Chapter Ten - Talent Vs Temperament
‘The problems with being famous. Shall we list? Big Paycheck, even bigger security/agent/travel/living/grooming/presentation costs. Everyone knows you, and they don’t leave you alone. Stereo cast as an elf . . . do not have blond hair.’ He was bored, as usual. Yet another PR meeting to wallow through.
His agent elbowed him as he slipped a little deeper into his chair. ‘Millions of women want sex, yet only want one.’ He smiled as he thought of Hannah. His little musician.
“Orlando? Are you listening?”
He mentally and physically sat up straight again and tried to pay attention. “Yeah, what was that?”
His agent, Fiona, gave him an expectant look. “The Baker movie that I sent you the script for two weeks ago. Have you read it?”
He d’oh!ed inside his head. He had been too preoccupied. “Sure did. I loved it. When does filming start?”
Fiona raised her eyebrows in surprise. “I didn’t think you wanted to do another drug addict piece after all the bad shit that came from the last two.”
He smacked himself in the head this time. Why was he so brain dead lately. Oh yeah, Hannah. He smiled again and heard Fiona groan. She turned to his American agent, and his publicist. “I guess we’re not getting anywhere today. Why don’t you get me those two scripts I asked for, and Jean, we need another charity event, and quick. Something in France might be nice.”
Orlando wasn’t listening as the two women and the man discussed his career and his future. His present was all that mattered to him. It was January 8th. His birthday was two days away, and there was going to be some sweet shit going down. Fiona yanked him to his feet and he grumbled about being up so early and meeting with grumpy Englishwomen.
The Englishwoman growled back at him. “Well, if you didn’t spend your nights boozing and sleeping with hussies, than these meetings would go a lot smoother.”
He stopped quickly, and she was momentarily jerked backwards. “Is that what you think I do? Drink and fornicate? For God’s sake I’m not a moron. I know how to control myself.” They started to walk again. “Besides, my girlfriend wouldn’t approve.”
This time, it was Fiona’s turn to stop. “Girlfriend? Why didn’t you tell me about a girlfriend?”
“It’s a new thing. We just ‘officially’ hooked up a few days ago, and you know how often I talk to you when I don’t have something going on.”
She laughed, breaking the earlier gloom. “Very true Bloom, very true. We’ll just have to remedy that. Perhaps you’d like to bring your girlfriend to my house for dinner tonight. Roe is back in town for a few days.”
Orlando contemplated it for a few seconds. Fiona’s husband Roger was one of his closest mates, and they didn’t see enough of each other either. But, he couldn’t. He had special plans for Hannah. “Sorry Fi. I can’t. I have other plans for tonight, if you know what I mean.”
He winked conspiratorially and he could have sworn herd hrd her giggle a little. “All right. That’s fine. Just remember that we’re meeting again in four days time, and you have a flight that leaves for Tokyo at 7 on Friday.”
He nodded, and moved off along the hall. As the doors to the elevator opened, he was relieved to find the mirrored cubical empty. He entered, pushed the first floor button, and leaned back against the railing. As his head connected with the wall lightly, he smiled. He was falling in love.
~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~
“Orlando, what a nice surprise!”
He grinned in happiness at the woman standing in front of him, clad in only a robe and pajama pants. “Did you forget about our date?”
“Date?” A cloud of forgetfulness crossed Hannah’s face as she mentally racked her brain. She didn’t remember anything about a date. And she would have remembered if he would have said something. “No, I don’t. I’m sorry.”
Instead of being disappointed, as Hannah was sure he would be, his smile never faltered. “Well, that’s good because I haven’t asked you about it yet. Hannah, would you like to come back to my place and have dinner with me, please?”
He turned on the puppy eyes and she melted into a puddle of goo on the floor. “I am in no mood to go out of my house Orlando.” She giggled as he scoffed and looked her up and down.
“You look fine to me and besides, I’m the only one who will see you and I don’t care what you’re wearing, or not wearing.” His eyes darkened by a fraction and his voice lowered a notch. A shiver went up her spine when she saw the message being clearly broadcast. He was going to seduce her. Did she want to be seduced? Oh yes, oh she did.
“Yeah, I guess I could go for some food. What are you having?”
“A recipe I picked up on my travels to India. Some curry and delicious soup. You’ll love it.”
“India?” She gazed at him in near-amazement. “Is there anywhere on this world that you haven’t been to?”
He looked her dead in the eyes, and she stilled all body movement. “Sometimes, it feels like I haven’t, but then I always meet someone new and go to somewhere I’ve never been before.”
Hannah knew he was talking about her, but didn’t want to acknowledge it. He was become irresistible to her, and that was something amazing unto it’s self. He was a movie star, she was a musician. His world and hers did not mix well.
