.” he turned and was about to leave the room when he stopped and glanced at Sav. “Oh and Richard don’t try to leave again, it’s not advisable. Joe wants nothing more than to rip your throat out.”
“You’re leaving?” Joe asked suddenly and stood to face Nick.
“I’ll just be down the hall in my room.” Nick told him. “It’s been a long night for you. Maybe you should try and get some sleep.” he gave him a soft smile and took his leave.
“You’re asking him to stay?” Sav hissed in disbelieve.
Joe spun on him. “Go to hell Sav.” he spun on his heels and left the room.
Sav was by himself now and trapped in this house with them. Making up his mind a short time later he went to Joe’s room and threw open the door. He lay on the bed with his back toward him. Joe didn’t need to look to see who it was.
“Was this a trap Joe, to get me back here?”
“Get out.”
“Was it?” Sav asked sharply.
"No. You read what you wanted to in my mind. You made yourself believe that I was going to kill myself."
Sav went over to the bed and grabbed is shoulder to turn him over, but he jerked away from him. “Joe…you implied that.”
Joe finally turned over to stare up at him, the anger slowly fading from his tired eyes, “Just like you implied you would never leave me. Now leave me alone.”
Sav was going to try again, but Nick grabbed him around the throat with his arm. “I believe he asked you to leave twice.”
Sav stiffened as Nick pressed is body to his. Joe turned over and glanced at Sav then at Nick. “I don't care what you do to him anymore.”
Nick pulled him from the room. Joe heard his door close and before long soft thumps or something breaking was coming from Nick’s room. Joe pulled his pillow over his head when Sav screams of pain reached his ears as Nick forced himself on him. It went on like that for most of the day and Joe tried to block it out.
Late in the afternoon, Joe felt his bed move and opened his eyes to see Sav lying there looking back at him. The cuts and bruises still evident on his face and several bit marks on his neck and along his shoulder. Joe could see him shaking from what Nick did to him.
“You deserved every ounce of pain and hurt that Nick beat into you.” Joe said and turned away from him. He took a deep breath and tried to go back to sleep, but with Sav lying so close, sleep was a long time in coming.
