Chapter 9
Everyone had eventually packed themselves into the game room. It wasn’t too bad. There were a couple large couches with a rather oversized television situated in front of them. There was also what looked like to be a bar, a couple of stools, a piano, a karaoke machine and of course, the pool table. Adrienne took a healthy bite of her pizza and covered her mouth as she chewed. She was ravenous but that was no reason to be impolite.
“Do you like the pizza? I don’t know how different it tastes here to how it tastes in America.” Changmin asked, settling himself on the stool next to Adrienne. She smiled slightly as she held up her finger to signal to Changmin that she was still chewing.
“It’s good, there is less cheese than the normal American pizza, but I don’t mind so much. I shouldn’t eat so much anyway, I’m slightly lactose intolerant.” She replied and took another bite, after swallowing she continued, “It’s good though; I like it. There are more vegetables, which is nice. It gives the illusion of health,” she laughed.
Changmin chuckled and nodded as he took a bite of his own slice. Adrienne’s eyes widened slightly when she realized that in Changmin had finished his slice in four bites. They got even wider when they realized that he had 5 more slices on his plate.
“Man, I am completely envious of your metabolism…” she grumbled, staring that the piece of pizza that she was holding in front of her eyes. “I’m going to have to run 3 miles just to work off all this junk food,” she lamented.
what the hell….why not
Adriennes shrugged as she took another bite.
Changmin’s face perked up in interest. “You run? That’s really cool, so do I!” He smiled and licked the pizza sauce off his lips
Adrienne raised her eyebrow and bit her lip as she watched Changmin eat his pizza and then lick the sauce off his lips.
that was really cute…
Her eyes got round as she realized what she just thought. She blamed it on years of ignoring boys. Now that she found some decent guys, they were starting to look more and more appealing by the minute. She groaned inwardly.
great, just what I need…emotions and drama
Shaking herself back to reality, she cleared her throat and smiled. “So, guess it’s not the metabolism eh?” she asked as she finished her food.
“Oh well, I’ve always been pretty skinny and could eat whatever I wanted. I run just because…well for one reason I’m an early bird and need something to do when I’m the only one up in the morning. And…I like to be as healthy as I…can.” He laughed to himself as he stared at his almost empty plate of food. “Guess I’m being a bit hypocritical, ne?”
Adrienne laughed, “Nah, we all need to let loose once in a while, even if it’s just in the form of pizza.”
Yoochun watched the conversation between Adrienne and Changmin closely. He frowned slightly as she continued to smile and laugh. Not that he didn’t want her to, he tried to reassure himself. It’s just that he wanted to be the cause of those smiles and giggles…not his infectiously cute friend. He wasn’t sure how his little crush had first developed itself. It could have been that first day when she barged in on him but then it could have been when she made him breakfast. They do say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Either way, like it or not, Yoochun was faced with a predicament. Sure he had liked girls, and dated his fair share…but they had always thrown themselves at him. If he showed any interest in a girl, they would automatically be doing everything to make him happy.
Adrienne on the other hand…well she had barged in on him while he was half naked, saved him from the evil Jin, made him breakfast, and kicked him into the pool.
it’s fifty/fifty…well that doesn’t help me…
His face shifted in inward conversation as Yunho came up and gave him a punch in the arm.
“Don’t stare, you’ll give yourself away.” He said, smirking. Yoochun blushed and turned his face into the air, “I don’t know what you are talking about, just take your shot,” he grumbled as he leaned against the wall.
Yunho chalked up his pool cue and took aim. Making a nice fluid motion, he successfully landed the three ball into the side pocket.
“Please, Yoochun…we all see it; we aren’t blind you know…” he went on as he repositioned himself for his next shot. “Not that I blame you, I mean…she is really cute. If you didn’t have any preexisting interest…I might have taken some up myself, though I think that Changmin would defeat me horribly. His cute and innocent nature is like a girl magnet. It’s really ridiculous…the amount of girls that follow him around; the worst part is he doesn’t even realize it.” He trailed on, shaking his head. He leaned over the table and aimed, but just missed his shot. He audibly ticked in disappointment. “Anyway, Min isn’t your normal girl, it seems. Well, for one she is only half Korean, but seems to be full American in the way she acts. That alone sets her apart from the crowd. It’s not a bad thing, personally I think that girls that are all quiet and do everything you want without question are ...well…kind of boring,” he shrugged and poked Yoochun in the side with his cue,” Hey, your shot…anyway, my advice…just get to know her, go on dates. You are a good guy, and cute. She won’t be able to resist you. And if it doesn’t work out…well you’ve got a great friend in her. She seems like a genuinely good person.”
Yoochun sighed as he stretched himself over the table to make his shot. “Ehhh we will see what happens,” he mumbled as he took his shot.
“Hey, would anyone like a drink…I’ve been working on my bartending skills!” Hae chirped as she shuffled behind the bar. “Lots of stuff to choose from…come on people, hurry up! I wanna sing some karaoke!” Hae whined as she set up some glasses. “Min! Changmin! Come on what do you want?”
Adrienne stumbled for words, “Uhh…Well, how about an amaretto sour? Do you have that?” she asked as she swiveled in her seat to face Hae.
“Yupp, sure do!” she replied as she started pouring the drink,” My father took it upon himself to familiarize himself with American drinks when he was having a series of parties for some American clients of his. The fringe benefit was that I got to watch and learn! Here ya go, taste it and tell me what you think!” Hae bounced.
Adrienne took a gingerly sip before moaning, “Oh Hae that is delicious, dangerously so…” Adrienne continued as she took another drink. “Changmin, you should have her make something, we have a future famous bartender in the making over here.”
Changmin shifted nervously, “Uhh, well I don’t drink much…soo, whatever you recommend Hae,” he said as she leaned his elbow on the deep monogyny bar. “Just don’t make it too strong, “he insisted as he leaned over to watch her at work, “Yeah that’s good…that’s good Hae!” He exclaimed as he practically crawled over the bar to stop her from pouring. “Geez, are you trying to get me drunk?” he sighed as he sat back down, “Yes, Changmin, “ she replied, “I’m trying to get you drunk and have my way with you,” she rolled her eyes as she handed him an electric blue colored cocktail. “Go on…it’s not poisoned!” She huffed as she put her hands on her hips. Changmin took a little sip and smiled, “Ok…yeah it’s good...” Hae bounced about in glee.
Everyone had eventually made their way over to the bar and after a series of drinks decided to carry their slightly intoxicated selves to the karaoke machine. Adrienne, who felt a bit buzzed, unceremoniously threw herself into a rather large and cushy loveseat ( a/n…haha sometimes I really amuse myself by the coincidences that come to me while writing…). Sinking in a bit, she adjusted so her leg was hanging over the arm.
Yoochun sauntered over, “Hey, chair hog, scooch,” he insisted poking her in the arm. Adrienne flailed her hand at him, but lost the battle. Pouting, she shifted so he could squeeze in.
“Do you need to go home? It’s getting kind of late; I can call a cab if you need one.” He asked as he tried to make himself more comfortable in the space that was available…not that he was particularly complaining about being so close to Adrienne at the moment.
“Uhh, no that’s ok. While us,” Adrienne let out a slightly drunken hiccup, “ girls were changing clothes, Hae told me that it might be a good idea to call my mom and tell her that I was spending the night here, since she expected that everyone would be over late and might end up drinking, so I already told my mom, and she expects that I won’t be home till tomorrow.” Adrienne let out a breath of air shifted uncomfortably, “And you call me the chair hog? Geez Yoochun, do you mind?” she flicked him an annoyed glanced. Yoochun shot her a sideways glance, “Fine, here” he grumbled as he shifted her so that her legs were stretched out over his lap, “Better,” he asked, raising his eyebrow in slight annoyance.
yes. Very much so…
“I guess that it will have to do…” she mumbled as she stuck a pillow behind her head.
Hae had already started up the karaoke machine and was singing very loudly and slightly off key to the song playing before her. After the song ended, the room erupted in laughter and claps as she took a theatrical bow and handed the microphone to Junsu. He flipped through the song selection and finally picked one, as he was smirking evilly.
Adrienne groaned loudly as she heard Britney Spear’s Toxic blaring from the speakers. “You’ve got to be kidding me…” she moaned as she covered her ears with her hands. She hated the song, but she had to admit, Junsu’s drunken dancing was quite amusing…and slightly accurate. Laughing to herself, she watched and listened as the microphone continued down the line before ending up in her hands. Yoochun smiled mischievously as he handed her the mic. “Nobody left but you; show us what you’ve got.” She stared at the mic and then back at Yoochun. She then shifted to look at all the faces, which were waiting eagerly for her to begin.
“Why do I always end up doing things I don’t want to when I’m around you…” she complained, “Nope, I only sing in the shower…alone, in the shower,” she glared at him when he made an interested face at her little bit of information. “I need another drink if I’m going to be subjected to this,”
Hae popped up with a drink in tow, “Here, drink it and lesgo!” She clapped in anticipation. Adrienne rolled her eyes as she downed the drink and stood up. She wavered slightly as she made her way to the karaoke box. Finally deciding on Everlasting Love, she belted out her song…horribly but to much amusement of those around her. Blushing, she unsteadily returned to her chair. She tried to sit, but ended up falling onto Yoochun.
“Oof! Geez!” Yoochun groaned as he caught her, “Min! What was…Min? Min, are you ok?” He asked as concern swept over him. She looked pale and sick and her skin felt slightly clammy. “Min?” he asked again as he brushed her bangs out of her eyes.
Adrienne groaned slightly, “I dunno, I think that I had too much to drink, my vision is a bit blurry and my head is killing me…” she moaned as she placed her palm gingerly on her temple.
“Hey…is she ok?” Changmin came over and kneeled down beside her, “She doesn’t look so good…” he whispered. Yoochun shifted her in his arms as he picked her up and carried her to the large sofa on the other side of the room. “Changmin, could you get me a glass of water and a damp towel.” He asked as he gently laid her onto the fluffy couch.
“She’s ok…she just looks a bit dehydrated…she had too much to drink, “ he reassured everyone as he noticed concerned eyes peeking over chairs and couches. “I will take care of her, so everyone can continue on.” He nodded and waved off the offers of help from the others.
“Here you go,” Changmin said as he handed Yoochun a glass and towel,” Are you sure you don’t need any help?” Yoochun thanked Changmin and shook his head, “It’s ok, and I’ve been in this situation before, with my brother particularly, so I know what to do.” Changmin nodded as he headed back to the group on the other side of the room.
“Min? Hey Min, you need to drink this.” He said as she shook her shoulder gently. Adrienne groaned as she tried to turn over so he would leave her alone. “Please, Min, you need some water in you,” he pleaded as he prevented her from turning over. Adrienne peeked through her eyes as she opened them slightly. She sat up enough to take a couple of sips of water before falling back on the couch.
“Ugh…I remember now why I didn’t drink anymore….” She whimpered as she curled herself into a bit of a ball. “Sorry, Yoochun…you should go back to your friends, don’t worry about me.” Yoochun shook his head, “I promised them I would take care of you so, I will,” he smiled as she sat next to her on the couch. “Here,” he placed a pillow on his lap and patted it. Adrienne took it as an invitation to rest her head, so she did. She felt a little weird being so close to Yoochun, and him showing so much concern for her. The last boyfriend that had helped her in this situation, well help was too strong a word to use. He had tossed her a blanket and said to sleep it off. Nice huh? She snuggled herself into the couch as Yoochun laid a light blanket over her and set the damn towel on her forehead. “Don’t worry about anything, just rest ok?” he said as she patted her head. Adrienne nodded mindlessly as she quickly drifted into sleep.
Yoochun watched her as her breathing became longer and steadier. Seeing her pale and sickly had stirred something in him. He wasn’t quite sure what to label it, but all he knew was that he wanted to help her and he wanted to make sure that she was ok. He tapped his lip slowly as he pondered the situation. He had never really felt that level of concern for anyone other than family and close friends. He felt a bit uncomfortable in this new uncharted territory that he found himself in. He gazed down at the girl next to him that seemed to be sleeping peacefully now. When he moved to get up, Adrienne groaned slightly in protest as she clasped onto his arm that had been draped around her. Yoochun felt his heart tug a little as he smiled to himself. He had to admit, this new feeling…it felt pretty nice…and surprisingly genuine.
Adrienne stirred slightly and then froze as the pounding in her head grew strong and stronger the more she moved. “Ooohhhhh” she groaned as she held her head slightly. She didn’t dare get up; it seemed the pounding head of hers would be likely to fall off. She blinked her eyes a few times as she trying to focus on the clock on the all. “4:30 am…man how long was I out…” she asked herself as she slowly sat up and placed her weight on her forearms. Noticing the glass of water she eagerly downed what was left of the liquid. Once her eyes had adjusted to the light, she surveyed her surroundings. The first thing she noticed was that Yoochun had fallen asleep next to hear. He had slightly reclined the seat, still allowing for Adrienne’s head to rest on the pillow that was still in his lap. Adrienne blushed slightly.
way to go captain idiot
She put her face in her palms and slowly rubbed up and down. She couldn’t really remember what happened. She remembered feeling a bit dizzy and then she remembered being carried to the couch, and that’s about it. From the looks of it, it seems that Yoochun had stayed with her through the night. She smiled at the thought of his sweetness. Underneath that macho front he tried to put up most of the time, he was a real softy inside. Adrienne suppressed a giggle as she looked at the rest of the party goers. Yunho had moved to the couch kiddy corner to the one that she was currently seated on. He had one leg up on the couch and one lying over the side, like he had ungracefully fell onto it. She then sat up enough to look over the back of the love seat to see that Hae and Soo weren’t in the room.
hmm…they must be sleeping in Hae’s room…
Jae and Junsu were sprawled out on the couches by the karaoke machine. She swore that she could hear snoring coming from Junsu’s direction. Changmin looked like he had found a nice spot on the floor and was sleeping peacefully.
“Hey, are you feeling better?”
Adrienne heard a whisper; she jumped slightly, not expecting it. Noticing that Yoochun had woken up, she bowed her head a bit and blushed.
“Yes, I’m a bit hung over, but I feel much better…um…thank you for taking care of me. That was really above and beyond the call of duty.” She said with a yawn. Running her hand through her hair, she realized that it had become mussed considerably through the night.
god I must look horrible...
“It was nothing…besides after I settled you down here, everyone pretty much crashed. No one was in any condition to drive so, instead of calling cabs, we all stayed here. Figured it was better anyway since it was so late. What? Do I have drool on my face?” He self consciously started wiping his face when he noticed that Adrienne as staring at him.
“Huh? Oh…no, sorry. It’s just a rare time when a guy is so nice to me. That’s all…I guess that I’m just a little bit in awe…” she gave a nervous laugh as she wrapped herself in her blanket and yawned again
“Well…um, you’re welcome” he smiled and laughed slightly. “Here, you are obviously still tired, you should go back to sleep.” He said, extending an arm and motioning for her to lie back down. Adrienne returned, abet a bit more shyly this time, to the position that she had woken up in. It wasn’t long before she and Yoochun both drifted back into a deep sleep.
“Junsu! JUNSU! Give me that before you break something!!”
Adrienne awoke with start, which in turn woke Yoochun. She blinked her eyes a few times and rubbed them, trying to focus her sight. “What the…what is all that screaming?”
“PUT THAT DOWN!!!! I SWEAR… NO! OUT OUT OUT!!!!”
Yoochun stretched his long, strong limbs and rubbed is chest as he tried to will his body out of slumber. “My guess, Hae is trying to cook something and Junsu is trying to help…well he likes to think it’s helping…but Hae usually kicks him out of the kitchen so fast it makes his head spin.” He gave a slight chuckle at the mental image that just crossed his mind.
Adrienne nodded slowly as she glanced towards the stairway that led to the screaming. She winced slightly as she heard some crashes and clanging.
“Sounds dangerous….” She said, stretching and falling back on the couch. “Ugh I probably look horrible…I wonder if Hae would mind if I took a shower….” Adrienne mused as she tucked her hands under her head. “Well, there is a bathroom right through there; I’m sure that she won’t mind.” Yoochun nodded towards a door to his left, “By the way….nice hair” he gave her a wink as he teased her about her current hair do…which was currently messy and sticking out in every direction possible. Adrienne tilted her head up slightly and glared at him, “Well you don’t look like you are about to win any beauty contests either…” she sat up slowly, wincing at the still slight throbbing of her head, “Ok, if you go up stairs, tell Hae I’m taking a shower and will be up soon.”
Yoochun nodded as she flipped on the television, which wasn’t appreciated but the lumpy form on the other couch. Yunho cursed and threw a pillow at Yoochun’s head. Yoochun had luckily been quick enough to move out of the way, “You know…you could have just asked for me to turn down the volume…” Yoochun grumbled as he clicked the remote a couple times.
