Hours later, Mikey and Autumn joined the others downstairs, much rumpled and flushed. Autumn had a light beard burn all down her neck and Mikey was sporting some champion hickeys peeking above the collar of his shirt, which
was on inside out again.
“Well hello there.” Frank said, glancing over at them as they quietly sat together on the loveseat across from him and Ray and Bob.
Autumn grinned, “Hi Frankie.”
Bob glared at the two of them wringing Frankie the Doll in his hands. He didn’t even know when he had picked it up.
He’d known Autumn liked Mikey. Shit, she’d been in love with him as long as he’d been part of the group. He’d moved in from Chicago in the ninth grade, so he was still a relative newbie in the group, excluding Ryan of course. But every time Mikey went out with some random punk chick, Bob always hoped that maybe that would be the time that she’d look at him. He’d even lost a lot of weight their senior year, hoping that she would start to be attracted to him. Other than a few very drunken make out sessions, they’d never gotten together.
And then today, she’d run off with Mikey like he wasn’t even there. After spending all day talking to her, staring at her as she fawned all over Ray, giving him cornrows and wrapping her legs around his neck.
Bob wanted those legs wrapped around his neck. He wanted to be the one she dragged to her room to have loud hot sex. And it had been hot. Bob had felt the heat coming from the crack in the door where he watched them, jerking off to the sight of her pale thighs, imagining it was him pumping away between them. Him causing those wanton sounds to spill from her lips.
But no. it was Mikey. He had finally cleaned his glasses or something and realized that the most beautiful woman in the world was head over heels in love with him and he took her.
He wasn’t sure if he wanted to throttle Mikey, or her.
“Yo Bobby!” Autumn snapped her fingers in his general direction.
“Yeah?” he shook his head and made himself breathe. Calm down. He didn’t really want to hurt anyone. That wasn’t like him. Maybe it was time to go back to Tibet. Spend another year or two meditating.
“Where’d you go? We’ve been talking for the last five minutes.” She looked at him, worried.
“Just wandered off. I was thinking about going back to Tibet soon.” He looked around and set Frankie on the table, “What were we talking about?”
“That lady who got murdered bloodily earlier who happened to be the bitch that was trying to get Frankie fired.” she said.
“Obviously, she was a bigger bitch than we though and had pissed off someone she shouldn’t have. Unless Frankie did it.” all heads swung to stare at Frank, “Well Frankie? Did you kill here?”
Frank’s jaw dropped, “You have got to be kidding!” He shook his head, “I couldn’t kill anyone! Besides, I was getting wasted with you guys all day!”
“Calm down Frankie!” Gerard held up his hands, “Bob was just being an asshole! We know it wasn’t you.”
Frank leaned back into the couch, “Whatever. If you two are done fucking,” he raised an eyebrow at Autumn and
Mikey, who blushed again, “I’m going to go pass out.” He stumbled up the stairs.
“I was only kidding.” Bob mumbled.
“Well it wasn’t funny. Jerk.” Gerard said, leaning on Ryan.
Mikey wrapped his arm around Autumn’s waist and brought her closer to him, “That’s still a very weird coincidence.”
Autumn laced their fingers together, “Those poor kids.”
“Yeah.” Bob agreed turning away from them with a frown.
Bob’s frown was not lost on Gerard. He produced his own frown, “So Mikey, what’s up with Matt?” he asked.
“Same old shit. Got arrested for possession and I had to go get his ass from West Valley before they threw him back in for loitering.” Mikey shrugged.
“You shouldn’t be fucking around with that guy. He’s going to get you in trouble.” Gerard scolded.
“Oh fuck off. He was your friend first anyway.” Mikey glared at him.
“Yeah, but he’s not anymore. We were smart enough to drop him before we ended up in jail too.”
“Look, Gee, I know you’re my big brother and all, but how about you let me live my own life? Would that be alright?” Mikey said defensively, tightening his grip on Autumn.
“I just don’t want to see you get yourself in something stupid that I’m going to have to bail you out of.” He said, wide, drunken eyes full of concern.
“We’re not kids anymore. I can take care of myself.” He said through gritted teeth. It always made him mad when Gerard acted like he was still a baby and couldn’t handle life.
“Mikey,” Autumn whispered, “You’re hurting me.”
He looked down ad saw he was white knuckling her hand and quickly released it, “Fuck, I’m sorry.”
She flexed her fingers a few times, “It’s okay.”
Mikey stood up, “I’m going home.” He said before Gerard could open his mouth again.
Autumn walked with him to his car, giving him a long kiss, “Good night Mikey.”
“Come with me.” He said softly in her ear, “I don’t have to work tomorrow and we can have some time together without those assholes listening in or making stupid comments.” He kissed her neck.
Autumn shivered and grinned, “Let me go grab my shoes.”
“What do you need shoes for?” Mikey threw her over his shoulder and opened the car door, dumping her in the passenger seat.
Autumn giggled and screamed, kicking her legs at him, “Mikey!”
He hopped in after her, pinning her back to the seat so he could kiss her deeply, sliding his tongue into her mouth and nipping at her bottom lip.
She dragged his head from hers by his hair, “You’re right. No shoes. Drive please.” She panted.
He grinned at her, but went around and got behind the wheel.
“Hey, what happened to Autumn?” Ray asked looking around when it occurred to him she’d gone to say bye to Mikey nearly a half an hour ago.
“Maybe she went upstairs.” Gerard yawned, petting Ryan’s head in his lap.
“I didn’t see her go up.” Ray frowned and pulled out his cell phone, sending her a text message. A few minutes later, he got one back, “im fine. with mikey. stop worrying.” He shook his head, “Well seems she’s with your little brother.” He leered at Gerard.
“I’m going to go crash.” Bob said, standing abruptly. He was sleeping in Ray’s room on a cot since by the time he’d arrived, Gerard and Ryan had already claimed the living room.
“G’night.” Gerard said, then jumped up, “Come on baby!” he yanked Ryan off the couch.
“Where are we going?” he asked confused.
“Bed! We’re stealing Autumn’s room tonight.” He told Ray, dragging Ryan behind him.
Ray shook his head and picked up the remote for the Wii.
“Where the fuck have you two been?” Frank asked as Autumn and Mikey entered the living room late Saturday afternoon.
Autumn tugged down the hem of Mikey’s Anthrax shirt with one hand since the other was being used to hold a pair of his pants that kept trying to fall of her hips, “Hi to you too Frankie.” She went up on her toes and kissed Mikey lightly, “Be down soon.” She ran into Gerard back in the hall, “Hey Gee. Where’s Ryan?”
“He’s working.” Gerard said vaguely, “Is that Mikey’s Anthrax shirt?”
She looked down, “Yeah.” She shrugged, “I’ve go to go get ready for work.” She made a face, “I promised Tiff I’d cover her shift tonight since she got me yesterday, so I’m working till three.”
Gerard nodded, “Alright. See you later.” He went into the living room and sat, staring at his brother. Mikey had let Autumn wear his Anthrax shirt. It was his favorite shirt. He’d never let anyone else wear it, ever.
Mikey noticed Gerard looking and turned to glare at him, “What?”
“Nothing.” He turned to watch the TV.
Frank had been glued to the box all day, waiting for updates on the woman who was killed. He felt responsible. He had been wishing someone would stab her violently, and then someone did.
“Frankie, they aren’t going to report anything new. They haven’t got anything to go on. They’re asking us for help. You know that means they’re never going to find out who did it.” Bob said, sitting next to him and handing him a beer from the six pack he’d gotten out of the fridge. He looked at the table for a second, wondering what had happened to Frankie the Doll.
Ray walked in, tugging his hair out of the ponytail he had to keep it in for work and loosening his tie, “Hey guys.” He flopped onto the couch with a grateful sigh and accepting the beer Bob handed him.
“Ray,” Gerard said, “Guess who was wearing Mikey’s Anthrax shirt.”
Ray lifted his head and looked around, seeing that none of the guys were, “Who?” he let his head fall back.
“Autumn.”
His head jerked back up, “Huh?”
Bob looked confused.
Mikey looked confused as well, “So what?”
“Yeah. So the fuck what?” Frank said. He threw a pillow at Gerard.
“Are you guys fighting already?” Autumn asked, coming down from her room dressed for work.
Bob swallowed hard at the sight of Autumn in her miniskirt with her knee high platform boots and took a long drink from his beer.
Mikey stood, “Ready to go?” He had decided that he was going to take Autumn to and from work to discourage her boss from any unnecessary unpleasantness.
“Bye guys.” Frank said, turning his attention back to the six o’clock news. He dropped his beer on the carpet, causing it foam up and flow all over the floor, “Holy. Fucking. Shit.”
“What-” Gerard looked at the screen and his jaw fell open.
Ray was leaning forward on the couch, eyes wide.
“Another mysterious murder rocks the 909 today. Matt Pelissier was stabbed sixteen times with an unidentified object. The police have no leads and are asking anyone to come forward with any information they might have.”
“Jesus Christ, someone killed Matt.” Bob whispered, shocked.
“Fuck.” Frank muted the TV when the report broke for a commercial.
“Do you think Mikey knows?” Gerard asked.
None of them were particularly upset. They were more shocked that someone they knew had been murdered.
“Are you going to tell him?” Frank asked.
Ten minutes later when Mikey drove up, there was no need for anyone to tell him since they were all still stuck on the news.
“Hey guys. What’s going on?” he looked up at the TV where they were running another bit about Matt being killed.
Mikey sat abruptly.
“Sorry Mikey.” Gerard put an arm around him and rubbed his shoulder.
“You are not.” He shook his head.
“I am Mikers. They think it’s the same dude who killed that bitch from Frankie’s work.”
“Who would kill Matt and some random chick?”
“I don’t know.”
Mikey’s phone rang and he pulled it out, talking for a few minutes, going pale. He hung up after a minute and put the phone in his pocket, “The police want to talk to me.” He stood and went to the door, “I’ll be back.”
“What? Mikey? Where are you going?” Gerard asked just as the door slammed.
Mikey kept looking at the clock. If he didn’t leave soon, he was going to be late picking up Autumn.
“Why are you looking at the clock Mike? Got someplace to be?”
He tore his eyes from the wall and looked at Detecive Pleasant in the face, “Yeah. I’ve gotta pick my girlfriend up from work in a half hour.”
“Oh? Well maybe you should call her and tell her you’re going to be late.” Pleasant sneered.
“I don’t understand what I am doing here. I didn’t have anything to do with Matt’s death.” He crossed his arms over his chest.
“You’re the last person who we have record of seeing Matt Pelissier alive. What did you do with him?” the cop sat down and crossed his legs, hitching up his belt.
“I told you. I picked him up after West Valley let him out for some kind of drug charge and I took him all over the place until I dropped him off at this guy Doug’s house.” He sighed, “I haven’t heard from him in two days.”
“Where is Doug’s house?”
“I don’t remember. I wasn’t really too focused on where I was at, I just wanted to get back.”
“Wow, this chick must be some looker, got you all rushed to meet her places.” The detective quirked an eyebrow and smiled a big fake “I’m you’re friend.” Smile.
“Here’s the thing,” Mikey stood, “charge me with something or let me the fuck out of here. I played your game for long enough, but now I’m going to be late.”
“Fine.” Detective Pleasant stood and opened the door, gesturing Mikey out, “Just make sure you stay available.”
Mikey gave the cop a most sarcastic salute and practically ran to his car, speeding all the way to Andre’s. He pulled into the empty parking lot and got out of the car, searching for Autumn, “Autumn? Where are you?” he found her huddled against herself behind the dumpster, crying. He ran up and put his arms around her, surprised when she flinched and started weeping harder, “Autumn? What’s wrong?”
“Where were you Mikey?” she asked softly through her tears, “Where were you?” she stood and that’s when Mikey saw the marks on her.
Beneath her flimsy outfit, Autumn had several bruises resembling bites on her chest and shoulders. Her thighs were welted and looked like they would bruise. Her tube top was all stretched out and she clutched it to keep it from sliding off.
“What the fuck happened?” he placed his hands on her shoulders lightly.
She gasped and brushed his hands off, letting go of her top. It slid down and nearly off, “Can we go now?”
Mikey nodded and followed her to his car. Before unlocking her door, he went to the trunk and pulled out a shirt for her, “Here.” He said handing it to her.
She pulled it on without a word and got in the car.
Worried, Mikey sat behind the wheel and turned the car on, “Baby, what happened?”
Autumn shook her head, “Can we get out of here please?” that was all she said until they almost arrived at
Autumn’s house. She looked at him and asked again, “Why were you late?”
*-*-*-*
“Where’s your boyfriend?”
Autumn shivered as Jeff came up behind her and placed his hands on her shoulders.
She had just finished cleaning up the bar, and apparently Jeff had stayed late to work on some paper work. They were all alone.
She shrugged off his hands and walked forward a few steps, “He’ll be here.”
“He’s almost a half an hour late. Why don’t you come back in and have a drink with me?” he slid up to her, smelling her hair.
“Sorry. Bar’s closed for the night.” She said stepping to the side.
“Not the one in my office.”
She shook her head, “No thanks.”
“You don’t work for the next four days right?”
She took another step out the back door, eyes searching every car that drove by, “Why?”
He grabbed her hair and dragged her inside, locking the door behind them and tossed Autumn on the bar, “Because you uppity bitch, you’ve been looking at me like a fucking bug for almost a year now, and I’m going to fucking teach you a lesson.” He hit her across the face.
“Fuck off!” she spat, eyes watering as her cheek stung.
“Not yet.” He growled and kissed her neck, moving down to bite at her chest. He wrapped his hand in her shirt and pulled it up over her head, wrapping it around her wrists and securing it to the bar, fighting against her the whole time and she struggled to free herself, screaming for him to stop. She got a knee up and almost hit him in the balls, and he slammed her head into the wood, leaving her dazed. Jeff took advantage of her momentary relaxed state and shoved her skirt up, tearing her underwear off. He unzipped his pants and lifted her legs, shoving himself into her, tearing a new scream from her throat. His fingers dug into her thighs as he pumped away. Autumn was in too much pain to fight back. She wept and screamed until he kissed her and she bit his lip, “Bitch!” he slapped her again and her vision grayed out. By the time she could see again, Jeff was grunting and thrusting erratically. He pulled out and came on her chest, throwing a towel on her, “See you Thursday.” He sneered and walked away, zipping his pants.
*-*-*-*
Autumn shivered and wiped at some more tears that ran down her face.
“Do you need to go to the hospital?” Mikey asked, noticing the blood on her thighs.
She nodded.
Mikey turned the car around and headed for the hospital, his knuckles white on the steering wheel. ‘Breathe.’ He told himself, ‘Get mad after you make sure she’s okay. But for now you have to be calm.’ He looked over at her again and it was very hard for him to stay calm, “It was your fucking boss wasn’t it?” he asked quietly.
She nodded again.
Mikey pressed harder on the accelerator. He was going to kill him.
