"Everybody," Landon announced as they approached a lunch table full of students, "This is Carrie, Carrie this is..." She watched on as he stopped talking for a second and momentarily left her side to stand behind a shaggy-haired guy in a Letterman's jacket. "Wesley, he's the quarterback and Captain of our lovely football team." He introduced the dark haired jock proudly, roughly grabbing hold of the boy’s shoulders and shoving him forward.
"Go Elks!" Wesley exclaimed loudly, pushing Landon's hands from his shoulders. "It's nice to meet you, Carrie." He greeted her with a wave, his tone completely changing from obnoxious jock to a human being in a matter of seconds.
There was something unsettling about the crooked smirk on his face but she smiled politely anyways, flashing that all-American girl smile. "Nice to meet you, too."
She continued watching Landon make his rounds around the table introducing her to what seemed like the entire football team. Somehow she had managed to maintain a smile that never once faltered.
"Don't forget the most important person of all." A clearly feminine voice chimed in from behind.
Carrie repositioned her neck, slightly shifting her head to the side so that she was able to see who had just spoken. Oh crap, that’s the girl from the Wal-Mart yesterday. Stay calm Carrie, just keep smiling and stay calm.
Landon glanced up from the table and smiled at the girl from where he stood on the other side of the table. "Hey sis, I'd like you to meet the new girl." He chuckled to himself and shook his head, "Sorry…Carrie," He corrected, "Her name is Carrie. Carrie this is my sister Schuyler, but most people call her Sky." He told her, joining his sister's side.
Carrie swallowed hard and waved. "Hey."
Schuyler cocked her head to the side and not so subtly eyed her up and down. "You look familiar." She said in response.
She laughed nervously. "I'm kind of guilty of almost running you down with my shopping cart last night." She admitted, watching Schuyler's expression change.
"Oh, that's right." She said her tone difficult to read. She shot a knowing glance at the two girls at her side.
Landon slipped in between Carrie and his sister and placed an arm around Carrie's shoulder. "You have a thing with colliding with people, don't you?" He guessed with a grin.
She laughed uneasily. "Not usually, maybe it's just your family."
Landon laughed and the entire table erupted in laughter; everyone except for his sister and her two followers.
"I like her." Wesley concluded and Schuyler made a face. Why does she look threatened?
Landon gripped her shoulder more firmly and pulled her more against his side. "Me too." He added. "Why don't you sit and have lunch with us?" He suggested, despite the disgusted look his sister seemed to be wearing on her face right now.
"There isn't really enough room." Schuyler protested.
Landon shot her a look and she watched the girl’s expression change immediately. "We'd love for you to join us." She relented, pulling a chair from an empty table behind them and placing it at their table.
"Thanks." Carrie said while lowering herself down on to the chair.
Schuyler snapped her fingers and she and the other two girls moved forward and seated themselves at the table as well. Schuyler took a seat beside Wesley and the other two girls, whose names she had yet to learn, sat on the opposite end of the table.
"I didn't catch your guys' names."
The two girls glanced at each other before staring back at her. "We didn't say." They replied in perfect unison.
Schuyler shot a glare at them. "Be nice." She ordered.
Landon slid down onto the chair beside her. "That's Maisie and Mitzie, you can just call them Mase and Mitz if you'd like, or the Baker twins." I have a feeling I might get maced if I call them by that.
She smiled politely and nodded, knowing perfectly well she wouldn't be calling them that. She wasn’t even sure how long she'd be welcomed by them, they clearly didn't like her.
"No way." Maisie and Mitzie muttered suddenly in unison. So that’s what that freaky twin thing looks like up close.
Schuyler glanced up and looked in the same direction as the twins. "Wow, I didn't think she'd show her face here again. Looks like Donovan is still playing guard the dyke. I bet you they're totally screwing."
Carrie's curious eyes lingered in the same direction as everyone currently seated at the table. Dyke? Her eyes fell upon and immediately recognized Kelly.
"I know her." She said, and watched all eyes shift over to her.
Schuyler blinked at her in disbelief. "You know her, how?"
She felt any and all calmness she had had go out the window. "Well, I don't know her know her, not like personally or anything, no. She delivered a pizza to my house the other night. So no, I hardly know her." She explained, gulping.
She watched Schuyler's face settle. "Good, because that girl isn't the kind of girl you want to hang out with." She seemed nice when I met her. Don’t you dare say that out loud right now, you already put your foot in your mouth once before.
"Lucky you have us to lead you in the right direction." Schuyler's minions chipped in before turning their attention back to Kelly and the girl walking closely beside her.
Schuyler turned her focus back onto the two girls as well and mock gagged. “I wouldn’t be surprised if she turned Ashley gay.” Is this girl for real?
Suddenly she saw the taller girl walking with Kelly halt in the center of the cafeteria and turn towards their table. “Seriously, what’s with the damn staring?” She snapped viciously. Oh shit.
The girl rolled her eyes as they all continued to keep staring. Carrie’s eyes began darting all around the table and back at Kelly and her friend. She didn’t know where to look.
“I’ll give y’all something to stare at.” She said, abruptly taking hold of Kelly’s face and pulling her towards her until their lips touched. Just as quickly, she released her, a loud wave of gasps circling around the table. “You assholes need to get a life.” She added, taking hold of Kelly’s wrist and leading her away from them. Kelly followed, complete shock written all across her face.
