When they had woken up that morning, Die had expected a lot of things from Kyo. He expected to wake up soaked with the boy’s tears, possibly. He expected to even encounter anger and bitterness from the kid for getting him into that mess to start with. Much to the redhead’s surprise, however, none of that happened. Instead, the moment Kyo’s feet hit the floor, the boy started cleaning. Without Die’s encouragement or consent. Just silent, methodical rearranging and straightening. Needless to say, Die was perplexed.
Unpacking his things was easy when Die showed him where he could put them. His first place he hit was Die’s room, it was a bit of a mess, but it was no problem. The second place on the list was the living room, that task was just as hard as the bedroom. Currently, he was on his hands and knees, scrubbing the kitchen floor after getting all the counters, the fridge, and anything else. Die had offered him a mop, but he wouldn’t have it.
At the moment, Die was uncomfortable. Kyo was really getting into his cleaning binge. He was messing around and moving things, making the redhead cringe. Would he end up hurting the baby and himself? “Kyo,” he said gently, kneeling next to Kyo where the floor was dry. “Maybe you shouldn’t be doing this. You should sit down and eat something.” As far as he knew, the boy hadn’t eaten that day. He was hoping to distract the blond from his avid cleaning.
“I’m fine…” Kyo muttered as he continued working on the floor. The wood part of the brush scraped the floor when he pushed down a little too hard. Giving a heavy sigh he sat up to straighten up his back slightly and stretched his arms before going back to work. He didn’t want to stop working in fear of breaking down like last night, so to keep his mind clear, he kept cleaning.
Die groaned inwardly; unsure of whether arguing with Kyo would be beneficial. It was obvious that the boy was still bothered by what had happened. He assumed that this was the blond’s way of coping with the problems weighing on him. The redhead still crouched next to the boy, battling with himself. He reached out to touch Kyo’s shoulder and recoiled, remembering the blow that the boy’s father had given there. “Kyo… you need to take it easy.” He wasn’t sure that Kyo was going to appreciate him butting in, but damn it, the kid needed to calm down.
Kyo tensed when his hurt shoulder was touched before shaking his head. He was just fine, why wouldn’t the other believe him? “I’m fine, Die…” He mumbled again, putting the brush in the bucket before drawing it out and continuing his work on the final bit of the floor that wasn’t cleaned. With that done, he picked up the bucket and moved into the bathroom. His first task he set upon was cleaning the counter tops and the sink, not once looking up into the mirror.
The redhead stepped up beside the boy and placed his hand on Kyo’s arm. The kid looked at him finally, angry over being halted. “Kyo, stop,” he said, “Do you think that you can clean forever?” Without thought, his fingers stroked against the blond’s skin, trying to comfort both of them even marginally.
“Die, stop. Let me do this.” Kyo pulled his arm from the redhead’s hand as he turned his gaze away from him and moved to clean the bathtub, side stepping the redhead and pulling the bucket with him. Getting on his knees, he started cleaning the outside of the tub and around the edges. Why couldn’t Die just leave him be and let him cope with this on his own? That was all he wanted.
“Okay, then.” Die shifted back slightly. He turned and left the room, recognizing the signs that he was going to lose his temper soon. His switch had been tripped one too many times in the past few days and he didn’t want to become agitated with Kyo. Walking to the front door, he opened it and seated himself on the porch. The day was bright so far, but not blindingly so. Still too damn cheery, though—mocking even.
Kyo continued his task till the entire house was cleaned. He didn’t feel like eating, feeling far to sick on his stomach from not only morning sickness, but the night before. Moving to the living room, he grabbed a blanket from the closet and sat on the couch. Curling up, he pulled the cover over him as he closed his eyes for a nap, but his body just wouldn’t let him. Sighing, he opened his eyes and stared at the wall. His eyes started to tear up as he sniffled, pulling the blanket over his head as he curled up further.
Die wasn’t sure exactly how long he perched on the steps outside of his house. Cars drove by; some people walked by with their dogs, a young woman pushing a stroller. He clenched up his fingers, flexing his fist slightly. His hand still ached a little from striking Kyo’s father. Giving a sigh, the redhead debated over going inside or staying where he was. He opted to stay right there, feeling that going in to lock horns with Kyo would only make both of them more annoyed by each other.
Finally, the need for a companion set in for Kyo, needing someone to hug. A few tears spilled over the brim of his lashes as he sniffled slightly. Standing from the couch and taking the blanket with him, Kyo moved out to the porch quietly. He couldn’t help the sniffle he made as he sat down next to Die, keeping a small distance between them, not knowing if Die was comfortable with him being there or not.
Swallowing, Die glanced over at Kyo briefly before shifting his gaze back out in front of him. He thought the kid wanted to be alone. After a moment, he began to falter, though. Blindly, he reached over and let his hand seek out Kyo’s. Die couldn’t stay mad with the boy even if he wanted to.
Giving another sniffle, Kyo leaned against Die heavily and curled up against him and pulled the blanket around himself. He whimpered softly and wrapped his arms around Die’s waist. Tears soaked his cheeks as he finally decided to let go. A small sob passed his lips that couldn’t be held back, wracking his body with shudders. “Die… I’m so sorry…” Apologizing was all he could think of to say to the redhead. It was his own damn fault that they were in this mess and now Die had to take care of him.
“Don’t say that you are sorry,” Die pleaded, frowning a little bit. The boy didn’t have to apologize—he hadn’t done anything wrong. Twisting around, Die placed his arms around Kyo. He tightened his grip and pressed his face into the boy’s blond hair. All the while, Kyo kept on crying, the distressed sounds growing in intensity until Die was becoming worried about him.
Kyo wanted answers. Why did his family resent him? He thought his father loved him. He wasn’t very different from everyone else, just one extra part. Why would they be so cruel to him and treat him like he was the creature of the black lagoon? It wasn’t fair. Most family wouldn’t care and love their child anyway, but his family only cared about how they looked and their social status. They never cared about him. It just wasn’t fair. He never had a good childhood, and now, he never would. It had always been that way, always.
Die was still angry on the inside—very much so. However, more than that, he was sad. The redhead couldn’t help but feel some pity for Kyo as he sobbed in his arms. He was still very much a child, still very naïve in some ways, and it was obvious that the kid was almost starved for affection. It wasn’t right that he had been denied something so vital, just for being different. His hold tightened slightly.
“Die…” Kyo murmured as he pulled back to look up at Die, sniffling softly. “Do you… hate me now?” He wanted to know for sure if the redhead liked him or not, desperate to know that there was at least one person in this world that didn’t hate him for being different. He cuddled up to him, resting his head on Die’s chest, sniffling softly.
“Nowhere near it,” the redhead replied without hesitation. Even if he had felt burdened by the sudden responsibility that the boy had presented him with, he would have had to accept that he deserved it. Luckily for Die, he was secretly thrilled, intrigued by the idea of what was going to happen. His hand reached down to find Kyo’s damp cheek and brought the blond’s head up so that he could kiss him.
Smiling softly into the kiss, Kyo sniffled and pulled back. Nuzzling up to him, he sighed, hiccupping slightly as he started to calm down. “Thanks Die… That’s all I needed to know…” He mumbled as he closed his eyes, relaxing against Die. “I’m sorry about earlier… Cleaning helps me clear my mind when I’m depressed… Strange, I know.”
“At least it’s useful,” he joked. Cleaning to try to get past something that was bothering you seemed much better than drinking yourself into the worst hangovers that had ever existed. “It doesn’t mean that every time I see you grabbing a sponge or something, I need to suspect that something is wrong, does it?”
“If I don’t talk, then there’s reason to worry, but if I’m talking, you’re fine. I usually like to clean alone.” He shrugged, sighing softly. Feeling much better now, he felt his stomach grumble. He blushed and looked down at it, rubbing. “I’m getting kind of hungry…”
“Oh God, finally!” Die grinned, shifting so that he could stand up. The redhead had been worried to ask again; for fear that Kyo would get angry and refuse. He reached down and helped Kyo up. He paused a moment and brushed Kyo’s cheeks dry with his fingers. “What do you want?”
“Um… Anything, really. I don’t know if my stomach will be able to handle it though…” He shrugged. “I guess some chicken ramen…” Finally, it dawned on him. “Oh crap! I’m missing school!” Kyo sighed heavily and shook his head. “I’m going to fail this year and get held back.” He groaned out heavily and flailed slightly.
The question of schooling had bounced into Die’s mind a couple of times since they found out that Kyo was pregnant. If anything, he was sure that Kyo would have been able to attend until he was at least a couple of months, before he started gaining too much noticeable, conspicuous weight. After that, however… that was a whole different ball game.
The redhead set off for the kitchen, rummaging for some chicken flavored noodles, still thinking. The water finally came to a boil in the pot and he dropped in the noodles, waiting for them to soften up. A thought came to him fleetingly, but he decided to run with it. “What do you think about home-schooling?”
“Sounds perfect. I’d be able to do school and work.” Kyo smiled and nodded, taking a seat at the kitchen table. “It keeps people at school from getting suspicious and I can get my classes and credits no problem.” He swung his legs under the table as he talked, gripping the edges as he watched Die move about. For the first time, he felt relieved that he didn’t have to worry about disappointing his parents or evoking the wrath of his father if he did something wrong.
“I think we can give it a shot,” Die said, checking the noodles. They were almost finished cooking. “I think you should maybe finish up this week, if that’s alright, though. I need some time to figure out what I need to do.” Die found something strange about thinking of Kyo as his student. Well, the kid was one step ahead of the game—he was already sleeping with the teacher.
“Alright, that sounds fine.” He nodded. “Though, I don’t know how I’ll make it through most of the day with this morning sickness bit.” Groaning, he rested his chin on the table as he watched Die. His stomach grumbled once more, putting his hand on his abdomen.
Die waited a moment before answering, preparing Kyo his noodles. He brought them to the boy and sat down, finally answering. “You don’t have to go, if you can afford to miss the days. I just thought maybe it would be better that way.” He was glad to have at least suggested a solution that Kyo seemed pleased with.
“I don’t see how I’d be able to do it. I’d mostly be in the bathroom in front of the toilet puking my guts out.” Thanking Die, Kyo took up his chopsticks and started eating the chicken flavored ramen slowly so as to not upset his stomach. Every now and then, he stopped to take a sip of the broth to help ease his stomach.
“That’s your decision,” Die said. Kyo could drop out if he wanted to, Die felt. The redhead wouldn’t have advised it, but he was not about to try to run the boy’s life. “We’re just going to be in limbo for a few days while we figure this out. But those will just be days that you can lie around and rest.”
“I think that would be better. If I keep running to the bathroom at school, the teacher’s going to notice something and figure something’s up.” He sighed, shrugging as he finished off his ramen. For once, his stomach allowed him to hold down something. Even if it was soup, it was hard to keep down most of the time.
Die nodded, allowing Kyo to decide for himself. When he was certain that Kyo was finished with his food, the redhead picked up his dirty dishes and cleaned them up. He dried them and put them away, walking back over to the blond. “So… do I get to buy you a school-girl outfit?” he joked, smirking.
“Hm. You could, I wouldn’t mind wearing it.” Kyo gave a small smirk, feeling much better now that Die had disproved his thoughts. He stood from the table and moved into the living room and took a seat on the couch, curling up and looking at the television before flicking it on with the remote.
Die trailed after Kyo, settling next to him on the cushions. He trained his eyes on the screen, watching the channels go by as the boy changed them. Glancing over, he was pleased to note that Kyo looked a great deal happier.
Not having to worry with his parents lifted a significant weight off of Kyo’s shoulders. He didn’t have to worry about beatings or doing anything to anger his father, or hurt over the things he did. No dealing with remarks from his mother or the stinging words she would utter when she thought he wasn’t there. None of it, he didn’t have to deal with any of it anymore.
+leppgirl-- That's just what we need: a cheerleader so Die can put the smack down on some bitches. xD
