Winds Of Destiny(Pt6)
Half way back to the resort, Crystal broke the heavy silence in the car. “No one is following you.”
Sav rolled his eyes. “Both of you say that, but my instinct tells me differently.”
“Maybe its wrong, like Nick tells you all the time.”
“It’s never wrong.” He grumbled softly.
“I haven’t noticed anyone out of the ordinary since we got here, not even during the day when I’m walking around.”
“I have to agree.” Nick calmly put in.
“Ok…ok…” Sav held up his hand in surrender. “…I get what both of you are telling me, but try telling that to my instinct.” He huffed and flopped his head back on the seat, rolling it sideways to stare out at buildings going by. “I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”
“How is your arm?” Crystal softly asked.
“Still hurts, right along with my shoulder from holding it in the wrong position.” Sav rolled his shoulder to try and ease some of the tension that was pulling at his muscles.
Crystal briefly hesitated before reaching over to gently touch his shoulder. “Want me message your muscles?”
Sav closed his eyes when her warm hand touched him, sending tingles of heat through out his arm. He turned his head to glance at her. “No, tha..that’s alright. The pain will go away soon.”
Touching him anyway, Crystal gently messaged the tight muscle. “It might help, just have to relax your arm.”
Sav turned his head away again. The warmth of Crystals hand seeping through his thin shirt, combined with the sleepiness of healing, he asked. “How was the play?”
“It was not a play, but an opera.” Nick corrected him.
“Opera.” Sav mocked.
“I enjoyed it.” Crystal began. “Couldn’t understand what they were singing but understood the story.”
“They make the story easy to understand when some don’t like the music.”
“Its a matter of one’s prospective.” Nick added.
“Maybe.” Came Sav’s mumbled reply, followed by a deep breath.
“Let him sleep until get there.” Nick informed Crystal after few minutes.
Pulling her hand away, she stuffed them between her thighs. “I..I know..it helps with the healing.”
A short time later the car arrived at the resort. Nick gently shook Sav to wake him up. Scrubbing his face with his hand Sav slid out of the car to follow them inside. Going to the small kitchen in their room the resort offered, Sav pulled a green bottle from the shelve, popped the cork and took a healthy drink.
Crystal keep glancing at him until his eyes stopped on her.
“What?”
She furrowed her brows in remembrance of earlier. “Nothing. I’m tired and going to bed. Goodnight.” she said curtly, then quickly left the room.
A puzzled expression marred Sav’s feature, he shrugged if off as nothing. “Goodnight.” Taking the bottle with him, he wound his way through the room. “I’m going to bed...long night of healing to do.”
“I’ll be there shortly.” Nick pulled his phone out, dialing up a private number as he stepped out onto the balcony. When the line was picked up he spoke softly to the other person. “I need to you run a name, find out everything you can. No, it doesn’t need to be right away, take your time on the investigation.” Ending the call, Nick went back inside, closing and locking the door behind him. Stepping into the room he noticed that Sav was already in bed.
Removing his clothes, he slide in bed beside him. Nick leaned over him to kiss the cool flesh, lightly run his fingers over the exposed skin of his shoulder.
“You’re not going to take a shower?”
“No, I would rather give you that message to help you relax. Turn on your stomach if you can.”
Sav rolled to his stomach, stretching his nearly healed arm out to the side until it didn’t throb as bad. Nick straddled his legs and ran the palms of his hands up his back, gently squeezing the muscles in his shoulders.
“You are very tense.”
“mmm…yeah well…there is a reason.”
“One for which there are no grounds for.”
“Whatever you say.”
“I saaay…I love you.” Nick smiled and ran his hands softly down to his lower back and began to knead the muscles there with his thumbs.
Sav turned his head the other way. “Feels good and it is helping.”
Nick leaned over him, pushing the hair aside to see that his eyes were closed. “That’s all…it feels good.”
Sav cracked his eyes to look at him. “Yes it does.”
“Aren’t you forgetting something?”
“I don’t think…oh, I spent a lot of your money tonight.” Opening his eyes more to the bemused look on Nick’s face, he couldn’t help but smile. “And I love you.”
Nick smiled brightly and leaned down to kiss him. “It makes me all weak inside to hear you say that.”
“Not to weak I hope, you have to finish my message.”
Nick chuckled and sat back up to resume his message, wishing he could take it further, but knew better not too. Although in the past, it didn’t matter if Sav was injured, he would take what he wanted. Quickly shaking those thoughts, he shifted above him. There will be many more nights for such desirable activities. He could feel Sav drifting to sleep in his mind and the tension escaping his muscles as he glided his hands over them. Being careful not to disturbed him, Nick eased down on the bed to lie on his side facing Sav.
With softly whispered words, Nick reached up to lightly stroke his cheek. “You’ll never understand what the past few months have meant to me Richard, nor the depth of my true feelings for you.”

The following evening, once all their belongs were packed, loaded into the car. Nick instructed the drive to stop at the ice cream cafe.
Crystal was once again enjoying the ice cream she didn’t finish the previous night. Nick had wondered off to answer a phone call. Sav was sipping his preferred drink as he looked around the area.
“What was your favorite ice cream?”
Sav tore his eyes from the couple sitting a few tables away. “Oh, uh...had many favorites over the years.”
“There had to be just one that was better.”
Sav looked thoughtful a moment. “Tiny place in Casper, Wyoming during the Pyromania tour, sometime in 1983. The owners made it right in their shop. Little of the fudge drizzled on top chocolate and vanilla.”
“I’ve never had home made ice cream. Probably not that many places around any more. OK, favorite vegetable?”
“Probably potatoes, cooked any way you can think of. I already know yours. What is your least favorite?”
Crystal scrunched up her nose. “Asparagus. My foster mom always made me eat it, didn’t matter how it was cooked, it was gross.”
Sav chuckled at her response.
“Favorite fruit?”
“Oranges...includes freshly squeezed juice. One of the things I do miss.”
“Yummy. I like grapes too….”
“You like a lot of fruit.”
“Except avocados...blehack.
Sav laughed at her reaction. “I didn’t like those either.”
“Did you have a favorite candy?”
Sav again looked thoughtful. “I didn’t eat a lot of sweets, maybe warmed cinnamon rolls.”
“That’s not candy. Mine is peanut M&M’s.”
Nick slid into the empty chair at the table, having heard their last few sentences as he made his way across the courtyard.
“What about you Nick, what was your favorite food?” Crystal wanted to know.
Nick had a blank expression for a moment. “My mothers roasted rabbit, over an open hearth. We didn’t have the assortment of foods that are available today.”
“That really sucks you didn’t get the chance to taste much of anything.”
“I also don’t get cravings for foods or orange juice I never tasted.”
Sav's brows shot up. “You have a valid point with that.”
“Crystal, are you finished?” Nick indicated toward her ice cream. “We must be going.”
“I’m finished.” Crystal collected her bowl to toss in the trash. “We can finish our favorites list on the plane.”
“Sure, great way to ease the boredom of the flight.”
A short time later the car pulled into the hanger, the three of them stepped out of the car as a small group came forward to grab the bags for loading on the jet.
Crystal hoisted her messenger bag over her shoulder and bounded up the stairs.
“Good evening Ms Griffith.” Dan greeted her at the top.
She wrinkled her nose. “You don’t have to put Ms. Friends don’t do that.”
“Did you have fun in Marseilles?”
“Oh yes, most of it…” She turned to glance down at Sav as he made his way up the stairs. “...best part was going to the Louvre.”
“Wonderful. We must figure out a way to finish that tour.”
Dropping her bag on the floor, she flopped down in her seat. “Absolutely.”
“Evening Mr. Savage.” Dan also formally greeted him.
Rolling his eyes at him. “It’s Rick or Sav. And yes, I had a good time here.”
Dan slightly bowed. “Mr. de Barbant, good evening.”
Nick merely glanced at him as he made his way on the plane, then stopped, turned around to glance up him and down. “Explain why you are being so formal?”
“Respect for my employer.” Dan replied.
“That simply will not do. I hired you for your skill at flying my plane and your laid back humor.”
Dan couldn’t hold back his smile. “That was humor Nick. One day you might learn to recognize it.”
Nick scoffed at him and spun around to take his seat in front of Sav.
Rubbing his hands together Dan smiled brightly. “Great passengers are all here, luggage tucked away, next stop Nice, France.” Securing the planes door he ducked into the cockpit, radio the tower they were ready for take off.
The tug car slowly moved forward causing the plane to slightly jolt from the movement. Once they were clear of the hanger, Dan fired up the engines as the mechanic unlatched the tug, waved he was clear and disappeared back in the hanger. Thirty minutes later the jet was taking a wide swiping turn north over France.
Nick retrieved the papers that had printed out on the fax machine(yep still in the future) settling back in his set to scan over them.
“What are those?”
“Nothing for you to be concerned about.” Nick told him.
Sav quickly leaned forward to snatch one of the print outs from him, he quickly scanned the page. “Why are you investigating Sharna?”
Nick yanked the papers back. “Don’t concern yourself with that.”
“Well, I am and ask you again, why are you investigating her?”
Ignoring his question, Nick sternly glared at him.
“It was only one night.” Sav huffed. “Just don’t…” he bolted from his seat. “...don’t do anything to her Nick.” He made his way to another seat further away and flopped down.
Crystal waited a few minutes before she rose, taking her drink, try of broccoli and went to sit with him. “So, did you play video games?”
Sav turned a baffled look to her. “What?”
“Video games. Did you play them?”
Blinking several times Sav replied, “No, I never had the time.”
“What about after you came across and stopped touring?”
“No, never thought about playing those.”
“They are a lot of fun, kinda addicting. My favorite was Donkey Kong. There use to be an arcade in downtown LA we went to a lot. Do you know what an arcade is?”
Sav smirked at her. “Yes. Those were every where in the 80’s and 90’s.”
“Maybe we can find one of those old systems and play.”
“Maybe.” Sav softly replied then looked back out the window.
“What about card games?”
“When I was a kid, some times I play solitary or Mahjong solitary on the bus between cities.”
Crystal smiled at him. “I don’t know what those are.”
“Something else we will have to find and play.”
“Yeah, to bad we don’t have any of those now.” Crystal twisted in her seat. “Nick can we get those games?"
“I will look into finding them for you.”
“Great. Thank you.” She turned back around and snacked on her broccoli. “Maybe you should play more games. You wouldn’t get in trouble so much.”
“What makes you think I’m in trouble?”
“Nick is investigating that woman you were with the other night.”
Sav rolled his eyes. “He does that with everyone. Probably has buildings every where stuffed with files.”
“I do not. Those files are destroyed after I study them.”
“He has a file on you.” Sav informed her.
Again Crystal turned in her seat. “Do you have a file on me?”
“The Foundation investigates everyone it helps.”
“Where is my file?”
“Safely locked away.”
Crystal smiled at Sav. “He doesn’t know everything about me.”
“I know you have an exam that was supposed to be completed two days ago.” Nick reminded her.
“You do realize that vacation means no school.”
“We did our studies through out the year in my childhood.”
“We aren’t in your childhood. Go back to reading your report and leave us alone.” Crystal scolded him.
Nick lowered the paper to look up at her. A slight smiled touched his lips as he regraded her a moment. Dismissively waving his hand, he went back to reading.
Sav chuckled. “Not many can get away with talking to him that way.”
Crystal shrugged her shoulder. “OK, do you like to read, favorite book?”
Sav smiled. “Winnie the Pooh.” When he didn’t hear any response, he looked over at her, a blank expression on her face. “You know, Pooh Bear, Piglet, Eeyore...Christopher Robin…honey pot..”
Nothing.
Rolling his eyes, he started singing.
Winnie The Pooh, Winnie The Pooh
Chubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff
He’s Winnie The Pooh, Winnie The Pooh
Willy, nilly, silly old bear
Crystal couldn’t hide the smile, then laughed around the next few lines of the song.
A donkey named Eeyore is his friend
And Kanga and little Roo
There’s rabbit and piglet and there’s owl
But most of all Winnie The Pooh
Both of them laughed.
“Is that really your favorite book?”
“As a child.” Sav replied. “No favorite book or author really. It was another way of easing the time between cities on the bus.”
“I’ve always liked history, reading about it, learning about the past.”
“Nick is a walking history book.”
“I know.” Crystal smiled brightly. “We spend lots of time talking about it.”
“He does like to talk about the past.”
Crystal leaned forward. “Maybe he misses that.”
“I do not.” Nick replied as he stuffed the papers into the onboard shredder, then went to the cockpit to speak with Dan.
“He doesn’t miss anything.”
“No, he is very good at multi-tasking.”
Crystal wiggled in her seat. “I don’t want to talk about Nick. Hum...what else do you miss, besides the food...wait...I already know you miss touring, being in the band.”
“We are still in a band, just a little different then before.” Sav reminded her. “The sun, how the warmth it can bring on most cold days, warms the skin.”
Crystal bit into a piece of broccoli. “Yes, I love that feeling.”
“The moon has the same effect on me, but I still miss the full sun light.”
“You can stay out long enough to see some sort of sunrise and sunset. I’ve seen you do it.”
“Yes.” Sav’s eyes darted past her to see Nick returning from the cockpit, getting comfortable in his seat again. “Why are you buying another plane?”
“I want an upgrade, maybe bigger, one employee staff and add the games that have been mentioned.”
“There is nothing wrong with this plane, you’ve only had four years. Wait staff and games can be added cheaper then a new plane. Besides you can put that money to better use elsewhere.”
“Yeah Nick, give me a million dollars. I can walk around every city we visit and just give it away.” Crystal suggested.
“The Foundation helps plenty of people.”
“There are hundreds of charities out there you…”
“Of which The Foundation donates too...yearly. Neither one of you know what or who The Foundation works for. This year alone, two billion dollars has been allotted to those charities.”
Crystal snapped her wide eyed gaze to Sav, who only nodded in conformation.
“OK, what about donating to animal shelters and rescues? On the streets in LA, there were hundreds of homeless animals, starving and dying. Some of us did what we could, with what we had, which wasn’t much for animals most days.”
“That is a really good idea Nick.” Sav agreed.
“Perhaps.” Nick swung his gaze out the window.
Sav watched him a moment, then smiled. “He is going to do it.”
“What?” Crystal looked back at Nick, then to Sav. “How do you know?”
“He is not staring us down and he is thinking about it.”
“I hope so. It’s sad to see all the helpless animals every where.”
Sav smiled at her as he learned yet another facet about Crystal. “I just realized something. I don’t know to much about you, other then what we have already talked about today.”
Crystal settled back in her seat. “Well, the last few years hasn’t given us much chance to do that.”
“No…” Sav dropped his smile and looked away. “...it hasn’t.”
“I do know a lot about you, everyone talking, reading your journal and Joe’s, very insightful of your life with the ba…”
Sav snapped his eyes toward her. “You didn’t read all of them did you?”
Crystal was going to tease him that she had read all of them, just to see what his reaction would be, but the expression of embarrassment on his face changed her mind. “Some of them are under lock and key.”
“Good…” Sav again turned to look out the window. “...your eyes are to young for X-rated reading.”
“My ears are to young for it too.” She quipped. “So...we were asking each other questions before he…” Crystal hooked her finger to Nick. “...he barged into our conversation again.”
Sav chuckled. “He likes to…”
The plane suddenly took a stomach lurching dive, vibration sent everyone’s glasses to the floor, shrilling alarms could be heard from the cockpit. The plane some what leveled off only to be jolted hard to the right and dived again, the engines revved slightly to pull them out. Crystal’s terrified yell and white knuckled grip on the arm rest as a violent shudder rolled through the plane.
Sav saw her terror, he quickly unbuckled his belt and leapt over the table, taking the seat next to her. In a flash he was buckled back in and pulling her into his arms, rubbing her arm and telling her it was going to be alright.
The plane veered to the right again, groans of metal, more shaking, another stomach jarring upward jolt.
Sav quickly glanced out the window to notice they were lower to the ground then before. His mind flew to them crashing, knew that three of the mortals on board would possibly die. His arm tightened around the terrified woman in his arms.
Several long minutes passed before the plane leveled out and the intense vibration settled. Sav breathed a sigh of relief and felt Nick in his mind. Turning his attention to Crystal and her shaking, rigid form, he relaxed his arms a little, softly whispering that it was over.
Nick came into view a moment later, holding a bottle of water for her, bracing himself when the plane shook again. Sav took the bottle and stuffed it behind him. Reaching out for her, Nick gently squeezed her shoulder, offering more comfort to help calm her down.
Ten more minutes passed before she slowly pulled away from Sav to sit up, sniffling, swiped the tears from her face. With shaking hands she took the water and took several sips.
“Th...that was...I thought we were going to crash.” A sob escaped Crystal lungs, tears fell again.
“Hey...hey..” Sav hooked his finger under her chin and turned her head to look at him. “We didn’t. Dan and Kevin are the best pilots around. Deep breath, try to relax…” His eyes dropped to her mouth as she took in a deep breath, then back to her closed eyes. A sudden urge to kiss her swept through him. Sav was so taken back by it he quickly sat up straight, startling her.
Unbuckling, he bolted from his seat. “I need to get a drink.” He quickly covered the urge to get away from her.
