Chapter 7: The Date (After Dinner)
“Ow…! This hurts!”
“You can’t tell me you’ve never done this before, Kuinnu-chan.”
“Last time I did was a long time ago. I’m out of practice.”
“Ah… Well, you’re doing pretty well.”
“What’s next?”
“Put your hand there…”
“Ouch!… I think I pulled something.”
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah. I’m fine. Just sore now.”
“Heh. I’m not sore at all.”
“You must do this a lot.”
“Not as often as you think.”
“Well you’re obviously more flexible than I am, Gakuto-sama.”
“What’s the next part?”
“Your hand goes right there.”
“Think you can last much longer, Kuinnu-chan?”
“Depends on how much longer I can last in this dress.”
“Next time, we’ll have to do this in different attire.”
“What’s the next part?”
“Left foot… blue.” He replied, reading the spinner.
“I can’t believe I let you talk me into playing ‘Twister’ while wearing this kind of clothing.” Quinn said with a laugh. She wobbled a bit before losing her balance and falling over and onto the vocalist. Not that he seemed to totally mind. Gackt then smirked slightly, noticing a deck of cards on the table. "Say... You remember that game you were telling me about earlier?" He asked her.
She nodded, smirking a bit. "Hai...." He picked up the deck and shuffled it. "Want to play it with me?" He asked. She blushed again but nodded. "We'll need some drinks." The singer nodded slowly, still smirking a bit as he made his way over to the drinks cabinet.
Quinn took the deck and shuffled it some more. "I told you the rules. The number of the card means how deep and or dark the secret. Aces are high and Jokers are wild." "Alright." He replied sitting back in his chair, putting the shot glasses and bottle of scotch on the table.
"I'll go first." She said, putting the deck on the table between them and drawing the top card. It was a four. "Not bad... Let's see.... When I started fifth grade... I had to get glasses." "Really? I never would have guessed." The singer said chuckling faintly. "Well, I wear contacts now." She replied, pointing to her eyes.
"You might still have looked cute with glasses." Her date said before drawing a card. "6... let's see... Oh, I guess I should say that I used to kiss men." He admitted.
Quinn widened her eyes. "Uh..." He only smiled and pushed the deck back to her.
She drew a ten and then looked down. "When I was about 10 or 11 years old.... I almost drowned my sister in a public pool..." She admit.
"My, that IS a dark secret." He said a bit shocked. "It was an accident... and I had a short temper back then..." She said. Gackt quietly looked the deck and drew his card. He drew an ace. "Oh dear... that's a little too high for me right now." He said and took a shot of scotch.
Quinn giggled and then pulled out a piece of paper, quickly drawing up a T chart to keep score. "That's one point for me." The vampire laughed a little too. "Only two turns and I'm already losing."
"I almost forgot about points. You see, each time you take a shot, everyone else gets a point. At the end of the game, which is when we reach the last card, the one with the highest number of points wins." The journalist said. "Easy enough to understand." Gackt said handing the deck back again for her turn.
Quinn smiled as she drew a two, and blushed again. "I'm.... still a virgin..." She admit. Gackt widened his eyes, he actually was surprised but at the same time glad. "I see... Why did you make a bold move like that on such a low card?" He asked curiously. "It's not that big of a secret between me and my friends back home." She said. "At least, that's what I think."
"I see, that's understandable." He said accepting her opinion then drew his card. This time it was a ten, since she made such a bold move, he'd make one now. "When I almost drowned at sea as a young man... one of the first things I thought about was dying having not had sex." He admitted to her.
She couldn't help but laugh as he said the last part. "Are you serious?" It was his turn to blush now. "Yes..." He said laughing nervously. She struggled to stop her laughter. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to laugh..." "It's alright. I can look back on it and laugh a little too." Gackt replied.
Quinn smiled and looked at him. "How about... since this is your first time playing, for some of the lower cards, you can admit some of your favorite things." She offered. "That sounds like a good offer." The idol replied.
She nodded to him. "My turn, isn't it." "That's right." He passed the deck back to her once again. She nodded and winced slightly at the Queen of Hearts. "Ouch..." "Well?" He asked smirking a bit, wondering if she'd tell a secret or take a shot.
Quinn began to think about some of her darker secrets. 'Secret... or shot...?' She thought. "The way I would ever want to be seduced, in my dreams, is having my would-be lover laying me on a bed covered in roses and rose petals, kissing my neck and shoulders gently. He'd be singing 'Music of the Night', from my favorite musical 'The Phantom of the Opera', to me softly with red and white candles lighting the room, which will smell of incense sticks and his cologne."
He raised an eyebrow and mentally took note of that bit of helpful information. "I'm not a big fan of scotch, so I'm going to avoid it if I can." She said with a chuckle. "Your turn." Gackt nodded then took a card. "Oh my, 10 again. Let's see... I don't want to have children. I'm afraid that they'll have the same childhood I had..." He admitted a little sadly. The American woman looked down. "I heard you had a pretty rough childhood..." The vampiric singer smiled at her again. "Let's not dampen the evening with thoughts of the past."
She nodded and drew her own card, a nine. She sighed slightly. "Remember how earlier I told you about how I almost drowned my sister?" She asked.
"Yes, what about it?" He enquired. "That same summer... I was put into two different hospitals for depression and other reasons." She said, looking upset. "I had no idea... You hardly seem like the type to suffer from depression." Gackt said surprised once again. The American girl nodded. "If I remember correctly... It was not too long after that event too."
"I see. That is quite a surprise. But at least you seem happy now." Gackt said to her with a smile again. Quinn smiled and nodded again. "For the most part."
The idol took the deck and another card. This time it was a 3. "Ok, I believe that my ideal woman should be like my car: Selfish, bold and saucy, but sexy with a great body. A girl like that. Sometimes when I'm feeling sad, I don't want to talk to her. However, if I'm feeling gentle, I want her to return my feelings. That's the feeling that American cars have."
Quinn raised an eyebrow. "I never really thought about that... Being American myself I didn't think of the cars over there like that." She said. 'Selfish, bold and saucy... That's not me...' She thought.
"Japanese cars are no fun. They're always good girls." He answered with a slight laugh. "I don't have a car myself. I walk and ride my bike to wherever I need to go." The blonde said. “Good for the environment and it’s much cheaper.” He smiled again and nodded, returning the deck to her.
She drew a five and began to think. "Even though I'm a reporter and journalist, and I love my job... I hoped that I might become a writer or a lyricist." She admit.
"A Lyricist? You write songs?" He asked curiously. Quinn blushed and nodded. "I'm not that good..." "I'd really love to see your work sometime." He said with a bit of a grin. The American woman blushed some more and pushed the deck over to him. "Your turn."
Once again Gackt drew a card. "6. Hmm... Ah! I don't like it when a girl slams the door on my car. I always scream in my head 'I'm going to run her down!' when they do that." He admitted to the blonde. Quinn chuckled a bit. "I try not to slam the doors when I ride with my friends. Sometimes I don't know my own strength."
"I can tell what kind of personality a person has from the way he or she closes the car door." He began to explain to her with a bit of a chuckle. "Really?" She asked.
"Yes. Imagine this scenario. I've taken a woman back to her home in my car. The girl closes the door gently with a click. When she gets out of the car, she says something outside the window. I open the window, and she says "Take care." and waves with a smile. While thinking, "Wow, she's great," I start the car and leave. I make a U-turn and try to return back around to the front of her house, and she is still there waving. "I want to take her home again…." I think honestly." Gackt explained to her.
Quinn blushed slightly. "Lucky girl." She joked. He smiled softly to her. "There really aren't many people like that though. Most just slam the door with a bang and say "Bye! Take care, thanks!" then walk back inside. I personally think that’s rude myself." The singer explained to her.
The blonde nodded, understanding his reasoning. “Anou... where's your bathroom?” She asked after a moment. “Down the hall, 3rd door on the right.” He pointed her in the right direction. She nodded. "Be right back."
He watched her leave the room for a moment then glanced over at her purse she had left open. "Hmm..." He said faintly and casually before leaning closer and seeing a folded up piece of paper falling out. "Well... I suppose I could just have a peek..." He said to himself opening it up. The first thing the singer saw when he open the file was entitled 'Cinderella'. Naturally this peaked his interest since the dreams he'd be having lately were similar. He began to read its words aloud.
“It’s 9 o’clock
I’m just getting to the party
I see you standing in the center of the room
All alone in your unique light
You’re masking your emotions
Like you’re masking your face
I have no mask at all
No mask to hide my heart
Is this all going to end
When midnight comes around?
Will I disappear and become
No one in your world once again?
Let me enjoy this dream world
As we dance within each other’s arms
Let your lips press against mine in bliss
Your warmth, your scent flow over me
Here in this most perfect illusion
In this wonderful mirage I am in your arms
Music is all around, like the wind we cannot see
But all I can see are your eyes
Is this all going to disappear
When the clock strikes midnight?
Will I lose your heart when I leave
And never see you again in my dreams?
Is this all going to end
When midnight comes around?
Will I disappear and become
No one in your world once again?” He read out before letting his mouth hang open a bit in awe. “Suge...”
"Sorry that took so lo-" Quinn said, stopping when she saw him reading her song.
Gackt turned to her, slightly wide eyed. "Kuinnu-chan..." He said faintly. She grabbed the paper, her cheeks pink. "They’re no good... It's just some stuff I'll write down in my spare time..." She started to say, sounding more embarrassed than upset with the pop star.
"No no, really... what I read was...very touching." He said, a sincere smile slowly forming as he said that. She looked at him. "You... think so?" She asked. Gackt nodded. "I know so." He told her truthfully.
Quinn looked down. "I tried to write in Japanese style. American style rhymes and I find that a bit boring at times..."
"You wrote well, and beautifully too." The singer complimented. She blushed. "I wrote that... for you." She admit. His eyes widened as he blushed too. "You did? For me?" He asked in disbelief. "Well... I wrote that with you in mind... For your voice." She said, turning bright pink, still looking down.
Gackt could feel his heart going pitter patter inside his chest as she told him this. He'd received fan written songs before but never from someone so sincere in their emotive state while writing it.
"Do you... want to continue the game?" She asked, trying to change the subject.
Gackt's soft smile returned and nodded. "Of course." "My turn I believe." She said, sitting down again.
The idol took a deep breath to calm himself. He looked and saw only one left. Gackt had been counting the cards mentally and knew what this one was, a colored joker. He picked it up and showed it to Quinn. "Looks like I have to make a decision. Tell a secret and let the game be a draw, or take a shot and lose." The singer said looking at the score sheet. Only one point kept Quinn in the lead.
"The choice is yours. But in the event of a draw, my friends and I came up with a way to decide a winner." She explained to him.
"In that case... I'll tell. I have only lost a fight once. He was a great guy. We just happened to be playing at something like pro wrestling, and then he suddenly started doing the real thing. I didn't think that I would lose. He was said to be the strongest guy at school, but I didn't think he would be this strong. It was the first time I understood what it meant to not be able to move my hands or feet. Because we were able to stop in the middle, I thought to myself that it wasn't a true match. From then on, I began to train secretly. It was in order to beat him. My mortification did not disappear. However, because he was a good guy, there was no reason to fight after that. He never said "come fight me." I trained with the thought that if that day ever did come, I would be ready but before that happened, I had a chance to face him as partners in the dojo in karate. At that time, I thought, he's a genius! He was a genius of fighting."
She smirked a bit. "Impressive." "Now then... How do we decide the winner? Right now we're tied." He asked her. Quinn nodded. "Normally you need a third party for this. They decide on how to call a winner. But, since it's your house, you may decide the 'final challenge'." She said.
Gackt smirked. "Then I have just the thing." He said, leaning toward the fruit bowl on the table and taking two cherries, removing the stems of each. "The final challenge is this... Tie this stem into a knot... with your tongue."
She raised her eyebrow. "Okay... can you run that by me in English? I'm not sure I could understand that."
"I've heard that people that can do that are extremely good kissers." He said with a slight tone of seduction in his voice. The journalist blushed as red as the small fruits. "Okay..."
"First to get theirs tied first wins." The singer explained handing her a stem. "I've never done this before..." His guest said. "There's a first time for everything." Gackt said with smile. "Ready?"
The blonde blushed and shook her head. "I don't think I'll be able to do this..."
"Then do you concede?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. She looked at him, her eyes showing determination. "Not on your life."
The singer smirked getting just the answer he wanted. "Then on your marks...get set... go!" He said popping the stem in his mouth. Quinn did the same, trying to figure out a way to tie the knot.
Gackt didn't seem to having any trouble, seeming completely calm about it too.
The American girl seemed to have some difficulty with the knot. It was kind of expected really, since it was her first time. The idol smiled a bit watching, it just seemed so fun to.
She winced and began to cough before spitting the stem out of her mouth and onto the table, still coughing. "Are you ok?" He asked her, making sure she wasn't choking. She nodded. "You win. I almost swallowed it."
He chuckled a bit before showing her his tongue's handiwork. He'd succeeded but not only was it a knot, it had been tied into a bow too.
Quinn just blushed. "Damn... You're good..." "I've had time to practice." He said with a chuckle. The American woman nodded. "I'm sure you have." She joked.
He smiled a bit more and looked at her. "I have a feeling you're a good kisser anyway." "Gakuto-sama... you're really too nice to a girl like me." She said.
"Why wouldn't I be?" He answered simply with a gentle smile still gracing his face.
"This whole trip feels like a dream. I've had trouble keeping jobs before..." She admit. "Well if this is a dream, I hope neither of us wakes up." The singer replied in a soft voice. Quinn smiled a bit and felt her heart beating faster again, her cheeks still a soft shade of pink. He stared softly at her face, her expression was so adorable even for a grown woman. He leaned a bit, still smiling softly too.
Quinn yawned slightly and then looked around. "What time is it?" The vampiric idol looked over at a clock on the mantel piece. "It's just past midnight I believe. Looks like we lost track of time."
"I suppose I should get back to my hotel." She said before yawning again.
"Would you like me to drive you back?" The idol offered her. Quinn smiled and nodded. "I'd love that."
Gackt smiled, a few minutes later they were in his garage. He flipped a switch and a series of lights went on down the long room, a car under each light. There about 11 in all. "Wow..." She said, admiring each car with her eyes. "They're amazing..."
"Like I said earlier, I like my cars." He said with a bit of a chuckle. She chuckled as well.
"Come along then. Let’s get you home." He said heading over to his favorite car. A red American one, like he talked about earlier. "I love the shade of red." She told him, admiring her reflection in the shining coat of paint.
"I think red just seems to suit me best." He said to her. She giggled as she was about to get into the passenger's side but stopped.
It seemed that she knew about the fact that Gackt wasn't fond of people, usually women, sitting in the passenger seat. He guessed that she knew this and put a hand on the hood of the car. "Don't worry, I'll think she'll let it slide this time if you sit there." He said referring to the car like it were a person.
Quinn giggled again and bowed in thanks. "I'm glad that she won't mind." She said, sort of playing along.
He chuckled too and got into the driver's seat, closing the door carefully behind him.
She closed her door as carefully as she could, remembering what he had said about slamming the door.
'She remembered... Looks like she is thoughtful after all.' Gackt thought to himself as he started the car, the garage door opening for them to leave.
Quinn leaned back in the seat and felt herself relaxing easily. She knew that she'd most likely fall asleep before long. "Gackuto-sama... I hope I've been easy to understand with my Japanese." She said.
"Don't worry, I only hope the same thing with my English." He replied smiling as they headed off to the hotel.
The blonde nodded a bit before she buckled herself in and leaned back into the seat again. 'She's even done the seat belt right. The last girl I drove in this car clipped it to mine instead...' He thought, becoming more interested in her mannerisms.
Quinn smiled softly before she finally did fall asleep as they drove. Though he kept his eyes on the road, he stole glances at her sleeping form, smiling softly every time he did. It was about half an hour later when they finally arrived back at the hotel. "Kuinnu-chan, wake up... we're here." He said quietly, moving her body a bit.
She moaned softly as she opened an eye. "Already?" She asked, having lost track of time.
He nodded slowly. "You go rest in a nice bed now, both of us have had a long day." He told her in a gentle voice.
Quinn nodded to the idol. "Thank you again. For the interview, the dinner..." She blushed.
"It was no trouble at all, Kuinnu-chan. I'm glad to have been in your company this evening." He said to her. "And I do hope I can see you again. Soon."
"I will try." The foreign woman said as she unbuckled her seatbelt and opened the door slowly. "I will be here in Japan for a while. I would be happy to meet you again once I've finished with the other interviews."
The immortal smiled and handed her a small card, like a business card. "This number is to my personal cell phone. Please call me when you are able."
Quinn nodded and her smile widened as she stepped out of the car slowly. Her ocean colored eyes stayed on him all the while as she moved, shutting the door carefully so as not to slam it.
Gackt watched her, keeping his eyes fixed on her in return before he finally forced himself to drive off and leave the hotel area.
Later that night, while the blonde woman slept in her hotal room with a contented smile on her lips, a figure appeared on her balcony, staring into the room through the glass door with intense eyes. He gently placed a hand on the door, smiling at the sleeping beauty whom he had seen numerous times in his dreams. He did nothing but stare at her for what could have been hours before he felt the thirst beginning to take priority. "Sweet dreams, my Cinderella." Gackt whispered into the night as he began to leave. "Until we can meet again."

A/N: Yes, I really wrote that song, so it belongs to me. Please don't try to steal it! This has to be my longest chapter by far. Hope you enjoyed it.
