LAST TIME:
He smiled and kissed her forehead. “Get some rest.”
Tai nodded. “Night.”
“Night.”
Tai slept through the rest of the night.
Chapter Eight<>
Tai opened her eyes and then promptly shut them when the sun blinded her. She buried her head in the warm naked lderlder that she was resting on. She groaned.
Marshall chuckled slightly. “Not a morning person?” He asked.
“No. And neither should you be.” Came her muffled reply.
He laughed this time and kissed the top of her head. “Come on. Get up and come with me.” He pulled her protesting body out of the warm bed and into the bathroom.
Marshall stood behind her looking in the mirror. He smiled.
“What?” Tai asked tilting her head back to look at him.
He wrapped his arms around her waist. “We look good together.”
She smiled and looked back in the mirror. h. We do.”
He let her go and opened a drawer. He pulled out two toothbrushes. One still in the package.
“Why do you have these things?” Tai asked while she opened. “And why didn’t you give this to me last night?”
“Haha. I forgot. I was just so drained. I fell right asleep as soon as I hit the pillow.” He answered putting toothpaste on the brush. Tai did the same.
When they were done they faced each other.
“Can I have a good morning kiss now?” Tai asked.
Marshall laughed again and leaned down to kiss her deeply.
They broke the kiss after a moment and walked back into the bedroom.
Tai glanced at the clock and gasped. “Shit!” It was 9:20.
“What?” He asked.
“I have practice in forty minutes!” She raced out the room and then came back in. “Where is ‘Rell?”
Marshall smiled and led her quickly down the hall to Arerell’s room.
“She should be in there. I’m gonna go and wake Haile.”
Tai nodded and then went inside.
She walked over to the bed and sat down.
“ ‘Rell.” Tai said as she shook her shoulder.
“Hmm?” Came the sleepy reply.
“We have to go to my apartment. Practice is in forty minutes.”
Arerell groaned and rolled out of bed and into the bathroom. She shut the door.
Tai stayed on the bed to wait.
“I don’t have a tooth brush!”
Tai grinned.
~~&~~
Ten minutes later they were at the front door. Marshall and Curtis saying goodbye.
“Are you sure they can stay here?” Tai was talking about the dogs.
Marshall rolled his eyes. “Yes. They can stay. You go on. We’ll be up there in a bit. I promised I’d take Haile to the park and there is one where you practice.” He kissed her.
“Ok. Bye. I’ll see you later guys.” Tai called as she went out the door.
“Ta, fellas!” Arerell waved as she went down the porch steps.
Tai and Arerell got in the car and Tai pulled out of the driveway.
“Man you got it bad.” Curtis said clapping Marshall on the back.
“Ha! And you don’t?” Marshall said with a laugh.
~~&~~
Arerell and Tai entered the apartment with thirty minutes to spare.
“Ok, you can just wear something of mine then. You said you put your ball stuff in my trunk arsharshall’s right?” Tai double-checked.
“Yeah, I did it last night after we talked about going to practice.” Arerell answered as they changed out of their clothes from the day before.
“Here. Wear these.” Tai said. She gave Arerell sliding shorts, black mesh shorts, ball socks, white sports bra, and a team tee shirt. Tai wore the same except her shorts were blue.
They pulled their hair up into messy buns and then went out the door.
Tai put her ball bag in the trunk next to Arerell’s catching gear.
She jumped into the driver’s seat and pulled the door down. “Ready?” She asked.
Arerell nodded. “Let’s go.”
~~&~~
They reached the ballpark with five minutes to spare.
“You were almost late Tai.” Coach Luu said as Tai rounded the dugout and went out onto the field.
“Yeah, but I think you’ll forgive me.” Tai said.
“And why is that?” Her coach asked.
“Because I brought someone who wants to tryout.”
“Oh, Tai, you know the team is saving the last spot for ‘Rell.” The coach shook her head.
“Well, wait no longer because she’s back!” Tai said with a large smile.
Arerell came up behind Tai. “Hey coach.”
“Arerell!” She hugged her. “Oh, it’s so good to have you back! How was England?”
“Going back home was wonderful.” Arerell said with a grin.
“Well, as soon as practice is over, I want to hear all about it.” She clapped her hands. “All right team, It tot to welcome back our star catcher Arerell. She’s here to stay I hope.” Arerell nodded. “Ok. Lets stretch ladies. Captains you know what to do.”
The team walked to the outfield and got in a circle. In the middle was one of the pitchers—Bell. They were waiting for Tai and Arerell to join them.
“Coach. Um, in a little bit ‘Rell and I are going to have a few spectators that might cause a scene with the team if they are fans.” Tai bit her lip.
“Someone famous is coming?” pan>
Tai nodded.
“Well, are you gonna tell me or is it a surprise?” Coaskedsked with a smile. Tai was always bing ing people that came to her restaurant to their games and practices.
“Well, I met him at our game yesterday…he was there for that last out.”
“Is he that guy that was over in leftfield?”
“Yeah, that’s the one. His name is Marshall Mathers.”
“That rapper?” Coach asked.
“Yeah, and Fifty Cent will be here…most likely some of the guys from D-12 too.” She waved her hands. “I just wanted to warn you is all. They should be here anytime.”
“Yeah, ok. I’ll keep an eye out for them. Now you two go out there and get to work.” They took off at a jog to the rest of the team. “I hope you’ve been keeping in shape ‘Rell!”
The girls laughed when Arerell turned around and told the coach to “bugger off”.
~~&~~
Marshall, Curtis, and Haile reached the ball field about five minutes after 10:00.
He parked his black VW GTI in a spot near the back. He noticed that Tai parked in the back as well. They got out and walked towards the field. Asy way walked by he saw the team stretching in a circle. Tai was in the middle with another girl.
Proof had left the house after they did to go and meet up with D-12. They already had plans for that day.
“Daddy can I go play at the park now?” Haile asked.
&;
“In a few minutes Haile and I’ll take you over there ok?”
She nodded.
They reached the bleachers and sat in the middle. Marshall saw a lady in here late thirties turn around and greet them.
“You must be Tai’s friends.” "> She walked off the field and over to the bleachers to shake their hands. “I’m Coach Luu.”
“Marshall.”
“Curtis.”
“I’m Haile.”
Coach Luu looked down at the little girl and gave her a smile. “Well it’s nice to meet you Miss Haile.”
Haile giggled. “I came to play at the park and watch Tai play. Is she gonna play today?”
“Well, you’re in luck little girl. We’re gonna have a scrimmage today. One of the other teams is coming. They the they have a new strategy that they wanted to try against us.” She said that last part to Marshall and Curtis. “It’s always something with that team.” Coach looked back at Haile. “So, you’ll get to see Tai pitch some.” She looked over at the team. They were jogging around the track now. “And I think I’m gonna have ‘Rell catch her.”
Haile gasped. “Tai’s gonna fall?!”
The three adults laughed.
“No baby. She means that Arerell is gonna catch for Tai.” Marshall said as he pulled Haile onto his lap.
“Oh. Ok.”
The team arrived then. Tai and Arerell in the front. They were all slightly out of breath. None of the girls had noticed them yet.
“It seems someone is out of shape.” Marshall said.
Tai whirled around. “I’ll have you know that I’m in perfect shape, thank you very much.”
Marshall grinned at her.
“Now ‘Rell on the other hand…”
“Oi! I kept up with ya didn’t I?”
The rest of the girls were watching in rapt attention. It seemed to them that Tai and Arerell were friends with two of the most famous men in the music industry today.
Tai looked at Haile. “My sister is going to be here when our scrimmage starts. You two can go over to the park and play if you want.” She looked at Marshall. “Her nanny can watch the two of them, if that’s ok?”
Marshall nodded.
“Ok.” Haile smiled.
“Alright ladies. Let’s get a little practice in before the other team gets here.” She looked at Tai and Arerell. “Tai I want you to warm up over there with ‘Rell.” They nodded and went into the dugout to get their stuff.
They walked off the field.
“Come on…you guys can see us in action.” Tai said.
“That sounds like fun.” Marshall said as he jumped down off the bleachers.
The team led.
Tai looked at him. “You are just asking for it you know.”
“That sounds fun too.”
Tai hit him on the arm.
~~&~~
Marshall, Curtis and Haile were sitting on the blue painted bench outside the fenced in area that Tai and Arerell were in.
Tai and Arerell started off throwing the ball around to loosen their arms. Then Tai did some underhanded pitching drills to warm up. After twenty minutes Tai moved back to the pitching rubber.
“You ready?” Arerell called; she had her gear on and mask in hand.
“Yeah, I’m gonna throw a few slow ones first.”
“I know your routine Tai. I haven’t been gone that long.” Arerell said with a smile. She pulled the mask down over her face and got into position.
Tai got set and then went in the windmill motion and threw a practice throw.
She threw a few more before she was ready.
“Ok.” Tai said.
The next pitch she threw with all her strength.
“A little off!” Arerell called. It was a little outside.
Tai nodded and the next one was right on the outside corner.
After a few more fastballs she started on the change ups.
Tai thought for a minute before walking to her catcher.
Arerell lifted her mask so it rested on her head. “What’s up?”
“I’ve got a new change up. So be ready. It’s coming before it should.”
Arerell thought about it for a second, “Oh, yeah, I kwhatwhat you’re talking about. Yeah, go for it. Have you got them down or is this just practice?”
“No, I’ve got it.” She jogged back to the mound and got set.
This time when she went in her windup she released the ball before she went full circle.
After Arerell caught it she stood with a grin. “That was nice. I like those.”
~~&~~
“Damn, you’re girl’s got an arm on her.” Curtis said quietly.
Marshall just gave a proud grin.
“She one of the fastest in the league.”
They turned at the coach’s voice.
“Really? How fast does she throw?” Marshall asked.
Coach Luokedoked at her star pitcher. “It’s up in the seventies on good days. Bad days mid sixties.”
Curtis whistled.
“Yeah, she’s got all the pitches too. Are you ready Tai?”
“Yeah. I’m done.” Tai said.

The coach nodded, “Alright. ‘Rell, I want you out here to do some throw downs.” She left when Arerell nodded.
Tai and Arerell walked out of the warm up area and started back towards the field.
“So what did you think?” Tai asked as she stood before Marshall. Curtis and Haile walked Arerell backthe the field.
“I’m impressed.” Marshall said. “You’re pretty good.”
Tai gave him a wide smile. “Thanks.” She looked over to see Arerell getting behind the plate. “Come on, I want you to see the arm she’s got. She can even throw me out.”
They walked over to the bleachers and Marshall sat down again while Tai went in the dugout for some water.
“Tai get out here and throw one to her.” Coach called.
Tai ran out to the mound and threw a slow one. She had to save her arm.
Arerell caught it and threw a rocket to second base.
~~&~~
“She’s got an arm on her too.” Marshall said to Curtis.
Curtis just smirked.
~~&~~
After an hour of light practice the other team showed up and Tai’s team walked into the dugout to give them a chance to practice.
After grabbing some water Tai and Arerell walked over to where Marshall and Curtis were sitting. Haile was down drawing in the sand.
“So, what do you think of the team?” Tai asked.
“Well now that I’ve seen them play, and not you know, just one out…I’d have to say that you guys are pretty good.” He grinned and leaned back against the metal seat behind him.
Tai grinned.
He held out his hand and pulled her toward him for a light kiss.
“What was that for?” Tai asked.
“Just giving your friends something to talk about.” He whispered in her ear.
Tai laughed and glanced behind her. Sure enough, some of the girls were looking their way giggling.
~~&~~
They only played for an hour, instead of the regular hour and a half. Tai’s team won four to zero.
Tai almost pitched a perfect game, but she had a couple bad pitches near the end. She was a little frustrated.
~~&~~
Tai’s older brother, the nanny, and Tai’s ten-year-old sister were sitting with Marshall, Curtis, and Haile waiting for Tai and Arerell to come out of the dugout. Everyone else had gone, so they were the only ones left.
Marshall got off the bleachers and walked into the dugout. Inside he saw Arerell slowly rotating Tai’s right shoulder.
“What happened?”
They looked quickly in his direction.
“Nothing. I always work out my arm after I pitch.” Tai said.
Marshall nodded. “Are you guys hungry?” It was almost one.
They nodded.
“Do you wanna get some lunch then?” He asked with a grin.
They nodded again.
Marshall laughed. “Well, come on then.”
Tai grinned, “You wanna drive?”
“Really?” He was stunned.
“Yeah.” Tai dug the keys out of her bag and gave them to Marshall. She looked at her best friend, “You don’t mind riding with Curtis do you?”
Arerell raised a brow, “What are you off your rocker?” She scoffed as she exited the dugout. “Why would I mind?”
Marshall and Tai laughed. Tai bent down and picked up her ballbag and put it on her left shoulder.
“You got that?” Marshall asked.
“Yeah. Besides,” She looked him up and down. He was wearing baggy white mesh shorts, and a faded white shirt. “Wouldn’t want you to get dirty.”
He rolled his eyes and they went to say goodbye to her brother and sister.
~~&~~
They stopped at Tai’s apartment before lunch so she could run in and get her ice pack for her arm. Then they went to Subway, for something quick and easy.
~~&~~
After signing a few autographs for some of the guys making the subs they all sat down to eat. Curtis and Arerell sat—at the table for two—right next to the big booth where Marshall sat across from Haile and Tai.
“So how long you gotta wear that for?” Marshall asked as he finished up his sub.
“About five more minutes.” Tai replied, she took a sip of her soda.
“It looks funny.” Haile said with a laugh.
Tai looked down at it and grinned. “Yeah, I guess it does huh?”
~~&~~
They were outside at the two cars. Tai was unwrapping her arm. She squatted down next to Haile.
“Feel my arm.” She said with a grin.
Haile placed her hand on Tai’s shoulder and then removed it with a squeal. “It’s cold!” She exclaimed with a smile.
Tai and the others laughed.
“It should be. I had ice on it for thirty minutes!”
They stood there chatting for a few more minutes when Curtis notice something behind Marshall shoulder. “Fuck.”
They all looked at him.
“What?” Marshall asked.
Curtis nodded his head in Marshall’s direction and they all turned to look.
Over on the corner were a few photographers.
Marshall rolled his eyes and then looked over to Tai and Arerell. “Looks like you both are going to be famous come tomorrow.”
Tai and Arerell looked at each other and laughed.
“Marshall honey, we’re already are famous…in the art industry anyhow.”
