A/N: Okay, no I have not disappeared off the face of the planet, and yes, I am still working on this story (and my other ones as well - along with a few that I'm not posting until I finish them). So terribly sorry that it's taken me forever to update, life has been CRAZY. From going to countless concerts to school kicking me in the rear, it's been a crazy ride. And speaking of school - it's exam week, so I probably won't get around to the new chapters I have in mind until maybe next week - or after my huge term paper is finished. So here's to all my loverly readers and reviewbies. Mucho love to you all. *hugs* Enjoy!

Who knew it could be this hot in Chicago in the middle of September? Honestly, Becca thought she would melt just standing out here in the late afternoon sun. But she wasn’t complaining. Because she knew that if she was to complain, Ivy would have a fit. The ceremony had gone off without a hitch (surprisingly), and now they were back at the Wentz house for the reception. Becca and Cat had been sitting off to the side giggling over Pastor Robinson’s attempts to flirt with Mama Wentz, when Becca’s jaw dropped at the latest arrival.
Not only did Ivy’s mom show up to the wedding uninvited, but she was hanging on the arm of none other than Becca’s dad. Cat followed the line of Becca’s astonished gaze and whistled when she saw the sight as well. Becca shook her head and just stood before stalking over to stand in front of her father, with her hands on her hips. But it seemed that both Pete and Ivy had seen the appearance too, and they were at Becca’s side within seconds of her reaching her father.
“Daddy?!” Becca shook her head, unable to form the thoughts into words. She pointed to Ivy’s mom with a huff of agitation. “Honestly! Her?” Becca shook her head before giving another agitated huff and walking off. She knew that it would be best for her to just walk away before she did or said something that she would regret later. Because everyone knew that she had a horrible temper, but even she didn’t want to get upset and cause a scene at Pete and Ivy’s wedding reception.
Becca merely brushed past Mama Wentz, insisting that she was only going into the house to bring out more of the finger sandwiches that they had spent the morning finishing up. But when she got into the house, she headed for the living room, only to bump into Jon coming out of the restroom. “Oh, sorry, was just heading in here to check the music.”
Jon raised an eyebrow before shaking his head. “I don’t think so, Becs. Not only is the music fine, but it’s set up in the office, not the living room. So, what’s eating you?” Jon crossed his arms and blocked the hallway to where she couldn’t maneuver around him.
Becca scowled and crossed her arms over her chest before sighing. Jon would get the truth out of her if he had to stand there in his suit the entire reception. He was just that stubborn when it came to things like this. “Dad showed up with Ivy’s mom clinging to his arm like some filthy leech. It’s horrible. Honestly, it makes me sick. Because Ivy’s mom wasn’t invited because we’re all seriously worried about what she might do.”
Becca was almost on the verge of tears, and she didn’t even know why. Jon shook his head before pulling her into a hug. He was like a big teddy bear of a brother, and Becca was calmed almost instantly by it. She was glad she had such friends like she did. Because goodness knows what might have happened to her if she didn’t have the amazing support group that she did.
“Thanks Jon. Honestly. I don’t know why this is so upsetting, but thanks for being here. Even if it was sort of by accident. Goodness knows that I need friends like you all the time. A twenty-four hour support system always on call.” Becca laughed as she pulled back and left a kiss on his cheek. She laughed and started off towards the living room again, still needing a little more time on her own and away from the chaos of the reception.
Becca sat down on the living room couch and pulled her legs up underneath her and leaned her head back against the couch, closing her eyes for just a moment. As she did so, she heard a conversation in the kitchen, and tried her best to ignore it, given that it didn’t have anything to do with her. But she couldn’t help realizing that it was sounding like Mickey was upset about something.
That seemed to be happening more often, from what Spencer had said the other day after a particularly heated moment. She hoped that it wasn’t anything having to do with her, or Jon’s disappearance from the reception. Because the last thing that she needed was for him to get into trouble with Mickey just for having decided to help out with her little panic attack.
Just before she could fall asleep, Becca noticed someone else in the room. She opened her eyes and looked up to see Spencer standing there looking both worried and at the same time strangely amused. “What’s up, Spencey?”
“Good, you’re awake and not unconscious. I would hate to think that I had to find a way to wake you up. Because trust me, Reby, you’re not pretty when you get woken up from naps. I should know, I think I still have the battle scars to prove it.” Spencer playfully cowered at the mock scowl Becca gave him.
“You do not, Spencer, so stop pretending that I have scarred you in any way. And now stop avoiding the question. What’s up? Or should I ask what I owe the pleasure of your sudden company?” Becca laughed as she shifted over a little to let Spencer sit down on the couch with her. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder as he did so and she leaned her head on his shoulder almost out of habit. It was something that they had did for a while.
Spencer could tell that there was something up with Becca, but he didn’t know what it was. He had heard something from Jon for a second before Jon had been pulled back off by Mickey. He was sure to be getting an earful from her, and that was an understatement. Apparently something had gotten Mickey started on her warpath again, and Spencer was just glad that he was out of the way of that little mess. He wasn’t looking forward to hearing the other side of that issue more than he was guessing Jon was liking having that side of the issue yelling at him around the other side of the house to try and keep from starting a fuss at Pete and Ivy’s wedding reception.
“Spencey, you’re stalling. What’s up?” Becca had her eyes closed and was close to dozing off, but she wasn’t going to give in that easily. Besides, it wouldn’t exactly look good to fall asleep at the wedding reception of her brother and now sister-in-law. Especially since she was the maid of honor. But that had always been a good thing about Spencer. He was a great cuddle buddy and pillow.
Spencer sighed as Becca seemed to be near sleep. He knew that she wasn’t sleeping well since all the wedding issues had hit full force, along with the incident with the sleeping pills. Becca hadn’t taken any of the sleeping pills since the accident, and thus she wasn’t sleeping as well as she normally had been. So he hated to tell her the reason he had come looking for her, when it seemed that she was so close to a nap that would surely help her with the sleeplessness she was having.
But of course he knew that she wouldn’t keep still long enough for her to fall asleep, especially given her curiosity about the reasoning for why he was here with her. And while she might be incredibly sleepy, Becca was not going to give up. So he just sighed and tried to keep from shifting too much in case she still wanted to grab a quick power nap.
“Your dad left. Things got pretty crazy right after you walked out, and he just decided it would be best if he left. He gave Pete his best wishes and left, Ivy’s mom pulled along. So you don’t have to worry about that now. The maid of honor can come out of hiding now.” Spencer laughed as he said this last bit, fully expecting to get in trouble. But he smiled as Becca seemed to sleepily snuggle up to him even more.
“Good. Now there shouldn’t be drama for Petey’s day. Spencey, you make a great pillow. Do you know that?” Becca’s voice was slurring just a little with the edge of sleep, causing Spencer to smile. He knew that she would probably hate him for letting her sleep during the reception. But at the same time, he couldn’t help but let her sleep for at least a little while, given that she had been so tired and worn out lately.
“I’ve heard that before, Reby. Why don’t you just sit here and take a quick nap? I’ll go and make sure nobody thinks you’ve ran off into hiding. I’m sure at least Patrick is wondering where you disappeared off to.” Spencer moved to slip out from Becca’s embrace and settle her gently on the couch to be more comfortable. Because he knew that he would probably have at least one person curious as to where Becca was hiding. And he would hate to have Becca wake up with a sore neck from bad positioning. Because that would very likely end up with him in trouble and hurting.
“Nnm. Don’a let me seep too long, kay Spenz?” Becca’s language had slipped even farther as she yawned and closed her eyes, letting herself slip into sleep. Spencer smiled to himself as he shook his head and took off his suit jacket to drape over Becca, despite it being fairly warm outside. He chuckled to himself as he walked back out to the reception.
