"A long night spent with your most obvious weakness,
You start shaking at the thought:
You are everything I want,
'Cause you are everything I'm not."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Carrie pulled her car into her driveway, parking in the garage. She looked over at Kelly who was sitting there silently, Mr. Bear resting in her lap. She reached over, tucking a curl behind the Texan's ear, "You ok?"
"Yea," she offered a soft smile.
"Ok," Carrie nodded, turning off the car, both of them getting out and walking to the door that Carrie unlocked.
"I gotta use the restroom," Kelly announced, placing the teddy bear on the coffee table in the living room.
"Alright, well, you know where it is," Carrie replied. "I'll get us something to drink and find a movie, ok?"
Kelly nodded before walking to the hall.
Carrie's eyes followed her curiously. Something had changed in her demeanor. Not necessarily bad, just different. She shrugged it off as she walked to the kitchen. She grabbed a bottle of white wine and two glasses, bringing them into the living room, pouring them each a small glass before finding a dvd for them to watch. She found a funny one, knowing Kelly wouldn't be in the mood for anything sad and put it in the dvd player. She sat down on the couch, taking a sip from the glass she had poured herself, before setting it back down on the table.
Carrie looked up as Kelly walked back into the living room, watching as Kelly walked to her, settling onto her lap, facing her.
Carrie smiled gently, wrapping her arms around her, "Hey."
"Hi," Kelly smiled back softly. "Alex got me a gift," she commented, showing her the bracelet on her wrist.
"It's beautiful Kell," Carrie replied, looking at it.
"Yea, it really is," she nodded. "Alex was so proud when she told me she bought it herself."
Carrie looked up, meeting her eye.
"Now, I didn't want to say anything in front of her of course, but I couldn't help but wonder how she could've ever afforded it."
"Maybe it's one of those you get out of the 25 cent machine," Carrie offered.
Kelly's smile grew, "Does it look like it?"
"No," she admitted.
"Care..."
"She wanted to get you something nice," Carrie shrugged. "She saw it when we went pick up those earrings for your mom, and she loved it. She did pay for some of it."
Kelly raised an eyebrow.
"The tax."
Kelly felt her heart melt. She raised her hands up, brushing Carrie's hair out of her face, cradling her head as she leaned forward, kissing her softly.
Carrie sighed, relaxing into the touch, her lips moving in slow, perfect harmony with the Texan's. She had never kissed someone who moved so well with her. It's like Kelly could read her mind, knowing each tilt of her head, catch of her breath, tease from her tongue, before they even happened. Honestly, from just looking at her, you knew she had to be a good kisser. Her lips were just naturally kissable lips. She had also never met anybody that felt so good. Her lips were so soft, and every increase or decrease of pressure from them, no matter how small, sent her swooning.
She felt Kelly slowly pulling away--something else she was really good at. Carrie smiled as Kelly rested their foreheads together.
"Thank you," she whispered. "It really meant a lot to Alex."
"You opened your house to her and have given her everything you can," Carrie replied, her hands smoothing over the shorter singer's back. "I just wanted to do something for her too."
"Even if she doesn't know you did it?"
Carrie just shrugged.
Kelly ran a thumb over her cheek before framing her face with her hand. "Thank you," she repeated.
Carrie nodded as Kelly wrapped her arms around her neck, hugging her tightly. "Come here," she smiled, scooting them over to the corner of the sofa so she could get comfortable. She held onto to the Texan with one arm while she reached out, combining the two glasses of wine and picked it up.
"What's this?" Kelly asked, taking a sip.
"I figured you could use something to help you sleep."
Kelly nodded, "I've had this before."
"Yea," Carrie laughed softly. "At the banquet."
"It's good," Kelly smiled, handing her the glass to take a sip.
"I know, that's why I got it."
Kelly laughed, snuggling into her, facing the television, "So what are we watching?"
"It's uh--"
"Oh, I love this movie," Kelly cut her off, her eyes lighting up as the opening credits played. She took another sip of wine, handing the glass back to Carrie who took one last sip before placing it back on the table. She kissed the top of Kelly's head, wrapping an arm around her snugly. She raised her other hand, tilting Kelly's face up to kiss her again.
Kelly felt her blood rushing at the taste of the wine still on Carrie's lips. She carefully turned onto her stomach, laying down on top of her as she felt Carrie's tongue brush against her own. She couldn't help but moan softly at the touch. She wrapped an arm around the girl beneath her, pulling her up into her as she deepened the kiss.
Carrie felt her head spinning as she ran a hand through Kelly's hair, resting it on the back of her neck as her other pressed down just below the small of the Texan's back. She was caught off guard by the rush of guilt that washed over her, causing her to pull away.
"Y-you ok?" Kelly asked breathlessly.
"We can't do this right now," Carrie replied, struggling for air herself.
"I'm not drunk," Kelly shook her head, her eyes glued to Carrie's lips. "I'm not even buzzed."
"Kell..." Carrie touched her cheek softly.
"If this is about me hurting over Alex, I'm not. I'm fine right now," Kelly replied, her eyes almost desperate.
Carrie frowned, able to see just how untrue that statement was.
"You said if the chance came up for us to be together, you wouldn't stop it," Kelly argued.
"And if you start again, I won't," Carrie replied honestly. "But I'm asking you not to."
"W-why not?" she asked smally, finally meeting her gaze.
"No, Kell," she quickly assured her. "It's nothing like that. I promise you that."
"Then what is it? I've already told you that you aren't taking advantage of me."
"Honestly?"
"Always," Kelly nodded.
"I don't want to become another Graham for you. I don't want to be his replacement," Carrie admitted, shocked by her own confession, not even realizing that's what was in the back of her mind.
"Care, you are nothing like Graham. He's an inconsiderate ass. I would never put you in the same category as him."
"Really?" Carrie asked slowly. "Why were you with him the second time around? To escape from things, am I right? Why are you with me now?"
"Because I love spending time with you and being around you. Sex or not, I just want to be near you as often as I can."
Carrie nodded.
Kelly frowned, sitting up on the other blonde's lap, "Maybe we should just cool off, ok? I'm gonna go back to my place."
"Kell, no," Carrie replied, grabbing her arm, keeping her there.
"Then what is it that you want, Carrie?" Kelly asked softly. "Cause I can't read your mind."
"I just want to know what you want."
"I don't know," she replied truthfully.
Carrie bit her lip, and Kelly nodded.
"I'm gonna go," she stood up.
"Kelly, please don't," Carrie pleaded, following her to the front door, Mr. Bear in her hand.
Kelly turned around, surprised to find the other blonde tearing up, "Care, please don't. It isn't like that, I promise."
"Then why are you leaving?"
"Because we both just need to think about some things, and we obviously can't think clearly around each other because we just get distracted," she answered gently, brushing her tears away. "I promise, everything is fine between us."
"You sure?" Carrie asked as Kelly pulled her into a hug.
"You're still my best friend," she nodded. "And I still love you to death."
"But do you have to go? I mean, we can go back to doing what we were doing if you want. I seriously don't mind. I mean, I want to. Trust me, I really want to."
"Carrie," Kelly couldn't help but laugh softly as she pulled back to look at her. "It isn't even about that, ok? You were right, what we're doing, it's not fair to you, and I need to find out what I want which is something I have to do by myself. It's only one night, don't take this so hard. I'll see you tomorrow. We've been apart longer than that before."
"But not because you were mad at me."
Kelly sighed, "I am no where close to being mad at you. If I were mad at you, I'd stay here because in the end it'll only hurt you more. Look, what time are you going see Alex tomorrow?"
"I'm not sure; when are you going?"
"I'm gonna go in the morning, but you have those meetings all day, remember?"
"Yea," Carrie nodded.
"Alright, so how about you come meet me at the hospital and after we'll go grab a bite to eat, and then we can come back here?"
"Ok."
"Ok," Kelly hugged her once more, smiling as the country singer handed her the teddy bear.
"Sorry for bringing all of this up."
"Don't be," she replied. "I'll see you tomorrow. Get some sleep."
Carrie nodded, closing the door behind her.
