It is known that the heart and mind are terrible liars.
Song: Crucify My Love
Crucify my love
If my love is blind
Crucify my love
If it sets me free
Never know
Never trust
“That love should see a color”
Crucify my love
If it should be that way
Kazuki frowned as he entered his hotel room. There were flowers everywhere. Who the hell--? His mind barely finished the thought as he slammed the door before Yukito could see and play love therapist. He dropped his bag near the couch and slowly took in the room. There were five different shades of roses as well as shape. There were carnations and lilies decorating the table. There were violets, daisies and poppies in his bathroom and dark rose petals on his bed. There was baby’s breath decorating the lamp stands and individual orchids marking a path from the door to the bed. “What in the hell--?” Kazuki managed. It looked like someone was using his room as storage for a florist.
Kazuki chewed on his liprings, deep in thought. This is my room. I didn’t steal any of this and it wasn’t here when I left. He reached out and grabbed a rose to smell it. This isn’t an illusion of an overworked mind. A sudden thought occurred to him. They didn’t put flowers in my bathtub, did they? Kazuki frowned and ran into the bathroom, careful not to mess up the orchid path.
Oh, good God!! He almost fainted with disbelief. Water lilies. There are water lilies in my bathtub. He thought to himself, dazedly. He sank to his knees, shakily, closed his eyes and rested his head against the cool porcelain. Why would someone do this? To get my attention, obviously…but… “There are water lilies in my bathtub!!” Kazuki wailed at the ceiling. His eyes swept the room again and only then did he see it. He peered into the water in the tub, frowning, and reached for the little white stone heart. In red paint, were the words, “Hana hime no tame ni.”
Kazuki bit his lip and was about to throw the heart against the wall but he just couldn’t. He knew who had sent it. He knew he would rather die than hear his voice again.
But he also knew that he couldn’t destroy the heart.
He stood slowly, and used the path to his bed and placed the heart down on the night table before giving it a tiny sad kiss.
“Ki-sama…”
Kazuki turned off his lamp with a sigh.
Gomen…
********
He was in a garden and there was a sweet breeze blowing through his hair. Kazuki took a deep breath and let it out. He ran a finger through his curls and wondered at that. He had a strange dream that he had cut his hair and bleached it. He frowned. Why would he want to do something like that? It seemed illogical. Kazuki’s mind slipped away from that as he walked barefoot through it. There was dew on the grass but he didn’t mind as it soaked into his white light dress. He saw a dark red rose in front of him and picked it up, noticing that the thorns had been cut off. He bent his head and smelled it. This place was nice. He should tell the others about this place. It would be nice to hold a photo shoot or a music video here.
“Kazuki-kun…”
Kazuki frowned and turned as he replied, automatically, “Hai?”
He stood there, smiling at Kazuki with a smile that promised the world. A smile that Kazuki had been longing to see. “Are you running from me?”
“Not ss yss you want me to.” Kazuki replied and with his trademark smile, he ran. The other man followed behind him predictably, calling after him. Kazuki only laughed and ran faster.
“Kazuki-kun!! Matte o!! Kazuki-kun!! Yameru!! Onegai?!”
His panicked voice made him stop and turn slowly and blink innocently at the other man. “Nani? Daijyoubu?”
The other man ran up to him and embraced him tightly. “Daijyoubu. Only never run from me like that again.”
“Like what?” He asked, confused. He felt a little breathless from the way the other man held him but relaxed and enjoyed his closeness. Kazuki rested his head against the man’s chest and closed his eyes.
“Like you want to get away from me.” The other man’s hand caressed Kazuki’s cheek softly and slid under his chin to make him look at him. “Aishiteiru, Kazuki-kun. Saigo ni.” His lips met Kazuki’s after he said that and Kazuki’s eyes closed again. He was lost in this kiss, loving the way that it made his knees weak and his body relax, the way it made him feel so warm. He had always dreamed that it would feel this way in his arms and he knew that…
Kazuki’s eyes snapped open. Wait a minute. He pulled away from the kiss and chewed on his liprings, perplexed.
“Kazuki-kun? What’s the matter?”
Kazuki shook his head as he stepped backwards. He looked around him-at the park, at the trees, at the grass under his feet, at his dress and back at him. He shook his head. “This is wrong. There’s…there’s something wrong…this…”
“What’s wrong, Kazuki-kun?” The other man stepped forward and Kazuki took another step back, shaking his head.
“This is wrong. All this. This…this isn’t real. None of it is.”
“Kazuki-kun, how can you say that? This is real.” The other man looked worried, “You’re just tired that’s all. You’ve been working too hard again. Come here. I’ll take you home and this time, no one will disturb us. No phone calls, nothing.”
Kazuki stared at him. “Home?”
“Yes. Our home. The one we moved into two weeks ago.” The other manled led reassuringly.
Kazuki turned away from him and shut his eyes tightly. He let his head rest in his hands and he shook his head. This isn’t real! “We don’t live together!” He heard himself say and his voice was filled with confusion and panic. “We’re not even…together!” He finished lamely.
The other man spun him around, “What are you talking about? Of course, we’re together! Why do you think you’re wearing the same ring as I am?”
Ring? Kazuki looked down at his left hand and saw an intricate silver band around his middle finger. He looked at the other man, who willingly held up his own left hand. He shook his head. Why is this happening? This isn’t real! His eyes began to fill with tears of a dozen different emotions. He reached out and twisted the band around in his finger. It felt real but…he knew it was just…wrong. This isn’t real. None of it is!! Why is this happening to me? My heart hurts enough as it is! “This isn’t real!!!!!!!” He screamed and ran, half blind from his tears, away from this horrible dream. Away from the man he loved. Away from what he wanted.
The man ran after him, yelling, “Kazuki-kun!”
No.
“Come back!”
No.
“Aishiteiru, Kazuki-kun…”
No!
“Saigo ni…saigo ni…”
No!!
***********
“NOOO!!!!!!!!” Kazuki screamed as he sat up in bed. He sobbed uncontrollably for a few seconds and threw the sheets off of himnorinoring the dark red rose petals that flew into the air and fell around him. He got out of bed and stumbled to the bathroom to wash his face and calm himself but paused when he found himself rubbing at his left hand. He looked down at his hand and sighed. He wasn’t wearing a ring.
He felt a little sad at that.
Then he cursed himself. “It wasn’t real! You should be fucking happy that it wasn’t real!! You’re not with him anymore, you never were with him and now you’re free. Why the hell are you torturing yourself like this?”
He washed his face, trying to ignore the flowers all across the bathroom and in his room and tossed himself on his bed, among the rose petals. “Take it easy, Kazuki. Just take it easy. When you’re ready, this’ll leave you and you’ll look back and laugh at this.” He sifted his hand through the rose petals, grabbed a few and let them fall. A few caressed his face and he sighed. “I just wish it wouldn’t take so long…” He closed his eyes and allowed himself to slip back into a light sleep until the phone rang.
He stared at it with his heart pounding in his chest. Should he answer that? And if he did, would it be him? What if it wasn’t him? The phone kept ringing while Kazuki’s thoughts ran rampant through his head. Finally, it stopped and Kazuki slumped back onto the bed in relief and disappointment. I can’t keeping ing like this. I have to…I have to move on. His eyes swept the room. And it starts now. He went to the closet and went through his clothes, pulling some off of the hangers and letting them drop messily to the floor. This outfit reminds me of his concert, and this one reminds me of the time we went to the carnival and this was what I wearing when he gave me that guitar for my birthday and this one-
Article after article of his clothing fell to the floor and some of it were his most favorite clothing. A part of him wept while the other held him strong, believing that this was a way to heal. He stared at the closet. It was more than half empty. Kazuki’s jaw dropped and he gave a slight chuckle. “Well, at least now I have a reason to go shopping…” He bent down and picked up the pile of clothes he had deposited on the floor. “I’ll donate this to someone I guess…” The phone rang again and he dropped them in surprise. He willed himself to calm down and answered the phone. “Moshi moshi?”
“Kazuki-san?”
He frowned, he recognized that voice…now if he could just place it-ah ha! “Miyabi-kun?”
“Hai!!”
“Ogenki desu ka?”
“Genki desu. Anata wa?”
“Genki desu! What can I do for you, Miyabi-kun?”
“Oh, well, I just wanted to tell you that I was going to see your show tonight.”
“There’s a lot of people seeing my shows…I wonder why that is?” Kazuki wondered out loud.
Miyabi suppressed a chuckle, “It’s not only for you, Kazuki-san. I wanted to see Toshiya-san as well.”
“Ara?”
“Eh?”
“You’re thinking something dirty, aren’t you?” Kazuki accused and Miyabi began laughing.
“No, no! Never!!”
“Yeah, sure…you’re going to come to the show tonight and honestly tell me that you won’t be staring at Toshiya-san’s legs?”
“Well….”
“Mmhmm.”
“I’ll be staring at your legs, too, Kazuki-san.”
Kazuki laughed, the first time that ever felt like doing so in a long time. “Arigato. I’ll see you tonight, then?”
“Hai! Ja mata ne!!”
“Miyabi-kun!”
“Hai?”
“Do you want some clothes?”
“Your clothes? Well, let me take a look at them first and then I’ll decide.”
“Okay. Ja.”
“Ja.”
Kazuki hung up the phone, went back to the pile of clothes that he had dropped and began to fold them. If Miyabi was going to take a look at them, he might as well make it easier on the boy. He tried not to think about the significance of each outfit and finally got all t fot folded. He shoved them into the hotel’s plastic bag and tied it up. He looked around at the room and began to take the flowers out of all of the vases. He took another plastic bag and shoved as much of the flowers as he could but there was still more flowers to take care of and that was the last plastic bag he had. He sighed and called housekeeping to help get rid of the flowers. As he waited for housekeeping to arrive, he reached out for the roses carelessly and swore when the thorns cut into his palms and dropped the roses. “Dammit…” Kazuki ran to the bathroom for a washcloth, wet it with warm water and began to wipe the blood off of his hands. “Baka. Just like him. To offer something beautiful and have it turn right around and kick my ass.”
There was a knock on the door and Kazuki hurried to answer it, his hands covered by the washcloth. An older woman moved past him with two assistants to remove the flowers in his room. He ignored the giggles and the sly glances in his direction. He knew what they were thinking and God knew he didn’t need any hints on how to truly handle the situation. He thanked them as they left with the roses and the older woman turned around and gave him a sympathetic smile. “You poor bishonen. Someone has made a mistake, ne?”
He blushed and she laughed then left with a bow.
He closed the door and sighed. No. Much as I wish it were a mistake on his behalf, I know it wasn’t.
********
It started off like an ordinary day. (Or at least by Kazuki’s standards of normal for the month).
Yuki seemed a little melancholy but happy with Hiro’s presence. Hiro was concerned for Yuki. Yukito made sure Kazuki didn’t go insane (again) any time soon and Kazuki was slipping into his older sister role and teasing Yukito mercilessly. As they walked into their dressing room, Kazuki had his back turned, teasing Yukito about his cute butt and Yukito saying something along the lines of what he’d do Kazuki’s butt if he didn’t cut it out for once and Kazuki begged him to and then-that’s when things went funny.
The rest of the band stopped and looked around in amazement. “What happened to our dressing room?” Someone wondered out loud. Flowers decorated the entire dressing room, ranging in color and species and Kazuki’s hotel room that morning paled in comparison his.his. Kazuki felt his jaw drop and a scream of horror emergeom hom his throat, jolting the rest of Raphael back into awareness. “Kazuki-kun?” Yuki said tentatively. The guitarist was staring around him, looking panicked. This is not fucking happening to me. His breath caught as he saw that most of the flowers were entwined around a certain part of the mirror and rose petals were spread out on around his makeup case.
“Kazuki-kun! Daijyoubu?” Yukito asked. Kazuki stared back at his band as if he didn’t know who they were.
“Yup. That’s it. He’s lost it.” Hiro said.
Yuki frowned, “Hiro!!”
“Kazuki-kun…daijyoubu?” Yukito tried again.
“Hana….” Was all that Kazuki said before he fainted.
“Kazuki!!” Yukito yelled just as he dived to catch the guitarist.
He and the others managed to carry the other man over to a couch, decorated with white orchids. Yukito looked at Hiro who nodded and swept all of it off of the furniture and they laid Kazuki down. Yukito shook his head. “Now is not the time to take a nap, Kazuki.” He looked up at the others. “We’re going to have to wake him up. You know how he is about being on time. Hiro, go outside and grab an ice coffee and a bottle of water from the vending machine. Yuki, take all these flowers and shove them somewhere where Kazuki won’t see and freak out again. I’ll stay here and try to find some other way to wake him up.”
They both nodded and left to do their jobs. Yukito shook his head and turned back to the prone figure of the guitarist laying on the couch. He sighed. “Kazuki…what’s wrong with you? Why did you freak out when you saw the flowers?” Kazuki said nothing, but he looked like he was slightly smiling. He looked happier than he did when he was awake and pretending to be happy. Hiro came back with the specified drinks while Yuki began to sweep away the orchids. Hiro handed the ice coffee and water to Yukito, who placed them on the table next to the couch. Yukito tilted his head in thought. He couldn’t slap the guitarist to wake him up. That was just rude and he didn’t really want to hit his friend.
Meanwhile, Yuki gathered as much of the flowers as he could and began to distribute it at as much as he could. He paused by the Dir en grey dressing room and was almost run over by Kyo, on a scooter. He threw himself against the wall with an, “Eep!” while holding onto the flowers. The others laughed as Kyo called out.
“Gomenasai, Yuki-san!” He sped around a drumming Shinya and would’ve run over Kaoru, if the calm guitarist hadn’t stepped forward at the last possible moment. Toshiya looked up from strumming his bass.
“Ne, Yuki-san. What’s with the flowers?”
Yuki gave him a smile and explained, “Ano…we had sort of scene in our dressing room and right now, Kazuki’s unconscious. I have to get rid of these flowers before he wakes up and freaks out again.”
Toshiya frowned, “I’m not going to ask. I’ll take some, though. Those are really nice looking flowers.” Yuki smiled gratefully and placed half of the bunch on the makeup counter in front of the bassist. “Arigatou, Yuki-san. He laughed, “Or should I say, ‘Dooitashimashite’?”
Yuki gave him a smile then made a face and the older man laughed. Yuki sped out of the Dir en Grey dressing room and didn’t see Miyabi as he ran into the guitarist. “Itai!”
“Gomen!” Yuki picked up some of the flowers that had fallen from his grasp and heard a gasp. He looked up and saw Miyabi and his eyes narrowed. Miyabi looked very uncomfortable as he tried to explain himself, but Yuki turned away before he could say anything and walked sharply back to his own dressing room. He opened the door and almost slammed it in Miyabi’s face. Kazuki was sitting up with Yukito by his side and Hiro hovering over him. Yuki turned and dumped the flowers under the counter and hid it with his bag, just as Kazuki turned to see what was going on. He gave a weak smile to Yuki and Miyabi then frowned at the look on Yuki’s face. Then he realized it and his mouth fell open with shock. Hiro looked over and did the same thing, but made his way over to Yuki, draped an arm around Yuki and took him out of the room away from Miyabi. The younger man stuttered as if wanting to say something but wasn’t given a chance. Kazuki watched as they went out the door, speechless and then managed to gain his composure.
“Hi, Miyabi-kun.”
“Kazuki-san.” Miyabi nodded, a blush to his cheeks. Yukito said nothing.
“I didn’t know you were the one…” Kazuki said, letting the sentence finish itself off in Miyabi’s mind. The younger guitarist winced.
“Gomenasai, Kazuki-san! I didn’t know that Yuki was in your band.”
Yukito leaned over to mutter in Kazuki’s ear. “And what was it you were saying about wanting to kill-“
“If you want to live to see the performance tonight, do not finish that sentence,” Kazuki said under his breath and Yukito smirked. He turned back to Miyabi and sighed. “It’s not me that you have to worry about, Miyabi-kun. It’s Yuki. Although, I don’t think he cares anymore. He’s facing a major distraction right now, by name of our drummer, Hiro.”
Miyabi nodded, numbly. “They do make a good couple.”
“Mm.” Kazuki took a sip of the ice coffee that Hiro gave him. He was having strange dreams lately. He could’ve sworn that the dressing room was filled with flowers when he came in that day but Yukito said that it wasn’t. Yukito said that he had walked in with the rest of them and he fell asleep for a little while. They knew how he hated to waste time so he and Hiro woke him and gotten him a ice coffee to get him started. He was still a little suspicious though. The place kind of smelled like flowers. He looked up at Miyabi. “Do you want to see the clothes I’ve got?” Miyabi blinked at the sudden change of subject and nodded. Kazuki swung his legs off the couch and stood. Yukito hovered and Kazuki gave a wry smirk. “Yukito, I’m fine now stop it.” He walked over to the bag that held his clothes and dragged it back over to the couch. Yukito said something about checking on Yuki and Hiro and Kazuki waved him off. Miyabi sat on the opposite side of the bag as Kazuki pulled out the first outfit.
Miyabi gasped. “Kazuki-san…you want to get rid of that?”
“Hai. Nani? What’s wrong?” Kazuki blinked at Miyabi innocently. The younger man took it gently from him.
“I remember this dress. This is the dress you wore at your birthday party when Ki-sama gave you that beautiful guitar. In fact, you used that guitar in the Promise PV.”
Kazuki stared at him. “You remember my clothing?”
“Of course, I remember your clothing. How can I forget it when Ki-sama kept ranting on how everyone could see your legs? He was so upset that day…” Miyabi fingered the buttons on the dress and looked over it. Kazuki felt himself blush. He was upset by that? But why? He shook his head. “Are you sure want to get rid of this, Kazuki-san?” Miyabi asked. “It looks really good on you.”
Kazuki nodded. “I’ve only used it once and I don’t think I’ll ever use it again.”
Miyabi nodded. “Arigato,” he folded it again and placed it beside him. “Ano…Kazuki-san?"
"Hai?"
"I hope you don't mind me asking…but why are you doing this?" Kazuki
froze and blinked. That was certainly blunt. Miyabi was looking down so he didn't see Kazuki's reaction. Instead, he stared down at his hands in his lap. "I know that it's none of my business and that your private life is your own and that I shouldn't interfere. But…you're…you were really nice to me and you were my guitar tutor and well..ugh, this isn't coming out right. I'm concerned for you, Kazuki-san." Miyabi looked up shyly and when he didn't see hostility on Kazuki's face he went on. "Something really important mve hve happened because you … you're acting so strange lately. Your hair…your curls….you cut them. You swore you never would, you were so proud of them-but just this week-Snip!! They're gone! Your hair has been bleached and I'm not saying that it's ugly or anything! It's really cute in fact! It's just that…" Miyabi trailed off.
Kazuki blinked, without knowing what to say. He stared at the younger guitarist who was still struggling to find the words he needed. Miyabi tossed the hair out of his eyes and took a deep breath, staring off into the distance, avoiding Kazuki's gaze. "You…You…" He shook his head. "You're usually so good at hiding things, but Kazuki-san, not this time. Something's hurt you. Deeply. And…and…Ki-sama. He hasn't been the same lately either. He's another one who's good at hiding things. But he's been slipping, too." Finally, his eyes slid back to focus on Kazuki's face. "Did something happen between you two?"
Kazuki sighed and shook his head, looking a little distracted. The dream from last night came back to haunt him. Especially his reply of, "We're not even…together." He swallowed back a few bitter tears, "Iya. Nothing happened." Miyabi tried not to wince at the coldness in Kazuki's voice. "Nothing -ever- happened." He looked down and picked up another outfit. "Would you like this one or shall I give it to someone else?"
Miyabi took that silent cue to drop it and shook his head. "I'll take it. I've always said that one looked better on me anyway."
"Baka…" Kazuki teased half-heartedly. His mind was elsewhere. Does he
really act strange now? Or is Miyabi just seeing things? Ki-sama's better at hiding things than me…or…it could be just his work that's doing things like this to him. It could be. He's always working so hard. He's always so stressed. Forget it, Kazuki. It's not good to think that things changed just because you're not around. That's selfish and stupid. Besides, you're free and you're young. It's time to move on…
“Daijyoubu?”
“Hai.”
“Liar.” Hiro pulled him close and Yuki didn’t resist. They sat on the stage, looking out at the seats and said nothing. “Tell me what’s wrong.”
Yuki said nothing, as he leaned against Hiro and began to play with the drummer’s hair. His hands wandered to Hiro’s face and began to caress his lips, then his jawline and then traced down his forehead and nose. “Tomo.” He said after a long while. He heard Hiro’s sharp intake of breath. The drummer tried to cover it up by nipping at Yuki’s forefinger, then sucking on it.
Finally, he let go of Yuki’s finger and he said, “What about Tomo?”
“He still loves you.”
“I know that.”
“What are you going to do about that?” Yuki asked, tensely.
“Ignore him and love you.”
“You can’t do that.”
Hiro looked at him seriously and in a soft pain filled voice said, “What do you mean? You don’t want me to love you?”
Yuki swallowed at the raw emotions he heard in Hiro’s voice and shook his head. “That’s not what I meant. I want you to love me. I want you to teach me the true meaning of love. I want you to make Sakito a distant memory. But Tomo still loves you and you can’t ignore that.”
“Yuki. I used to love Tomo, but I don’t anymore. I….I like you. A lot. I think I could learn to love again with you. But me and Tomo….that’s long ago. I won’t ignore him, since he is your best friend. But I can’t love him. Besides, I promised you that I was yours. Promises are not to be taken lightly.”
Yuki nodded. “Sou ka?”
“Hai, but something tells me that there is more to this.”
The vocalist broke away from Hiro’s embrace and stood, then began to pace the stage lengthwise. “Tomo is my best friend. And I want him to be happy.” He paused in the middle of the stage and looked down at Hiro, who was still sitting where Yuki had left him. “Zutto.” He clasped his hands behind his back and smiled. “Tomo has been through a lot, Hiro. And he deserves to be happy as much as anyone else does. As much as you and I. I would give anything to see him happy.”
Hiro nodded slowly then said quietly, “Even the cost of your own happiness?”
Yuki froze and contemplated it for a long moment, closed his eyes then nodded. “Hai.” Hiro looked away as Yuki knelt behind him and embraced him tightly. He kissed Hiro’s neck and they stayed like that for what seemed an eternity until Hiro whispered.
“Even at the cost of my own happiness?”
Yuki wasn’t sure if he was meant to hear that or not so instead of replying, he simply squeezed Hiro tighter.
From the shadows, Yukito watched, gave a fond smile and shook his head. Idiots. The whole lot of them. He was going to need a lot more help on this. He was going to need another couple to help him. And he knew exactly who to ask.
**********
Swing the heartache
Feel it inside out
When the wind cries
I will say goodbye
Try to love
Try to find
Try to reach out for eternity
Where’s the answer?
Is this forever?
Yuki scrambled onto stage, his arms full of flowers, hoping madly that Kazuki didn’t see what he held. He was the only Raphael member on stage and he smiled broadly as the audience greeted with appreciative screams and applause. He took the microphone and bowed a little. “Konbanwa…ogenki desu ka?” He smiled at their answer and went on. “Today, someone decorated our entire dressioom oom with flowers. Unfortunately, this had a bad effect on a few of us and we couldn’t appreciate it as well as we’d like. We’ve kept some for ourselves and we also gave some to our friends and since we consider you our friends as well, we decided to share them with you.” The audience screamed as Yuki began tossing the flowers out into the crowd. Hiro came on stage as well and helped him pitch a few to the back for those who couldn’t squirm their way up front. Yuki saw Tomo and jumped off the stage to hand him a few roses then climbed back onstage.
Kazuki came onstage with a confused look on his face but said nothing. Their show began and Yuki couldn’t help but feel as if someone was watching him very intently. And it wasn’t a very good stare either. It felt like someone wanted to grab him, give him the beating of his life, nurse him back to health and do it all over again. He shivered and rubbed the back of his neck. He didn’t like that feeling at all. He tried to ignore it and sing as if he didn’t notice it but it wasn’t working. Kazuki moved over and nudged Yuki during one of the breaks. “Daijyoubu?” He asked in his ear.
Yuki cast a nervous glance around, then nodded. “Hai, hai.”
“Are you sure?”
“Hai, hai!!” He reassured the guitarist, who gave him a quick kiss on the cheek that was meant to be comforting before stepping away. As soon as that happened, the feeling of something wanting to kill him increased. Yuki shivered again, focused on Tomo’s face and began to sing. Just focus on one thing at time, Yuki. You’re only imagining things. Just sing.
The feeling dissipated a bit but didn’t fully go away. Whenever Kazuki came near, the feeling increased and he tended to shy away from his leader out of habit of the strange feeling before realizing that he was running away from his friend and not the stare. As soon as the show ended, Yuki ran to Hiro for a comforting hug. The drummer seemed startled for a second before returning it then they all came to the front and bowed. He squeezed Hiro’s hand tighter when he felt the stare bearing down at him and scrambled off stage just as qly aly as he came on.
Kazuki, Hiro and Yukito ran after him in concern, wondering what was up with their vocalist. If it wasn’t one member of the band it was another…. “Yuki-kun?” Kazuki asked. “Daijyoubu? You looked like you were being hunted.”
Yuki bit his lip, “I don’t know. It felt strange up there. Like … someone really hated me"
"You sure you're not overstressed or anything? I mean…looks that can
kill? Sounds a little creepy. Like you've watched that X-files movie too many times." Yukito said, seriously. It wasn't meant to be funny but Yuki smiled anyway.
Hiro touched his arm. "Seriously. If you feel like you're in danger or anything just tell our manager or somebody and we'll get extra security."
Yuki smiled and shook his head. "I'll be fine. I'm sure the security we have is fine enough."
An assistant came in and smiled at Yuki. "Ano…Yuki, you have a visitor."
"Huh? Oh, okay." Yuki stood and figured that it was Tomo. He did give him a pass that allowed him to get backstage and talk to him when he wanted to. He didn't even bother to take off his costume. Sure, it was skin tight and showed off his arms and Tomo would tease him about it but he wasn't really in the mood to change. Kazuki looked up.
"Yuki-kun? Wait for me, ne?"
"Naze?"
"I don't know…I just want to walk around and plus if that person who gave you that death look managed to get backstage and tries to attack you, I want to make sure you have someone that can defend you."
They exited their dressing room, after theistaistant, just as Yuki asked him, "And what the hell can you do? You're just as skinny as defenseless as I am?"
"I can run and go get help. Or I could just stand there and watch you get beaten, so you have a witness when you press charges against them."
"Oh, you're a big help." Yuki replied and Kazuki gave him a grin. "But I don't think they could get backstage. We didn't give a potential hazard to my health a pass, did we? I only gave a pass to my best friend, Tomo, and I know he wasn't the one giving me that look. He was watching me all night with this look of concern on his face. Did you give a pass to anyone crazy?"
Kazuki thought for a minute and Yuki thought he saw a flash of sadness pass over his face. Then the guitarist shook his head. "No. No. I didn't give a pass to anyone insane or harmful. I think."
Yuki stopped and stared at his friend. Kazuki stopped, too and gave Yuki a shy smile. "What do you mean, you think?!!! It's either you did or you didn't!!!" Kazuki began laughing. "Kazuki!!!"
"I didn't! I didn't!!"
"Ano…" The assistant began and she looked around. The other two members
of Raphael finally looked at her. "I don't understand. He was here a minute ago. Gomen."
Kazuki smiled at her. "Don't worry about it. Maybe whoever it was went to the bathroom. Hmm, speaking of which…I have to go the bathroom…Yuki, can you wait here alone for this mystery person of yours? I'll be real quick, I promise, and if you get hit or anything just scream and I'll come running."
"Even if you're not finished?" Yuki asked.
Kazuki gave him a look. Yuki grinned. Kazuki snickered then pounced on him and gave him a sloppy kiss on the lips. "Kawaii!!"
"Ack!! Get off me! If you're gonna kiss me, do it properly!!" Yuki scolded. Little did they know that they were being watched, from the shadows.
"Oh and I suppose you're going to teach me? I don't know about you, Yuki, but kissing someone's neck isn't my idea of kissing someone properly."
"Hey!! That's a special kiss! And he likes it when I kiss him there!! And besides, that pathetic excuse you call a kiss, isn't exactly appealing."
The person that watched felt himself get angry at that and clenched his hand into a fist.
Kazuki put a hand over his heart and looked disappointed. "How do you know that wasn't a special kiss? And that someone likes it when I kiss them like that?"
Yuki gave a sardonic look. "Trust me, I know."
Kazuki snorted and crossed his arms. "Fine. Teach me how to kiss properly, Yuki-sensei."
"Wait, didn't you say you had to go the bathroom?"
"What? You're backing out now?"
"No. I just want to make sure you're comfortable."
"You're a weirdo but you're right. I do have to go to the bathroom."
Yuki let out a sigh of relief. Kazuki grinned mischievously. "But not before I get my kissing lesson." Yuki groaned. "Hey, you stepped into it, sweetie, who am I to deny you the pleasure of cleaning it up?"
"Fine. Come here." Yuki instructed.
"Oh, you're romantic. Remind me why Hiro fell for you."
"Shut up, Kazuki, I don't need to be romantic for you."
The watcher growled as he saw Kazuki pout. "And I thought you were going to teach me how to kiss properly. Isn'mancmance a part of it?"
Yuki shook his head at Kazuki. "Yeah, but…fine." He grabbed Kazuki's hand. "Know that I'm thinking of Hiro while I do this."
Kazuki laughed as Yuki dipped him. "Know that I'm thinking of anyone but you, while you do this."
"That's certainly encouraging."
"You're welcome."
Yuki studied Kazuki's face, a little nervously. Kazuki gave him a reassuring grin. Yuki lowered his lips gently on Kazuki's, noting the way the guitarist's eyes fluttered closed. Yuki's own eyes closed as he felt Kazuki's lips part and his fingers twined themselves in Yuki's pink hair. Yuki gently slipped his tongue between Kazuki's lips and the guitarist moaned, a little in shock and a little in pleasure.
And the person who watched them kiss, felt his heart scream in pain and
his anger began to smolder. He closed his eyes for a second but couldn't help but watch. He watched Kazuki's face…so peaceful, so beautiful, so perfect.
Finally, Kazuki and Yuki stopped and they looked at each other. Yuki placed Kazuki back on his own two feet. "Well, how did I do?" Yuki asked.
"I've had better." Kazuki said nonchalantly. Yuki glared at him and Kazuki began laughing. "Oh, why are you so pissed? It's not as if I matter or anything. Why don't you try that on Hiro and we'll see what happens. 2000 yen says he likes it. 3000 yen says he tries to jump you in your sleep." Kazuki looked around. "Alright, seeing as that mystery person hasn't showed up yet, I'm going to go the bathroom. I'll be right back."
Yuki nodded and leaned against the wall. He licked his lips, not thinking about what he had just done. Suddenly, there was a slight movement at the corner of his vision and Yuki tilted his head curiously. What was that? He squinted a little. At the far end of the hall, right where the shadows and the light met, was something. He stood and took a step forward. It looked like flowers. Hm. He'd better get rid of it before Kazuki saw it and freaked. Of course, it was just a small bunch and Kazuki might not even see it but….there was still that chance. And it could be that Yuki had accidentally dropped it earlier today and forgotten about it. He walked towards it and bent down to pick it up and snatched his hand back, narrowly having it crushed beneath a boot. Yuki gulped and straightened slowly, as if afraid to look at who the foot belonged to but he had to know who it was. A beautiful man stood there with long red hair. Yuki felt his jaw drop. He knew him! "Ki-sa-"
"Well, what do we have here?" Came a voice like ice. "Ah, yes, Yuki from Raphael."
Yuki smiled but it quickly faded away when it had no affect on the other man. He swallowed nervously. The man was in full makeup and in his stage costume as if he wanted Yuki to know who he was. "Ano…what-what are you doing here?"
"That's not very polite, now is it?"
"Iya…gomenasai." Yuki gave a slight bow.
"It's almost as impolite as you giving away my flowers to a bunch of strangers."
Yuki frowned. "You sent those?"
The other man nodded. "Hai. Cost a hell of a lot, too."
"Dooshite?"
"For my Kazuki." Yuki blinked in shock and the other man smiled rather bitterly. "Yes, that's right. He's mine. He's been mine for years. And it'll take more than you to get rid of me. But you're determined, aren't you? You gave away all those flowers…like they were nothing."
Yuki couldn't speak. He didn't know what to say. Too many thoughts swirled through his head as he took a step back, in fear. The other man smiled as if he could sense this and stepped forward. "I-" he began. "It's not what you think!!"
"You can't possibly know what I think." The other man replied coldly.
How lond hed he been standing in this hall? The thought ran through his head as he took another step back. The kiss he had just shared with Kazuki came up and smacked him in the face. His startlement must have shown on his face for the other man smiled rather predatorially.
"Yes. I did see that. And what's wrong? Kazuki isn't good enough for
you?"
"Iya!!" Yuki replied, frantically. "Kazuki and I are just friends!! I'm not even in love with him!!" He winced at the man's stare. Okay, that might've been the wrong thing to say at the moment. "That kiss wasn't even-it didn't-and-i's r's really yours as you say then you would know that there's nothing between us!! And you know how he is!! That whole thing about me allegedly sleeping with him. It…it…"
"It didn't happen?"
"I mean…I did sleep with him but it was nothing!!" Yuki gulped.
Definitely the wrong thing to say.
Before he knew it, he met a backhand that made him stumble back against the wall. Yuki grimaced in pain and stood just as a sharp pain caught him in the stomach. "Nothing?! Nothing?! Kazuki is not nothing!!!"
Yuki doubled over coughing, just as he heard a frightened angry shout. "Yuki?!!!" Someone ran over to him and helped him up. Yuki continued coughing blinking tears from his eyes as Kazuki helped him up. The vocalist leaned against his friend for support.
"Ki-sama!!! What the hell are you doing?" Kazuki snapped. The other man didn't bother to answer as the young man turned his attentions back on his friend. "Oh, God, Yuki-daijyoubu?!"
"Kazuki-kun," the other man said.
"Please leave," the guitarist told curtly. "I think you've done enough as it is." He turned around leaving the other man there and patted Yuki. "Daijyoubu?"
"In a minute," the vocalist managed weakly. "Demo…Kazu-chan?"
"Nani?"
"Why didn't you tell me that you and-"
"We're not." Kazuki replied.
"Demo-he said-"
"He's lying. Let's get you back into the dressing room and I'll go call security," Kazuki replied, his voice strained with anger and hurt.
