Rock of Ages, Forever Pt89
Joe and Sav sleep far into the next night. Rebecca checked on them through out the day and always made sure that Sav had a fresh bottle of blood for when he did wake, knowing what the warm body beside him would do to him. She had sat on the bed just staring at both of them several times, having the two men that she loved the most back home and safe made her cry as she watched them sleep. One other time she sat there holding Joe and rocked him gently after a nightmare woke him. Once he had calmed down and began to drift back to sleep, Sav took over, wrapping both of his arms around Joe from behind, caressing his mind to help with the bad dream.
That’s how Nick found them, tangled around each other when he came into the room to wake Sav. A pang of jealousy shot through him at seeing them so close together. He knew this day would come, but it didn’t make it any easier on him to see them that way.
Sav was instantly awake when Nick touched him. “What is it?”
“We have to go.”
“Go where?”
“To the house where Marcus was holding you.”
“Why, I told you I killed him?”
“And I told you years ago, little pieces of wood will not kill a vampire of my age or that of Marcus.”
“What?” he said in disbelief. Sav looked down at Joe, suddenly afraid for him.
“Don’t worry. I have men surrounding the house just in cause he is not dead and comes here for revenge. Everyone here will be safe until we return.”
Sav scooted to the edge of the bed and Joe turned over, flopping his arm out. “Where are you going?”
“We have to go take care of something. Go back to sleep.” Sav told him. Not caring that Nick was in the room, he slipped on his jeans over his nude torso.
Joe darted his sleepy eyes back and forth between them. “What is it, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing, it’s alright.”
“Marcus isn’t dead is he?” Joe asked and sat up.
Sav leaned over the bed and lightly touched his face. “I’m not sure. Nick said he may not be and that’s what we’re going to find out.”
“But, I saw you kill him.”
“I just want to make sure Mr. Elliott.” Nick said and pulled Sav away from him. "There may be other dangers that we didn't anticipate."
"What..." Joe moved to get out of bed and searched for his pants. "What other dangers?"
“You should rest more.” Nick told him. "Rick and I can take of care of this."
“No, I’m getting up. I have a family to protect from that bastard.”
“That’s already been taken care of, you’re perfectly safe here.” Nick tried to reassure him.
“Yeah just like we were perfectly safe when he took us the first time.” Joe shot back.
“I had no idea he was going to do that Mr. Elliott, you must understand that.”
“He’s right Joe. He didn’t know anything about it.”
“Do you mind?” Joe said and looked at Nick.
Nick turned around to look elsewhere until Joe had pulled on his pants and stood up. A small wave of dizziness hit him and he grabbed the post on the bed.
“Joe, please lay back down.”
“No, I’m going downstairs.” And proceeded to head for the door.
“You’re very stubborn Mr. Elliott.” Nick said and took his arm while Sav finished dressing.
“Yeah and you love it too.”
“Wouldn’t have it any other way.” Nick smiled at him. “It’s nice to know that part of you didn’t die while you were there.”
“And neither did my hatred for you Nick.”
“Oh come now, after all this time, you still hate me.”
“Even more now, thanks to your friend Marcus.”
“Well, I shall make sure that any of my friends that you meet in the future, know where I stand in regards to you and the others.”
“Oh yeah and where is that?”
“Don’t touch or harm in any way or the consequence could prove fatal.”
“That makes me feel so much better.” Joe said, sarcasm dripping from his words.
“I did miss our banter of words back and forth Mr. Elliott.”
“I bet you did. No one here to get your hackles up Nick?”
“No one would rise to the challenge.”
“Then I look forward to them again, and I like challenges.” Joe smiled back at him.
Sav listened to them as they went down the hall. He had to smile to himself at the wittiness they showed each other and the game they have played ever since they met.
Rebecca looked up as they came into the living room. “Joe what are you doing up, you should still be resting?”
“Maybe you can talk some sense into him Rebecca. He doesn’t seem to want to listen to me.” Nick said to her.
“As if I ever did.” Joe mumbled. “Oh I forgot, Nick knows best.”
“Where your health is concerned, yes I do.”
“Since when did you become a doctor?”
“During the Civil War I practiced medicine.”
“I thought you said the Revolutionary War?” Joe countered.
“I was in both.”
“And what was your specialty. The art of taking ones blood?”
Sav fell all over himself laughing at Joe’s remark and Nick shot him a warning glare.
“Sorry Nick, good one Joe.”
“No Mr. Elliott. I tried to save lives during that time, not take them, only when they begged me too.”
“Will I have to put up with this for the next twenty years from you two?” Rebecca asked.
“But it’s so much fun.” Joe smirked.
“I have to agree with you.” Nick put in.
Joe looked at him with surprise. “He agrees with me, now that’s a first.”
“Well I would like to stay here and throw words back and forth with you Mr. Elliott, something I rather missed while you were away. But we must be going.”
“It has been a pleasure as always Nick.”
“Just don’t push yourself while we are gone.” Nick told him.
“I’ll try not to Doctor Nick.”
Nick smiled at him and turned on his heels and spoke to Sav. “Shall we.”
“In a minute.” He went over to Rebecca and Joe. “Don’t get yourself overly tired Joe.”
“I shall do my very best.” Joe grinned widely up at him.
Nick stopped and turned back around to looked at Joe a moment. Then started laughing at Joe's choice of words that almost mirrored his own.
“Now that’s something you don’t hear everyday.” Joe remarked. “There maybe hope for you after all Nick.”
“I certainly hope so Mr. Elliott….Rick we must go.”
Sav quickly kissed Rebecca on the cheek. “We’ll be back soon ok.” he glanced at Joe again before he followed Nick out the door.
“Where are they going?”
“To make sure Marcus is dead.”
“But I thought that….”
”So did I.” Joe cut her off. Rebecca could hear the worried tone in his voice as he watched them leave.
“You don’t think that he is do you?”
“He has to be. I mean, I watched Sav drive a stake through him all the way into the ground.”
“Then why do you sound worried?”
“I don’t know, maybe I’m reading too much into it.”
“Nick is with him if something goes wrong and you know how possessive he is.”
“Yea I do.”
“Then don’t worry, everything will be fine.”
Joe looked down at her and reached up to touch her face. “If I had the energy. I would take you upstairs and make love to you all night.”
“There is plenty of time for that later. And besides, my belly would be in the way.”
Joe placed his hand on her stomach and felt the baby kick.
“Come on, lets get comfortable on the couch. The baby is restless and you can feel him all night if you want to.”
Rebecca sat down and Joe stretched out on the couch so he could feel the baby move around. Rebecca picked up her book and began to read out loud to him. Joe closed his eyes and listened to the softness of her voice, it soon lulled him back to sleep.

Standing out in front of the house, Sav glanced around the dark landscape. He had already expressed his feelings that he didn't have the energy to fly, so Nick suggested getting a safe car for them. Digging his hands in his pockets, Sav dreading going back to that place. The memories were still too fresh in his mind, but Nick had insisted that he take him there. Once Nick pulled up to the front steps, Sav reluctantly climbed into the passenger seat, giving him direction on where to go. Through out the next hour, Nick kept glancing over at him, he wanted to reach out to touch him too make sure he wasn’t dreaming and he was actually there.
“Nick, will you stop looking at me.” Sav said and shifted nervously in his seat. “Makes me nervous when you do that.”
“That wasn’t my intention.” Nick started. “Why would it make you nervous the way I look at you?”
“Because I never know what you’re thinking, what you might do.”
Nick looked back to the road, “If you would only open yourself to me, then you would know what I’m thinking.”
“I don’t have too, I already know. Your thinking about how to punish me for my relationship with Joe and Rebecca. So which one is it going to be this time? Just a harsh beating, chains or cage.”
“You always perceive that I will do those things to you now.”
“Why not? It’s all you know how to do, it doesn’t matter anymore...” Sav waved his hand in the air “...whatever you do will not change my feelings for Joe and where our relationship is going now.”
“I always knew that this day would come. I couldn’t stop it no more than I could stop myself from wanting you and still do.”
Sav looked over at him. Nothing else was said for a long time until Sav finally had to ask him the question that he has wanted to ask for a long time. “Are you ever going to get over this obsession you have for me and let me go?”
Nick thought about it before he answered. “No.”
Sav ran his hand through his hair and took a deep breath. ”I’ll still go to him and his bed, weather you like it or not.”
“You’re still denying yourself of what you want.”
“Well I just couldn’t get what I wanted considering he was in one cage and I was in the other. If it hadn’t been for that, all of that, yes I would have.” Sav lowered his voice and told Nick what was on his mind. “Last night when Marcus brought him to me was the first time in months that we had been that close together, just one touch from him and I lost it, everything I was thinking just flew out the window, I wanted him so bad, to feel him, to touch him everywhere and in everyway, then I saw Marcus sitting there watching us and……”
Nick let him talk and get his frustrations out in the open, for entire ride, only prompting him when he stopped, “And.”
“And I had to stop myself, took everything I had to do that. Then I asked Marcus to join us. I’ll never forget the look in Joe’s eyes, I deceived him when I did that, but I had to, just had to...no matter what. I knew Marcus would be to intent on having us both, that he wouldn’t be paying attention to what I was doing and I…..broke his neck.”
“You did what you had to Rick. I can’t fault you for that. You did everything to protect Joe from him. You don’t have to explain how you feel about him to me, because it’s the same for me.” Nick had turned in his seat and leaned against the door to watch him as he talked. “And the passion in your voice says a lot more than your words.”
Sav turned to him. “Then you understand?”
”Yes, more than I did before.”
Nick leaned forward and ran his fingers tips along his jaw, brushed his lips softly with his. He didn’t feel any resistance from Sav and probed his lips with his tongue to let him in. Nick pulled away first, tracing his bottom lip with his thumb.
“I fully understand your desire for Joe.”
“Um…we…this is the place.” Sav mumbled, and moved to get out of the car. Nick followed and stood beside him, looking around. Smoke still rose from the house as the last smoldering embers died away. “I um…sat the house on fire. I don’t know what made me do that.”
“So no one would ever step inside, to feel the evil of this place.” Nick told him. “I can feel it myself.”
Sav walked a short distance away and stopped, looking down at the ground. Nick squatted and ran his fingers threw the pile off ashes that was left of Marcus.
“The sonofabitch is dead. He deserved every bit of pain he got from the sun, too bad I wasn’t here to see him suffer.”
“Now you can put this all behind you.” Nick said as he stood up.
“It’s not going to be that easy Nick. I can deal with what he did to me, it’s Joe that may hav……” his voice trailed off as he looked around the grounds. An uneasy feeling slowly crept through him.
“What is it?” Nick asked him, puzzled at his behavior. “I don't feel anything.”
“I don’t…I had the same sensations the night of the fire at our home. Like someone was watching us.”
“Marcus was responsible for the fire, to draw us out.”
“No…no it wasn’t him, it was someone else…I felt it here also during those months..." Sav spun to face Nick, suddenly remembering who the other could be. Why he didn't figure it out before, he could only guess that he was so consumed with keeping Joe safe, it didn't dawn on him at all. "I know who it...”
They didn’t see the blur until it slammed into Sav's back. Nick regained his balance after the two men hit his shoulder, sending him stumbling back a few feet. The force of the impact threw Sav several feet before he hit the ground on his stomach, knocking the wind from his lungs. The rocks and sticks biting into his arms and chest. He felt the strong arm go around his neck, roughly pulling him up.
“You killed my lover of many centuries and now it is time for you to die.” he hissed in Sav’s ear and tightened his hold.
“He got what he deser… aahhh!” Sav yelled as the man twisted his neck.
“You are weak Rick.”
“But I’m not Dominic.” Nick growled, grabbing his hair and yanked his head back.
“Pull harder and I’ll snap his neck.” Dominic barely managed to hiss out.
Testing his word, Nick pulled a little harder and leaned closer to his face. He heard Sav cry out from the pain as Dominic twisted more. “I warned both of you a long time ago to never touch him again.” Nick said calmly. With lightening speed, Nick had him by the throat and ripped it out with his bare hand. He shoved Dominic aside off of Sav. He watched him wither on the ground a few minutes, holding what was left of his throat, before he straddled his legs. Nick pulled out the knife from his boot and made a long gash in Dominic stomach, plunging his hand deep inside his body and gripped his heart. Leaning down so that Dominic could see his eyes.
“Now you can join your lover in death.” And with a hard yank, Nick ripped out his heart. He didn’t move until he was sure that Dominic was dead. Rising to his feet, he threw the blooded heart as hard as he could off into the woods for the animals to eat when they found it.
Turning back to where Sav still lay on the ground, he shed his coat and wiped the blood away that had spilled down on him. Then pulled him to his feet, holding him tight against his chest until his breathing slowed. Sav laid his head back on Nick’s shoulder, exposing his throat to him. Even in the aftermath of what just happened, Nick couldn’t hold himself back and sank his fangs into the soft flesh. Sav sucked in his breath and felt Nick shuddered. All too soon he withdrew and ran his tongue over the softness of his throat to catch the last few drops of blood.
“Come, let us leave this place and never look back.” Nick whispered. He maneuvered Sav to the car and pushed him into the passenger seat. Nick drove them home. Sav only said a few words to him for the entire ride. Thanking him for saving his life again. Nick reminded him that he would do anything for him as long as he lived.
