..........................................................................................
As time went on it became clear that the fans were going to stand by the band despite what Gerard had done. Soon the newspapers were lining litter trays or floating aimlessly down the city streets trying to sell old news.
For six long months you toured the States with My Chemical Romance. For six long months you lay each night next to him hoping that tomorrow he would still love you and that you wouldn't wake up and find that it had all been a dream. You felt the heat from his body as you lay your weary head on his chest and prayed that you wouldn't wake in a cold empty bed in England with nothing to show for the night before other than an aching head and a new cut scar. For six long months you watched yourself become what you had always wanted to be. But for six long months there was something nagging in the back of your mind, something you knew you had to do.
"I have to go back to England for a while and sort things out with my parents," you revealed after the last show of the tour. The guys stared at you in shock, their mouths hanging open like they were catching flies.
"What?" Gerard spluttered "Why?"
"It's just something I have to do ok," you insisted, "you guys will be fine without me. You're taking some time off anyway right? You don't need me to watch over you while you're on vacation." you tried to joke.
"We do!" Frank insisted "We want you here not.......," he tried to calculate how many miles it was to England but gave up "really far away!"
You couldn't help but giggle at his attempt. "I'm sorry guys but it's just something I have to do!"
"I'm coming with you," Gerard blurted out.
You looked at him in shock, mimicking the look he had had on his face just moments before. "You can't. You're going to Japan; you have plans of your own!" He tried to put his arms around you put you shrugged him away. The others wandered away uncomfortably, murmuring about having to sort out putting the kit away.
"Why don't you want me to come with you?" Gerard asked with an expression of hurt etched on his pale face.
"It's not that I don't want you to," you said quietly, "it's just that......" You didn't actually know why. You just had this feeling that you were going alone, that had always been the plan.
"That is the reason," he said, looking down at his hands. "You don't want me to meet your parents do you? You're ashamed of me."
"No," you said loudly, "it's just that......... you don't know them Gerard, they would rip you to shreds and I don't want that!" You were verging on tears now. What were you doing?
"I don't care what they do to me! I want to help you with your problems, like you helped me. That’s what we do Bea. That’s what you do in a relationship! You help each other out! You let me help you before when I was a complete stranger so why not now? Huh?"
You just stood in shock. "I don't know," you choked out. His outline was blurry as the tears came thick and fast. You just didn't want to ruin his plans, you felt like you always lent on him and even though he wanted you to you couldn't bring yourself to depend on him again.
"I need to do this alone," you repeated, even though it was breaking his heart and yours.
His face fell and you just couldn't pick it back up. "Fine," he said below a whisper, "when do you leave?"
"Tomorrow morning," you answered slowly.
"Got it all worked out," he said, not looking you in the eye.
You nodded. He looked up but his eyes had none of their normal magic. He was dead, you'd killed him.
"I love you," you whispered.
"I thought you did. But now I'm not so sure!" he replied.
"The car's here," you said to the guys, turning your head away from the window of the hotel.
"Bye Bea-Bea," Frank said, giving you huge hug.
"See ya Beatrice," Mikey said tearfully.
"See you soon babes," Ray said, his afro almost burying you.
"Bye kid," Bob said ruffling your hair and squeezing his arm around you tight.
"See you. I'm going to miss all of you, but I'll be back, I promise!"
Gerard wasn't there. "Do you know where he is?" you said quietly but they all shook their heads. "Ok I guess I'll just go then." Your heart ached for him. You wanted to kiss him until the world stopped turning, you wanted to look into his eyes and see what had been there before.
The guys walked you down to the front of the hotel and waved as your car pulled off and drove towards the airport. You couldn't bear to look back but if you had you would have seen Gerard standing on the steps watching you leave, with tears running down his face like rain.
"What are you doing man?" Ray asked to Gerard's back.
"What's that supposed to mean," Gerard replied, whirling around quickly.
"You are such a fucking idiot," Mikey said angrily. "That girl fucking loves you and you're just ruining everything for yourself. Trust me you will never find another girl like her. Ooooo I could just fucking hit you!"
"Woah calm down!" Gerard said in shock as Mikey stalked back into the building.
"He's right," Frank said "Why do you have to fight what you feel all the fucking time? Just accept it. You know your problem Gee, you get scared. Haven't we had this conversation? You've got to stop..... you've just got to stop and realise that you and Bea belong together."
His words and Mikey's anger hit deep. Without another word he hailed a passing cab and jumped in.
"Can't you go any faster?" Gerard said to the cab driver.
"Sorry man but this traffic is a killer!" he replied.
Gerard sunk back in his seat in frustration. He jumped in shock as his cell phone beeped.
"Hello," he said.
"Hey! It's Ray!"
"I know who it is you goon!"
"I'm just calling to say that her flight may be delayed!"
"What do you mean may be delayed?"
"Well. We're not sure which one it is and one flight to London says that it’s boarding and the other is delayed!"
"You guys," Gerard couldn't help but laugh. "So she could possibly still be waiting or she could be getting on the plane now!??"
"Yep....." Ray said awkwardly.
"Thanks guys." Gerard giggled as he snapped his phone shut. Then the seriousness of the situation hit him. What if he didn't get there in time? What if he never saw her again? Had he lost her forever? He didn't want to think about his life without her. He felt all warm inside when he recalled the happiness of waking up next to her every morning, watching her sleep, feeling her breath gently on his bare chest as she lay against him. Her face flickering with dreams.
"Excuse me, excuse me," the cab driver's voice interrupted his thoughts. "We're here man, that’s $10."
Gerard gave him the money and sprinted across the road towards the airport. It was pouring with rain and he got soaked across the short distance between the cab and the airport. He looked up at the departures board. The flight that she might be on was Gate 6. He looked for some directions and began wandering around the airport in search of her.
You waited impatiently at the desk. "I'm afraid you cannot get on this flight miss, you're too late, but there is another leaving in two hours time that I can get you on." You sighed in frustration.
"Yes ok. Thank you!"
You sat down on the uncomfortable blue chairs and put your head in your hands. It had been wishful thinking, all of it! Thinking you and Gerard could be together and nothing would go wrong. Stupid. The rain poured down, lashing against the window, like your thoughts lashing in your head. In a little less than a year you had gone full circle. You had been an addict, almost dead. You had found a saviour, a man who loved you, a job, friends. And now...... now you had nothing. You were dead inside without him. He'd bought you alive. Tears streamed down your face like the rain against the window. People stared at your tired face, streaked with tears and heartache.
You felt a hand on your shoulder. You turned. That face, those eyes. "I came to find you," he said.
You stood and fell into his arms, your lips collided and the rain cleared.
