Just A Good Friendship

I smiled to myself as I ran my fingers through Sam’s hair. He was sat on the floor playing on the Xbox and was getting way too into the game; he didn’t even notice Danny tugging a flushed looking Ben into the room. Danny was looking quite smug as he pushed my legs off the sofa and plopped down beside me, pulling Ben onto his knee as he did.

“You alright, Ben? You’re looking a bit flushed, mate.” Cam glanced up from his phone to give Ben a questioning look. Ben looked down to avert his gaze.

“Err, yeah. Danny just… surprised me is all.”

“Damn right, I did.” Danny leaned into Ben and whispered “And that wasn’t nearly the best of it.” Ben flushed harder and glanced to see if Cam had heard that comment. He didn’t seem to have… but I did.

                “Oh, guys! Really? You couldn’t have waited? I’m glad I decided to get up as soon as I woke up, otherwise I would’ve heard everything!” Danny burst into laughter as Ben, impossibly, turned a brighter shade of red. I started to laugh when I saw Cam’s face! Oh, God! What a picture that was! His face went from extremely shocked to incredibly disgusted, but he couldn’t help but laugh at Ben’s face, too.

                Sam pried is eyes away from the screen at the random outburst of laughter and looked between all of us with a confused expression… which set us all off again. Even Ben this time, too! He asked what we were laughing at a few times and, when he didn’t receive an answer, he gave up and returned to his game.

                Once everyone had calmed down, Danny cleared his throat.

“Andy’s having a party tonight and I’ve said that me and Ben are going. You guys are welcome to tag along, too, if you’re up for it?”

“Yeah, I’m in. I haven’t got wasted since…”

“Yesterday,” we all chimed in. Cam rolled his eyes and muttered to himself, returning his attention to his phone.

“What about you guys?” Danny asked me and Sam.

“Yeah, I don’t see why not. I mean as long as you’re up for it, too?” I asked Sam, who was already too engrossed in his game to answer. I tapped the top of his head gently, saying “Sam?” in a sing-song voice. The only response I got was grunt. I shook my head and turned back to Danny. “Yeah, we’ll tag along.”

“Great! Should be fun!”
