Rebecca hated wedding planning lately. Mostly because it always ended in an argument and hurt feelings. Either Ivy was wanting to do something similar to whatever Becca thought sounded nice, or it was a supposedly horrid idea. And thus, Becca had started to ask a lot of Cat’s opinion. She hated pulling Cat away from her own life, but then again, Cat never seemed to mind, in fact quite the opposite. She had already worn out Patrick with asking his opinion, even snapping a few times at him, to her chagrin. But he was always back after giving her enough time to calm down, ready and willing to do whatever she asked ... well, to some extent at least.
“Perhaps pushing the wedding back wasn’t the best idea. I don’t want to sound so childish and hateful, but Cat, this sudden wedding has been out-trumping every attempt I have had at sorting out my own issues. ... God, I hate having to complain to you when you should be enjoying your time with Ryan, getting used to being married.”
Becca felt on the verge of tears as she paced back and forth in her room, having had another blow up with Ivy over wedding issues. Lately Ivy had gotten more moody, and Becca knew that it was a normal thing with pregnant women, but the stress was starting to get to her. Just the other day she had gotten a doctor’s appointment to get something to help her sleep at night, as she hadn’t slept a decent night’s sleep since before all the wedding chaos had started.
“Becca, I don’t want to hear any more of your apologies. I’ve told you before, it doesn’t matter that I just got married. I’m still your friend, so I’m here for you. And I hate that your own wedding experience is seeming to be such a trouble. But you know how life works sometimes.”
She sighed with a nod, even though her friend couldn’t see her. “Yeah, I know. Um, Cat, are you doing anything today? Or would you feel up to going shopping, just to get away from things for a little while?”
“Sorry, doll. I promised Ivy that I would meet her for dress alterations again with Viv. Also I was going to see if she needed any help with your designs. You can drop by the boutique if you want.”
“No that’s okay. I might just see what Spence is doing. Or at the very least I’ll just go into town on my own for a while to walk around and clear my mind a little.”
Becca tried to keep her voice from letting her disappointment show, but somehow knew that Cat would be able to see through her little ploy, as the two had gotten to be rather close over the time. She could hear Cat’s worry in the way she took a deep breath before speaking.
“Listen, Becca, don’t worry about things. I’m sorry that I can’t take you out today. Perhaps tomorrow?”
“Mom is making me and Patrick go with her to visit family.”
“Then indefinite raincheck. I promise. But I should get going before I’m late. Ciao darling.”
“Bye Cat.”
Becca closed her cell and climbed up on her bed, curling up on her side. She hated feeling so hateful and childish, or worse the clingy feeling with her friends and ideas. But of course, it never mattered how she wanted to feel, it was just fate. Twisted fate for her right now. She jumped at the sound of someone knocking on her door.
“Come in, but only if you’re friendly.”
“And what’s that supposed to mean, Beckanne? I was just coming to see if you could help pick out the vegetarian and vegan dishes. Ivy’s been so tore up with the morning sickness that she’s making me handle food mentions. And I don’t have the slightest idea what you people eat. Brendon and Spencer are on a day out together, so I’m asking you.”
Becca rolled over, facing away from Pete, not feeling like doing wedding planning or seeing her brother at the moment. “What about Andy?”
“He’s out with his mom. Something about her birthday or such. Please, Beccas? I’m asking you nicely. And you know that’s as far as I go.”
“Pete, just let me get over the headache and I’ll see about it, okay?” Becca bit down on her finger to keep from saying something she would regret, or worse, cry.
Pete sighed, knowing that Ivy expected the catering problems to be finished up, well, last week. “Beckanne, please just come down and name off a few dishes. I was sorta supposed to have this sorted out last week. Ivy is going to have my head on a platter if I don’t get it settled.”
Becca spun around giving her brother a glare that would have frozen a fire. “Peter, it is not my fault that you are a lazy ass procrastinator. So if you would please, get out of my room so I can try to get this headache to leave. If I can get to feeling better, I might come down and help. But like I said, ‘might’ is the key word in that offer.”
“Are you sure you’re not pregnant too? God, you’re almost as moody as Ivy. Maybe I should have a little heart-to-heart with Patrick on this. At the very least you may need to just get some release with a good tumble.”
“OUT!!”
Becca screamed, pointing furiously to the door, past all point of civility with her brother. He gave a huffy sort of grunt before turning and heading back downstairs, muttering under his breath, obviously nothing flattering. She walked over and shut her door, locking it before heading back over to her bed and curling up again, this time sobbing openly into her pillow.
Becca frowned as she could hear Pete stomping around downstairs in the kitchen, no doubt making something else for him to eat. It seemed that the only thing he ever did was eat sometimes. She pulled her carnival bear to her side and slowly felt herself calming down, eventually falling off to sleep. Although even that didn’t last long, as the worry and stress played havoc with the few dreams she managed in the impromptu nap.
