Rock of Ages, Forever Pt84
Sav stirred and sat up slowly, dizziness overtook him and he waited for the room to stop spinning before he opened his eyes. His mouth was as dry as a desert and he was hungry. Waiting for the dizziness to subside, he glanced around the room, he didn’t recognize it. The only thing that was in there, was the bed that he sat on. Turning more so he could see what was behind him, the bars several feet away came into full focus. He stood up and approached them. Panic began to overwhelm him as he was spiraled back in time to those years with Nick locked in that cell.
'Not again.' He thought. 'I can’t do this again. But why would Nick do this? We have been getting along fine, better now than we have in the past. Why take Joe and Amber.' At that thought, he franticly searched the room, reaching out with his mind to find them. Straining against the bars to see better, Sav saw Joe further down the long room. He was in a barred room similar to his, but smaller. He lay facing Sav on his side sleeping. That's when he noticed the bruise on his jaw and the busted lip. Sav nearly boiled with rage at the thought that some one did that to him. Straining harder against the bars he tried to see more. Where was Amber? Fear gripped his insides, and he had trouble breathing. He shook the bars forcefully and found his voice.
“Joe, wake up…come on wake up…where is Amber?” He continued yelling and shaking the bars harder. “Joe!”
“Will you be quite.” A deep voice said a few feet from him.
Sav spun in that direction, his breath caught in his throat. “Marcus.”
“There’s no need to yell, he can’t here you.” Marcus told him.
“What are you doing? Let me out of here.”
“No.”
“Where’s Amber, what have you done with her?” Sav asked hurriedly.
“Oh she quiet alright. She’ll sleeping in my bed.” He told him with a smug grin.
“I don’t believe you, let me see her.”
“She’s sleeping.”
”Let me out so I can go to her.”
Marcus thought about it a moment. “No, that’s not a good idea. You’ll have to wait until she wakes up.”
“So help me Marcus, if you hurt her.” Sav said angrily.
“I’m not that cruel.”
“Then take her home and Joe. It’s me you want, not them.”
“They are my bargaining chip to keep you in line.”
“I’ll do anything you ask. Please just let them go.” Sav pleaded.
Marcus titled his head to the side, a sly smile touching his lips to see Sav groveling at his feet, “Maybe in time, but for now they stay.”
Sav gave the bars another hard shake, then hissed between clenched teeth, “Nick will kill you for this.”
“It was his idea.”
“You’re lying.” Sav shot back.
“And you trust him to much.” Marcus laughed. “He has grown weary of you, and your little friends. He has given you the chance to leave, but you just won’t go away. He wants to be rid of you, so he can go off to find a new toy to amuse himself with.”
“That’s a fucking lie and I know it. Why would he still keep me on such a tight rein?”
“He has!” Marcus shot his brow up in surprise. “Then why would he let me take you like I have?”
“Because your sick twisted mind knew you couldn’t get away with it, if Nick knew anything about it.”
Marcus went over to a desk and pulled out a piece of paper. He brought it back over to Sav and handed it to him through the bars. “Read this you’ll find what I say to be the truth.” Marcus told him. “It’s his response to a correspondence that I wrote him about what I would liked to do.”
Sav quickly scanned the letter. From what it said Nick had given Marcus his consent in the whole affair. But he had to promise that the child is not to be harmed in any way. It didn’t matter too much to him what he did with Sav and Joe.
“This is not Nick’s hand writing.” Sav told him matter-of-factly.
“I assure you, it is.”
“He would not agree to this, you know it and so do I!”
“Then why are you here now?” Marcus said dryly. “Must not be that tight if you are here.”
“You sonofabitch, he doesn’t know!” Sav crumbled up the paper and threw it at him.
Marcus ignored his remark and looked down at the paper as it landed at his feet. “Now that we have gotten reacquainted. I have a few ground rules you must follow.”
Sav’s demeanor sank with dread.
“First off, let me remind you that I’m aware of your strength. It is superior to anyone I know of, except when it is four against one.” he sneered. “It rivals even Nick's. Why you never used it against us those times, I’ll never understand. So in keeping that to a minimum, I’ll administer a drug to you every day, that you will accept without any backlash. You will obey everything that is asked of you. You will submit to my every whim no matter what it entails. You will keep that sharp tongue of yours in your mouth. Any time you do not obey me. The lovely Mr. Elliott will pay for your actions in a harsh way.”
“Is that a threat Marcus?” Sav asked coolly. “Sounds like a threat to me.”
“No, it’s a promise. I learned my lesson on threatening Mr. Elliott. I understand that he is to be brought across soon.”
Sav refused to answer him.
“He is strong like you. Many times I have seen one brought across as he is doing now, only they never survived. It proved to be to much for their mind and body to handle. From what I hear, it’s quiet painful. But you’ve taken care of that haven’t you? Entering his mind to comfort him when ever the pain gets to be to much for him.” Marcus was enjoying himself to no end. “Perhaps I’ll finish the job for you.”
“He would never come back if you did. Then what bargaining chip would you have?”
“Ah, lets not forget the child. I know she’s not yours, but you care for her a great deal.”
“You wouldn’t.” Sav growled lowly.
“Don’t force me to.” Marcus said coldly.
Sav growled and spun away from him. He went over to lean on the wall. His hands flat against it, arms stretched out as he hung his head between them.
“Do we have an agreement then?” Marcus asked.
“Do I have a choice?”
“Not really.” Marcus replied.
Taking a deep breath he said just above a whisper. “Fine, I’ll do whatever you ask.”
“It’ll make your stay here much more pleasant if you do.”
“I said I would Marcus, ok!” Sav yelled.
Marcus glared at him a moment from his out burst. “You must be getting hungry, I’ll bring you something.”
A few minutes later Marcus brought out a bottle and two glasses. Setting them on the table by the bars, he poured the blood wine, then took out a small vile of clear liquid, this he added to Sav's glass then passed it to him through the bars.
“To long and lasting relationships.” he said hold his glass up.
Sav glared at him over the rim of his glass, but said nothing. He gulped down his drink, easily tasting the bitter drug the blood wine was laced with and handed the glass back to Marcus.
He smiled brightly at Sav. “This is a wonderful start.”
“For you maybe.”
“Now, now Richard, mind your tongue.”
Sav turned from him and went to stand on the far side of the room. His mind already racing to find way to get out of here, before anything serious happened to Joe or Amber. It was only a matter of time and he would have to play his cards right in every way. He dreaded the thought of what Marcus was going to make him do to have his fun and hoped that he could keep him away from Joe, at all cost.

The time passed for when Joe and Sav where to return home and Rebecca started to worry. Joe had never kept Amber out this late, even when Sav was with him on previous trips. Finally around 11pm, she went to Phil and told him that they weren’t home yet. He didn’t know what do after Rebecca told him that this was not like them to stay out this late with Amber.
After exhausting all possibilities they went to Nick. He offered to fly into the city and look around for them. Phil and Rebecca sat around and talked while they waited on him to return. The longer he was gone, the more upset she became, until he stumbled in the house just as the sun was gracing the horizon. He told them that he didn’t find them and immediately was on the phone making calls to some friends on the police force. He called in favors that they owed him. And the search for them was underway. Nick didn’t sleep the first day and well into the night. He was either on the phone with someone or just sitting in the small office staring off in the distance.
Days later Rebecca was almost hysterical with worry. Everyone did what they could to help her and hide their own worry at the same time. Phil finally had to call a doctor in to give Rebecca some sedatives to help keep her calm and to rest a little easier. She told the doctor that she couldn’t have anything to strong because she was pregnant.
Everyone in the house was taken back by the news that she was. Joe had wanted another child before it was to late for him. She only hoped that Joe would be home to see his baby when he/she was born.
Nick stormed around the house like a raging tornado several times. Everyone stayed as far away as they could. He would leave every night to do his own searching and come home grumbling. He could be heard screaming in the phone on several occasions at someone for there lack of ability of find Sav.
Phil approached him one night shortly after he had such a call.
“You’re only worried about finding Sav. You don't care about Joe and Amber. You would probably be glad they might be dead, so long as Sav is alright.”
Nick spun on him, the anger raced across the lines of exhaustion in his face. “How dare you say that to me!” he yelled. “When I’m doing everything in my power to find all of them.”
“The rest of us don’t see it that way Nick.” Phil said calmly.
“I care a great deal about that child and Mr. Elliott. Why else would I put them under my protection if I didn’t?”
“So you would look caring in Sav's eyes. Maybe for Joe, so he wouldn't hate you so much?” Phil shot back. “It seems that your so called protection, didn’t work this time.”
“Someone is going to pay dearly for this. I promise you that.” Nick fell back in his chair, taking a deep breath to calm his anger. “I apologize for my out burst Mr. Collen. It is not directed at you.”
“Can you feel him?” Phil asked out of the blue.
Nick looked up at him. “You seem to know a lot about us.”
“I’ve learned a lot from reading your journals and talking with Sav. Although this mind bonding thing is a little confusing, but I know its real.”
“Maybe I’ll explain it better to you sometime, but not until I find them. To answer your question. No I cannot, not for awhile anyway. If he were seriously hurt, perhaps in danger, he would open himself to me, but he hasn't. I could find him if he were.”
“I sure hope your right Nick, for Rebecca sake.” Phil told him.
Nick rubbed his dry, exhausted eyes, “How is she? I understand she’s pregnant?”
“Fine, considering the circumstances. Although we’re all worried about her health and that of the baby.”
“I’ll hire someone to constantly look after her.” Nick suggested.
“Just find them and she will be fine, along with the rest of us.”
Before Nick could answer, the phone rang, he snatched it up. “Knight.”
Phil had to smile at the way he answered the phone. He was in his Detective mode now.
“Where...on my way.” he slammed the phone down and looked at Phil. “They found his car about fifteen miles outside the city.” Nick grabbed his gun from the desk draw, sticking it behind him in the waistband of his pants, under his jacket.
“Now why would you need that?” Phil asked pointing to the gun.
“I can’t go around killing mortals my way now can I? So I’ll use the gun, if necessary.”
“I’m coming with you.”
“I’m not driving Mr. Collen.” Nick informed him.
“And I’m not flying with you.”
“Fine.” Nick said and headed for the door.
Phil briefly told Rick where they were going and got in the car when Nick pulled around to the front door. Thirty-five minutes later he pulled the car to a stop along a heavily wooded road. Doug, the officer on the scene meet up him as he came closer.
“We haven’t touched anything Mr. de Brabant.”
“At least some one knows what they’re doing.” Nick grumbled. “Good job Doug,” Nick said over his shoulder as he made his way into the woods to the car that was about a hundred yards back.
Nick used all his senses as he looked over every inch of the car. He found several small drops of blood on the drivers side door. “Rick was injured during a struggle with some one.”
“How can you tell that?” Phil asked, squinting at the dark paint looking for the blood spots.
Nick shinned the flashlight on the door. “His blood is here….here and here. The force of the window breaking indicates that that he was shoved into it. Look at the dents here and here. He fought hard and there was more than one.”
“How do you know that?”
“One mortal man cannot take him. He is to strong, but even if there were three to five of them, they would still have to drug him.”
“I thought that drugs didn’t affect you.”
“Someone has developed some that do.” Nick informed. “I've used them on him before.”
“What about Joe and Amber, anything from them that you can see?”
“No, just their fading scent is all I can find.” Nick told him as he looked around at the other men that were scouring the area for any clues. “Where are the keys?”
“Haven’t found them yet.” Doug said.
“Doesn’t matter.” Nick replied, walking around to the trunk. He popped it open with ease. Inside were packages from the toy store. “Doug, have two men question the employees at this store for the day they disappeared. And the surrounding ones as well. Look in the road in front of this store to see if you can find anything. How ever small, bring it to me.”
"Yes sir, anything else?” Doug asked scribbling down notes.
“Have the car towed to the house.” Nick told and took the packages out and went back to his car, then got in.
Phil raced over to jump in before Nick drove away. "That's it? You aren't going to look for anything else."
"There is nothing else to find in that location."
"You don't know that, there could be something else there you missed."
Nick merely glanced at him, then back at the road. "Some one took them, of that, I'm certain now. I'm just not sure who it could be yet."
"But why, what could they have possibly done..."
"I don't know." Nick interrupted him in a tone that belayed he wasn't going to give his reasons of why.
Phil studied the man beside a moment, then swept his gaze to the dark, passing night. After a while his own mind would not rest with the question in his thoughts. “Did you liked being a detective?”
Nick looked over at him. “Yes I did, the outcome of most cases can be rewarding. Many times I found myself caring for the victims and their families.”
“I would never have guessed that.” Phil said.
“Guessed what?”
“That you would care about anyone else but yourself.”
“Then you don’t know me at all Mr. Collen.”
The remainder of the drive was in silence. Nick’s thoughts turned to the damage on the car and from what he had seen, he knew that Sav had struggled hard to keep who ever it was from taking him and tried to protect Joe and Amber.
When they arrived back at the house. Nick carried the packages in and sat them on the table. “This is all we found.”
Rebecca pulled out the toys. “They were taking her shopping at the toy store, to buy anything she wanted, both of them spoil her to much.” Tears slipped down her face.
“That’s not all we found.” Phil said.
Nick shot him a warning glare, he turned to leave the room and Rebecca stopped him.
“Nick, your closer to Sav than any of us. I know about this bond that he and Joe share and you have one much stronger than they do?”
Nick looked at her a moment. “Joseph is much closer to him than I am. No, I cannot feel him Miss Wallace. It may be because he is being given some kind of drug and it weakens our bond.” he said softly and was gone.
Rebecca hugged the teddy bear to her chest and began to cry. Phil pulled her into his arms and held her tight. Rick took her hand and squeezed gently to offer his support. It wasn’t to long after that when Phil took her upstairs and laid in bed with her, holding her close until she cried herself to sleep.
