The next morning I woke up early to prepare breakfast, although I had hardly slept a wink. By the time the bacon began to crackle in the pan Chereese was peeking into the kitchen, Mark in her arms.
"Good morning!" She said in her normal cheery voice.
"Good morning! How was your night?" I asked.
"It was good. Babies are easy. Don’t call on me when they turn two then your on your own." She said putting Marky in his bouncer. "How was your evening?"
"It was good. We didn’t come in too late but you were already asleep." I replied.
"Who gives a damn what time you came in? Did you tell him?" She asked.
"Yes, I told him." I replied
"See? You’re going to make me come over this counter and hurt you. Cut to the chase. I swear."
"All I’ll say is that you were right. I was wrong and thank you." I said, never once looking from the pancake batter I was stirring.
"You have such a flare for the damn dramatic." She said running around the counter and giving me a hug. "So now we have to get you some baby bottles and diapers,...OOPS you already have all of that."
"Stop being a smart ass and just comfort me." I said to her pretending to pout.
She grabbed some fruit out of the refrigerator, washed it and started to cut it. We were chatting constantly until Vin strutted into the kitchen carrying Mark’s female counter part.
“Good Morning.” He said.
He came over, gave me a peck and went over to put Miracle in her bouncer. Clearing his throat he sat down and cracked the morning paper.
"I know you were talking about me." He said. "Like I would even believe you were cooking in this kitchen this quiet. Not with the mouth on that women right there." He pointed at me.
"What?" I said as if he was telling an untruth.
"So come on. Congratulate me before I put you on the first plane back to Miami." He said laughing.
I threw a strawberry at him. He caught without haste.
"Congratulations! Old Baldy." Chereese said returning the joking sentiment, her southern accent ringing out clearly.
"I don’t care." He said popping the strawberry into his mouth. "My baby likes my head. Ain’t that right baby?" He tickled Miracle’s belly and she gave him all the smiling, kicking, and squealing reinsurance he needed.
He sat there rocking in his chair like a school-boy with a crush for a second and Mark was just as giddy. He was laughing and no one had tickled him.
"I know that’s your son. He’s silly just like you, but he is cute." Chereese remarked laughing.
"Hell No." Vin screamed out laughing. "Get the airline on the phone, Keshia. She’s gone to far now."
"Geesh, can you two at least get through breakfast without feuding. Before you know it you’ll be talking about each others Mama’s." I said.
They both turned to me, and then one another and burst into a chatter of, "Don’t think I wouldn’t do it. Don’t tempt me."
I felt like a 5th grade teacher on the school-yard but the comic relief was refreshing. After breakfast Chereese and I scurried off with Mark and Miri to prepare for our trip to the San Diego Zoo today. Vin disappeared into the office to play a little catch up on my script synopsis’. Within the hour we were piling into my truck and on our way to the zoo. Vin and I had discussed trading in my car because with the two car seats there wasn’t room for much else. Now knowing that baby number three is in the making we know we made the right choice. Vin and I shopped online for a month trying to decide which would be better a mini-van or a SUV. Finally deciding on the Lexus LX 470 series, I contacted a dealer and placed an order with all the custom features one girl could want. It was a big truck, a definite change from my Honda I’d had since I was twenty-three. I was afraid to drive it at first but before long I had gotten use to it. It was spacious and I could get the babies in and out with ease.
By the time we were done dressing, Vin had all our things loaded into the truck strollers diaper bags and car seats. All we had to do was strap Mark and Miracle in and hit the road. Vin made sure I took the sun screen with me for the babies and I. He kissed me and we were off to pick up Dragon and the kids. Mia was leaving her house, she and Michael would be meeting us there. Angie had been out of the picture as she was enjoying her new found commitment. They’d picked the date of April 5th of the following year to be married. She and I had already made a date for next week to start the planning.
When we arrived at the zoo I know we looked like the Brady’s as we all filed from the cars. Three babies, strollers, diaper bags, two eight year olds and as many adults. There were so many of us we should have received a group rate. It was a cool day to be outside. Although the sun was shining, there was a cool breeze blowing. Nothing like the hot and sticky weather back in Miami. Mark and Miri were dressed in jean material. Mark a pair of shorts and a yellow button down top. Miri on the other hand had on a jean dress with a yellow, cotton, polo shirt. They looked very cute. I always tried my best to dress them similar but not exactly alike. I wanted them to know that although they were twins they were individuals.
Tyler and Taylor enjoyed the zoo more then the little ones. They enjoyed reading the information posted by the cages. We all took turns reading them and the animals were in rare form. The peacocks were strutting and the monkeys swung and put on a show for all the passers by. The big cats, which were always my favorite, laid out basking in the afternoon sun. Mark and Miri were in rare form, buzzing and cooing and blowing raspberries.
After cruising the zoo for an hour or so,we were ready for our picnic. We picked out a shady spot with a picnic table while Chereese and Dragon went to retrieve the food from the truck. When they returned with the cooler, we pigged-out on sandwiches, chips, pretzels fruit. Taylor and Tyler persuaded Dragon to buy them pizza and fries. There was a massive amount of food on the table. The twins sat in there strollers making their usual noise and watching the food like hawks. Finally giving in I gave each of them a pretzel. Mark devoured his and promptly cried from more. Miracle gnawed on hers for a little while before dropping it and crying. My babies he just had there first taste of table food and they loved it. Michael had a ball being chased through the grass after lunch by Drags two. He was such a happy little toddler hardly any trouble at all. I only pray that when Mark and Miri are two they are as pleasant.
By the time we left the zoo all the kids were tuckered out. Everyone was out like a light for the drive home. Chereese attempted to stay up and keep me company for the drive but she was soon asleep. I enjoyhe qhe quiet myself. I couldn’t remember the last time it was so quiet. It just left me with my thoughts. I looked in my rear view and I could see my munchkins fast asleep in the back. "I am so blessed." I thought to myself as I thought about their Daddy and rubbed my tummy. It was just after five o clock and when my cell phone rang I knew exactly who it was.
"Hey, Papa Bear." I said putting in my ear piece.
"How many animals do they have at that zoo?" He said sounding a little pissed.
"I am on my way home now." I said laughing at his question.
"So, how was it? Did Mark and Miracle like the animals?" He asked.
"The zoo was great, we had so much fun but you know our kids. They smile and make noises all day. They had their first taste of
table food today." I told him.
"Ohh, I know Marky loved that."
"He really did. I gave them both a pretzel he ate that one and cried for another." I said with a giggle.
"That little man is going to eat us out of house and home. How are you? You didn’t walk too much did you?" He asked.
"Pa, it was the zoo. Of course I walked. It was a cool day and I feel fine." I answered him.
"I just wanna make sure you and my baby are okay. It’s so soon. We haven’t been to see the obstetrician yet. You gotta be
careful."
"I know babe. I know. The appointment is just a few days away and I promise I will take it easy until then. Okay?"
"Good. How far are you from the house?"
"About fifteen minutes but I have to drop Drag, Taylor and Tyler off first."
"Bring them back to the house. I will have my driver take them home."
"I am already out., I can drop them. I will be home in no t I p I promise."
"I love you!" He said.
"I love you too. I should be there within the hour."
I pulled up to Dragon's house, woke them eventually and the three of them filed out of the truck. Half-asleep Dragon mumbled, "Bye, call me later." I watched them go inside before pulling away from the curb. Chereese just rolled from one side to the other.
I began the second leg of my quiet drive home. As I turned onto our street, I made sure all the doors were locked and the windows were rolled completely up. Vin was home and that meant the vultures were swarming. There had been a few times during Mark and Miracle’s swimming lessons or when we were just enjoying the warm weather outside, that helicopters flew over the house. I don't know if they were taking pictures but there were never any pictures published. My kids were still safe from the public eye. Chereese had been here for almost two weeks, I loved having her here but she missed Shennett. I know she will be heading home soon. We talked a lot about her moving out here but I know she would never take Shennett away from her Daddy and I would never dream of asking her too. I’d ordered her a pair of two quart diamond stud earrings and we had guess coming over for a farewell dinner party the evening she is to leave. Chereese walked right into my life and became everything to me from a counselor to my nurse and for that I am forever in her debt.
Through the open gates, I pulled up the drive way and into the garage. Vin was there waiting. Of course the houses security system alerts you whenever the front gates are opened. It works by remote for three vehicles only, Vin's truck, mine and Vin's driver. My husband has always been adamant about having a safe home and I loved him for it. We had few home employees, which cut down on traffic and rumors. A cook, two maids, a gardener and Roman's trainer. They all worked day time hours besides the cook occasionally. But after six our home was ours.
I was truly exhausted, Chereese was sleeping so peacefully I almost didn't want to wake her. Vin swept me off my feet and gave me a mouth watering kiss as soon as I stepped from the car.
"I missed you." He said looking into my eyes.
"I missed you too." I said kissing his nose and nuzzling his face with mine.
One more kiss and he placed me back on my feet. I woke Chereese, who didn't seem to know where she was at first.
"Sleep good?" I asked grinning.
"Sure." She said grabbing a few bags and disappearing into the house.
Gently Vin and I each removed a baby from a car seat. Being careful not to wake them. Sleep was good for growing babies and their parents. We closed the doors and waited for the car alarm to chirp before we went into the house.
We took Mark and Miri into the nursery and he followed me into the bedroom to take some rest until Mark and Miracle awoke again. Vin jumped me before I could get into the bedroom. Trailing kisses down my neck, his hands seemed to mold to my body. He reached down and ran his strong hands across the skin of my bare legs. I’d been wearing a sun dress, that he lifted and swooped it over my head. Before long we had stripped each other of everything but our imaginations. Over to the bed we stumbled andan tan to make love before our bodies hit the sheets. We breathed heavily and panted as we consumed each others essence and swirled into orgasm over and over again.
We both fell to the bed exhausted, wet, relaxed and relieved. I rested my head on his chest and traced the lines of his six pack with my fingertips as we shared pillow talk. When we heard the sound of someone working up to a scream over the baby monitor. I took a deep breath.
“I was hoping they would have slept a little longer.” I said.
“Yeah, me too. I’ll get them.” Vin said.
“So there is a God in heaven.” I said laughing and laying back on the bed.
While Vin went to attend to who ever was crying, I changed the sheets and went for a bath. If I wasn’t tired after all the walking and driving, I am now. Turning on the water, I poured in a little bubble bath and undressed. There in the full length mirror I examined myself carefully. My stomach had already began to pudge. I wondered what this pregnancy is going do to my body. Mark and Miracle had been good to me. I hadn’t gotten any stretch marks and I lost my baby weight from the constant running. My breast were a little larger but moving up from a C cup to a D cup wasn’t really a Greek tragedy. I poked out my stomach a little more and tried to see myself pregnant again. My hair draped around my face as I looked down at my feet that looked a little swollen. Giving up on the mirror, I cut off the water, tested it and sank into the hot relaxing water.
