Soon after the Alex incident, the party wound down and everyone began to file out. Amanda and William had found their way back to the kitchen. Amanda opened a cabinet and pulled out a first aid kid.
“Here, let me help you with that.” She said, gesturing towards William’s hand that had done the most damage. William hopped up on the edge of the counter and held out his right hand to her. It was pretty badly bruised and the knuckles were stained with traces of blood, though it wasn’t clear whose.
Amanda sighed as she wiped an anti-bacterial swab across his knuckles, cleansing them, “You shouldn’t have done that.” She said, continually looking down.
“What?”
“Gotten in a fight with him.” She sighed again as she began to wrap clean gauze over his knuckles.
“Why?”
“Because he’s not worth it.” She said while taping the ends of the bandage down.
“You’re worth it.” He said, his voice just above a whisper.
She was still holding on to his newly bandaged hand as she finally looked up and made eye contact. She quickly looked back down and began fussing over his hand again. Even though it was already perfectly wrapped.
“Yeah well, you hurt your hand pretty bad. You shouldn’t go around punching people.” She tried her best to keep the subject off of her, but he wasn’t making it easy.
“I don’t punch people unless they deserve it. And I’m pretty sure he deserved it. He got you pretty bad.” He sighed as he reached his left hand up to softly touch the side of her face where she had been hit. Her tender flesh was already beginning to shine from the earlier strike. She flinched away at the first contact of his skin on hers, looking back down.
William almost pulled his hand away, but then placed it at the base of Amanda’s chin, tilting her face upwards toward him. She was forced to look into his eyes once again.
“I would never hurt you.” He said as he began to lean forward. Amanda looked down at his soft, approaching lips as her eyes drifted shut and she found herself leaning in closer.
They were mere centimeters apart. She could feel his breath teasing her lips. Just as her heart began to still, the door to the kitchen swung open.
“Hey guys!” Tony said as he came in wearing a kilt.
Amanda and William quickly separated and Amanda stood back, nearly bumping into the refrigerator.
“Oh, sorry,” Tony said, “Was I interrupting anything?”
“No,” William sighed as he hopped back down off the counter, “Nothing.”
“Oh, well alright. Um so William I just wanted to let you know that I spoke with Butch Walker during the party. He mentioned how he’s got this guy who has been staying at his place. Michael Guy Chislett. He’s supposed to be a great guitarist, he’s been in a few other bands already, but none have really fit him well. So he’s gonna stop by some time this week and we can give him a try. What do you think?”
“Sounds great Tony, the sooner we get another guitarist the better.”
Just then a rumble of thunder was heard as a flash of lightning flooded through the windows. William glanced behind him to find Amanda had left the room.

Amanda rushed up the stairs, pulling off her angel wings as she did. Once she was in her room she shut the door and pressed her back against it. She walked over to her bed and tossed her wings to the floor. She pulled her dress off and quickly put on a large nightshirt. She glanced at the clock on her bedside table: 01:40am. Amanda crawled under her covers and lay still, listening to the sound of the rain pounding against the window. Soft thunder was rumbling in the sky as occasional flashes lit up the night. Then she heard it. Some sort of screeching noise coming from the bathroom. It sounded light metal on metal.
Amanda flipped her blankets back and slowly and padded over to the bathroom door. She reached out to the knob and turned it slowly and opened the door just enough so she could squeeze in. She heard a thud come from behind the shower curtain. She reached over and with a steadying breath, whipped the curtain open.
“Aaaahhh!”
“Aaaahhh!”
“What are you doing?” Sisky asked.
“What am I doing? What are you doing?” Amanda asked as Sisky lay curled up in the bathtub wearing black boxer shorts and a white muscle shirt. A small pillow and a blanket tucked around him. Just then there was a loud clap of thunder and Sisky flinched. Amanda quickly assessed the situation.
“You’re afraid of the storm.” She said as she sat on the edge of the tub.
“Am not!” He quickly defended just before another bang was heard and he flinched again.
“Ha, yeah, and I’m Oprah.” She smiled at him.
Sisky looked down at himself in the tub in shame, then looked back up to Amanda, “Okay, so I don’t like storms. Big deal.”
“Well, you’re not going to stay in here all night are you?” Amanda asked.
“Well that depends.”
“On what?”
“On how long the storm is.” He said as he looked away again.
“Well, I’m not gonna let you stay in here,” Amanda said as she stood and held her hand out to him, “Come on.”
“What?” He asked as he grasped her hand letting her pull him out.
“I’m gonna keep you company. I’ll keep you safe.” She laughed as she lead him back into her room.
“Are you sure about this?” Sisky asked tentatively as he watched Amanda crawl back into bed.
“Of course!” She assured him, “Come on, it’s not like we’re gonna do anything. I’m just here to help.” She smiled. And in that smile Sisky found the courage to spend a stormy night away from the bathtub.
He slid under the covers as Amanda held them open for him. He rested his head on the pillow as she draped her arm over his chest and cuddled against his body. With a sense of safety, he wrapped his arm around her as he slowly drifted off to sleep. Not even the loudest crack of thunder woke him that night.
