Chapter Eight: Mimi’s Best Friend
Mark’s POVI couldn’t believe what I was hearing, Mimi was going to break up with Roger to be with me? Angel and Collins were even backing her up...well us. I was so overwhelmed by their support I didn’t know what to say, before I knew it Angel was dragging Mimi downstairs to break the news to Roger.
“Man, you got balls.” Collins said after the girls were gone.
“I’m sorry?”
“Think about in Roger point of view, you’re his best friend and his girlfriend is about to break up with him for you, when you’re the one that told him to pursue a relationship with her in the first place.”
I flinched. I hadn’t even thought about that. “Fuck what do you think he’s going to do?”
He was in the middle of lighting up a joint and stopped to look at me, “I know the old Roger would beat the shit out of you, now he’ll probably never talk to you again.”
“Shit. I have to stop her.” I knew Collins was going to tell me to just stop things with her in general, he was going to tell me to forget what happened between us the night before. I couldn’t do that! I would be lying to myself if I said that I didn’t care, the vision of her beneath me, holding her kissing her all over, I never wanted to let that go.
“Mark, tell me you used protection.”
I felt my face redden, “Of course we did, you think I’m an idiot?” We didn’t say anything more to each other I saw him shaking his head as I left. I had to get to Mimi. I ran downstairs without a plan I just had to get her to stop we could make things work couldn’t we?
Bursting through the door I saw all of them staring at me, Mimi’s eyes were wide Roger’s arm was around her waist she shook her head a little. “H-hey guys...” I swallowed hard. She must have backed out. I felt a little disappointed but relieved at the same time, she probably wanted to talk to me about it first we could tell Roger together when we’re both ready for the consequences.
Angel stood up from the couch, “We’ll just leave you two alone,” she hugged Mimi and grabbed my arm.
“What’s going on?” I asked finally when we made it out to the hallway.
She sighed, “She couldn’t do it. Poor thing.” I could tell she was disappointed in Mimi for backing out but Angel just didn’t understand the situation...she did but she couldn’t fully understand unless she was going through it. “Why did you come barging in like some hero anyway, honey?”
I rubbed my hands together nervously as I spoke. “I was talking to Collins and I just thought when Mimi tells him...I should be with her.” Did I really want that? It would mean jeopardizing any friendship Roger and I could ever have. Everything was just so complicated.
Angel put both hands on my shoulders staring into my eyes, “Mark, do you love my Mimi-chica?”
Mimi was hers? I blushed, they really were best friends, Mimi was luck y to have a best friend that loved her so completely. “Yes I do. I really do.” I felt the smile spread across my face as I spoke those words my heart was pounding so hard I couldn’t control the happiness of finally saying it out loud.
“Don’t hurt her. Ever.” She squeezed my shoulders, “She deserves to be happy, Mark.”
“I know she does.”
“Good.” Angel let go of my shoulders and we headed back up to the loft, “Oh and Mark,” she said turning back to look at me, “Don’t let this get out of hand any more than it already is.”
I nodded, but it was too late and by the look on her face I knew she knew that too.
