Now that was a quick update wasn't it...;-) By the way, I'm sorry for all the weird spacing in my stories, but for some reason my computer won't let me upload the files and when I paste it, it just looks like this in the end...Sorry again!
Chapter Eight
“I’ve had it, Jamie, that’s it.” Katie was surprised how calm she sounded. She had always told him, one last chance, one more drink. That was it. He knelt in front of her,
crying. Of course he was drunk. She shivered. Nobody had ever prepared her for this. Nobody had ever told her it was gonna be that hard.
She could hear her sister, speaking to her baby, trying to calm it down.
“Please, Katie, don’t leave me hanging here. I need you; I swear this was the last time. I can’t make it without you, please…” He kept on begging. A tear fell from her
eye, but she shook her head. She had loved this man dearly, but this wasn’t the Jamie she had once fallen in love with. This was a drunkard, nothing more. And she
knew she wouldn’t help him, if she stayed with him, and she definitely wouldn’t help herself. She only made it harder for him and herself.
Every inch of her skin felt like it was burning, every muscle ached. There was a lump in her throat which prevented her from speaking. All she could do was shake her
head, before she closed the door in front of him one last time.
Even though the door was in between them, she could still hear his sobs, mixing with her own. She leaned against the door and sank to the floor.
When did it all go wrong? When had it started? Tears were flowing down her cheeks freely. Their love had been so strong. When had it stopped? She longed for his arms
to comfort her, longed for his soothing words, but nothing came. He banged against the door now and screamed out her name. Katie crawled away from it and lay down
on the floor. Anna sat down beside her and hugged her. She gently stroked her hair and tried to make her get up and away from the door. Katie shivered, but let her
sister take her into her room. She snuggled up in her bed and sent her sister out. She glanced at the picture that stood beside her bed. It showed Orlando, Jamie and
herself, all of them messing around in a lake. They used to have so much fun together. They swore an oath to stay together, inseparably bound in friendship that was
unbreakable. The world had been theirs to conquer. What had happened to that dream? To their friendship?
She missed her two best friends. Anna was all that was left to her, her beloved sister, but she couldn’t keep up with the love Katie had felt for Orlando and Jamie: Jamie,
who had become a drunkard after the death of his sister, and Orlando who had left after kissing her that night. That kiss. She had been trying to erase that memory,
but it was still there, vivid and full of life. She could still feel his lips on hers, could still feel his fingers on her neck and still smell his skin. She wished for him to be there
more than ever. She needed him to hold her now, longed for him to comfort her in her pain, and wanted him to beat the crap out of Jamie just to make him get a grip.
She took the picture and stroke Orlando’s head. “Where are you? And why aren’t you here to help me?” she whispered. The tears rolled down her cheek, then she
cuddled up and slowly the sleep came over her.

Orlando took off his sunglasses after having a good look around him. He was in one of London’s suburbs and it was not very likely that anybody would recognize him,
but he didn’t want to risk it. He wore casual jeans and a t-shirt, his hair was tied up in a ponytail. He didn’t like wearing his hair like that, but he was quite sure that
nobody would recognize him that way. He went through the front garden and was greeted by a young dog that came running up to him. He bent down and patted the
dog’s head until it was satisfied. The dog barked excitedly hopping up and down and around the guest and soon the front door opened. “Larry! Come over here, boy,
come on!” Orlando looked up and immediately recognised Anna, Katie’s sister. She hadn’t changed much, gained a little weight and looked tired, but still pretty. Nearly
as beautiful as her sister, Orlando thought. She had the same dark green eyes with the typical Stratford sparkle and she had the same dimples which characterized the
whole family, but her hair was of a different kind, a lighter brown, almost dark blond colour.
She recognised him immediately. “Well, hello, Mr. Bloom!” Despite his fears that she would kill him, she came up to him and gave him a warm hug. “I haven’t seen you
in ages! Look at you! You look gorgeous!” Her voice had the same warm tone he knew too well from Katie. Her voice was a bit tougher, the gentleness hidden in it. It
was the voice of someone who regularly had to raise it.
Orlando smiled happily and returned the compliment, but Anna only laughed. “Aw, no need to be charming with me. I know I look like a worn-out mum.” She answered
sarcastically.
He wanted to argue, but she wouldn’t let him. “I bet you want to talk to her?”
So she knew.
“That’s why I’m here. Is she there? If not, I can just come back later…”
“Or you can come in and have a cup of tea with me. Katie just went to get some groceries. Come on in, I guess she’ll be right back.”
He followed Anna into the kitchen. But suddenly all his courage left him. What if she didn’t wanna talk to him? After all that had happened between them…She still hated
him. Why hadn’t she told him? Why didn’t she want him to be there for her?
“You two made quite a mess there…”
He nodded, “Yeah, I guess so.” He hesitated, but then asked what he was dying to know. “Do you know…I mean, Is it…Is it mine?”
“Oh you better talk to her about that! I don’t wanna get involved…” She gazed at Orlando and could see his heart sink. What was it about her sister that made men go
crazy for her? She felt sorry for Orlando as he did look miserable, and knowing Katie she knew that he would feel worse after their conversation. In an attempt to cheer
him up, she added, “Well, you know, I am actually quite happy that you’re here to talk some sense into her. I already wanted to call you, but it’s weird how people laugh
at you, once you demand to speak to Orlando Bloom.” He couldn’t help laughing. “I’m sorry about that. I’ll talk to my PA and make sure you can call me anytime you
want.”
“That’s the least you can do for me. God knows how many times I’ve saved your asses!” They both laughed remembering how Anna had always made up stories so they
could stay away longer. She had always been the best storyteller.
A noise behind me made Orlando jump, but he soon discovered that it was only one of the kids. A little boy, he was probably around 3 years old. He remembered that
Anna had just been pregnant when he left, so this couldn’t be him. “Hey, who are you?”
Anna turned towards the boy, who shyly hid behind his mummy’s skirt. “This brave young fella here,” she lifted him up and put him on her knees, “is Brian Davis, my
son.” Orlando smiled. “Hey Brian, I’m Orlando.” The boy giggled and hid in his mummy’s shirt again. “He’s got his mum’s eyes.” The sparkling green had been the first
thing he had noticed about the young boy.
“Oh gosh, the Stratford eyes!” she laughed, “They’re a curse! Both of my boys have got ‘em!”
“I like ‘em.” Orlando coughed and then straightened up again. “Well, I’m glad things worked out for you.”
“Yes, they did. I found a nice guy and now I have not only my two little monster boys, but also his little brat. Who would have thought that things would work out to be
just fine when I first found out that I was pregnant? Do you remember how desperate I was? That’s another one of those Stratford things, first despair, and then think.”
And as she saw the sad look on his face she added, “You two will be fine…some day.”
He sighed, “Some day maybe. She’s gonna give me a hard time though.”
“Hell yeah, she is. And she’s right to do so. Did you think you could just come back, look absolutely stunning, impregnate her and pretend everything’s fine?”
“Yeah, I guess he did!”
At the sound of that voice Orlando froze. He wondered how such a beautiful voice could sound so cold and cruel. He took a deep breath and then turned around to face
Katie. Anna mumbled an excuse grabbed the boy and then left the house.
“Hey there. I think we need to talk.”
“Did she call you?”
“No, I’m a smart kid. I met up with Jamie and he told me everything. So I kinda figured the rest myself.”
She nodded. “Does he know that…”
“That I’m the father? No, unless he guessed it from my reaction to the news.”
“Well, how did you react?”
“I got up and left.”
“Now, that was smart.” She turned away again. For one second he thought that things maybe weren’t that bad, but when he looked at her, he knew that there was a
rough time coming – for both of them.
“Well, what are we gonna do now?”
“We?”
“Yes, we! I mean it’s also my baby, isn’t it? And we’ll have to find a solution somehow…”
“There’s so much ‘we’ in your sentences! Let me tell you something!” she glared at him furiously. “There hasn’t been a ‘we’ in the last few years and I was just fine –
until you came back and messed everything up. Now I will continue this on my own.”
“But you can’t!” He hadn’t meant to shout at her, but the whole situation just made him furious.
“Of course I can! It is my life, my body!” She, too, raised her voice now.
“And it’s my child, Katie, for God’s sake, when will you get that!”
“I got that alright Orlando, believe me I did!”
“Then why the fuck are you acting that bitchy!”
“Don’t think you can come here and talk to me like that! Not after all these years! Don’t you come here and judge me!” She screamed now.
“I do not judge you! All I was asking for was a chance, but there is nothing on your side. I want to help you, Katie, that’s all.” He tried to calm down, but his pulse was
racing and the adrenalin made it impossible for him to form clear thoughts.
“Well, guess what! I don’t need your help! I will take care of this alone. Okay? Now get out of here!”
“Alright. But what will you tell the kid when it asks you about the daddy? You gonna tell him that it doesn’t have a dad, because you were too stubborn? Or are you
gonna turn me into an asshole which you know damn well I’m not!”
“You really don’t get it, do you?” she approached him calmly now. “I am not going to have this child, Orlando.”
He gasped. “What? But you can’t…”
“Yes, I can. Now leave.”
He was defeated, felt entirely miserable, deeply hurt. Why was she doing that to him? Did she really hate him that much?
He shook his head and looked at her in disgust. “I wonder when this beautiful warm-hearted woman went that I once so dearly loved turned into such a cold-blooded
bitch!”
With these words he turned around and left.
Katie remained in the kitchen for a few minutes, trying to realise what had just happened. His last words had torn her heart out. How could he say something like that to
her? Of all the men in the world, why him?
She sobbed quietly. What had happened to her? Was he right? Had she turned into a heartless bitch?
Even though she would probably never admit it openly, in her heart she knew that he was right. After everything that had happened to her, she had built a wall around
her to make sure that nothing or nobody would get to her again. But somehow, this life that was growing inside of her, had managed to break that wall, and even if it
was only a small crack, it was enough for Orlando to peek through it.
