"Oh, I’m turning over will,
And I’m cleaning up this holy mess I made.
I want to feel your arms around me.
I want to know your love is real.
I want to give you all you’ve given to me,
But I’m still afraid."

Kelly immediately relaxed as she slid in bed, right behind Carrie. She had asked Jason to drop them off at the country singer's house, knowing that she wouldn't be able to sleep without the other blonde next to her. She wrapped an arm around Carrie's waist, pulling their bodies close as she rested their cheeks together. She felt her smile softly.
"How you doing?" Carrie asked, placing her arm over Kelly's, pulling them closer together.
"I'm ok," she nodded.
"I heard what you said to her in the car today."
"I thought y'all were sleeping," she admitted, embarrassed.
"It's ok," Carrie replied. "I thought it was really sweet. I'm glad you finally talked to her about it."
"Did I tell you what Alex taught me yesterday?" Kelly smiled, thinking of those big green eyes she loved to see light up.
"How to walk without tripping?" Carrie teased, happy to hear her smile.
"Shut up," Kelly laughed. "No, she taught me that you can have more than one best friend."
"Ahh," Carrie nodded.
"So, I guess that answers my question from a while back then...you're my best friend."
She felt Carrie shift in her arms slightly, turning to look up at her. She noted the slight hurt in her eyes.
"Is that what we are?" Carrie asked, carefully.
Kelly frowned, pushing herself up on her arms, allowing Carrie to fully turn onto her back, beneath her, "Care, I...I'm trying, ok? But I am just as lost and confused about all of this as you are."
Carrie nodded, looking down.
"Talk to me?" Kelly repeated the request that Carrie had so often used on her, as she lowered herself down onto her forearms, their bodies falling together.
"I've just...I've been trying so hard to be patient with you, because I know you are going through so much crap right now, it's unbelievable, and you know I would wait for you for as long as you need to get your head straight. But I guess, I just realized, even if you figured out where we stood, and what you wanted, I still have no clue."
Kelly nodded, patiently waiting for her to continue.
"You know I think the world of you, and you mean so much to me," Carrie smiled. "And you were right, you are my best friend. I'm sorry if I made you doubt that, even for a second."
Kelly smiled back, "It's alright."
"But, the way I feel about you sometimes...this," she motioned to their two bodies pressed together. "The-the things we've done? I honestly, don't know how to even begin to process all of it."
"Me either," Kelly admitted.
Carrie felt herself relax a bit as Kelly finally gave her some insight to what she was thinking, however small it was, and the fact that they were on the same page, made it so much easier.
"I know I should be having doubts about it," Carrie said thoughtfully. "Like, along the whole, this is wrong thing, about us being..."
Kelly nodded again, knowing she was referring to the fact that neither of them were a guy.
"But I...I don't. I don't know why, but I don't. Do I think the way we've gone about it all is wrong? Yea. Will I walk away the next time we get a chance to be together? No. I can't help the fact that you can make me want you...so bad sometimes, that I can honestly care less about the consequences."
"Sorry," Kelly offered.
"Don't apologize," Carrie laughed softly, rubbing a hand up and down the Texan's back. "Well...ok, I guess I was wrong."
"You want me to apologize again?"
"No, earlier, when I said when you figured it out, it didn't mean I would have it figured out. Actually, I think that's exactly what it would mean."
"How so?"
"The first time...we were drunk, right? And then last two times, we were both hurting over Alex, you so much more than me, plus you had just found out about Graham like a week before, and I--"
"You didn't take advantage of me," Kelly cut in, knowing exactly where she was going with it all.
"Kell...you can't say that for sure."
"No, Care, I can. I promise I can," she said firmly, her hand grazing the country singer's shoulder affectionately. "I swear to you that you did not once take advantage of me, ok? I was there too. It was just as much me as it was you, so don't think otherwise, alright?"
Carrie nodded, still not quite convinced, but willing to drop the subject.
"Care...you know I love you to death, right?" Kelly asked.
Carrie nodded again, smiling softly.
"And you really are my best friend."
"I know," she replied, wrapping both arms around her, holding her tightly.
"I never meant for that to come out in a negative way."
"I know," Carrie assured her. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be," she shook her head. "I probably would've reacted the same way. Just...just never forget those two things, ok? No matter what, I promise those two thing will always ring true, ok?"
"Yea," Carrie nodded, smiling softly as Kelly brought a hand up, wiping a tear off her cheek for her.
Kelly leaned down, kissing her as gently as she could, feeling as if her heart were sighing out of relief at the contact. She pulled back, both of them sharing another small smile as their eyes met before she laid down completely, snuggling into the body beneath her.
"You too," she heard Carrie whisper softly as she kissed the top of her head, feeling guilty for having brought it up when Kelly was dealing with so many other things, but relieved to hear her last assurances.
