Frank knew that he was angry. He was so angry he was seeing stars. But the look on her face.....he knew she was sorry. And even though his pain far outweighed any other emotion he held, he couldn't help but feel a tinge of guilt at how he had left her. He'd been so cold, so lifeless, he didn't even get an explanation from her. He owed her that. He could have at least let her try to explain herself.
He watched as his headlights lit up the road signs when he passed them.
But what's to explain..... he thought dryly. She wanted Gerard, she's always wanted Gerard....
He had sat in his car down the block for a while. He saw her sitting out there in her nightgown, freezing, crying, wailing his name. He had wanted to go back to her. Wanted to pick her up and carry her inside. She was so helpless.....
No, he didn't really believe that she loved Gerard. He knew he didn't. Maybe she had wanted Gerard at first, but he knew that Luca loved him. She had even said it, finally.
He never let on how much it had hurt him that night, when he first told her and she never said it back. But he also knew that she would tell him when she was ready. Maybe she just didn't realize that she loved him until now.
Or maybe she really loved Gerard.
He pushed the thought from his mind. He knew, deep down, that he couldn't be angry with her forever. What kind of life was that, to never forgive someone for a mistake? It was a mistake, he knew. He could see it in her eyes, when he had asked her. She hated herself for what had happened. How could he hate her too? He wanted nothing more than to crawl into bed with her and hold her until they both fell asleep, and never let go of her. Ever. He wanted to be with her, even if she had made a mistake. Even if she did have feelings for Gerard. He didn't care. She hadn't moved in with Gerard. She didn't love Gerard. She didn't.
Oh, Luca....I'm so sorry...
He turned the car around and headed back home.....
