Rebecca paced across her bedroom talking frantically on her cell phone to Cat. Cat had called her upset about her cousin. According to Cat’s frantic conversation, Sophia had been always around, even when the newlyweds were trying to have a moment of peace together. So somehow Cat had convinced Becca to try and find a way to help out. And now the predicament had come to a forefront.
“Becca, if you can’t take Soph for tonight, who can we send her off on? I wouldn’t be so pushy about this, but I haven’t had a spare moment with just me and Ryan since she showed up. Too bad you don’t have any other single brothers to push her off on. At the very least we could blackmail them into a blind date.”
Becca stopped when Cat mentioned the blind date idea. That was it. “Cat, I think you just solved your own problem. Let me call you back in a second.”
“Okay, but you better explain what you’re talking about when you call me back. I’m serious, Reby. I’m getting desperate.”
Becca laughed as she walked back over to her desk and sat down. “Cat, don’t worry. Besides, I have an almost fail-proof idea. I just need to make a quick phone call to set everything up. Shame she’s not nicer, then I might not feel a little bad over doing this.”
“Becca, just figure out a way to get her out of my hair. ... Shit, she’s back, gotta run. Call me back, or I swear I’ll hunt you down and torture you.”
“I love you too, Cat. Later.”
Becca shook her head laughing at Cat’s threat before hearing a few muttered curses and then the click that signaled that Cat had ended the call. Becca dialed another number and leaned back in the seat, waiting as it rang.
“Hello gorgeous.”
Becca laughed at Joe’s greeting before shaking her head lightly. “Hey Joe-Joe. Quick question, are you doing anything tonight?”
“Ooh, Becca. Asking me out when you’re an engaged lady. How scandalous of you!”
Becca shook her head laughing at Joe. “No seriously, Joe-Joe. What are you doing? I have a blind date for you. Well, really it’s just helping Cat and Ryan out mostly. So, are you up to it?”
“It’s the supposed evil cousin, isn’t it? Nice. A crazy British girl. What does she look like? Anything like Cat?”
“Try blonde, blue eyes, and cheerleader type. And Cat wasn’t exaggerating when she said Sophia was a demon spawned piece of work. I think you might have your work cut out for you if you try to find something redeemable in her, Joe-Joe.”
Joe laughed on the other end of the call and Becca shook her head, knowing that she was probably only making him more intrigued than he was before. Sometimes she wondered if he was a masochist. After all, going out on blind dates that Petey had set up, and now willingly volunteering to go on a date with Cat’s demon cousin. There had to be something wrong with his head.
“Oh you never know, she might just be a little misunderstood. Besides, she can’t be worse than any of the crazy people that your brother has suggested. And there have been some pretty awful ones. How about I try this cousin out for a date and then I’ll let you snag someone else that you think would be the better choice?”
Becca smiled at Joe’s offer of just trying out a date with Sophia, at least until she could find a better candidate. Although there would be no telling what might happen on this date, given what she had heard about the demon cousin and what she had seen in the few times she had been forced to meet with her thus far.
“Joe-Joe, you’re a lifesaver. I’m sure that Ryan and Cat would love you forever for the night to themselves. And just to make you feel better, how about we make it a huge group date?”
“Sounds like fun, Becca. Why don’t we set this up soon? Because do you know how long it’s been since I’ve had a good --- well, how about I just leave it at that? But you and Cat can figure out all the details and get back to me.”
Becca laughed hysterically at the suggestions of Joe’s comments. She really didn’t want to think about one of her friends having sex, especially when it involved a blind date. That was just a little wrong in her opinion, but to each their own. And quite frankly, Becca was a little sad for Joe to be left out with all the boys getting married and such. So setting Joe up was a good project.
“Let me call Cat back and tell her about it then I’ll call you back to let you know what the plan is. Love ya.”
“Of course, Beccadill.”
Becca laughed as she hung up her cell and walked back over to her bed and flopped down on it to call Cat back. She leaned back, quickly dialing Cat’s number with a grin. She didn’t know who she was more excited for, Ryan and Cat or Joe.
“Ello?”
“Cat, darling, what do you say to a group date with us and Joe-Joe?”
“Setting Soph up with Joe? Are you sure that you want to subject Joe to that? I mean, we both know how she is. And Joe’s too great for Soph.”
Becca smiled, knowing that Cat was thinking about Joe’s emotions when she wasn’t as enthusiastic about the blind date idea. But at the same time, Becca knew that Cat would inevitably give in, as the promise of having a night basically alone with her husband would surely be enough incentive for Cat.
“Cat, don’t worry about Joe-Joe. Besides, you should know just as good as the rest of us that he would go out with anybody. I mean, he’s been on countless blind dates from Petey. So I’m sure that he can survive Sophia.”
“Alright then. But don’t blame me for having such a horrid cousin if Joe gets deep in the shit. So, do you have any suggestions for our free night? I’m all for going out on the town or even more appealing, a night in with nothing but a marathon sex party.”
Becca laughed outright at Cat’s last suggestion. Of course she couldn’t really blame Cat for wanting her time with Ryan, after all, they were still newlyweds. “Cat, I really don’t want to think of you and Ryan having sex. If you’re going to have your sex marathon, I don’t need nor want the details. But the night out idea does sound fun. I can ask Petey if he knows of any good places.”
“Becca, you know you have a kinky fascination with hearing about my sex life. Almost like being a voyeur, but not quite. At the very least you were just intrigued by the idea of having a night of debauchery with Patrick yourself, you kinky little bitch.”
Becca shook her head laughing at Cat’s teasing remarks. “Cat, sometimes I wonder about your sanity. But then again, you’re married to Ryan, so of course you would have to be a little crazy, wouldn’t you?”
“Oh, now you’re insulting my husband? That’s a low shot, Becca. How about I mention how less than normal Patrick has to be to be engaged to you and best friends with your brother?”
“Now you’ve done it. But then again, I guess we’re all a little loopy, aren’t we? Otherwise, things would be a lot less entertaining around here, wouldn’t they? How about a truce of insanity on both our parts?”
Becca laughed at the mock argument they were having. Of course they were both insane, but then again, who wasn’t in their circles? Cat’s laughter on the other end of the conversation was proof of that point as well.
“Alright then, a truce of insanity. Now, how about you call me back when you get all the details about our night out? I’ll go and make the suggestion to the cousin of mine. I hope Joe realizes what kind of trouble he’s getting himself into with her.”
“I don’t think Joe-Joe could care right now about the kind of girl he gets with. He might be a little desperate because of my brother’s botched matchmaking attempts. But I’ll go try and figure out a plan for tonight and I’ll call you back.”
Cat laughed at Becca’s teasing at Joe, because they all knew about how bad he had gotten in regards to standards, especially if he was willing to go out on blind dates from Pete. They all loved him for his eccentricities, but sometimes they worried about him. “Sounds good. I’ll go tell Soph. Ciao darling.”
“Later then.”
Becca closed her cell phone then laughed a bit before hoping up and heading off in the direction of the kitchen, as that was where she was sure to find her brother. “Petey!”
