Part VIII
My Paper Heart Will Bleed
Tyson walked into his house. He had just gotten home from New York. He walked through the living room, all smiles, searching for Piper.
“Pipes!’ He yelled. “Pipes, I’m home!” Soon Piper ran down the stairs, a huge smile plastered on her face.
“Ty!” She threw her arms around him. “Ty, I’ve missed you!” Tyson soon noticed that she was crying. He pulled back and gently wiped the tears from her eyes.
“I missed you, too.” He leaned down and kissed her, a sweet, passionate kiss. He could tell that something wasn’t right, but couldn’t put his finger on what exactly it was. She was the one to pull back. “Pipes, is everything alright?” He asked, concern in his voice.
“Yeah, I just missed you, is all.” She replied taking hold of his hand. “So how was New York?” She asked leading him into the other room.
“It was alright. I wish you had come with me. You would have loved to be on TRL with us. Your fans would have gone nuts. They all asked about you.” He took a seat and she sat on his lap. “They wanted to know what you were up to and about our little trip to Hawaii.” They both laughed slightly. She wanted to tell him, but now just wasn’t the time. He was so happy to be home, she couldn’t ruin things by telling him that his entire life was about to change.
About a month had now gone by. Piper still hadn’t told Tyson and he knew something wasn’t right. She was now in the bathroom, the morning sickness had gotten to her. Tyson got out of bed and walked into the bathroom to find her with her head over the toilet. He knelt down beside her.
“Pipes, for God’s sake. This is the third time this week. I’m taking you to the doctor.” He stated. She looked up at him.
“Ty, I’ve gotta tell you something.” He sat beside her, giving her his full attention. She looked as though she was going to vomit again. “Ty, I’m pregnant.” He couldn’t believe it. He was gonna be a daddy.
“Pipes, this is fucking great! Wait until I tell the guys! Holy Shit!” He was a little overly excited as he pulled her into a tight hug. When he pulled back she could see the huge smile playing on his lips. “When did you find out?” He asked, now realizing what had been wrong.
“A few days before you came back from New York. I wanted to tell you when you came back, but.” She began to cry. He again took her in his arms.
“Don’t cry. This is a good thing. This is our baby. This is us.” He paused, thoughts racing through his head, on why she’d be crying. He pulled back and looked into her eyes. “Right?” He asked. She knew what he meant and laughed slightly.
“Yeah, you’re gonna be a daddy.” She replied. Tyson was so happy he felt like doing a series of summersaults.
“We gotta check with a doctor and see if you can go on tour with me. If not I’m canceling. You and our baby is way more important then the fans.” He said as she began to stand. He proceeded to help her.
“Ty, I’m going with you. I’ll just have to cancel my tour of course, but don’t you dare cancel yours.” She stated walking to the sink and grabbing her toothbrush. Tyson walked to her and kissed her on the cheek.
“I gotta tell Nick the good news.” He paused. “Or did you want to wait?” His expression saddened.
“Nah, go ahead and tell Nick. Just tell him not to advertise it yet. I’d like to tell my parents before the whole world knows.” Tyson practically ran out of the room-leaving Piper to brush her teeth in peace.
They were now both leaving for the Rejects overseas tour. It was two months later. All the guys knew about Piper being pregnant and Tyson had never been so happy in his life. Every show he would make sure to tell the audience that he was going to be a father. He wanted all the fans to know. He now lay on his bunk. He could hear Piper moving above him. She must not be able to sleep, again. He thought to himself. He wished there was something he could do. He rolled out of his bunk and opened the curtain to hers. She rolled onto her other side to face him. He gently brushed the hair out of her face.
“Can’t sleep again?” He asked. She nodded taking his hand and placing it on her stomach. He could feel the baby kick.
“He won’t stop kicking.” She replied. “He’s gonna be a fidgiter like the both of us.” They both smiled.
“How do you know it’s gonna be a boy?” He whispered, not wanting to wake the other sleeping people on the bus.
“I just know these things. It’s like this weird feeling. Trust me, little Tyson Jr. is the one kicking me.” Tyson couldn’t help but laugh, which in turn caused Nick to stir.
“I better get back to sleep. Nick’ll kill me if he doesn’t get all of his beauty rest.” He kissed Piper on the forehead, closed her curtain, and crawled back into his bunk. His dreams consisted only of her and their unborn baby.
A week had now passed as Piper and Tyson walked through a park in London. It was a beautiful day as the wind blew gently and the fall air wrapped around the two of them. They came to an abandoned park bench and Piper sat as Tyson followed. She looked out at the rest of the park. The city seemed to captivate her.
“Isn’t it beautiful, Ty?” She asked, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. Tyson shivered as a rush of wind went past them.
“Yeah, but it’s fricking freezing out here. How can you not be cold?” She smiled as she laid her head on Tyson’s shoulder.
“I’ve got like four layers of clothes on. I told you to dress warm.” He sighed.
“I didn’t think it’d be this freaking cold out.” She couldn’t help but laugh. He began to stand and took hold of Piper’s hand, helping her stand. “Let’s get inside. I don’t want you to catch cold.” He stated.
“You mean you don’t want to catch cold.” They both began to walk along the path back to the tour bus. Piper began to hum a melody Tyson had never heard.
“What’s that?” He asked. She sighed.
“I’m trying to write a lullaby. I figure our baby deserves his own song.” He kissed her gently as they continued to walk, both enjoying one another’s company and the relaxation of being in the park away from the public.
Nick smiled when Piper entered the bus. Tyson was off at the store buying her requested Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. She had been outside for a bit, enjoying the fresh air. She took a seat next to him.
“Hey, Nick, what’s shaking?” She asked, smiling. He turned down the volume of the television.
“Nothing. You?” He began to flip through the channels.
“Just waiting on my Ben and Jerry’s. Little Tyson Jr. is very demanding.” Nick laughed; he had never heard her refer to the baby that way.
“Little Tyson Jr.?” He asked. She placed her hands on her belly and sighed.
“Yup, it’s going to be a boy. I can promise you that. He’s gonna grow up to be the splitting image of Ty.” He wasn’t about to disagree with her, seeing as she was pregnant and all. He had learned in his time never to piss off a pregnant woman. She winced as the baby kicked again. “He’s kicking again. You wanna feel?” She asked causing Nick to cock his eyebrow.
“Sure.” She took his hand and placed it where the baby was kicking. “Wow, that’s inside of you?” He asked. She nodded. “Damn, you should put the boy in soccer.” They both laughed as Tyson walked onto the bus.
“Did they have it?” Piper asked, remembering her Ben and Jerry’s. Tyson walked over to her carrying a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Phish Food ice cream, and a spoon. He handed it to her. “Ty, you’re an angel.” She stated as he leaned over and gently kissed her on the forehead.
“Man, you missed it. Your kid was kicking again. I told her to put him in soccer.” Tyson smiled.
“Yeah, the kid’s got strong legs. Let’s hope his vocals are just as strong.” He replied. Piper looked at Tyson.
“Yeah, and strong hands, ‘cuz lord knows, he’ll be a musician. Music’s in his veins after all.” He kissed her again. He pulled back and looked into the pint in her hands.
“What in the hell is in that?” He asked, as it looked rather disgusting.
“It’s chocolate ice cream with, crap I can’t remember. Here taste it.” Before he knew it she had shoved a spoonful in his mouth.
“Hey it’s not half bad.” He kissed her again and then went to go and find his guitar as he had gotten a good lullaby melody in the car on the way home.
It was the night of another show somewhere in Germany. Piper stood back stage watching Tyson and the guys perform. Tyson would often walk over to her and sneak a kiss between songs. Tonight, however, Tyson got a little caught up in his intermission, staying back stage for at least five minutes. Nick walked off the stage, in the middle of the show, and found Tyson kissing Piper. He grabbed him by his shirt and pulled him back onto the stage. Piper couldn’t help but laugh. Tyson didn’t leave with out giving Nick some trouble on the way. Her laughter stopped when she felt the gun at her temple. Before she had the opportunity to scream a gloved hand covered her mouth. Fear ran through her as the person began to drag her off. She could tell the person dragging her off was a man. His grasp seemed rather familiar, like he had touched her before. Tyson looked over to the side and dropped the mike. He could see someone taking her away. He ran to the wing, throwing down his bass in the process. He stopped in front of them as another man appeared.
“Damn it let her go!” He screamed, the fear rising in his voice. The man stopped and Tyson could see the tears streaming down her face. “For God’s sake! Take me, just let her go!” The man considered his offer.
“No way in hell!” He screamed back. His partner grabbed Tyson’s arms. Tyson soon noticed Nick by his side, trying to get loose from the man who had caught him. “You want her alive and you’ll pay us the money we’re going to request.” Tyson couldn’t believe it.
“Look, just let her go, and I’ll write you a check right now for however much you want. Just let her go!” He was beginning to loose his cool.
“Tyson, don’t move!” Nick yelled at him. He could see Mike on a phone calling the police. “Trust me, Tyson!” He begged. He knew what Tyson was going to do and couldn’t bare to see someone get hurt. Tyson was just a musician, not a super hero, like he sometime liked to think.
“Piper!” Tyson screamed. He could hear her crying as the sob ripped through him. He wanted so badly to save her to hold her in his arms and comfort her. She was carrying his child and he couldn’t bear to see her or their unborn baby harmed. He couldn’t take it; his anger got the better of him as he stomped on the man’s foot. The man let go of him and Nick screamed.
“No!” Nick yelled. He could hear the police sirens. Tyson made a run for Piper, but unfortunately the same man who had held him back knocked him out. He fell to the ground as the pain shot through his head. The last sound he heard was the gunshot and Piper’s scream.
