Rock of Ages, Forever Pt80
Joe stirred when he felt the coolness touch his face. He slowly opened his eyes to the dim light. Turning his head made him wince in pain from the pounding. Blinking his eyes several times his vision cleared, Rebecca was leaning over him.
“Hi.” She smiled.
“Hi.” He croaked.
Joe tried to sit up, but Rebecca pushed him back down.
“No, just lie there. You took a nasty bump on the head.”
“Feels like a Mac truck hit me.”
“How do you feel?”
“Like I’m going to be sick.”
“If you do, I’ll have to take you to the hospital.”
Joe reached up and tenderly touched his head. The lump felt like the size of a grapefruit. He groaned from the pain and closed his eyes. “I’m going to be sick.”
Rebecca grabbed the waste basket and helped Joe sit up, he barely made it before he retched. When he was finished she helped him to lean against the couch and got him something to drink.
“Just a little and don’t go back to sleep.”
“But I want to sleep.” Joe informed her groggily.
“Ok, big boy, off to the hospital we go,” she told him. “I’ll just be a minute. I need to take Amber to the neighbors. Don’t move.” She said firmly.
“I wouldn’t dream of it.”
Rebecca quickly left him and gathered Amber from her bed, taking her next door to the neighbor's. She asked Sandy if she could stay until tomorrow, she had to take Joe to the hospital. She hugged her and hurried back home to collect Joe.
***
Four hours and six stitches later, armed with painkillers for two broken ribs, Rebecca took him home. He didn’t once ask about Sav, he questioned her about what happened after he passed out. She told him how Sav had literally attacked her like some one possessed, other than the bruises on the inside of her thighs and shoulder were he bite her, she was fine, sore, but ok. Rebecca had held him until he pulled away from her like she was a stranger and told her to get away from him. Joe finally asked about Sav and where he was.
“Right over there.” Rebecca said pointing to the corner in the living room. “He hasn’t moved a muscle since he crawled over there. Not even when I straightened his clothes. He just sits there staring off at nothing.”
Joe noticed that his eyes glowed soft amber. “Are his fangs down?”
“I think so, want me to look?”
“No, just stay away from him for now. He’s shut me out again and I don’t know what’s wrong. I don’t want Amber here until its safe.”
“You don’t think he would hurt her do you?”
“I don’t know, but I’m not taking that chance.”
“Ok, I’ll see if color:#000080">Sandy can keep her longer.”
The following afternoon Joe gingerly made his way downstairs, he was sore all over. He glanced over at Sav. He hadn’t moved from the corner and was now lying down asleep. He found Rebecca in the kitchen, she looked up at him as he came in.
“Hi, how do you feel today?” Rebecca smiled as he came in.
“I was about to ask you the same thing.”
“A little sore, but other wise I’m fine.”
“Same here, just waiting on the pain killers to kick in.” Joe told her. “How long has he been asleep.”
“Just a couple of hours. He’s called for you several times.”
“Let him.” he grumbled.
“Don’t do that Joe.”
“I’m really pissed at him this time. What if Amber had came downstairs, he could have killed her for Christ sake.”
“Don’t get yourself worked up, it’ll only give you a headache.”
“I don’t understand what happened, why he did that?”
Rebecca sat a plate with a sandwich in front of him, “Maybe he’ll tell us when he wakes up.”
“He better have some damn good answers too.”
The sun slipped below the horizon and darkness engulfed the city. Sav had yet to wake up. He kept calling out Joe’s name and he ignored him. 'Let him suffer as we are.' Joe grumbled to himself as he was getting ready for bed.
It had seemed like Joe was just drifting off to sleep, when he was jerked awake. Sav was gently touching his mind. After an hour of his constant probing, Joe got up and went downstairs. He eased himself down in front of him and watched him sleep for a while. Reaching out his hand, he hesitated seconds before he touched his shoulder. Sav sprang to a sitting position and backed up against the wall. Joe jumped from his sudden movement, jarring his ribs painfully. The look on his face reminded Joe of a frightened little boy going to school for the first time.
“It’s ok Sav.” Joe’s voice was soft so not to scare him any more. His eyes cleared to blue quickly as he recognized Joe.
Sav slowly reached his hand up and lightly touched the stitches, down to the large bruise on the side of Joe’s face. “What happened?” he asked softly.
“You don’t remember?”
Sav drew back from him, searching his mind for the answers. “No.”
“You lost control again. Only this time, Rebecca took the burnt of it, you practically raped her... and me.”
Tears sprang to his eyes. “I don’t remember any of it.”
“We’re both a little banged up, but we’re both ok.”
Sav looked down at his hands as he twisted them together. “I don’t kn…”
“It’s ok, we’ll heal.”
“It’s not ok Joe. I could have killed you or….”
Joe reached up to touch his cheek. “Look at me.” When he didn’t, Joe hooked his fingers under his chin to force him to look. “It’s not your fault.”
“Yes it…..”
“No, you can’t blame yourself this time. I think it has some thing to do with the drug that they gave you. Some kind of side affect maybe.”
”That was months ago. How could it affect me now.”
“I don’t know, but it’s the only thing I could come up with to make you act this way.”
“But I…what about…next time.” The tears spilled over and ran down Sav’s face and Joe gently whipped them away.
“Sav don’t, don’t blame yourself.” Joe said softly. “I’m still a little pissed, but I’ll get over it, just like I always do.”
Sav looked down at the floor, shaking his his head.
“Come here.” Joe said softly. Sav moved timidly into his comforting embrace. Joe pulled him tight against him, felt his body shake from pent up emotion of what he had done, felt him in his mind, the pain and regret weighted heavily. “It’s ok, we’ve been here before and got through it and we will again.”
Joe continued to talk to him until he began to relax and almost went back to sleep until Joe had to move. He got up and coaxed him to the couch, grabbing a blanket and a couple of pillows. He laid down behind him, covering them both with the blanket, he molded himself behind Sav. Kissing his neck tenderly, pulling him as close as he could despite the pain it caused him.

They decided to wait another week before leaving to going back to Holland, giving Joe and Rebecca some time to rest and heal some before the long trip. Sav stayed to himself most of the time, and when ever he looked at Joe, he was reminded of what he did. When just last week, they were sharing their love for each other. Sav didn’t know if that would ever happen again, he had pushed it to far this time.
Nick's jet was waiting for them at the airport when they arrived. Sav quietly told them to take the room and he would stay in the forward cabin out of their way. Rebecca had asked him to join them, but he refused. The time change had thrown Amber off and she was bouncing around the plane most of the night. Joe had already went to lye down and Rebecca was dozing in the chair. Sav finally told her to go bed, he would watch Amber. Sav played with her for several hours until she finally went to sleep. He laid down with her, cuddling her close as the sun began to shine dimly through the plane windows on it’s lazy journey east.

“Never thought I would see this place again.” Joe grumbled as he went through the front door.
“Mr. Savage, Mr. Elliott, welcome back.” Arthur greeted them at the door. “I trust your time off was relaxing.”
“Some of it.” Sav commented dryly.
“The others have arrived and will be down shortly.”
“Thanks Arthur.” Sav said in the same tone of voice. “I’ll be in my room.”
Joe watched him go up the stairs, and noticed that Nick was standing at the top glaring down at him with that arrogance he is so fond of using. Sav walked by him, Nick turned and grabbed his arm to stop him, to which Sav jerked it away, continuing down to his room. Nick watched his retreating back and glanced back down at Joe. He could see the lines of anger in his features. Nick spun on his heels and followed Sav. Joe was about to go upstairs to try and stop any fighting that may start between them when Arthur’s voice stopped him.
“There seems to be some thing troubling Mr. Savage.” Arthur commented.
“Yeah we had…..a disagreement a few days ago.” Joe told him.
“Perhaps I could talk to him.”
“I don’t think that would be a good idea.”
“Some times talking to one outside the circle helps.” Arthur said and quickly smiled towards Rebecca. “And who are these lovely ladies?”
“Rebecca my fiancé and Amber my daughter.” Joe introduced them.
“My pleasure Miss Rebecca. It’ll be nice to have a lady around, for a little while at least. It’s been many years since this house was graced with the laughter of a small child and one that is highly regarded by Mr. de Brabant.”
“So do I Arthur.” Joe’s voice was hard. “Along with her Uncle Sav.”
Arthur stared at him a moment. “Point taking Mr. Elliott. Your room is ready when ever you are.”
“Well if it isn’t the beautiful lady of the house.” Phil said as he came down the stairs. “I though I heard your voice.” he kissed her cheek and gave her a tight squeeze.
“It’s good to see you again Phil.” She replied.
Phil turned to Joe and Amber.
“And this must be Amber.” Phil smiled. “She’s beautiful, like her mother.”
Amber pointed to his mouth, her finger dripping with slobber.
“She wants to see your teeth Phil.” Joe said.
Phil smiled big and she gazed at him intently, moving her head several different ways to get a better look.
“What is she looking for?” Phil asked Joe.
“Your fangs.” Joe told him. “No Amber he doesn’t have any.”
“Your kidding, she knows about Sav?”
“Oh yeah, wait to you see her wake him up. Scared the shit out of me one day.”
“Nobody can get away with that, not even me.”
“She poked around on him for a while. I though he was asleep, his fangs came down and she giggles. Next thing I knew, he scared her and flew to the ceiling. I thought he was going to have her for breakfast.”
“Did she cry?” Phil asked stunned at what Joe told him.
“No, she screamed with laughter.” Joe smiled at the memory. “I couldn’t help but yell at him for doing that.”
“What Joe didn’t realize and we both forgot to tell him, is that every time Sav came to our house they played this little game. And she loves it.”
“You’ve got to be kidding right?”
“No we’re very serious. Maybe you can catch them one day.”
“That I would like to see.” Phil chuckled. “What happened to your face?”
“I’ll tell you about it later.” Joe said putting Amber on the floor, she looked around the big room and started for the staircase. Joe followed close behind to make sure she didn’t fall backwards.
“I never thought I would see the day Joe had his own child.” Phil said softly.
“And he loves her very much.” Rebecca told him.
“Now he can stop spoiling everybody else’s and spoil his own.”
Rebecca laughed at that. “He already has that down pat.”
***
Nick stormed into Sav’s room and out onto the balcony where he knew him to be. Nick grabbed his shoulder and spun him around the face him. “Explain yourself to me.”
“Explain what?” Sav asked flatly.
“You left alone, and came back with Mr. Elliott.”
“Yeah…so what.” Sav replied and went to turn away from him. Nick grabbed his shoulder again and held his throat snugly.
“You went to join him didn’t you?” Nick said angrily.
Sav didn’t respond, looking away from him. Nick’s fingers tightened on his neck.
“Yes.” Nick growled.
“Yes…goddamnit I did!” Sav yelled, knocking Nick's hand from his throat.
“And.”
“And what….what do you want to know Nick?” Sav continued to yell, “The times Joe and I were together…in bed…….the way that he fucked me. The gentleness in his touch when we were together. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that it would feel so good, but yet feel so right between us. He pulled a side from me that you can only hope to see!”
Nick’s anger boiled at his confession of sleeping with Joe. His hand shot up and backhanded him across the face. Sav slowly turned his head back to glare at Nick. He reached up and wiped the blood from his lip and licked it from his finger.
“I thought you would be more original than that.” Sav told him coldly.
“I could be if you wish.” Nick replied.
“You know what….it doesn’t matter anyway thanks to you.” Sav started. “After I nearly killed him again and took him by force, all because of your little drug, I may never know that kind of pleasure again with Joe. Something you can never give me. Is that what you wanted to hear…….does it make you happy now?”
“What do you want me to say?” Nick asked softly.
“Nothing……there is nothing left for you to say, but I will tell you this. I believe that the love Joe and I have together will get us past this, as it has done before.”
Nick never glanced away from him the whole time Sav yelled at him. “If you want to leave me you…”
Sav cut him off. “Leave you!…..I’ve heard that before…..and how far would I get?”
Nick didn’t answer him.
“That’s what I thought.” Sav told him. He ran his hand over his face and looked around. “You know….I’m tired, it’s been a long week. So why don’t you just go away and leave me alone for a while, think you can do that?”
Sav slumped down in his chair and sighed deeply. Nick stayed a few more minutes before he took his leave, not saying another word.
***
Joe and Amber came around the corner just as Nick was coming out of his room. They glared at each other a moment before Nick spun on his heels, striding down the hall to his room and slammed the door. Joe shrugged his shoulder, then followed Amberstraight to Sav’s room and headed for the balcony. The door was open and she went out. Joe went to stop her from brothering Sav, but she pulled away from him and covered the last few feet. Without hesitation, she climbed up in his lap to settle against his chest. Sav wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head.
“Hi pumpkin.” Sav mumbled.
Joe barely heard him, sensing that he wanted to be alone, Joe quietly turned to leave them. He went back downstairs to find Rebecca and the others in the kitchen talking.
“She went straight to his room. How did she know where to find him?”
“Got us on that one Joe.” Phil said.
“Joe what’s wrong with Sav, he’s been too quiet lately?” Rebecca asked.
“I’m not sure, but it may have some thing to do with last week.”
“What happened last week?” Phil asked worriedly.
“He lost control again and took it a little to far.” Joe said.
“Is that where the bruise on your face came from?” Rick asked.
“Yeah along with a couple cracked ribs.” Joe frowned.
“What the hell did he do?” Vivian said a little too loud.
“Like I said, he took it to far.” Joe told them and sipped his coffee.
“You mean he….uh….went..…” Phil started.
“I don’t remember, I passed out.” Joe put in.
“No he didn’t, he came after me.” Rebecca said.
“But I thought you two were getting back together?” Rick asked.
“We are.”
“But if he is……that doesn’t bother you Joe?”
“No, it’s complicated to say the least. Maybe we’ll tell you about it one day.”
“Now I’ve heard everything.” Rick commented.
“Just half of it.” Joe said looking down at his cup.
“And what is the other half?” Vivian asked.
Joe sighted deeply, “We’ll talk about it later, but not tonight. I’m tired and I have a headache.” he looked over to Rebecca. “Are you coming?”
“Yes, I’ll be up in a minute. I need to put Amber to bed.”
“Ok, goodnight guys.” Joe said and went upstairs.
Rebecca rose from the table. “Try not to push the subject to much guys. It’s still a little touchy with them. I’ll give you a few details so not to keep you in the dark. Joe believes the reason he did that is because of some side affect from some drug that was given to Sav.”
“But that was….” Phil started.
Rebecca cut him off. “He was fine up until that night, we spent some rather…..close moments together.”
Everyone looked at her in shock. “You sleep with him?” Vivian asked.
“What did Joe do, bet he was pissed.” Rick put in.
“Actual no he wasn’t. He joined us….several times.” Rebecca smiled.
“He did!” Rick exclaimed and looked at Vivian and winked at him.
Phil was smiling, but it faded after a few minutes. “You know what they say about close friends who sleep together, it destroys their relationship in the end.”
“I don’t think so in this case.” Rebecca told him.
“You mean Joe and Sav they….holy shit.” Rick quipped.
“Well I’ll leave the rest up to you to ponder. Like I said, give them some room about the fight ok.”
“Yeah….yeah sure.” Rick replied.
“No problem here.”
“Are they both ok, other than the fight?” Phil asked her.
“Yes they are.” Rebecca told him and kissed his cheek. “Goodnight, see you tomorrow.”
“Yeah goo…” Rick’s voice trailed off as he though about what was said.
“Night Rebecca.” Vivian called after her.
“Hope this doesn’t break up the band.”
Phil rolled his eyes. “No it won’t.”
Rebecca heard them talking quietly as she went upstairs and found Sav’s room. She went over to the bed and looked down. He and Amber were snuggled together sleeping, so she decided not to bother them and went in search of Joe’s room. He too was already asleep, she removed her clothes and slid under the covers with him, moving as close as she could without waking him up.
