Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. I do not know the members of Linkin Park. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A few of them have smaller versions of themselves close to them and I’m guessing they’re young ones. They all look a kind of motley grey in colour and their skin looked glossy and slimy, though when I touch the neck of one that passes close to me, I find it’s not slimy at all, just very smooth, like... I dunno? Rubber? Glass?
I’m not sure what to make of it really - it’s just too hard to take in.
It doesn’t seem very long before I find myself on the other side of the loch - shit these creatures are fast!
The one I’m riding exhales in a drumming rush of pressurized vapor, then lowers her head to the water’s surface and swivels her slender neck to look at me through eyes that are infinite pools of ancients.
Hold your breath and hold on tight Star Child.
“Why? Where are we going?” I ask.
She doesn’t reply, but looks back at the cliff face and starts to submerge - well I guess I don’t have much choice.
I wrap my arms around her neck and lay down on her back, giving up the surface for the murky, icy Loch Ness depths; I can feel her front pectoral fins moving up and down together in a slow, even rhythm, and the water dragging over my face as we move.
It’s dark and my telepathy is going a bit weird - water interference maybe - but either way, sight is not working for me. I need... What do those whale people call it?
I struggle to think, I can hear whistling and all of these weird noises around me and I guess that the sounds are coming from the other plesiosaurs - it’s making it hard to think.
They’re babbling on and on and on...
“Shut up for just a second!” I shout in frustration.
It falls quiet.
Wait a minute... I just said something underwater? In clear English?
“Did I just do that?” I ask aloud.
Once again, my voice is clear, understandable.
“You can speak with us?” A young plesiosaur cocks his head at me while we swim.
His voice sounds like an ordinary human boy’s, but I can hear him whistling. He’s not speaking in English - but I can understand him.
“What do you think I’m doing? I don’t know why or how... Would this have anything to do with telepathy?” I frown.
“We shall ask the elders.” My plesiosaur says.
“Who are they?” I ask.
“Mommy! Mommy! He doesn’t know about the elders!” A very young female squeals and swims around me, playfully snapping at my shirt.
“Hey! Kid give me a break!” I let go with one hand and flap at the blurry little dinosaur nipping me.
Mistake.
I slip and get left behind.
“Yaaaah!” I cry out - and -
“Gotcha!” An older male shoves me forwards and then up - suddenly racing up, up, up and to the surface.
I gasp and splutter and grab onto the first thing I reach - which is the sturdy neck of the male that caught me.
You humans really are really quite amusing in water. You have no grace whatsoever.
He chuckles.
“Well we left the water and evolved for land. Not my fault.” I reply, shaking my head and pulling my hair back off my face as I tread water, clinging onto the male plesiosaur.
Maybe so, but from what I’ve seen, you’re not too graceful on land either.
I pause.
“You’re right there.” I admit.
I realize I’ve lost my pan flute.
God dammit!
“Ah, a human, Ozuen. The Star Child I’m assuming?” Someone old speaks and all of the plesiosaurs and me turn to look to where the voice had come from.
It was Hideaway Fingal.
“Hideaway Fingal?” I blurt.
The old coot smiles.
“So they say, so they say. I see you’ve become acquainted with our friends.” He says, motioning to the plesiosaurs around me.
“Our?” I ask.
Hideaway Fingal reaches out his hand to me in a welcoming gesture.
“Come. There is much for you to see.” He says.
Ozuen, the male plesiosaur swims to the side of the open pool, which is like an artificial rockery tank thing... It’s a bit hard to explain. But the entire thing was artificial, the rocks were real but I could tell they weren’t normal, and the pool or blowhole or whatever you want to call it was too circular.
Man made I’m guessing.
Anyway, Ozuen reaches the side of the pool, his front pectoral fins paddling through the water easily - right up until he reaches the side of the pool.
He heaves himself up with a massive telepathic and verbal grunt of effort - I mean - he’s not small - he’d be weighing in at something like eight to nine tons, so clambering out of water like a seal is probably a pretty mean feat to achieve.
I’m soaked through and totally water logged as I clamber over the rocks, with Ozuen close behind - all of his paddle fins pulling him along until he reaches the end of the rocks, then he stops and watches me as I follow Hideaway Fingal through the massive chamber and through a huge corridor.
