Chapter 7: Damage Control/The Real Reason
Andy turned off the light and walked out of the bathroom. She yawned as she walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. It was about five the morning and she wanted to get a head start on breakfast. She called Lynn last night to tell her that they made it back safe. Then she asked what time should they be ready to see Kara in the morning. Lynn told her that they would pick them up around seven forty five, since they aren't too far from her office.
Now, Andy was looking through the kitchen getting ready to make her and Ethan some breakfast. She knew he would wake up when he would smell her cooking food, he always did. She took out her phone and smiled when she saw a text from Lynn. She sent a quick reply and then started to play music on her phone.
It wasn't long before she started dance and sing around the kitchen. She never really had time to actually make a home cooked breakfast. Not when she would work early in the morning and come home late some times because of work. It didn't take long for Ethan to come walking into the kitchen, rubbing his eyes, and having his classic goofy grin on his face.
She didn't see him and he took out his phone from his basketball shorts and started to record Andy sining and dancing around the kitchen. He sent the video to their co workers back home. Knowing they would get a kick out of Andy dancing around in her tank top and sweat pants.
He pulled out one of the stool chairs and sat down and waited for her to turn around. He was shaking his head to the country song she was playing. He still didn't understand why she loved country music so much. She always told him it was because she grew up with it. He knew this was her morning playlist when she would go into work. He knew what song was going to come up next.
One thing he noticed about Andy was that she always stuck to a certain routine when it came to certain things. He knew her day to day routine by heart. Even on her days off she had at least some sort of routine she would always follow and then she would finally relax. If there's one thing that didn't change it was her taste in music. She goes from country, to rock, to rap, to R&B, to pop, to alternative. She just loved music.
She finally turned around and saw him sitting there with his goofy grin. She just smiled and continued to dance and sing. He just laughed as he watched her pour a cup of coffee for him. He watched her work her magic in the coffee and he couldn't wait to drink it. She gave him the coffee mug and a spoon. For some reason he always needed a spoon in his mug.
"Some one woke up on the right side of the bed," he said with a smile as he started to stir his coffee. Andy laughed as she turned down the volume on her phone.
"Guess you could say last night went better than I thought." Ethan was about to say something when the doorbell rang. The two of them gave each other a confused look. Ethan held up his hand and stood up and started to walk towards the front door. Andy started to slowly walk towards the door just in case the worse would happen. She heard a voice and then Ethan's voice.
She heard the door close and then Ethan walked back into the kitchen with a small box. It was addressed to the both of them and then Andy's cell phone started to ring. She grabbed off the counter and show Ethan that it was her Uncle calling.
"Hey Uncle Chris."
"Hey Andrea, did you get the package?"
"Hold on let me put you on speaker. Ethan's here too."
She pressed the speaker button as Ethan started to open the package.
"Can you hear me?" She asked holding her phone and watching Ethan.
"Loud and clear."
"I thought you said that it was going to be here this afternoon."
"Well I paid a little extra to get it there super quick."
Ethan opened up the package and he pulled out seven keys
"Um, Uncle Chris why do we have seven keys?"
"Merry Christmas you two. Those are the keys to your new house." Ethan and Andy looked at each other with surprised expressions.
"H-h-h-house?" Ethan stuttered.
"I bought you guys a house. Fully furnished, all you have to pay for is utilities and cable, but the house is paid in full. It's not too far from where I am and about a ten minute drive to the resturant."
"Okay, but why are there seven keys?"
"So four of them are for you and Ethan. Two are spare keys and then one for each of you. The other three are for any of your friends that want to stop by. Say a famous band?"
Andy rolled her eyes hearing the smirk in her Uncle's voice.
"I wasn't going to have my family stay in a dump of an apartment. So Merry Christmas I'll see you both soon!" Before Andy and Ethan could say anything her Uncle hung up. They both looked at each other.
"Bro," Ethan said.
"Bro," Andy repeated.
After going back and forth and their voices getting louder and louder. They started to jump around and they hugged each other and continued to cheer loudly. They couldn't believe it. They had a house. Of course they didn't know what it looked like, but this was part of their plan. After they would move to Georgia they were going to find a house to rent. But they never thought this would happen.
Brian climbed the steps of the porch to the town house and before he could knock he heard loud cheering. He peaked through the window and saw Ethan and Andy jumping around. Alex and Lynn came up behind him.
"Did you ring the bell?" Alex asked.
Brian shook his head, "Look," he told them.
They looked into the living room and saw what Brian saw the two of them jumping around cheering loudly and then they were hugging each other.
"What's going on?" Lynn asked and Brian just shrugged. He rang the doorbell and again Ethan and Andy looked confused.
"I'll get it," Ethan said.
"Okay, I'll go officially make your breakfast now," she said with a laugh. She walked back into the kitchen and poured herself a second cup of coffee. Normally she would have at least five cups throughout the day. But since she was on vacation she would stop at three. She shook her head at the thought. She might actually stop at four instead. She put what she would normally put in her coffee and stirred it up. She closed her eyes as she took a sip and cherished the flavor. She always loved coffee in the morning.
Her back was to the entrance of the kitchen but she could hear voices in the living room. But she kept her attention on the stove. Since the pan she was using was starting to get hot enough for her to start making pancakes.
Ethan walked in to the kitchen and put his finger to his lips to tell them to be quiet. Lynn was tip toeing towards Andy as Alex and Brian were quietly pulling out the chair stools at the island bar.
"Ethan who was at the door?" She asked as she stared to pour some of the pancake batter into the pan. Lynn waited for her the large bowl that had the batter in it down, since she didn't want to spill it all over the place.
Andy was waiting to flip the pancakes when Lynn decided to cover up her eyes, "Guess who," she said in a silly voice.
Andy had small panic attack but then smiled, "Well, if it's who I think it is, they need to take their hands off of my eyes so I can flip these pancakes. Otherwise there's going to be burnt pancakes for breakfast."
Lynn smiled and took her hands away and Andy quickly flipped the pancakes and turned around and wrapped her arms around Lynn's waist and picked her up. "This is a nice surprise. I thought you weren't coming for another couple of hours," she said not putting her down. Lynn smiled and leaned in and gave her a quick kiss. She put her down and then went back to the stove.
"Well, it was mostly my fault. I woke up early and called Ethan and asked what you guys were doing this morning. He said that since you have a body alarm clock that you would be up around five. So I asked if we could stop by before the meeting and we would take you guys out to breakfast. But then he texted me back in time because he said he heard you in the kitchen." Alex said.
"Then, he blew up my phone so that I was up and suggested that we come here. After that I called Lynn, but she was already up and already thinking of coming over early. So instead of us treating you guys to breakfast we figured we could take you to lunch instead and show you guys around Boston." Brian explained.
"Also our parents, siblings, and Brian's girlfriend are doing some last minute Christmas shopping and we needed to do some too. Since we didn't get a chance yet because of the tour. So we thought while we are showing you guys around we could all Christmas shop together. Like we all branch out and switch partners and stuff." Lynn said smiling.
"Well I'm actually surprised you woke him up Alex," Andy said with a smile.
"Shut up," Ethan said with a smile.
"I was wondering who was going to eat all these pancakes," Andy said still smiling.
"Alex you need to try this coffee, trust me," Ethan said giving Alex his cup.
He took it and took a sip and he raised his eyebrows, "Oh my God!" He said as he took another sip.
"You might not get this back," He said winking at Ethan. He just waved him off and went to make another pot of coffee.
"Is it really that good?" Lynn asked. Ethan gave Lynn Andy's cup of coffee and let her try it. Alex gave Brian Ethan's original cup and the two had the same reaction.
"What do you put in this?" Brian asked as Ethan was grabbing a few more coffee mugs.
"Can you grab some plates too?" Andy asked Ethan and he smiled and nodded.
"Well, it's just your simple sugar, cream, cinnamon, and honey. But back home I use this chili pepper honey which as a tad more spice." She explained and put some pancakes on a plate. She started to pour more batter into the pan and every one started to take in the scent of the pancakes.
"Oh my God! Please tell me you're making Nutella pancakes!" Ethan said as he was putting plates out for everyone. Andy looked over her shoulder and smirked. He walked up behind her and gave her a hug.
"Ethan can't breathe!" She said and he kissed her cheek and let go of her.
She heard the coffee machine beep and she looked to Ethan. He didn't have to say a word. He took the spatula from her hand and she started to make a coffee for everyone.
The trio watched as she put in the sugar first, then honey, then cinnamon, then she took the pot of coffee and started to pour the hot liquid into the mugs. When she filled them up she put in the powder cream and using four separate spoons she stirred them all up. She gave one each to the trio and then walked over to Ethan and patted him on the back.
He traded the spatula for the cup of coffee and walked back over to the island bar. That's when he noticed the keys. Without saying a word he rushed over to the other side and started to gather up the keys then rushed up the stairs.
The trio gave each other a confused look and they all shrugged as they each were enjoying their cups of coffee. Ethan came back down stairs just as Andy was finishing up the pancakes. Ethan grabbed some forks, syrup, and butter. He started to set everything up as Andy was cleaning up so that way there wouldn't be that big of a mess to clean.
"Andy, these smell incredible and look amazing!" Brian said as Ethan put a couple of pancakes on his plate.
"Just wait until you taste them. I seriously don't know how she does it," Ethan said finishing up putting pancakes on their plates.
"Aren't you going to eat babe?" Lynn asked as she was buttering up her pancakes.
Andy turned around and picked up a small bowl of assorted fruits. "I haven't had pancakes in about two years."
"Come on you're on vacation, have a pancake," Brian said making her up a plate. Andy smiled and turned her back and started to clean the kitchen.
Alex stood up and walked over. He grabbed her hands and turned her around. "Eat," he said giving her a fork.
"Man, so demanding today," she said and they all laughed. "Brian I am going to blame you when my stomach gets all weird." She pointed her fork at him and he winked at her.
"Andy told me a little bit about Kara. Why do we have to meet with her?" Ethan asked while he was cutting up his pancakes.
Lynn used her napkin to wipe her mouth and looked up at him, "It's for 'damage control.' She just wants to make sure that we're protected and you two are protected from the media. All she wants to do is to get to know the both of you and to make sure you're not going to kidnap us or anything."
Ethan and Andy laughed and shook their heads, "I couldn't do that even if I tried," Andy said taking a bite of her pancake.
Alex, Brian and Ethan were eating their pancakes pretty fast. Andy looked up at them and shook her head, "Guys, guys, guys, slow down! I really don't want to do the heimlich maneuver on anyone today. Plus there's some more left," she said as she grabbed the plate with a stack of pancakes on it and put it down in front of them.
"These are just so good," Brian said with a half mouth full of pancakes. Andy shook her head and finished her one pancake. She could already feel her stomach start to turn. She put her plate in the sink and returned to cleaning up the kitchen. Lynn finished up her pancakes and stood next to Andy and started to help her.
Andy leaned in and kissed her temple and the two started to work together. Ethan couldn't help take his cell phone out and get the picture of Andy kissing Lynn's temple. He smiled as he saved the picture and sent it to Andy. He was just happy to see his best friend glow again.
*************************************************************************
"Are you ready for this?" Lynn asked as she knocked Kara's office door. Andy shook her head and took in a deep breath.
Alex patted her on the back, "You'll be okay," he said and looked at Ethan seeing that he was nervous too, "You too, you'll be fine."
They heard a faint voice telling them that the door was open. Brian opened the door and walked in first, then Alex, Lynn, Andy and Ethan looked at each other and nodded. He let her go in first and then he followed. Once they were inside he closed the door behind them and then turned and saw a woman with dark brown hair wearing a navy blue blouse with a black skirt.
She was on her cell phone and from the sound of her voice and the look on her face the conversation it wasn't going to well. Lynn and Brian whispered for them to take a seat in the two chairs that were in front of her desk. Without question the two sat down and waited for Kara to get off the phone.
"I told you I needed those prints yesterday and they're still not here! I don't care that tomorrow is Christmas Eve! You get those done and you get those done today!" She hung up her phone and looked up and smiled.
"How was Europe?" She asked sitting down looking at the trio.
"A blast!"
"Amazing as always!"
"Can't wait to go back!"
The three of them answered at once. Kara nodded and started to mumble "Good, good, good" under her breath as she was looking at her papers on her desk. When she finally found the one that she wanted she looked up at Ethan, then she looked at Andy.
"So this must be the one that got our Lynn's attention," she said with a smile.
Andy nodded, "I guess you could say that ma'am," she said with a weak smile.
"Well, I'm sure they told you why you both are here," she said and they nodded.
"What I want is to make sure that if anything were to happen that the two of you are protected as well as these three. Now, even though they do keep their private lives private, which I'm glad about. It doesn't stop fans from taking pictures and posting them the internet. Once a media source gets hold of any of the fans' pictures they start to come up with crazy ideas. The pictures of you two," she pointed to Andy and Lynn, "Are already starting to circulate and people are starting to ask questions. There's some positive remarks and some negative remarks. What I want to know is are you two friends with these three because they are a new upcoming band and you want to get ahead in life?" She clicked her pen ready to take notes on what they have to say.
Andy and Ethan looked at each with confused looks and then back at Kara, "No ma'am" they both said at the same time.
"Are you sure about that?" Kara pressed.
"Yes, ma'am. I can see why you would ask that. Here we are two fans of our favorite band and all of a sudden we became quick friends. But to be honest we weren't expecting for this friendship to go past that night in Charolette." Ethan explained.
"We already have our lives back home and honestly I wasn't expecting Lynn and I keep in touch at all." Andy said.
Kara nodded as she wrote down what they were saying.
"Fair enough. I also want to explain something, especially to you. Andy? Right?," she said looking up at her and Kara's intense brown eyes met Andy's worried ones and Andy slowly nodded.
"You're not in the spotlight, nor are you in anyway famous. So if anything was to go further with you and Lynn, people are going to start asking who you are, where are you from, where you grew up, and anything about your life. Your family would also be part of this whirlwind. Social media is not a kind place these days. Remember when that pop star Justin something or other started to date someone new? His girlfriend was getting death threats just for dating him. He ended up having to delete one of his profiles.
I also want to point out that some fans are still hoping Alexa and Lynn will get back together."
"What?" Lynn asked and Alex stood next to her and put his arm around her.
Kara looked up and her face went from intense to concern, "I'm sorry to bring it up, but it's the truth. There are people still in hopes of you two getting back together."
"But that's never going to happen," Lynn said shaking her head. Andy turned in her chair and looked at Lynn. Whatever Alexa did to her was really hurtful otherwise she wouldn't be acting this way. She turned back around and looked at Kara just as Lynn put a hand on Andy's shoulder and as if on instinct Andy's hand went to hers and she gave her a gently squeeze.
This didn't go unnoticed by Kara and she hid her smile. She wrote something down and then looked back up, "Okay we'll leave that topic for now, but as for contact information, I do want you two to have my number and for me to have yours. I also need a home address."
Andy's head tilted slightly, "I'm sorry, our home address?" She asked and Kara nodded.
"Why do you need our home address?"
"Just so I can send you any paperwork that may come my way about having your consent if a picture were to be in an article or anything."
"I don't feel comfortable giving you my home address. The phone number sure I can understand that, but our home address? I'm sorry but unless your the damn DMV I'm not releasing that information to you." Ethan looked over at his best friend and he knew she needed to calm down.
Kara looked at her trying to hide her surprise. She didn't think this conversation would go like this. After what Lynn told her over the phone earlier this morning she wasn't expecting to hear Andy's tone go from scared to angry in such a short amount of time.
"I understand you feel that way-"
Andy stood up, "I don't think you do. I understand that you want to protect me and Ethan, I understand you want to protect them, I understand you want to make sure we're not using them to gain something, and I understand you don't want them to get hurt. But what I don't understand is why do you want that information. You can get my phone number from Ethan and I'll get yours from him. But as far as the address goes, well you need a better reason for just wanting "consent" from us about pictures." Andy grabbed her jacket and stormed out of the office.
Lynn started to go to her, but Brian stopped her, "I'll go," he said and he walked out of the office to find Andy.
Lynn sighed and looked at Kara, "I'm so sorry, I didn't think she would act like that."
Kara just nodded, "I understand she doesn't want to give that information, I just want for the five of you to be safe." She gave Ethan a piece of paper and a pen, "If you could write down your phone numbers and I'll send you a text with mine."
Ethan just nodded and he quickly jotted down his phone number and Andy's phone number. He gave it back to her with a weak smile and she took it.
"We'll worry about the address later, the phone numbers will be okay for now. But don't be surprised if I ask again in the next few months," she told Ethan and he just nodded.
"Could you give us the room? I would like to talk to these two in private," Kara said giving Ethan a genuine smile.
He stood up, "It was nice to meet you," he said as he started to walk out of the office. Lynn and Alex both gave him a gently pat on the back. When he left the office the two of them sat down in the chairs that were previously occupied by Ethan and Andy.
"The phone numbers are fine for now, but I will need their home address." Lynn and Alex nodded.
"Now, Lynn I need to talk to you about those fans that want you and Alexa back together." Lynn just sighed and Alex reached over and took her hand in his.
******************************************************************
"I know dad, that's what I told her. I'm not giving that information out. That's too risky. I understand she's the PR rep, but still it was sketchy and I wasn't coomfortable."
When Andy left the office she went down the stairs and into the lobby and the first thing she did was call her parents and she told them what happened. They pretty much told her that she shouldn't be giving that information out and she agreed.
Sure, she may be twenty nine years old, but when it came to stuff like this she would always call them to make sure things were done right. She heard footsteps coming towards her and she saw Brian. She told her dad that she would call him back and she hung up the phone.
"You okay?" He asked walking up to her as she put her phone in her back pocket and she shook her head.
"No, I'm not. I may be over reacting but, why would I give my address to someone that I don't know or that isn't a government official?"
Brian nodded his head, "I understand. If you want you can ask Angel about all this. She had to go through it too."
Andy looked at him, "Really?"
He nodded, "Oh yeah. At first it was fine because we were just starting out as a band so, it didn't matter at the time. Then, we slowly started to get bigger and they brought her in and asked her the same questions. She too, wasn't comfortable with giving her address, but after about a year she finally gave it to Kara."
Andy nodded as she listened to him explain things, "I'll think about it. Thank you." She said putting a hand on his shoulder. Ethan came down the stairs and joined them. Brian looked behind him.
"Where's Lynn and Alex?"
"Kara wanted to talk to them in private, I'm guessing you should go up there too." Brian nodded and went back up the stairs.
"You okay?" He asked Andy.
She shook her head, "I need some air." Without another word the two of them walked out of the building.
Brian knocked on the door as he opened it and three pairs of eyes looked at him, "Hey everything okay?" He asked as he closed to door behind him. He saw Alex and Lynn holding hands and Lynn having a tissue in her other hand. He didn't have to ask any questions he just pulled up a chair and put on the other side of Lynn and sat down.
"What's going on?" He asked in a soft tone.
"Alexa" was all Alex could say. Brian knew that tone. He looked at Kara and she started to explain everything.
************************************************************************
The five friends were sitting at a restaurant for lunch, it was one of the trio's favorite places to go when they would come home. Lynn was telling Andy what was good on the menu, while Brian and Alex were also telling Ethan the same thing.
After the meeting Andy and Ethan were talking outside about what happened and he agreed with her about the address thing. He knew she was angry and that she needed to cool down. They also talked about how they were going to break it to them about moving to Georgia. They figured tomorrow night they could give them the extra keys and tell them then.
About twenty minutes later the three came out of the building and Lynn rushed up to Andy and just put her arms around her. Ethan looked at Brian and Alex and they told him that they would talk about it over lunch. Alex looked at his watch and noticed that it was close to lunch time and he suggested that they go and grab something to eat.
The restaurant was only three blocks away and started to walk with Alex leading the way. Andy had her arm around Lynn holding her close and Lynn wrapped her arms around Andy's waist as they started to walk. Right now this was where they both wanted to be, close and in each other's arms.
When they walked into the place they were greeted with smiles and hugs. They introduced Andy and Ethan to everyone. Then they were brought to the back so that they could have some privacy from prying eyes. This was one of reason why they loved this place. Also because they've been coming here since they were kids, but they didn't know each other at the time. It wasn't until Brian mentioned it to them a few years ago.
Once they were all settled and put in their drink and food orders Ethan finally asked, "So what happened in there?"
Alex and Brian looked at Lynn and she nodded as if to tell them it was okay to talk about it. Alex sighed and looked at Ethan, "We were talking about any repercussions Lynn would have when the world finds out that she's moved on with Andy."
"Why would there be repercussions?" He asked.
"Well, like Kara said there are some fans that want Lynn and Alexa back together. There's even a fan website for it."
Brian showed them on his phone, "Wow they are really decicated." Andy said.
"Yeah, so she wanted us to tell you that whatever happens don't let these fans get to you. They just want Lynn to be happy, but they don't know the whole story about the break up."
"So what's the real story?" Ethan asked. Both Brian and Alex looked at Lynn and she cleared her throat.
"I don't even know where to start," she said softly.
Andy took her hand in hers, "The beginning is always a good place," she said with a half smile.
Lynn looked at her and touched her cheek and smiled, "How do you do that?"
Heard some one clear their throat and she was brought back to reality, "We'll talk about that question later," Andy whispered and kissed the heel of her hand. Lynn kept her hand on her cheek a little longer then looked at Ethan.
She took in a deep breath and let it out slowly, she closed her eyes and took in another deep breath. She opened her eyes and looked at the four people at the table. Brian and Alex already knew, and she was hoping she wouldn't have to explain the the situation, but since Andy opened up about her ex girlfriend she guessed it was her turn.
"When I was eighteen I started to date this girl Alexa, I was captivated by her. She was a musician and we were in bands and we would be at the same music festivals and everything seemed to be perfect. That was until the last few months of our relationship. She started to become distant and didn't seem very interested in what I was doing.
She was on her phone a lot more and she kept smiling and giggling. Every time I asked her what was so funny, she would tell me that some one sent her a funny video or she saw something that was funny. When I would ask to see she would tell me that she already deleted it. I started to fall into this deep depression because we were touring, recording our first record and filming music videos, I was getting exhausted. I started to lose myself and she wasn't really around."
Andy squeezed her hand telling her that she was there for reassurance.
"I started to drift away and my two best friends were there doing their best to help me through what I was going through but it wasn't enough. I felt my heart starting to break and the one person I wanted to hold me would hold me but it didn't feel the same. A couple of months before we released our first album she and I broke up."
"Who broke up with who?" Ethan asked.
"At first I thought it was a mutual thing, then in December of the same year I found out she was dating some one new. That's when I started to stalk her profiles and it seemed really odd to me that she moved on so quickly." She stopped talking when the server came by and gave them their drinks. They all said a quick thank you and when she left Lynn continued telling her story.
"Things started to make sense to me. The always being on her phone, the way she was being distant and the feeling of her just giving up on me. It just put me in this dark place, and I felt as if I couldn't get out of it."
"It was then Brian and I started to notice that she was acting different and one night after a show she didn't say a word to us. She just went on the bus and went straight to her bunk. We just thought she was tired so we let her be. It wasn't until a few hours later I was looking through one of the social media apps and there it was Alexa with her new girlfriend. I didn't waste any time and I called Alexa and I started going off on her."
"It wasn't a pretty picture," Brian chimed in taking a sip of his drink.
"I mean she should've been happy. We just released our first full length album and we were doing so well on the charts. But she just kept sinking deeper and deeper."
At this point Andy put her arm around Lynn and kissed her temple. She knew exactly what Lynn was feeling at the time.
"Is that where inspiration for your second album came from?" Ethan asked.
Lynn nodded, "Some of our first album and a lot of our second album was based on what I was feeling at the time. I just started to write about anything and everything. I seriously thought I was going to die last year and it wasn't until I decided to go to therapy to help me cope with things. It started to help and then we started to record our second album and things started to slowly get better. I had a great support system and then we released our videos and then announced the release and then announced our tour."
"Then we met you two and the rest is history," Brian said with a chuckle.
"I gotta be honest these last couple of months you have been your old self again," Alex said looking at Lynn with a smile.
"Well I have four reasons for that and they are all sitting at this table."
"I gotta be honest, I never thought I would get this close to fans," Brian said with a smile.
"I gotta be honest I never thought I would get this close to my favorite band," Ethan said and everyone laughed.
"But seriously, I think all of us came together for a reason. I many not know what that is, but I'm glad it happened," Ethan raised his glass, "Here's to a long lasting friendship, and relationship," four other glasses were raised and they all clinked them together.
They're food arrived and it was time to enjoy a good lunch and then they would split off to buy Christmas presents for each other.
****************************************************************************
"Okay so what is she really into?" Lynn asked Ethan as they were walking around one of the shops.
"Well you already know about Assassin's Creed," he said with a small chuckle.
"Yup, was there when she got the tattoo." She said smiling picking up an item here and there.
"She's really big on books too, if you could find any book by Caroline B. Cooney, or Amelia At-Rhodes she would truly fall in love with you. They are her favorite young adult authors. When she was in middle school and high school she would read their books. Back home on her days off she would go to local bookstores hopefully to find them. She found some but not all because throughout the years she sadly lost most of them. So if you could find those, she will love you forever," he said as he picked out something for Alex.
"I know just the place," she said smiling, "Do you need more time?" She asked as he was looking at some more things.
"Yeah, I mean we already got you guys some things but a few more wouldn't hurt. Don't worry I'll be with the guys picking out your other gifts." He told her with a smirk. She playfully hit him and they continued to look around the store.
Meanwhile a few stores down Alex, Brian and Andy were looking for some for Lynn and Ethan.
"Okay so what should I get her? I mean I kinda got her a few things already but, I feel like maybe something else too."
"Well, she's really into 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' I know she was talking about getting the collector's DVD." Alex said.
Andy looked at him and smiled, he looked at her, "You didn't!"
She nodded, "I did. Perks of being a fan and stalking y'all on the internet," the three of them laughed.
"Honestly, I'm sure whatever you give her she'll love. Anything straight from your heart," Brian said and he picked up an item and showed Andy.
"How's this for Ethan?"
She looked up and nodded, "He will definitely love that," she said.
They looked around a little more and Andy finally came up to an item and for some reason something told her to buy it. Alex and Brian joined her and without a word to each other they looked at Andy and nodded. She smiled and picked it up.
After about another hour or so they were walking up the check out line when Brian heard his name being called. He stiffened up for a moment because he knew who the voice belonged to. He didn't have to guess who it was because he was facing Alex and he could see the look on his face wasn't a good one. He turned around and put on a fake smile.
"I thought that was you," the dark haired girl said as she came up to him and gave him a hug. He reluctantly used one of his arms and hugged her back.
They pulled apart and she went to hug Alex but he took a step back, "Hey Alexa," he said in a curt tone. He could tell that his tone bothered her but she kept smiling.
"So how are you guys? It's been a while," she said tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"We're good. Just got off our headliner tour promoting our second album. Had a lot of sold out shows." Brian said trying to keep his voice calm.
"That's great, that's great. Where's Lynn?" She asked looking behind them.
"She's with a friend of ours picking out presents for us. We're about to switch actually. We're with our other friend picking out presents for them."
Andy looked into her bag and smiled, "Guys, they gift wrap them here too. That just saves me five minutes of my mess wrapping skills," she said with a small laugh. She looked up at her two friends and they were looking at the girl in front of them. Andy could tell this was a tense conversation.
"Hi, I'm Alexa," she said holding out her hand for Andy to shake. Andy looked taken aback but she quickly shook it off.
"I'm Andrea, but everyone calls me Andy," she said shaking Alexa's hand.
Alex put his arm around Andy and looked at Alexa, "Andy is Lynn's new girlfriend," Brian and Andy's head turned and looked at Alex in disbelief. Wondering what the fuck he just said.
Andy looked back at Alexa and gave a weak chuckle. Brian quickly closed his gaping mouth and nodded, "Yup her and Lynn are an item now," Andy looked at Brian and then back at Alexa again gave her a weak chuckle.
"How's your girlfriend?" Alex asked still being a little cold towards Alexa. She just nodded and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear again.
"Uh, she's good, she's actually across the street getting me a Christmas present," she said nodding. The tension was so thick Andy felt that she could cut it with a knife.
"Well it was good seeing you guys. Like I said it's been a while. Hope you have a good Christmas." She said and started to walk away.
"Yeah you too," Brian said and once she was out the door both Brian and Andy gave him a punch in the arm.
"OW! What the fuck guys?!"
"You just told Lynn's ex girlfriend that Andy and Lynn are together!" Brian said through gritted teeth.
"What the fuck did we just talk about with Kara?! Alex we don't need to start shit already! Now the rumors are going to start flying!"
"I'm sorry! But she pisses me off and for her to think that we're still cool with her is fucking insane! I'll deal with Lynn. But I was in the moment and I panicked. I didn't want to give her the satisfaction that Lynn hasn't moved on when she clearly has!"
Andy watched the two friends go back and forth. She was about to say something when she saw Lynn and Ethan through the window. She hit both of them and they looked at her, "Talk about this later," she said and she nodded towards the front door.
"I'll keep them distracted and you pay for your things!" She said in an aggressive whisper. The two of them nodded and they went up to the register just as Lynn and Ethan walked in.
Andy smiled and put her bag behind her back. Lynn walked up to her and gave her a small kiss on the lips, "So what did you get me?" Lynn asked against Andy's lips and she took a step back and shook her finger in front of her.
"You won't find out until Christmas," she said with a smirk.
Lynn just smiled and walked up to her again and gave her another kiss only this time she made sure it lingered. "Are you really going to make me wait two more days?" Lynn whispered and Andy's head was spinning. She wanted to give in, but she found the strength and smirked at her.
"Yes I am," she whispered back. Lynn started to playfully pout at Andy and she wasn't going to fall for it.
She just took her hand and smiled, "So I guess it's time to switch it up?" Andy said looking at the guys.
"Wanna meet and Chez's after?" Alex suggested.
"That sounds good," Lynn nodded.
"What's Chez's?" Ethan asked. Brian smiled and put his arm around him.
"You know how you have Mary's back home?" Ethan and Andy nodded answering Brian's question.
"Well that's Chez's for us." He told him with a smile.
"We'll see you guys in a few," Alex said giving the two women a hug as did Brian and Ethan. They walked out of the store and started to walk down the sidewalk to go to a new shop.
Andy took Lynn's hand in hers and they walked out of the store and went the opposite direction of the guys. Lynn rested her head on Andy's shoulder and had her other hand on Andy's arm while the other hand was entwined with Andy's hand.
Snow started to gently come down on the city and Andy let go of Lynn's hand so she could take out her phone and so she could take pictures of the city. She was careful not to get Lynn in any of her pictures. Since they weren't 'officially' together she didn't want to create any rumors.
What she didn't know was Lynn was doing the same thing but she got a couple of pictures of Andy. She stopped taking pictures when she heard Andy talking and saw that she was taking a video. She decided that maybe this would be the time to make the move. She walked up to Andy and put her arms around her waist.
Andy stopped her video and looked at her, "Keep recording," Lynn said giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"Are you sure? Because if I post this people are going to start talking."
"Let them talk, you and I will decide what we are later, but right now seeing you so care free and smiling is the best Christmas gift I could ever ask for." Andy smiled and leaned in and kissed her gently. She pulled away and started to record again.
"Hey guys, I'm in Boston with this beautiful woman for the Holidays. This place is so magical and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else right now." She looked at Lynn and smiled and Lynn looked at her and kissed her. When they pulled away from each other Andy looked back at her phone, "I hope everyone back home is having an amazing time and Merry Christmas." Andy stopped recording and looked at Lynn one more time.
"Are you sure about this?" She asked.
Lynn gave her another soft kiss. "I'm sure," she said.
Andy nodded and posted the video on her profile. "Well it's out there now." Andy put her arm around Lynn's shoulder and pulled her in close.
"Let's see what we can get the guys,"Andy said as she kissed Lynn's temple. She leaned against Andy and wrapped her arms around her waist and they walked into a shop and started to look around. Another couple walked into the shop just as Lynn and Andy decided to split off and look for gifts for the guys. They didn't want to get them the same things so they decided going their separate ways would be easier.
Lynn was three aisles from Andy when some one accidently bumped into her. She said a quick apology and the person said that it was alright. She looked up, saw a glimpse of blonde hair and turned around fully seeing who it was. She quickly looked back at the shelf she was looking at and then decided to try and find Andy.
Andy was looking at a couple of stocking stuffers on the wall when some one came up to her and grabbed her hand and started to pull her towards the door. She looked up and saw that it was Lynn. She wanted to ask what was going on but then she heard some one say call out Lynn's name. That's when she stopped and Andy could feel Lynn's hand squeeze hers tighter.
"I thought that was you," the girl with the blonde hair said with a smile.
"Hey Cacie," Lynn said, "We were just leaving," she added and started to take Andy with her. Before the other girl could stop her they were out the door and Andy was trying to catch up with Lynn.
"Hey, hey, hey, come on," Andy put her arm around her and she found a small cafe and they walked in. She found a table and helped Lynn sit down. She took off her jacket and went up to the cashier and asked for two drinks. She paid for them and after a few minutes of waiting he gave her two coffee cup mugs. She thanked him and she carefully walked over to Lynn and set down a mug in front of her, "I don't need any more coffee."
Andy chuckled, "It's not coffee, it's hot chocolate. I always find that hot chocolate can fix anything. Especially with a couple of marshmallows," she said and put a few small marshmallows into Lynn's cup with a spoon and started to make a smiley face with them.
She looked up at Andy and smiled. She took her hand in hers, "How do you do that?"
"Do what?" She asked as she was using her thumb to gently rub Lynn's knuckles.
"Know how to make me smile, or make me feel better."
Andy looked down at her cup of hot chocolate and then back up at Lynn, "To be honest, I have no idea. I guess you could say I don't like seeing people I care about in pain. So I do my best to cheer them up in any way that I can."
"You're amazing."
Andy shook her head, "Not as amazing as you," she said and kissed the back of her hand. Again Lynn blushed.
"I hate to bring it up, but who was that?" Andy asked and she took a sip of her hot chocolate. Lynn looked out of window and saw people walking up and down the street in the snow going on about their lives. People were shopping, some were trying to get their kids under control, some were holding hands and holding each other close, some were carrying shopping bags and rushing down the street. Tis the season everyone says.
After she gathered her thoughts she looked back at Andy and found her voice, "That was the girl Alexa left me for."
Andy blinked a few times looking at Lynn. She couldn't read her face, "What?"
"I still find it hard to believe that someone would leave you for some body else," Andy finally said.
"Why do you find it hard to believe?"
"Well for starters you're so much more beautiful than she is," She said and took a sip of her hot chocolate.
"Second, she's not all that cute. Third, why would anyone leave you? Fourth," Lynn listened to what Andy was saying about her and she could help but have her heart beat faster and she felt her heat rising in her cheeks and she couldn't help but smile.
"And lastly, okay well I have more, but the last thing I'm gonna say is that anyone would be lucky enough to call them yours," she smiled and took another sip of her hot chocolate. Lynn was about to say something when a couple of young girls came up to her and smiled.
"Hi, I'm so sorry, but we were wondering if we could get a picture with you?" Andy let go of Lynn's and stood up.
Lynn smiled and nodded, "Sure."
"Here I'll take it for you," Andy offered and they looked at the both of them with big smiles. Lynn stood up and as one of the girls gave their cell phone to Andy and when they were ready she took a few pictures of them.
"Alright y'all look awesome," she said smiling and gave the girl back her phone. They said thank you to Andy and then turned back to Lynn and started to talk about how amazing she was and she inspires them. Lynn said that they were sweet and she told them thank you for the compliments and she told them to keep their head high and don't take any bullshit from anyone. She gave them both a hug and they thanked her one more time and walked away giggling.
She sat back down and Andy couldn't help but smile, "You're really good with them."
Lynn looked after the two girls and smiled, "They make all this worth it," she said.
Andy looked at her watch, "Shit, we better get going. We didn't get anything for the guys and it's almost time to met up."
Lynn's eyes widen, they were so caught up in everything she forgot they were meeting up with the guys. Andy helped Lynn with her coat and then put on hers right after. She held the door open for Lynn and walked out right behind her. They're hands met and they started to walk down the street to another shop. This time to find something for the guys.

"Where are they?" Alex asked as he looked down at his watch. Ethan kept his eye on the door and Brian was with Angel ordering drinks at the bar. Ethan stood up and started to wave at some one. Alex stood up and saw Lynn leading Andy towards them.
"Holy shit!" Lynn said when she came up to them and gave them each a hug. Andy did the same and she helped Lynn out of her jacket and then took off hers. She smiled at her and took a seat next to Alex.
"Wanna drink?" Andy asked
Lynn nodded, "Glass of red please," She winked and nodded and walked back into the crowd.
"This place is packed tonight! More than usual!" Lynn said looking around at everyone.
"Two days before Christmas, people are in town and they want to have a bit of fun before the family drama starts." Alex said looking around. Angel and Brian came back with their drinks and sat down on the couch with Ethan.
"Hey we were wondering where you guys were," Brian said smiling at Lynn.
"Sorry, we kind of ran into somebody and I got all distracted."
"Who did you run into?" Ethan asked.
"Cacie," she said. Brian and Alex looked at each other and Lynn saw the exchange happen.
"What's going on?"
Alex turned to her and sighed, "We saw Alexa today," he told her. She looked at him then at Brian. Andy came back over to them and looked at what was going on. She didn't say a word and just put down Lynn's glass on the table and sat in the chair that was between the two couches.
"That would make sense since we saw Cacie."
"Yeah, we saw her when we were with Andy buying your Christmas present." Brian said.
Lynn looked at Andy, "You met her?"
"I didn't know who she was until she said her name. Then Alex had to go and open his fucking mouth. I'm sorry Alex, I didn't mean for it to come out like that."
"It's okay," he said giving her a reassuring smile.
"What did you say?"
"I told her that Andy was your new girlfriend," Alex said and Lynn blinked a few times processing what he just said.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't know what I was saying, but I couldn't let her think that you didn't move on from her. I'm so sorry." Lynn looked around at everyone and they were looking every else but them. She did meet Andy's eyes and she could tell that she was also apologetic for earlier today.
"I can't really get upset about that since I let Andy post a video of us not too long ago," she said wanting to smile. Brian, Alex, and Ethan all looked at each other and they all scrambled to get their phones out of their pockets.
Lynn picked up her drink from the table and then winked at Andy who winked back. They all watched the video and they looked at the two of them, "Shut up Ethan," Andy said looking at her best friend.
"So are you two announcing it?" Angel said looking at the both of them. Lynn and Andy looked at each other and Andy just gave her a wink.
"I guess you could say as of right now it's a good maybe," Lynn said.
Andy just nodded and shrugged, "You could say that," she said giving her a wink.
Alex stood up and walked over to Andy, "The mistletoe guy is coming around, I need you to sit over there before he makes Lynn and I kiss again." Andy stood up with a confused look and sat down next to Lynn.
"What do you mean 'again'?" Ethan asked.
"We come here every year and every year this guy comes around with a mistletoe and has couples kiss, he takes their picture and puts it on the wall." Brian said pointing towards the back of the bar. Ethan and Andy had to stand up to check out the wall and sure enough there was a wall full of polaroids.
The two at back down and Ethan looked at Alex with a smirk, "Are you and Lynn up there?"
"Shut up Ethan," Lynn and Alex said at the same time.
"Uh oh here he comes," Angel warned.
A guy dressed in an all green suite came up to them with a really big smile on his face. "Hey guys! Another year another kiss!" He said and he held a mistletoe over Brian and Angel. The two smiled and gave each other a soft kiss and there was a flash from the Polaroid camera. The picture came out and he gave it to them to check it out before he put it in his bag. He turned to Andy and Lynn and looked confused when he saw Alex sitting in the chair instead of next to Lynn.
Alex smiled, "Hey Trent."
He shrugged his shoulders and held the mistletoe over Andy and Lynn. They looked at each with a smile and leaned in and kissed softly. There was another flash and the picture came out. Andy and Lynn didn't separate so he decided to take another picture for them to keep. After the second flash the pulled away from each other and rested their foreheads against each's and smiled.
The mistletoe guy walked stood by Alex, "I don't who that new person is, but Lynn looks really happy," he said with a smile and gave him the picture.
"She does doesn't she," he said with a smile looking up at him.
He gave the younger man a pat on the shoulder and started to walk away. Alex gave the picture to Lynn and she showed Andy. He smiled as he was looking at his friends in front of him. For the first time in a long time he felt at peace. He was surround by the people that mean the most to him and he couldn't be happier. He stood up and raised his glass.
"I would like to propose a toast," he said and everyone stood up.
"The three of us have been through a lot these past few years, but Brian had Angel who stood by him. I had Lynn, and Brian, then came Ethan and Andy. In these last couple of months I can honestly say I've been at peace ever since you two came into our lives. Andy you have been this shining light for Lynn and Ethan you have been the shining light for me. Angel you have been the shining light for Brian. Having you three here means a lot and I would love it if we started this as our own tradition. All six of us here in Boston, on Christmas and New Years Eve."
"Here, here," Ethan said with a smile and they all clinked their drinking glasses together. They all sat back down and started talking about plans for the next two days. Then they jumped to New Years Eve.
"There's this great spot that looks over the city and we go there and set off fireworks at midnight." Angel said.
"Turns out Lynn, Alex and I were going to that spot with our other friends, and we didn't know each other at the time. One year while we were on tour Alex started to talk about the spot and then I asked him if it overlooked the city over by the bay and he said yes."
"Just like with that restuarant y'all go to." Andy said and they all nodded.
"That's when we discovered that the three of us meeting was meant to be. So now every New Years Eve we go to that spot and we ring in the new year," Lynn finished explaining.
"I also think each us have gotten plenty drunk at a few times." Alex told them.
"Do you guys stay out there all night?" Ethan asked.
"Not really, I think we stay out until about three or four in the morning and then head home," Brian told him.
"Well what if you did this year?" Andy suggested taking a sip of her drink. Everyone looked at each other and Andy could tell they were thinking really hard about it.
"We would have to get tents and sleeping bags," Angel started to say out loud.
"Plus it would be really cold," Brian piped in.
"Maybe we could get a portable heater," Lynn said.
Ethan and Andy looked at each other and shook their heads. Angel and Lynn noticed this.
"What?" Angel and Lynn asked at the same time
"Okay well for one I'm from Wisconsin, and two Andy over here goes hunting with her dad for a week during hunting season. You let us handle all the camping stuff. We know what to do. We've been camping in colder weather."
"So what do you guys say?" Andy asked looking around and they slowly started to smile and nod their heads.
"I'm down." Brian said.
"Same," Angel said smiling.
"Let's do it," Alex said with a big smile.
Everyone was looking at Lynn waiting for her answer. She looked at Andy and looped her arm around hers and nodded, "I'm in," she said. Andy kissed her forehead and everyone cheered.
They continued to enjoy the night. No one was on their phones and they were all enjoying each other's company. They all were feeling at ease, and at peace for the first time in a long time. Tomorrow they would face whatever would come their way, as long as they were in it together, they wouldn't let anything or anyone bring them down.
