“Bonjour, le Patron.” (Good Morning Boss.) Gail’s assistant greeted her as she approached her desk early Monday morning.
Gail grinned. “Bonne Marie de matin! Ai-t-je des messages?” (Good morning Mary! Do I have any messages?)
She nodded and handed Gail a few pieces of posted notes. Gail nodded. “Merci.” She then went quickly into her office.
Sitting at her desk she began to look at her the pieces of paper. She had a couple of messages from clients, which she put to the side for later and then one from Vanessa. It said to call her because she missed her. Gail thought about her conversation with Johnny and crumpled up the note and threw it in the trash. She couldn’t talk to Vanessa right now… or ever at this point.
Turning her attention t the computer she went into her email account and saw that she had a message.

Her stomach flopped and her hands shook. She didn’t know what to do. Her head swam and she made a quick decision and opened it.
Gail,
It has been only a couple of days since you have left, but I feel a loss… I’m a terrible monster to do this and I apologize, but no woman has ever done this to me. I love Vanessa… I really do… But… I love you too. It is because of this indecision that I have decided that I need to see you. I will be in Paris on Saturday. I will be at the Arc de triumph around nine thirty pm. If you do not come I will understand and never bother you again.
Johnny
Gail’s heart beat rapidly as it did a lot these days. She reread the email five times before it dawned on her. Today was Saturday. She looked at the clock quickly and saw that it was a minute to ten. Her thoughts battled one another. Good verses evil. She knew if she were to go things would change drastically, but if she didn’t go would she ever feel right?
The clock suddenly struck four and she bolted to her feet. She couldn’t explain it, but her body was moving on it’s own without her mind doing anything. She bolted past everyone, not returning passing greetings or anything.
As she fumbled with her keys, she got into the car and drove quickly. She was thankful for the first time in her career that her office was so close to the Arc. She barely heard the door click shut as the blood rushed to her head. She could see the Arc across the road with its tourists walking around. The traffic was heavy and she grew impatient waiting for the many motorbikes and cars to finally clear. Finally an opening presented itself and she ran as fast as her Chanel sling back’s would allow her. Reaching the other side she looked around frantically. Families stood around laughing and pointing to the mammoth memorial. Couples linked hands and in some cases locked lips, but no Johnny.
She felt tears well up in her eyes, as she turned in circles, frantic to see his familiar face. Soon it all became too much and tears blocked her vision. She was too late. She felt suddenly weak. She knew it was wrong, but at that point all she wanted was Johnny. She sat on one of the small fat poles that linked the chin fence around the Arc and cried.

“And here I thought I was going to be stood up.” A strong male voice floated into her ears.
Gail looked up and saw Johnny standing there. Wearing a black leather jacket, black beanie and sunglasses, he looked a vision. Gail stood and rushed to him quickly. Everything around her paused and it was only them. Their lips crashed passionately and her arms snaked around his neck, pulling him closer. He held her as close as he could get her and his hands roamed her body wildly.
Gail pulled away from the kiss and took a deep breath. “I w-would have been here sooner, but I just got the email and, and…”
Johnny placed a finger on her lips silencing her. He smiled when she went quiet and ran the hand down her cheek to the base of her neck. “It doesn’t matter… You’re here now.”
Gail saw his amused smile and the corners of her lips lifted and she chuckled. “I tried so hard to deny you and push this away… But when I heard you were here…I… I couldn’t stay away… If I… If I didn’t come I would have lost my chance at… at…”
Johnny’s lips swooped down quickly to capture hers heatedly silencing her ramblings. There bodies heated up as desire became overwhelming.
Gail’s hands ran up his chest, looking for buttons, ties, something to aid her in her quest to feel his flesh on her fingertips. Johnny dragged his mouth from hers and kissed his way down to her neck. His hand dragged slowly down her body and then skimmed down her thigh. She felt his hand slip under her skirt and she gasped. “Johnny!”
He brought his hands away and put them on her shoulder pushing her away from him. He panted heavily and he struggled to gain control. “We have to get out of here.”
Gail shook her head entranced. “My-my place is close by… We can go there.”
He shook his head and then ripped his hands off of Gail like she was on fire. He ran a hand through his hair and then looked around. “Yah… Yah… I’ll follow you?”
Gail nodded. “You have a car?”
He shook his head. “Rental.”
She nodded in understanding and then glanced over to her car. “Yah… follow me.” She turned to walk to her car when suddenly her arm was being pulled. She turned and Johnny pulled her to his chest. His lips descended on hers again for a kiss that surpassed anything he had given her before. When he pulled back he looked deep into her glazed eyes. “Thank you… You don’t know what this means to me.”
Gail leaned up and kissed him gently. She then watched him disappear into the crowd.
Getting to her car she fumbled for her phone. She saw Johnny in his car pull into the parking lot she was in and park near her. She dialed her work number and quickly tried to think up an excuse to tell her boss. She finally thought of something and stuttered as she informed him that her grandmother had died. He of course was very kind and gave her the rest of the day off.
When she finally left the parking lot her heart was in her throat. She glanced in the rearview mirror and saw Johnny’s eyes seemingly burning holes into her. He couldn’t possibly be looking at her… from all the way behind her.
She was hardly able to focus as she turned corners. What was she doing? The gravity of the situation finally began to weigh on her. Up until now she had been letting her heart lead her here. Could she really go through with it? Should she really go through with it? So many things would be ruined, so many bridges burnt, so many hearts broken… As her home came into view she could have sworn her heart had stopped. What was she thinking? She couldn’t go through with this! No, When she parked she would stop this.
Gail parked the car in the garage and took a deep breath. She needed courage to stop this. She was a good girl… A church going, god fearing catholic girl! She could not do something so sinful!
Finally she got out of the car. Johnny followed and she stood there like a rock. She could do this.
Johnny looked into her eyes and her dissolve began to flake. She stood there still though. They stood there both silent, unmoving. The ticking of her watch sounded, childish giggles of children playing in the park across the street seeped in through the open garage door. The beating of her heart filled her ears as she lost all feeling in her legs. Who would make the first move? Naturally Gail should say something. Stop this madness before he got close and she lost it.
Johnny stepped forward.
Gail lost it.
