Part Nine – Slightly Taming the Shrew
Kaoru looked at Kyo through the bars of the cage, his eyebrow raised lightly. There was a cool look on the face of the Sidhe Prince, as he peered down at his caged prize. Kyo was crouched down; his chin turned up so he could return the taller male’s gaze. Neither of them blinked, each one studying the other with interest concealed in indifference. Kaoru held the gifts he’d brought for the pixie prince, still wishing to give them to the other – as he would need clothes, and jewelry, and makeup for many occasions, not the least of which was to please Kaoru himself. So, after a moment more of regarding the captive blonde, the Sidhe turned from his prize’s cage, and he walked back to his bed, taking with him the trinkets and clothing he’d brought for the other. He picked up the keys to the pixie’s cage from the nightstand near to his bed, and he walked back to the gilded prison in a slow gliding step – his eyes never leaving the tri-color pixie oculars as he came. Kaoru stood outside the door to the first room of the cage, looking in at the blonde, who was still on the carpeted floor of the cage but no longer crouched. Kyo was curled neatly there, watching Kaoru with wary eyes.
“So - you’re called Kyo, are you, my Little One?” The voice of the Prince of Blood and Darkness was pitched low, a bit of a coldness in the tone. “That is a lovely name.” He smirked, and unlocked the door to the cage, and entered it. As he did, he reached towards one of the bars and wrapped his hand around something that did not seem to be there – until he pulled his hand towards himself. When he did that action, another leash came from the bar. A long, silver chain – hung with little gems here and there on the small, intricate links. “It’s a pity he did not let you tell me yourself. Perhaps if we had come to the time of such a blessing, we would be more at peace with one another. It would have been like a new first impression, don’t you think?” He came towards Kyo, wrapping the chain around his hand over and over, then tightening the length around his appendage with a slight gritting of his teeth. Kaoru was soon standing over his prize - looking down at the youth with a raised eyebrow and a smirk. “Well?”
“Why does it matter what my name is? You would just call me anything you wish, would you not?” Kyo asked, his voice as low as the other’s – a trilling noise in his tone, an accent. It was lighter than the one the pixie called Toshiya carried in his use of the common tongue. And it was far more charming. Kaoru growled lightly to think of the snowy beauty that Die had taken to himself. There had been something clear in the way that one had challenged him with his eyes. Toshiya had been in love with Kyo. Kaoru could have ripped that bound pixie’s heart out and fed it to him in the moment he figured that out. Kyo was his now! Toshiya would have to deal with it. As would Kyo himself. Then, something strange came to Kaoru’s head. Perhaps he should make it easier on Kyo to accept? The Sidhe smirked to himself. What a truly novel thought! His attention went back to Kyo once more. The pixie was still looking up at him with those sparkling, tri-colored eyes. He could have drowned in the jewel-like beauty. “Did you not hear my questions, Sidhe?”
“I heard them well enough, Little One.” Kaoru smirked more, and as he did so, he reached down with his free hand, and he gripped Kyo by his hair and pulled his head back – forcing the pixie to look up at him more as Kaoru kneeled down. “No, it does not really matter to me what your name is, for I could rename you if I so decided. However, I like your name, so you may keep it.” There was a light smile on his face as he spoke those words, and he stroked the smaller male’s hair with his hand – no longer gripping him by his tresses. But that only lasted for the length of that sentence, for as soon as it was over, Kaoru growled fiercely and he pulled the youth’s head back by his wild locks once more so sharply it made the pixie yelp in pain. “And you will have a care of how you address me, do you understand me? I do not care if you are the Prince of the Dragons in the wild lands! Here, you are –my- prize . . . –my- pet . . . –my- slave . . . and you will address me with respect, or I could be forced to remove that delightfully pink tongue of yours, do you understand me, Kyo?” Of course he would do no such thing, but he had to threaten something. He would not spoil this creature before him for the entire world. Kyo was too beautiful to be truly harmed . . . well, to be truly harmed in a permanent manner.
“I understand you.” Kyo’s voice came out a low growl after a pause of a few moments, and it made Kaoru smirk softly. The Sidhe clipped the end of the leash to Kyo’s collar as he did so, and then he let go of the blonde tufts with his other hand.
“Aren’t you forgetting something, my Little One?” Kaoru’s voice purred as it sounded, and Kyo tilted his head gently, looking at the other with cold, insolent eyes. This reaction made the Sidhe sneer with anger, and he found himself raising his hand to Kyo, ready to strike him sharply across each cheek when something made him stop. Kaoru lowered his hand, only to stroke the other’s cheek gently with a small smirk playing on his thin lips. He could see the questioning in Kyo’s eyes, the wonder – the absolute confusion. Kaoru smiled. Perhaps . . . perhaps he was going about this all wrong? He wanted Kyo to adore him, not abhor him. “We will work on that later.” He then tugged lightly on Kyo’s chain. “Come now, I have a few things you may enjoy. Gifts for you . . . to replace your. . . garment? From earlier. And, if you behave . . . I will give you some information about your tall friend from the holding pen in the dungeons. I’m sure you know of whom I speak?”
“Toshiya?” Kyo asked, his hand going to hold the part of the chain attached to his collar. He looked up at Kaoru with hope in his eyes – and such love for the one spoken of that Kaoru wanted to spit with rage and envy. The Sidhe bit down his anger though, and he smiled down at Kyo almost blithely. He tugged gently on Kyo’s chain, turning away from him to lead him from the cage. “Is it he you speak of? It must be!” Kyo moved forward, to touch the hand which held the other end of his chain. The Sidhe closed his eyes, not believing that the other touched him of his own free will. But over such a reason? Once more, Blood and Darkness wanted to hiss and spit in anger. However, he yet again held his peace. He wanted the love of the little blonde at his back.
“I will tell you no more, if you do not come quietly with me, and try on what I have gotten for you – with no fuss from you at all.” Kaoru stated, looking over his shoulder at the pixie. He saw and felt as Kyo let go of his hand and pulled away from him, returning his gaze warily. There was no trust in the jewel-like eyes of the pixie behind him. Kaoru felt the affect of these things very deeply – they were so painful to him. It troubled him horribly to feel such a thing over someone he saw as a possession. He simply kept a blank look on his face, hiding his sorrow in the emotionless, stoic mask he’d always worn for everyone, including his own father. Even Die got that mask most of the time. He found he so wanted to show Kyo the truth of his soul, but how could he with so much mistrust from the other? However, he really couldn’t blame the smaller fey. He knew he would not trust or even like someone who had put a collar around his throat and a brand upon his inner thigh. Kaoru told himself to stop thinking such nonsense. It was common, very common, to have such a possession like Kyo. The blonde’s kind was made to be playthings, broad-mares, concubines to the powerful. Kaoru would never have to worry about becoming such a thing, and it was ridiculous to think that he ever could find himself trying to relate with someone like Kyo. It was even more ridiculous to care if the pixie liked him or not. That should not matter to him. It never had before. Kaoru didn’t even care if his own father liked him or not . . . So why was he so concerned over the love and the trust of a wildling? He sighed lightly, after a few moments. “If you wish to stay in the cage, you may – but I will tell you nothing of this other pixie.”
“I will come with you to try on these things.” Kyo stated lightly, after another few moments of time – as if he’d been weighing Kaoru’s ultimatum. And he had been. The want to hear about Toshiya – and he knew it was Toshiya the Sidhe was speaking of . . . that overpowered any fear or dislike he had of the one holding the chain attached to the collar around his throat.
“And will you be submissive?” Kaoru asked, as he raised a seemingly careless eyebrow. He gazed over the pixie’s body, letting a smirk grow across his lips. He watched with pleasure as Kyo blushed and turned his lovely face away from his look. “You must promise to be so, my Kyo. Or I will tell you nothing of the pixie you wish to know of, and I will give you to the training chair’s mercy for several hours if you misbehave too greatly.”
“I will give you no trouble.” Kyo stated, finally looking up at the other, albeit slowly. He watched as a smile spread the thin lips of the hawkish face. The other man licked his twin petals, and Kyo looked down again, shame flowing through his body for being so attracted to those actions and to the way the Sidhe looked at him – to the way the Sidhe looked. “I give you my word.”
“Very well, I believe we have ourselves a deal, my beauty. Now, come along . . . I think you will like the treasures I’ve found for you in the market place today.” And with that, Kaoru turned from Kyo, and began to lead the other from the cage. And Kyo . . . Kyo followed behind submissively. As he did so, he could hear an echo of Shinya’s voice in his head. Something the ‘spiritual guide’ had not spoken to him during his visit earlier . . .
Good, very good. This is how things should be, Kyo . . . this is how things should be.
“But why?” Kyo asked, softly, and used the language of the dragons so that Kaoru would think he was simply making cooing noises at his back as they crossed the darkened room to the bed. He waited for the echo in his mind to reply . . .but of course, there came no answer to that. So, he hung his head, and continued on his passage across the Prince of the Sidhe’s bedroom.
