Disclaimer: This story is a work of fiction. I do not profit monetarily from this work. I don't know Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. |
I just wanted Kelly and Carrie to be on an even playing field when things start to develop between them, so I'm happy you guys liked the cute things that happened on the date.
And about the last fic, it was my first Kelly/Carrie pairing, I kinda had to get a feeling for them. I was also in the middle of a semester and I knew I wouldn't have time to come up with more ideas for the story, so I thought I'd end it instead of having it hang around not updated forever lol.
Ch 7
Carrie smiled gratefully at the drink Matt held out to her as she stepped out of the booth. “Hit on any techs while I’ve been recording? You remember what happened the last time you did that, don’t you?” She took the offered drink from him while she giggled at her own joke since she knew Matt preferred that to her thanking him. Matt might be her assistant, but they were friends first. She never asked him to bring her tea; Matt did it on his own whenever she was in the studio. Carrie took a seat next to her friend and settled in for her short break from recording.
Matt chuckled at Carrie’s quick tease, but he knew he had her beat this time. “Kelly called.” He grinned when Carrie raised her eyebrows at him; it meant that she wanted to know if he had answered. “Why didn’t you tell me that you had such a good time on your date?” Matt hadn’t talked to Kelly; he was just using the call to bring up the date because Carrie hadn’t mentioned how it had gone. “So what happened that has Kelly calling you in such a good mood?“
Carrie rolled her eyes because she knew Matt couldn’t have really talked to Kelly. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” Off the surprised look on Matt’s face, Carrie continued her joke. “I know about those movies you watch.” Carrie smirked through the twinge of guilt she felt. She still disliked that their misunderstanding had briefly hurt Kelly. She was glad Kelly had called though since the date had been days ago and she hadn’t heard from the other girl.
“Nice.” Matt nodded his head, even though he could feel the heat from the blush on his cheeks. He thought about prolonging the joke, but there were some people around that might not get that they were joking. “I didn’t answer the phone, so you should probably call her back.” Matt chuckled as the producer and a few others quietly laughed at him. He didn’t mind if they laughed as long as they knew he and Carrie were teasing each other. “Here.”
Carrie sipped her tea while Matt dug through his pockets for her phone. She laughingly agreed when one of the techs joined in on the joke and said that they would take their time so that she would have time to call her ‘girlfriend’. She set down her tea when Matt handed over her phone, and then she looked through her missed calls to see if Matt had forgotten about anyone because he had wanted to joke around. Kelly was the only missed call, so she dialed Kelly’s number. She hoped Kelly wanted to hang out; she had a feeling Kelly would get along well with Matt.
Ashley stared at the screen as the phone rang. She couldn’t believe that Carrie had called back, although her shock was replaced by her anger for the blonde. She accepted the call and waited for Carrie to speak. Ashley had taken Kelly’s phone from the charger and tried to call Carrie while her friend was busy with work. She had wanted to tell Carrie what she thought about the other girl leading Kelly on, but Carrie hadn’t answered, and that had made her even angrier.
“Hey, I just saw that you called. I’m sorry. I was recording, but we’re taking a break now. What’s going on?” Carrie lightly hit Matt for the silly faces he made at her. It was just weird of him to pretend to aw over what she had said.
Ashley debated if she should hang up the phone or not. She had been returning the phone to the charger when Carrie had called. “It’s not Kelly.” Ashley left her friend’s room and went back to her room. Chances were Kelly wouldn’t find out about the call. “It’s Ashley. I just wanted to tell you that I think you’re horrible for leading Kelly on, and I don’t want you to talk to her. Kelly is too nice to say all this herself, but I’m not. I think what you did was cruel and you hurt her feelings.”
Carrie was too stunned to speak. She had thought Kelly was okay with them being friends, but she was wrong. She couldn’t believe that she had hurt Kelly so much that the other girl would make Ashley call to tell her. Kelly had seemed fine at the end of their night out. “I thought she- that’s not what she said.” Carrie quickly got up and walked out of the room so no one could overhear the conversation. “We apologized to each other. Why would she say she was sorry if she didn’t want to be friends with me?” Carrie didn’t understand what was going on, though she hoped Ashley would tell her.
Ashley frowned as she tried to figure out what Carrie meant that Kelly had apologized. Kelly hadn’t mentioned anything of the sort, even though she knew it was possible. “Because she wanted to give you what you wanted? What does it matter? You are the one who gets out of this unscathed while Kelly gets to feel like crap. I listened to her when she said that you weren’t a bitch and that you had been stressed when you first turned her down. You know what she said to me? She said I should try to forgive you because I had seen how confused and emotional she was when she first came out, that you were going through the same thing. So, I was a good best friend, I helped her get ready for your, date, because it’s the first one she has gone out on in months. I stayed awake so that we could talk when she got home, and you know what happened?”
Carrie didn’t think Ashley really wanted an answer, so she just stared at the floor. She didn’t think it was right that Ashley was calling her names, but she felt bad for the things Ashley had said about Kelly. When Ashley angrily said her name, Carrie answered the question quietly. “She told you that it was all a misunderstanding?” Carrie wasn’t sure that she wanted to know what had happened after Kelly had gotten home. She had thought the night had ended well. She had tried so hard to avoid hurting Kelly’s feelings.
“No.” Ashley almost couldn’t believe the other girl’s words, but then she remembered that it was Carrie on the phone. “She was upset and cried. Your little ‘misunderstanding’ hurt her. It wasn’t bad enough that you got upset with her when she first invited you to the party, or that you went out with her and humiliated her in a restaurant full of people. But you had to say that you want to be friends with her, so that none of this comes back on you if it gets out to the public. Did it ever occur to you that she doesn’t want to be just friends with you? For whatever reason, even though I sure as hell don’t understand why, she’s going to be your friend, though I sincerely believe you’ll stop calling once you think enough time has gone by. I don’t care if you’re straight or gay, what you did to Kelly was the epitome of bitchiness.” Ashley had a lot more to say, but she heard a noise behind her and turned around to see Kelly standing in her doorway.
Carrie started to deny that she was trying to do damage control incase anything was made public, but the line went dead before she could get more than five words out of her mouth. Carrie hung up her phone and continued to stare at nothing as Ashley’s words repeated through her head. She had thought everything was okay, but maybe Ashley was right. Maybe that was why Kelly hadn’t called her since the night of the date. Carrie absently wandered back into the booth, even though the things that Ashley said still weighed on her mind.
Matt had known something was up when Carrie left the room, though now that she had come back, he could see that she was upset. He wordlessly watched as Carrie took charge of the room and started to ask what all had to be done so that they could start on the next song. Matt wanted to ask about the phone call, and the date, but he knew that he had to wait until Carrie was away from the studio. His friend wouldn’t answer anything once she had decided to direct all her attention and energy on the business at hand. Matt shook his head and hoped that none of the new people in the studio would mistake Carrie’s focus as rudeness.
****
Kelly unwaveringly stared at her best friend as Ashley shut her phone without any warning to Carrie. She had come up to see if Ashley wanted to go out, though neither of them was going out anywhere now. She wanted to know what else Ashley had said to Carrie, and why her friend had her phone, but she was pretty sure whatever came out of Ashley’s mouth would piss her off even more. Kelly waited for Ashley to speak because she knew the first words out of her mouth would start a fight, and at the moment, Kelly wasn’t exactly opposed to the idea.
Ashley searched Kelly’s face for any indication as to what her friend felt currently, besides anger. She didn’t have to look to see that Kelly was angry. “You wouldn’t have said it. I know I shouldn’t have taken your phone and called her, but what she did was way worse than what I did.” Ashley walked towards Kelly, but she stopped when Kelly held out a hand for the phone. “No, she needs to think about what I said. I can’t stop you from calling from another phone, but you need to-"
“I can’t believe you right now. What gives you the right to take my phone and call Carrie? I told you she didn’t do anything. I told you to leave the subject alone, several times.” Kelly shook her head incredulously and let her hand fall down to her side when Ashley didn’t move. Kelly stalked over to Ashley and took her phone from the other girl. “It’s none of your business if I call Carrie or not. Also, it’s none of your business if I am friends with her. Grow up.” She turned around and walked away before she lost her temper completely because of Ashley’s attitude.
Ashley followed Kelly and stopped the other girl before they reached the stairs. She had expected anger, but she hadn’t thought that Kelly would say that she was interfering. “It is my business because you’re my best friend. Friends look out for each other. Everything Carrie has done has hurt you, but you’re angry with me?” Ashley blocked the staircase so Kelly couldn’t walk away. “All I did was call the girl so that Carrie would see what she had done. Do you really think that she considered you? Kelly, she went out with you so that none of this could hurt her.”
Kelly tried to go around Ashley, but her friend wouldn’t let her pass. She rubbed her forehead and tried to think of what to do to end the confrontation. Nothing she had said previously about Carrie had changed Ashley’s mind, and she was frustrated; although, she didn’t want to give into those feelings and have Jason become a part of the fight because she yelled at Ashley. “I do think she considered me. I want to be friends with her. So, you just need to back off and deal in whatever way it takes for you to get over this. I don’t need you to tear people down because you don’t like how they treat me. I’m an adult. If I wanted my mother, I would call her.”
Ashley crossed her arms and raised her eyebrows at Kelly’s description of her behavior. “Your mom would agree with me. She would say-"
Kelly interrupted Ashley as she tried to pass by her friend again. “She wouldn’t have stolen my phone!” Kelly almost wished she had shouted the words when Ashley easily rebuffed her effort to get to the stairs. “She wouldn’t have told Carrie that I wanted to be more than friends with her. What else did you say to make me sound like some kind of loser that needed her friends to do her dirty work?” Kelly gave up her attempts to get around Ashley and opened her phone. “Why don’t I ask? I’m sure Carrie would be willing to tell me just what my best friend said about me.”
Ashley narrowed her eyes, visually daring Kelly to call Carrie. It hit her a second later that Kelly was angry enough to call, so she reached out and shut the phone before Kelly could dial. “I’ll tell you what I told her, just come back with me to my room.” She didn’t want to fight, and after what Kelly had said, she thought they had more important things to talk about other than Carrie. Ashley moved forward and tried to guide Kelly with her hand, but Kelly backed out of the way. “Kelly, come on!”
Kelly wouldn’t have backed down before, and she definitely wouldn’t do so now that Ashley had raised her voice. She just stared at Ashley and waited. She had avoided fighting with Ashley, but maybe they needed to fight so that the other girl would let go of the Carrie issue. She didn’t want Ashley going behind her back and telling people off for hurting her. Kelly didn’t need another person telling her what to do, even if Ashley thought that it was the right thing.
Ashley sighed and let her arms fall to her sides, though she did move back so that Kelly couldn’t get past her and to the stairs. “I told her exactly what she did. She gave this excuse about trying not to hurt you, so I told her that she had hurt you. I told her about what happened when you came home from the date, how you cried because of how the night had gone.” Ashley stopped for a moment when she saw Kelly stiffen. The glare Kelly directed at her though made her finish. “I told her how you had stuck up for her, told me that she had to be confused and emotional because she was trying to deal with being gay, but really she had been lying the whole time to cover her own ass. I also told her that I thought she was a bitch because she led you on; that it didn’t matter what her reasoning had been, she had hurt you and you didn’t need that shit on the first date you had been out on in months-"
“How could you say that!” Kelly turned away from Ashley so that she wouldn’t yell again. “I can’t believe you told her all that. How could you tell her that kind of stuff about me?” She wanted to call Carrie and try to smooth over the things Ashley had said, and deny the crap out of Ashley’s more personal claims, though she didn’t see how she could call Carrie. Ashley had told Carrie some very personal things. “Why didn’t you just tell her that you think I can’t get a girl to save my life while you were at it. That’s what this is about isn’t it?”
"What are you talking about?” Ashley touched Kelly’s shoulder and stepped to the side, so that she could see her friend. She threw her hands up in the air when Kelly shrugged away and faced her. “I don’t think that about you. I think that you’re setting yourself up to be miserable if you become friends with Carrie.” Ashley had always supported Kelly since the other girl had come out to them. She had never once said that she thought Kelly couldn’t get a girl. “Where is this coming from?”
Kelly took a step closer to Ashley and stared into the other girl’s eyes. “You called Carrie because you think I’m trying to avoid dating. I’m not!” She didn’t care if Jason heard them or not, she was tired of Ashley’s little comments. Kelly had a few things she wanted to say to Jason anyway. She was sick of how her friend would say that she needed to go talk to a girl, or how she should stop talking with only couples at her parties. “It’s why you come to my parties and why you make your damn comments about my dating life. Poor, little, Kelly is too hurt and afraid to ask a girl out. Who is so hurt that she can’t handle one girl turning her down. Well I can, and I’m going to be her friend too.” Kelly quit when Ashley’s expression changed to one of hurt, but she didn’t apologize.
Ashley ignored the sound of Jason’s yells. She wanted to shout back that they weren’t all right; that Kelly was mad at her for being a good friend. She didn’t get how Kelly could want to be friends with Carrie either, not after how happy Kelly had been to get ready for the date, or the way Kelly had always defended Carrie. “Kelly, I help you with the parties because I’m your friend and I want to support you. Yeah, I’ve made jokes about how you should talk to single girls, but you know,” Ashley sighed when Kelly scoffed at her and started to walk away. “Forget that you’re mad at me for a second, forget everything that Carrie said or did. How can you be her friend when you like her? What are you going to do, hang around a girl you can’t have?”
“I can be her friend.” Kelly stopped and looked darkly at Ashley for the change in topic. “Just because she isn’t a lesbian, doesn’t mean that I can’t be friends with her.” Kelly shook her head when Ashley stared at her incredulously. “You’re making it out to be like I was in love with her or something. I wasn’t! It was one date. Ashley, why can’t you get it through your head that I’m happy being friends with her? I thought she was cool before I thought she was a lesbian, so nothing’s changed. Yes, I asked her out when I thought that she liked girls, but she doesn’t, so…” Kelly really didn’t know where she was going with her words, but she knew that she was right.
Ashley cautiously took a step towards Kelly; and when Kelly didn’t make any moves to turn away, she walked so that she was a couple feet from the other girl. She didn’t like that Kelly wanted to be friends with Carrie because it was clear that Kelly wanted to go out with Carrie. She didn’t want to see Kelly pine for Carrie. Kelly had been happier recently, and she thought that spending time with Carrie would hurt Kelly; it already had. “You really want to be friends with her, even though you know you don’t have a chance?” When Kelly glared at her harder, Ashley took a step back. “I’m not trying to anger you. I just don’t get it, Kelly. You’re not going to go out with anyone else because you like Carrie, and she said she’s straight. Why would,” Ashley quit when a new thought crossed her mind. Kelly was the one who had thought Carrie was a lesbian and had gone out on a date with the girl. Why hadn’t Kelly been able to see that Carrie wasn’t into her? “How did you not know that she was straight? You talked to her for hours at the party.”
“Nice. That’s real nice, Ash!” Kelly brushed by her friend and walked towards the stairs. It was easier this time since Ashley was just staring at her. “I made a mistake okay! You’ve hit on gay men!” Kelly stopped yelling when Jason shouted that he was coming upstairs to check on them. “Great, now look at what you did.” As she reached the top of the stairs, Kelly cursed when Ashley grabbed her elbow. “We will talk about this later, when Jason isn’t around.” Kelly tried to jerk herself free from Ashley, but her friend wouldn’t let go. When Kelly saw Jason, she held still.
“Either Carrie is really fucking gay and doesn’t know it, or you were playing it safe.” Ashley released her hold on Kelly before she bruised the other girl. She watched as Kelly undoubtedly glared at her for the safe comment. “Don’t even say that you think I don’t believe in you. I do. It’s why I help you with your parties and tell you that you should talk to more single girls. You’re never going to find someone that you want to be with if you don’t try, Kelly. And I mean really try, not hide behind your friends or play hostess at your own party.” Ashley wasn’t surprised when Kelly started down the stairs without saying a word. She watched as Kelly went right to Jason and hugged him. Ashley had wanted Carrie to stay away before, and at the moment she was really glad that she had told the other girl to leave Kelly alone. She might have hesitated when Carrie had first returned the call, but she was sure she had made the right decision.
Jason looked up at the top of the staircase, at Ashley, as he hugged Kelly. He wanted to know more about the cause of the argument; he wasn’t sure how gay men figured into Kelly making some mistake. He put his arm around Kelly’s shoulder when she pulled back from the hug, and then he led her down the stairs. “Let’s go get a drink, okay?”
Kelly remained silent and followed Jason down the staircase. She was still angry about the things Ashley had said to her, but she didn’t want the fight to escalate. Some time away from Ashley would be a good thing, and it might give her a chance to think about what she would say to Carrie. Kelly glanced over her shoulder to see if Ashley had retreated to the bedrooms.
"Hey now, I know you want to do all that girl talk stuff with Ash, but she got to hear all about your date. I’m feeling neglected. If I need to get a couple drinks in you, then so be it.” Jason tightened his grip on Kelly’s shoulder when she faced forward because of his suggestion. He kept a playful grin on his face as Kelly groaned and tried to protest; he glanced one last time at Ashley as he stepped off the staircase. He knew Ashley had something against the girl Kelly was dating, so he would just continue to step in whenever the two disagreed. He smiled reassuringly at Ashley and asked Kelly where she wanted to go for drinks.

Tommy giggled and ate another piece of popcorn as Carrie told them about the end of the date with Kelly. Matt had called him earlier in the day and asked that he meet them at Carrie’s house. He had arrived before Carrie and Matt, so he had made himself a snack. He was glad that he had since the details of the night out were as entertaining as a movie. “Tell me the part again where you offered Kelly your coat because it was too cold outside. You’re too cute!”
Matt laughed and stole a handful of Tommy’s popcorn. “Sounds way lesbian to me. I want to know why you ate the dessert with her. I thought you were trying to convince her that you weren’t gay.” Matt wanted to keep Carrie in a good mood so that she would talk about the phone call from Kelly. He hadn’t tried to make Carrie talk at the studio because of how his boss had dedicated herself to recording after the call, but now he had Tommy around for back up incase Carrie tried to weasel her way out of the conversation.
Carrie held Ace close and pet the dog’s head for her own comfort. “Ass. I’ve lent Tommy my coats before… and other girls. It was a friend thing.” She rolled her eyes as Matt and Tommy laughed at her. “I know you were paying attention when I said I ate the stupid dessert to show her that there were no hard feelings.” Carrie looked down at Ace for some support. “Go bite Uncle Matt.” She wanted the joking, happy, part of the story telling to continue for as long as possible.
Tommy picked out a small piece of popcorn and threw it across the couch to Ace. “So, the date ended well. I can’t imagine how it could have ended badly after you were such a gentleman.” He giggled when Carrie snatched the piece of popcorn before Ace could eat it, and threw it back at him. “What? I can’t help that I think it was cute that you were all worried about Kelly. I’m sure she thought you were cute too. Until you told her you weren’t gay for her.”
Carrie let go of Ace as she gave Tommy a look for his comments. “Go bite Auntie Tommy, Ace. I’ll give you a treat if you do.” She giggled when Ace ran across the couch and jumped on Tommy. Her laughter was short lived though when Ace decided to lick Tommy and tried to get into the bag of popcorn. “All the men in my life suck.”
Matt stretched out in his chair as he watched Tommy tease Ace with the bag of popcorn. “You better not give that dog any of that.” He would be the one that would take care of Ace because of Carrie’s recording. “So, if there weren’t any hard feelings, what was up with the phone call from Kelly earlier?” There hadn’t been time for Matt to tell Tommy about the call, but he knew the other man would grab onto the new information and help him get Carrie to talk. “You were kinda upset.”
Carrie grabbed a cushion and held it as she mumbled to herself about how Ashley could take a flying leap into a wall. “That would be because it wasn’t Kelly. It was her best friend Ashley.” She didn’t want to tell Matt and Tommy what the other girl had said about Kelly. She still couldn’t believe that she had misread the end of the date so badly. “Apparently, Ashley thinks I’m a diabolical bitch who led Kelly on, and I basically suck at life because I’m so self centered.”
“Whoa!” Tommy dropped the bag in his hand as he stared at Carrie. “Did you leave something out about the date, or did I miss the part when you mentioned that Kelly has crazy friends?” He glanced over at Matt, who seemed to be just as surprised, so he looked back at Carrie.
Matt sat up in his chair and watched Carrie. He was pissed that Ashley had gone off on Carrie, although he didn’t let his anger show for Carrie’s sake. “She’s so full of it. You were a good fucking first date. I’m sure this Ashley girl couldn’t have done any better.”
Carrie set the cushion aside and bent over to pick Ace up before he could get to the bag of popcorn Tommy had dropped. “She totally bitched me out. Saying I made Kelly cry, and that I was wrong to make Kelly be friends with me.”
"She what?"
"No she didn’t!"
Carrie nodded her head at her friends’ surprised exclamations. “Oh yeah, she even told me that I needed to stay away from Kelly. She all but ordered me to stay a hundred feet from her. I’m sure she’d take out a restraining order on me if she could.” It felt good to talk about the conversation, so Carrie went on when Matt and Tommy remained silent. “I don’t know what is wrong with the girl. She might be right on a few points, but she totally went nuts on me. I mean it would be one thing if I could just ignore everything she said, but I did hurt Kelly’s feelings.”
Tommy blinked as he thought about everything Carrie had said. He literally had to bite his tongue so that he didn’t automatically bitch about this Ashley girl; he didn’t like the way that Carrie had in a roundabout way said that Ashley was right. “Please, you went out of your way to treat Kelly nicely and make sure that her feelings were hurt in the least possible way. I don’t care if that girl is Kelly’s friend; she had no right to say what she said to you.”
“What he said.” Matt just pointed at Tommy because he was still angry about the way Ashley had talked to Carrie. He had teased Carrie about accidentally setting up the date with Kelly, but it had been clear that Carrie had been more concerned with Kelly’s feelings than anything else. If he opened his mouth again, he knew that he wouldn’t hold back on what he thought of Ashley.
Carrie started to pet Ace again while she thought about the things Ashley had said to her. “You guys would be upset if the same thing had happened to me. Maybe Ashley is right, that Kelly was hurt more than she let on?” She loved that her friends were on her side, but she couldn’t ignore what Ashley had said. “I haven’t talked to Kelly since that night. Ashley could totally be right. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is that Kelly has been pretty open.”
Tommy moved over next to Carrie and took Ace in one arm before he put the other around Carrie’s waist. “You should call Kelly. Personally, I don’t see why she would have lied after you explained everything to her. If anything your explanation would have given her the perfect excuse to cut all ties with you.” Tommy patted Carrie’s side when she groaned and let her head rest on his shoulder. As much as Carrie liked him and Matt, he knew it wasn’t the same as having girl friends that lived in town. “You know what I mean. Matt, you think she should call, don’t you?”
Matt wanted to go back to talking about the Ashley girl, but he would let the subject go for now since Carrie was troubled. “I can get your “boyfriend’s” number and we can forget all about this crazy mess.” He smiled when Carrie rolled her eyes at him. There was no reason he couldn’t try to lighten the mood, besides if he didn’t joke a little he would continue to be angry about Ashley. “Honestly, I wouldn’t put much stock in what Ashley said to you, she just sounds jealous or something.” Matt ignored when Tommy gave him a thumbs up for his advice.
“Look at you, being all helpful and stuff.” Carrie grinned as Matt blushed. She wouldn’t linger on the topic for Matt’s sake, so Carrie leaned across Tommy and smiled at Ace. “Do you agree with them?” Carrie laughed and quickly straightened up when Ace wiggled free of Tommy’s grasp and tried to lick her face. “Hmm, well, since all my boys think it’s a good idea…” The rest of her sentence was cut off by Tommy hugging her tightly. Carrie giggled and hugged Tommy back.
Matt chuckled at the scene in front of him, though he immediately got up and grabbed the bag of popcorn when Ace jumped off the couch. “No way, dog.” He tossed the bag onto the coffee table as Carrie and Tommy quit hugging. “You better have called and gotten this all worked out before we go into the studio tomorrow. I’m sure everyone will appreciate it.” He would have joked about Carrie’s behavior, but his phone rang. Matt checked his phone and smiled because it was his girlfriend. “I’ve got to go. I don’t want to get her mad at me again. See you guys tomorrow.”
Tommy called out a goodbye and waved while Carrie chased after Ace so that the dog wouldn’t follow Matt out the door. He looked at the clock and smiled when he saw that Hector would be home from work soon. He was supposed to call the other man and see if Hector felt up to going out on another date. Tommy took a handful of popcorn and settled back against the couch as Carrie told Matt goodbye and shut the front door. “Help me eat the rest of this, Care!”
Carrie set Ace down on the floor and watched him for a second before she ran back to the living room. She laughed as Ace barked and chased her. “I’m going to beat you to it!” Carrie jumped on the couch next to Tommy, and then she chuckled and caught Ace when he jumped to get on the couch. “How about I make dinner? I don’t know about you, but I want more than popcorn.” She just wanted to have a nice night and forget about Ashley and Kelly for a little while.
Tommy tossed some popcorn in his mouth and thought over the offer. He did want to go out again with Hector, but he also thought he should stick around in case Carrie had any questions. “Sure. You don’t mind if I call Hector while you cook?” Tommy figured that he could always go out with Hector another night. He held out a piece to Ace and giggled as the dog licked the popcorn.
Carrie batted Tommy’s hand away from Ace. ”Sounds like a good deal to me.” She let go of Ace and picked up the remote. “Don’t give him any of that while I’m cooking.” Carrie chuckled and switched the TV to ESPN as she stood and headed for the kitchen. “You can invite Hector if you want?” She wouldn’t mind the extra company since she wanted to get to know Hector better, but she would understand if Tommy didn’t want to invite his sort of boyfriend to her house. Carrie shook her head and laughed when Tommy yelled that he was calling the other man now.
