Chapter 8
Josh was sitting at hi s home computer writing out his resignation. He didn’t realize how hard that would be. He’d been working as an executive in Chasez Enterprises for what seemed like forever. His father started showing him the ropes when he was sixteen. While in college he only worked during the summer, but the knowledge he had prepared him to step in as an executive as soon as he graduated. He was very good at his job and he knew it. So now here he was fired by his own father because he was gay. He loved his family but now felt that all he’d ever been was a show piece. The perfect son who would marry the perfect girl, have a few kids and take over when his dad retired. Well that charade was over and he had to start his own plan in motion.
Before he went to the office he made a call to his father’s right hand man, David Graham.
“Hello” David said
“Hi Dave, It’s Joshua. I’m sure dad let you know that I was resigning.”
“He mentioned you wanted to get out of the business. I have to say I was a little surprised.”
“Well it’s true. I am leaving, but I wanted to let you know I’ve decided to vote my own shares this time. I wont need you to act as my proxy anymore.” Josh said
“Are you sure? I always vote for the family. That doesn’t have to change because you wont be here.” David said
“No I’m sure. I wanted to let you know so that it wouldn’t come as a shock.”
“Thank you for telling me yourself. I hope you wont be a stranger around the office.”
“Oh, I plan to be around a lot.” Josh said ending the call.
{Dad thinks he can force me to conform to his wants, well I have a surprise for him.}
Justin walked into the kitchen and took the classified adds from the pile of papers on the table. Lance looked over and smiled.
“What kind of job are you looking for?” Lance asked
“I have no idea. I’m sure something will come up. I have quite a bit of money saved so I’m good for a while” Justin said
“What about Josh? What is he going to do?” Lance asked
“He’s not really talking about it. But I can tell he’s hurt that his dad’s making him leave his job.” Justin said
“Well I’m sure it will all work out.” Lance said
“I hope you’re right.” Justin said
Josh walked into his office and packed up his personal belongings. He said goodbye to Anne, his secretary and then walked to his fathers office.
“Roy” Josh said
“Joshua. I take it that’s your resignation.” he said pointing to the paper Josh had in his hand.
“Yes. I just wanted to let you know that this isn’t the end of this.” Josh said
“Of course it is. Now we’re all free to live our lives away from each other. I’ll train Tyler the same way I trained you and things will move forward.”
“You really believe that don’t you. Maybe you should check to see if that’s what Tyler wants.” Josh said
“He’ll be fine. You can leave now.” Roy said
Josh turned and walked out of his fathers office. He wouldn’t cry before he was out of the building, no matter how much he wanted to.
Justin was circling possible jobs in the paper when the phone rang. He reached over to pick it up without moving his eyes.
“Hello.” He said
“Justin” Josh said with tears in his voice
“Josh, what’s wrong? Where are you?” Justin asked concern obvious in his voice.
“I’m in the parking lot at work. God, Justin, it was so hard. I didn’t think it would be this hard.” Josh said
“I’m so sorry. Are you ok to drive? Do you need me to come and get you?” Justin asked
“No. I’ll be ok.”
“Come here when you’re done.” Justin said
“Yeah. I’ll be there in a few.” Josh said
When Josh arrived he looked tired. Justin thought it must have taken all of his energy to carry out the mornings activities. The younger man simply opened his arms and Josh fell into them with an audible sigh. Justin led him to the couch where he held him and listened to the sobs as they came. After nearly an hour Josh stilled and he just held on tighter to Justin.
“Josh are you going to be ok?” Justin asked
“Yes. In fact, thats the last of the tears I’m crying for him.” at aat are you going to do now?” Justin asked
“Now I’m going to spend time with you and then I’m going to take over my father’s company and hire my boyfriend to work with me.” Josh said
“Take over your fathers company? Josh what are you talking about?” Justin asked
“I’m going to take over. Actually I’m going to buy enough shares to be the controlling partner. My dad had fifty one percent of the company, so he gave each of us kids ten percent each and he kept the other twenty one percent. If I can get the other shares available I’ll own fifty nine percent and I’ll have controlling interest. I’ll be the one in control.”
“Oh. You sure you want to do that?”
“Yes, but it’s going to take a bit of time to do it. I’m not worried abut it just yet. For now I just want to be with you.” Josh said
“I like that idea.” Justin said kissing him.
They spent the next few hours kissing and talking before Josh headed home.
Over the next few days Justin put in several job applications. Finally he got a call back for a job working in the mailroom of a large company. The pay sucked and it would take him a week to make what usually took him a day. The first day he met Simon. His job was to show Justin the ropes. When he first arrived Simon introduced him to Jennifer, Daniel and Kim the others he would be working with. The rest of the morning was spent learning to sort the mail by floor and then by individual. Simon showed him how to fill the carts that were used to deliver and then they took a lunch break. They sat down at a table in the corner and began to eat.
“So, how long have you worked here?” Justin asked
“Only six months. It’s not so bad. You get used to it pretty quick and it’s easy money.” Simon said
“I guess.” Justin answered
“This is your first job, right?” Simon asked
“Yeah. I figured it was time to join the real word.” Justin said
“You got a girlfriend?”
“No. Actually I’m gay.” Justin said waiting for a reaction.
“That’s cool. I guess it’s good to get that out of the way. So I guess the question is, do you have a boyfriend?” Simon said with a chuckle.
“Yeah I do. We’ve just been together a short time. So it’s still pretty new.”
“Maybe we can double date sometime? My girlfriend Grace and I hang out a lot.” Simon said
“Maybe so.” Justin said.
After lunch the rest of the day was spent delivering mail from office to office. By the time Justin was off for the day he found he was a lot more exhausted than he thought he would be.
Justin called Josh on his way home to see how his day had been and the older man asked him to come over.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea? I mean I know the press is still hanging around.” Justin said
“I don’t care. Unless you do.” Josh said
“No. I’ll be there as soon as I can.” Justin said
When he finally arrived he noticed there were still cameramen and a few reporters still there. He could hear the cameras going off as he pushed the code into the gate. When he got up to the house Josh was standing in the door waiting. He walked over and followed Josh in. As soon as the door closed the older man pushed him against the door and kissed him.
“Missed you.” Josh said
“I missed you too.”
“How was the first day?” Josh asked
“Not too bad. I never realized real work would be so tiring. I do like the people I work with though. Especially Simon.”
Josh seemed to tense up when Justin said this. It took Justin a minute to figure out what was wrong.
“It’s not like that Josh, he’s straight and he even invited us to hang out with him and his girlfriend Grace. Trust me. You don’t have anything to worry about. You are the only one for me.” Justin said
“I’m sorry. I can’t believe I’m acting like this.” Josh said
“Don’t worry. I forgive you.”
“Are you going to stay over?” Josh asked
“Not tonight. Tomorrow though. ok.” Justin said
“Ok.”
The next morning Justin was running late. When he arrived at work Simon was waiting for him. He looked upset or worried and Justin wasn’t sure which it was.
“Is everything ok?” Justin asked
“I’m thinking you didn’t read the paper this morning.” Simon said handing the society page to Justin.
The young man looked at the paper and found a picture of himself at Josh’s gate. The caption under the picture said:
This unidentified young man was seen entering the estate of Joshua Chasez yesterday. Perhaps he’s the man that replaced Roberta Thomas in Chasez’s heart.
Justin kept stareing at the picture.
“Justin, man are you ok?” Simon asked
“Yeah. Can I have a minute. I need to make a phone call.” Justin said
“Take your time. We’ve got everything covered down here.”
“Thanks.”
Justin walked to the small room that had a phone and desk. He sat down and dialed Josh’s number.
“What?” Josh said when he answered the phone causing Justin to jump.
“Josh” He said in a small scared voice.
“Justin, I’m sorry. I’ve been getting a lot of reporters calling.” Josh said
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have come over yesterday.” Justin said
“It’s not your fault. Has anyone said anything to you?”
“No. I didn’t even see the paper. Simon showed me when I got in.”
“Well don’t worry about it. Go about your day as usual. I’ll be here if you need to talk. I....I love you Justin.” Josh said
“I love you too. I’ll see you later.” Justin said with a huge smile on his face.
When he got back to the mailroom everyone was working. It was quiet until Jennifer broke the silence.
“So you’re gay and dating Joshua Chasez huh?” she said
“Yeah. That’s not a problem is it?” Justin asked afraid of their answer.
“Nope. I’ll tell you this. You’re one lucky bastard. Not only is he gorgeous he’s fucking rich too.” Kim said causing them all to laugh.
Justin relaxed a bit, but in the pit of his stomach he knew things were going to get worse before tgot got better.
