Rock of Ages, Forever Pt70
Sav tossed and turned for hours on end. Maybe he was too tired, even his vampire nature wouldn’t let him sleep. He knew why, Nick wasn’t going to let him sleep as long as he was in pain, fine let him, and he deserved it. Most of the time he can kept him blocked out of his mind, but not today it would seem. Sav had sent a very strong suggestion through their bond, but that didn’t help. And it was starting to give him a headache, which he didn’t think he could get. Growling in frustration, he finally rose and grabbed a bottle to down half of its contents. He took a shower to chase away the exhaustion he felt. Throwing on an old ripped pair of jeans and black cotton shirt he went downstairs to the studio. He figured since he couldn't sleep, he could at least work on the last remaining tracks. It was quiet in the house and he figured everyone was out, well except for Nick and Fleur.
He went through the samples and demo’s he had for the one track that he couldn’t get right no matter what he tried. It was almost to the point where he was about ready to toss it out and get another song for it’s place, when a thought struck him. Why not take some samples from some of the old stuff and put on it? What did he have to loose? Pouring through the old stuff, he came up with a lot of good guitar riffs and drum bits that would work. Mixing those in with the track and replaying it only took him a couple of hours to complete, all he had to do now was see what the guys thought about it. He liked the end results and toasted that track for finally being completed. Maybe.
He was playing around with another one when Phil came in.
“Hey Sav, you're up early.”
“I couldn’t sleep.” Sav said and glanced up at him.
“You look really exhausted.”
“I am, haven’t had a decent day’s sleep since….what day is it?”
“Tuesday.”
“Friday.” He replied quickly and rubbed his temples. “Now I have an awful headache.”
“I didn’t think you could get one.”
“If Nick would stop his constant pounding around in my head, I wouldn’t have one.”
“He’s in your head?” Phil asked puzzled.
“Yeah, it’s from the bond we share through the blood……kiss, it gets stronger every time we…..we share blood.”
“Don’t be embarrassed about it Sav. I know how it works after reading through all of Nick’s journals. I suspect you have one with Joe also.”
Sav nodded his head. “Not like the one I have with Nick, because Joe hasn't… but I can feel him, weather he can sense me. I don’t know, I’ve never asked him.”
“He said he could especially after you do that, but if fades after awhile.”
Sav frowned at this information, “Interesting.”
“We were in town today and he made some of the wall comment about you were not sleeping today.”
Sav chuckled at that. “I didn’t realize I was reaching out that far.”
“It was quiet funny. He kept zoning out like he was thinking real hard about something and laughed several times for no apparent reason. He told me you were thinking about some stuff that happened years ago. But like I said, it faded as the day went on and they weren’t quiet as strong.”
“Guess I’ll have to be more on guard from now on.”
“How can you have that, if he hasn’t had that much blood from you?”
Sav only shrugged. “I have no idea, it could be because I almost did bring him across that one time. Maybe because I have taken so much, and he did have a little in the shower and studio that time. I don’t know really, to many choices.”
“But isn’t he slowly changing?”
“From what Nick says, yeah, but it’s hard to tell how long it will take.”
Phil shifted in his seat, trying to come up with a way of asking a few more questions without being to obvious, since Sav was willing to talk about it more, “Was it painful when you did it?” Phil asked.
Sav thought about that a moment before answering. “I really don’t remember any pain, just the emptiness from first hunger. Thinking about it now, I guess you could call it pain.”
“Does it have to be in done in a sexual nature? I mean, can a man bring a man across or does it have to be a woman?”
“No to both questions.” Sav replied gazing at Phil from beneath his bangs.
“What about the blood, what does it taste like?” Phil asked.
“I talked about that before. Each person is different. Vivian’s is spicy full of life, Rick’s is heady strong like a stiff drink, and you, full of energy, always having to be doing something. It's quite heady too, reminds me of peaches, sour, but yet sweet at the same time, and Joe’s….is...is like….the finest of fine wine, intensely sweet and erotic.”
“How can you know what ours taste like if you have never taken ours?” Phil asked.
“Smell, I didn’t know about that before, and I have actually taken someone’s on several occasions and it made me sick.” Sav told him.
“What about the hunting part, you don’t feel guilty about killing someone?”
“I try not to think about that. It’s almost like being on stage, the adrenaline rush of hunting is
.why all the question about this?” Sav said, suddenly changing the subject.
“I’m seriously considering it.” Phil said looking down at his hands.
“You should give it a lot of thought, Phil. Weight all the options before you make any decisions, not to mention you’re a vegetarian. I don’t think you could kill anything, but that is part of our nature, at some point you will have to. Could you do that?”
“If I had to.” Phil said.
“And the guilt of doing it, would kill you in the end.” Sav told him. “I have a question for you? Who were you thinking about asking to do it?”
Phil fidgeted a moment before answering. “You.”
Sav looked away from him and played with the knobs on the console.
“Would you, if I some day asked you too.”
“I…I don’t know, maybe.” Sav replied.
“Then I’ll think long and hard about it.” Phil said.
Fleur came rushing in the room. “I’m sorry, did I interrupt something?”
“No, I think were done.” Phil said glancing at Sav.
“Actually we need to get the demo’s down for the last track.” Sav remind him.
“Can’t you do that later?” Fleur asked.
“No we can’t, we have a deadline to meet. And we’ve waited long enough.” Sav told her. “What do you want Fleur?”
“It’s Nick, he’s asking for you.”
“And.” Sav sarcastically shot back.
“He’s needs your help, he’s in pain and I ….” She was on the verge of tears when Sav cut her off.
“What do you want me to do about it?”
“Let him take from you to help him….”
“No.” Sav quickly replied.
“You would let him…”
“Let him take yours.”
“He won’t take mine.” Fleur quickly told him.
“Then I guess he's shit out of luck.” Sav hatefully replied.
“You did this to him, you should help him to get well.”
“I will not!” Sav yelled and abruptly stood up. “That is child’s play compared to what I have endured with him for the last four years. Would you like to know what it was like for me in that time Fleur?”
Fleur backed up from his anger. Phil placed a hand on his shoulder to calm him down.
“If you knew any of it, then you would understand why I won’t do it.”
“No, what I can’t understand is, why you would let him be in this much pain and not care.”
“He’s not in that much pain, he’s wound is gone right?”
“Yes, but he’s still in pain.”
“Tuff luck.” Sav said shrugging his shoulders.
“You must care about him Rick or you wouldn’t still be here.”
“Like I had a choice in that.” Sav shot back.
“Every one has choices.”
“Well I must have missed out in the line were Nick is concerned, he never gave me a choice.”
“So you’re not going to help him?”
“You know what Fleur….it will be most enjoyable to watch him suffer, because I missed it last time. I was to busy trying to get away from him and surviving my own wounds after he severely beat me to the point were I was almost dead for good.”
“Rick please, he’s my brother.” Fleur said choking back a sob.
“And everyone in this house is my brother, but that didn’t stop him from threatening their lives and continues do so.”
“I will never forgive you for this.” Fleur said.
“Then we’re even.” Sav told her dryly.
Tears cascaded down her face. Stifling a sob, she ran from the room.
Sav grumbled to himself and sat back in the chair.
“I guess you don’t want to hear my side of this.”
“Nope.” Was all he said. “Just be sure you have thought it through before you come and ask me that. I don’t want you to regret your decision once it’s done, you can’t go back and change it.”
“I will.” Phil told him.
“Hey guys.” Vivian said as he came in. “Anybody up for a game of football.”
“Now that...is the best idea I’ve heard in a long time.” Sav replied.
“It’s dark outside.” Phil said.
“I can see just fine.” Sav told him.
“Ok, one against four. You being the one Sav.” Vivian told him.
“Now that wouldn’t be fair, besides there are floodlights outside. Joe and I against the three of you.”
“As long as you don’t do a repeat from the other day in the kitchen.” Phil began to laugh and Vivian chuckled.
“Just have to be sure we don’t play tackle football.” Sav smiled suggestively.
***
Rick was kicking the ball down to their goal, when he felt a soft breeze brush by him, and then the ball was gone. Looking all around, he saw Sav standing down at their goal tossing it around with his feet.
“Hey come on Sav, you can’t be doing that speedy Gonzales shit!” Rick yelled.
“Why not? Its not in the rule book about how fast you can go!”
“Well it is in this game!” He yelled back.
“Sorry, I won’t do it again.” Sav told him, he kicked the ball back to him. Rick had to wait until Phil could stop laughing at the scene of him standing there looking for the ball before they started playing again.
Rick started the ball rolling and Sav came out of nowhere to try and take it from him. Rick stuck out his foot, Sav tripped over it, sending him to the ground, rolling over to his back he called out.
“No tripping either!”
Phil jogged by him laughing. “That slowed you down didn’t it? You have a big advantage on us.”
“And I’ll try no to use it.” He called back and sprang to his feet.
Before he could catch up under normal speed, they had made the goal and Vivian was jumping around.
“Yes 5 to 4.” He yelled.
“Not for long.” Sav told him after he caught the ball as Phil threw it out. He flew over to his and Joe’s goal and threw it in and yelled. “5 to 5.”
“You can’t do that, that’s cheating!” Phil yelled.
“No flying either Sav.” Rick called out.
“There’s no rule against flying.”
Joe was doubled over in laughter.
Sav kicked the ball and took off after it. Coming to a skidding halt at the other end, he looked over at them as he waited for the ball to get there.
“I can play this game by myself, and leave you guys in the dust.” The last word was highly emphasized as he kicked the ball back to the other side and took off after it again.
“Hey Sav maybe you shouldn’t play at all!” Rick yelled out to him.
Sav suddenly stopped in front of him and handed him the ball. “Sorry, I’ll behave now.” He chuckled.
“That last point doesn’t count, you touched the ball.”
“Score is still 5 to 4.” Rick said.
Rick tossed the ball to Phil and they kicked it back and forth between the three of them, while Sav played nice and tried to take it. He saw Joe standing off to the side watching.
He stopped and looked at him. “You could help you know.”
“No….no that’s ok, you’re doing fine by yourself.” Joe replied.
“5 to 5” Phil shouted.
Sav and Joe looked down the field.
“Now look, they scored again.” Joe said.
“They wouldn’t have if you were helping, instead of standing over there drooling.”
“I wasn’t drooling.” Joe scolded him. “It’s sweat.”
"Sweat from what?" Sav yelled as he held out his arms, "You aren't doing anything to sweat."
Joe stalked over to him and shook his head, droplets of sweat rained over Sav. "See, sweat."
“It’s your ball.” Rick called out to them.
“You can use my tongue as a towel.” Sav replied suggestively.
“Now who’s drooling.” Joe rolled his eyes with a laugh and went by him, just as Sav lunged for him, “Put your tongue back in your mouth and let’s tie this game.”
“Just a little taste Joe.” Sav said and trotted up next to him.
“No, now get the ball!”
“Uuuuggg, fine make me suffer.” Sav jogged over and kicked the ball down the field.
Rick, Viv, and Sav were in a kicking match and Phil headed further down the field.
Joe was yelling at Sav to get the ball away from them.
“Lost your touch there Sav?” Viv said, kicking the ball to Rick.
“No way, just playing fair that’s all.”
“Yeah, Joe knows about your touch.” Rick said and kicked the ball to Viv who went faster down the field.
Sav came up behind Rick and grabbed his ass with both hands. “Na…this is just foreplay.”
“Hey!” Rick said and jumped away.
Sav was giggling as he went after Vivian and got the ball from him. He went by Joe who was bent over laughing at Rick. “Come on Joe, shake a leg and get down there to block.”
Joe pulled himself up and went ahead of Sav to block the others when they all rushed Sav to get the ball. He kicked it hard straight for the goal.
“Tied game.” Joe yelled as the ball went into the goal.
“How can you do that and not even be breathing hard?” Vivian asked as he caught his breath.
Sav shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know, never thought about it I guess, but it does make me hungry.”
“Your dinner is over there.” Rick commented, pointing to Joe.
Sav glanced over to Joe. “Not tonight. I’ll have to settle for the bottle.”
“Hey guys are we going to play or not!” Joe yelled.
“After you tie Sav to the pole so he can’t play.” Rick stuck his tongue out at him.
“Score is tied color:#000080">5 to 5color:#000080">.” Vivian reminded them.
color:#000080">They played for hours, loosing all track of time as they enjoyed the game. None of them could remember having such a good time in a while. Not even the Foundation Ball compared to this.
color:#000080">Vivian flopped down in the middle of the field on his back. “Ok I’m beat, no more playing!” He called out.
color:#000080">Phil and Rick joined him shortly and lay on the grass also.
color:#000080">“I can’t figure out where I got the energy to play for this long.” Rick said between breaths.
color:#000080">“Me too.” Vivian put in.
color:#000080">“Probably from watching Sav run around and not feeling any of it. He’s not even winded.” Phil remarked.
color:#000080">“Must be nice.” Rick said.
color:#000080">Sav flopped down with them. “Damn, I hungry.” he commented looking around at everyone. “Too many good smells around here.”
color:#000080">“Sav, go drool some where else.” Rick joked.
color:#000080">Joe handed him a bottle and sat on the grass beside him.
color:#000080">“Thanks Joe.” Sav smiled up at him, taking the bottle.
color:#000080">“Didn’t I read some where, that there was a meteor shower tonight?” Phil asked.
color:#000080">“I don’t know, did you.” Rick said.
color:#000080">“I think I did, but with the lights on, we can’t see.”
color:#000080">Sav bolted to his feet and was gone before any one realized he was. The lights went out and threw them into the darkness.
color:#000080">“That better?” Sav asked when he came out.
color:#000080">“I’ll let you know when my eyes adjust.” Phil said.
color:#000080">Silence filled the darkness as they all watched the sky.
color:#000080">“I can’t ever remembering seeing this many stars before.” Vivian gazed up at the star field above them, taken aback of of many there actually where.
color:#000080">“I don’t ever remember laying out here and looking up like this.” Phil said.
color:#000080">“I do on occasions, but not with all of you.” Joe told them.
color:#000080">“I do it all the time.” Sav put in.
color:#000080">“We sound like the Walton’s.” Vivian commented.
color:#000080">“Na, they say goodnight John boy.” Phil chuckled.
color:#000080">“Goodnight grandpa.” Rick chimed in.
color:#000080">A fit of laughter echoed across the field.
color:#000080">“Well,” Sav sighed as he reluctantly pushed himself to his feet. “I can’t stay and enjoy it with you tonight.”
color:#000080">“Why not?” Rick asked.
color:#000080">“The sun will be up shortly.”
color:#000080">“Your kidding. We were out here playing all night?” Vivian exclaimed.
color:#000080">“Yeah and it was definitely fun, we’ll have to do it again.” Joe said.
color:#000080">Silence filled the night as they watched the meteors shoot by. It was good to be together and nothing bothering them. Just some quiet, quality time together is what they needed. All to soon Sav had to leave them as the sun graced the dark morning sky, he cut it as close as he could and was still able to get back to the house before he was burned.
color:#000080">Everyone followed him shortly, not having slept that night, dragging their tired bodies toward the house as they tossed the ball between them.
